JSF HtmlPanelGrid formatting

I am creating dynamic HtmlPanelGrid so that certain cells need to render with NO content and in different colors. Basically I do the following:
private HtmlPanelGrid getMyGrid(String myParam){
   if (this.myGrid == null) {
       this.myGrid = new HtmlPanelGrid();
       this.myGrid.setCellpadding("0");
       this.myGrid.setBorder(2);
       // etc
    } else {
       this.myGrid.getChildren().clear();
    this.myGrid.setColumns(10); //or pass any integer
    // create cell content
    HtmlOutputText outTxt = new HtmlOutputText();
    outTxt.setValue(myParam);
    if (whatever_condition)
           outTxt.setStyle("color:rgb(212,214,186);font-size:9.0pt;background-color:rgb(212,214,186);");
    else outTxt.setStyle("color:rgb(192,192,192);font-size:9.0pt;background-color:rgb(192,192,192);"); //gray
    this.myGrid.getChildren().add(outTxt);Problem:
Since HtmlPanelGrid is only a container I cannot 'setStyle' for individual cells. Hence, I have to create cells with, for example, HtmlOutputText and set certain styles based on the condition in runtime.
When the grid renders ONLY part of the cell will have desired color(style) ie just the outTxt. The rest of the cell will be default white.
Question:
How to force the child of the grid cell to adjust to the cell size?
Or more general:
How to dynamically set the style of the cell in the HtmlPanelGrid?

Here's the code generated by the server:
<img .../>
<a href=...></a>What am I doing wrong?It's probably because the JSF component (commandLink) renders its child components - the embedded image is NOT a JSF component. Either use h:graphicImage or embed your img declaration in an f:verbatim.

    Does anyone have any JSF web App example I can link to to get a feel
    for the type of UIs that are available?
    Also, Can you build a JSF Web Application without using JSP pages?
    Finally, who has the most comprehensive JSF implementation?

    You can take a look at the GlassFish admin GUI. It's new UI is done using JSF. If you install GlassFish it is under the lib/install/applications/admingui directory. It will soon be enabled by default, you may have to deploy it manually until this is done. It uses a very complete set of components.. the "Creator" component documentation covers most of these components.
    https://glassfish.dev.java.net
    ICEfaces has a good set of components (I don't have much experience w/ them yet). They've been around a while and are very expienced in JSF and Ajax:
    http://www.icefaces.org
    GlassFish app server provides the best "out of the box" environment for JSF. It includes JSF 1.2 and continues to update its version of JSF as bug fixes are available for JSF. If you're starting a new project, I highly recommend JSF 1.2 over 1.1.
    For non-JSP JSF pages there are 2 choices that I am aware of:
    Facelets: https://facelets.dev.java.net (created by Jacob Hookom)
    JSFTemplating: https://jsftemplating.dev.java.net (created by me)
    Facelets is an XHTML-based view framework that is much better and faster than JSP. It has good documentation and is well used.
    JSFTemplating provides both XML and a JSF-specific format for defining JSF Views. It is also much better and faster than JSP. It's documentation needs improvement... I'm working on it. This framework includes many value added features like:
    * Ability to create components using the template format
    * page session
    * events w/ handler support
    * factory pattern for instantiating objects (eliminates need for writing custom components in many cases)
    * @annotation support
    * Interoperates with JSP
    These all big features (that Facelets doesn't support) that I could elaborate much more on... but I won't now. :) JSFTemplating is mature and has been around for over 2 years (although it hasn't been Open Source for very long) -- some of it's core parts are even older. GlassFish's admin GUI uses it.
    I hope this helps!

  • Date Format  JSF problem

    what I am asking is ridiculous for most. anyways this is my code
    String pattern = "MM/dd/yyyy";
    String value ="11/12/1976"
         SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat(pattern);
         Date birthDate;
         Calendar todayDate;
         Date now = new Date();
         try {
              birthDate = sdf.parse(value);
              System.out.println("birthDate'''''''''' "+birthDate);
    for same reason "System.out.println("birthDate'''''''''' "+birthDate);"
    prints "Fri Nov 12 00:00:00 CST 1976"
    what do I have to do to make it print the same as 11/12/1976
    Thank you.

    for same reason "System.out.println("birthDate'''''''''' "+birthDate);"
    prints "Fri Nov 12 00:00:00 CST 1976"That's the default toString() representation of the Date object.
    what do I have to do to make it print the same as 11/12/1976Use SimpleDateFormat#format() to format a Date object into a human readable String representation.
    This has completely nothing to do with JSF by the way. In future please use 'New to Java' or maybe 'Java Programming' forums for those kind of basic API related questions.

  • Validating Dates in JSF using convertDateTime an overriding message format

    Have seen a way to validate dates with this kind of code snippet:
             <h:inputText id="departDate"
                value="#{flight.departDate}">
               <f:convertDateTime pattern="dd/MM/yy"/>
             </h:inputText>
             <h:message for="departDate"/>-----
    This results in an ugly default error message when things go wrong like so:
    j_id_jsp_1447383442_1:departDate: 'a' could not be understood as a date. Example: 28/02/08
    Is there a way I can override this by using some sort of message placeholder, so I get a message like:
    *"Depart Date 's' is invalid"*
    So placeholder message would be *"[0} {1} is invalid"*, where parm *0* would be *"Depart Date"* and parm *1* would be value *"#{flight.departDate}"*.
    I know you can resort to a full blown custom converter class, but I was wondering if I could put a message formatted with placeholders directly into the code snippet.
    Is this feasible?

    After several more iterations of testing, I discovered the problem is actually due to using the trinidad rendering kit. Part of my migration to 1.2 involved experimenting with the use of the trinidad components. I thought I had removed all the trinidad stuff from my application during testing of this date problem, but I discovered that I had left the following in:
    web-app library:    trinidad-1.2.10
    faces-config.xml entry:
        <default-render-kit-id>
                org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.core
        </default-render-kit-id>once these items were removed, the application worked as expected. So it looks like the problem is with the trinidad rendering kit/library.

  • Configuring Date format across a JSF application

    Hi,
    I know there's a way to use a date-time converter on a Date accessor on a backing bean, such as below..
    <h:outputText value="#{bean.dateInstance}">
        <f:convertDateTime type="both"/>
    </h:outputText>.. but is there a way to format dates consistently across the entire application? Does anybody know what is the default converter for Date's? I haven't done much research into it... I know you can create a custom converter to convert all objects of a certain class, but I assume there's already a default one for Dates that could just be configured to use a certain date pattern?
    Thanks in advance,
    James

    If your script does not have explicit TO_DATE conversions (which it should, by the way), like:
    insert into t values (to_date('11/21/2002', 'mm/dd/yyyy'));then you can set the default date format to match the format in your script. So, if your script looks like:
    insert into t values ('11/21/2002');then:
    alter session set nls_date_format = 'mm/dd/yyyy';prior to running the script.

  • Dispalying date in 24 hr format in JSF

    Hi
    Is there way to show date in 24 Hr format.
    ie if I want to display date as
    MM/DD/YYYY HH24:MI:SS
    01/10/2007 15:02:55
    with ,
    <f:convertDateTime pattern="MM/dd/yyyy" hh:mm:ss/>
    its displaying as , 01/10/2007 00:00:00
    Thanks
    Sandip

    Hi anguquga,
    Its working for displaying normal dates.
    But I am using
    <t:inputCalendar for date saving.
    i.e I have form in which I have to save date by selecting date from <t:inputCalendar component
    so while displaying saved record I am getting date as
    02/17/2007 24:00:00
    this 24:00:00 is coming all places though I saved date with different time.
    for displaying date I am doing as,
    <h:outputText id="startDate" value="#{bean.startDate}">
    <f:convertDateTime pattern="MM/dd/yyyy kk:mm:ss " />      </h:outputText>
    Thanks

  • JSF app - open report in new Window - via JSP?

    I have been reading through this forum but no one has done quite what I am trying so I thought I'd post my own version of this problem.
    The web app I'm working on is basically a report generator. Data is formatted via XSLT to .html files - that part works great. The problem is getting the app to open this new HTML file in a new window. I want to get this working with little or no JavaScript.
    startReport.jsp (a JSF file) is the form that validates the user input. The sole h:commandButton (I do NOT want a link) works fine sending the form and JSF returns its errors or mine (if the criteria results in nothing) as it should; the action method returns "failure" so the page stays the same.
    But when the action method returns "success" the JSF navigation-rule is setup to route to showReportFile.jsp (which is NOT a JSF file). This JSP is very simple:
    <%@ page import="java.io.File" %>
    <%@ page import="java.io.PrintWriter" %>
    <%@ page import="java.io.FileReader" %>
    <%@ page import="com.logipath.gict.cts.reporting.client.ReportClient" %>
    <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" pageEncoding="ISO-8859-1" %>
    <jsp:useBean id="reportClient" scope="session" class="com.logipath.gict.cts.reporting.client.ReportClient" />
    <%
    String fileName = reportClient.getReportOutputFile();
    PrintWriter writer = response.getWriter();
    char[] buffer = new char[1024];
    FileReader reader = new FileReader(fileName);
    int numRead = reader.read(buffer, 0, buffer.length);
    while ( numRead != -1 ) {
         writer.write(buffer, 0, numRead);
         numRead = reader.read(buffer, 0, buffer.length);
    reader.close();
    writer.close();
    File file = new File(fileName);
    file.delete();
    %>This works believe it or not. If I put the target="_blank" on the form tag in the startReport.jsp it even opens in a new window. Great. But with that attribute on the form element, if the page comes back in error - it shows up in a new window (as it is apt to do given the attiribute).
    Ok, the h:commandButton tag's target attribute is ignored. Fine. There has to be a way to do this but I just cannot figure it out and I'm no JSP expert.
    What I think will work is this. Since my report beans create HTML files, I've created a session bean called "currentReportBean" which holds a single attribute - the name of the HTML file to display. (This is how the JSP above works.)
    What I need to know now *(this is the question part)* is how can I flush the render response of my JSF life cycle, trigger the opening of this JSP in a new window, the restart the JSF life cycle at the begining so the "parent" page repaints normally? The JSP isn't part of the JSF page flow so I there's no "going back" or "refresh" to worry about. I would like to take the showReportFile.jsp file out of the navigation files altogether.
    I know this topic has been worked on at length, but not quite this way. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    arnieAustin wrote:
    No, the JSP resets the bean value after showing the file.My mistake; it wasn't the reload scenario that is an issue. It is when the user goes back and forth in history that this can be a problem.
    >
    But now I'm confused. JS cannot access server-based session values. How is it going to know to open the page? A cookie?Write the value to a JS variable when you render the page.

  • Problem with adding Sun JSF RI v1.2 as a new library in JDeveloper 10.1.3.1

    Hi,
    I have a problem with adding a latest JSF 1.2 RI from Sun (https://javaserverfaces.dev.java.net/files/documents/1866/44998/jsf-1_2_03.zip) to JDeveloper as a new library.
    I created a new User library and added into it jsf-impl.jar and jsf-api.jar from JSF 1.2 RI.
    Then I try to create two new JSP Tag libraries based from .tld files.
    When a .tld file is placed in "TLD File:" field there is no information below about Library Version and Required JSP Version. If I check "Execute Tags in JSP Visual Editor" and click "Customize" button - list of tags in "Customize Tag Library" window is empty.
    I have errors when I try to use JSF Tags from this new library in JSP page like :
    "Can't create tag instance: f:view (class: null). Make sure, that the tag class or a library contained this class is available in this application"
    (free translation to English)
    Is this possible to add JSF RI v1.2 as another library in Jdeveloper 10.1.3.1 ?
    thanks for help
    koli

    Hi,
    This solution is not exactly for Jdeveloper 10.1.3.x I think.
    - "Create a JSF system library." section, point 2. - there is not possible to add library in folder other than User I see, so I added it in User folder.
    - "Register the JSF JSP tag libraries." section, point 5. - in JD 10.1.3 there is no dialog box, I checked checkbox "Show Tag Library in Palette". A new library was added to User folder but there is no new libraries in component Palette.
    Even as I use "Edit tag libraries .." from Component Palette context menu and add manually new tag libraries to selected, there is no libraries in Component Palette after it.
    I feel so problem is with different .tld files format, not with adding libraries method.

  • Using 3rd party tags in JSF application

    I have a 3rd party tag library used previously in a Struts application to check if an user is authenticated / has logged in. The tag looks like this: <authn:authenticate userVarName="user" scope="session" errorPage="error.jsp" successPage="/faces/Page1.jsp"></authn:authenticate>. One unusual thing about the tag is that the uri for it references a jar file that includes the tld.
    I can build the app okay but deployment fails with the following error:

    The tag's tld is <tlib-version>1.1</tlib-version> <jsp-version>1.2</jsp-version>. I'm not sure if this is the problem or if 3rd party tags don't necessarily work within JSF (am using Creator) without modification. Does anyone have any advise on this? Should 3rd party tags work? If not, how do they need to be modified or turned into a component to work? This tag doesn't display anything - it checks if users have logged in and redirects them to another site to login if they did not log in.

    Thanks for your reply! I do have the jar file, which includes the .tld, in my WEB-INF/lib
    On Page1.jsp I tried using <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/lib/myLibrary.jar" prefix="myTag" %> but got errors so I moved it to <jsp:root version="1.2" xmlns:myTag="/WEB-INF/lib/myLibrary.jar"...Should the <%@taglib uri = work? When I tried to use <%@taglib version I got errors saying strict xml enforced.
    I am using the format prefix:tag format <myTag:checkaccess userVarName="user"
    scope="session"
    errorPage="error.jsp" ></myTag:checkaccess>
    Do I need to somehow convert this tag into a component?
    I think the jar is fine since I'm using it in a number of other applications.
    Should the tag work? Do non-JSF tags have to be turned into components?

  • Validation error message in JSF 1.2

    I am testing my Web application inside Tomcat 6.0.2 and using JSF 1.2. I was surprised to see that validation error messages do not only display the custom error message, but also the id tag and a "Validation Error: " text. For instance, if an input text component has the required property set to true and the user does not fill in value, the following error message will be displayed on page submiision: "hello:test: Validation Error: Value is required." instead of just "Value is required.". I am wondering if there is a way to silence the id tag and the "Validation Error: " text. hello:test id tag reflects the fact that the form has an id of "hello" and the input text component an id equal to "test".

    Hello
    I'm quite new to this technology. Would like to know how can we replace the 'annoying component id' with label while generationg validation/conversion error message.
    E.g:
    'for:compID' some error message
    must be formated as
    'compLabel' some error message
    I happened to know that this feature is supported in JSF 1.2 impl. But didn't work for me with Sun RI.Can any body give me some sample code snippet for the same

  • How to populate a html table in a JSF page

    Hi, I need help on the following issue:
    My code calls an business layer API which returns me a string in html format which produces a html table. I have a JSF page with a bunch of other JSF components and I want to insert this html table at the bottom of this page. Is there a way to do it?

    OK
    Here is an example
    Drag an outputText component on to the Page. Check the properties of outputText and uncheck the escape property. Write this some where in the code when you want to display the HTML table on the page.
    String s = "<HTML><BODY><TABLE BORDER=2><TR><TD>No</TD><TD>Name</TD><TD>Age</TD></TR><TR><TD>1</TD><TD>John</TD><TD>30</TD></TR><TR><TD>2</TD><TD>Michael</TD><TD>20</TD></TR></TABLE></BODY></HTML>";
    outputText1.setValue(s);
    I am using the hardcoded value for String but in your case you get the string from some API.
    Hope this helps

  • Problem in JSF action mapping for ZOHOwrter

    Hello Every one,
    I am struggling with a problem by using zohowriter in JSF Frame work, my problem is..
    I have developed an application to open and edit a Document which resides in server and save it in server in another path, for this purpose we are using ZohoWriter. For this application the Struts frame work is working fine.
    I have designed xhtml page by using struts framework as bellow,
    <body>
    <form method="POST" action="http://export.writer.zoho.com/remotedoc.im?apikey=ad40de81a92f4d644b474276c7ac1640&output=editor" target="_self">
    <input type="hidden" name="url" value="http://customers.info-sun.com/itrack/templateDocuments/TestPlan.doc">
    <input type="hidden" name="saveurl" value="http://localhost:8080/Struts/zoho.do">
    <input type="hidden" name="filename" value="mydocument.doc">
    <input type="hidden" name="id" value="12345678">
    <input type="hidden" name="format" value="doc">
    <input type="hidden" name="persistence" value="true">
    <input type="submit" value="Edit" class="divbutton" name="submit">
    </form>
    By using above code that editor is calling the "saveurl" attribute value while saving the document, that is automatically executing the Action class and saving the Document in specified server path.
    But,
    In my application we are following JSF framework,
    In my application I have written the xhtml page like,
    <form id="myform" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data" action="http://export.writer.zoho.com/remotedoc.im?apikey=ad40de81a92f4d644b474276c7ac1640&output=editor">
         <h:commandButton value="Edit" />
         <h:inputHidden id="url" value="http://customers.info-sun.com/itrack/templateDocuments/TestPlan.doc" />
         <h:inputHidden id="filename" value="TestPlan.doc" />
         <h:inputHidden id="id" value="12345678" />
         <h:inputHidden id="saveurl" value="http://customers.info-sun.com/itrack/zoho.fileDownload" />
         <h:inputHidden id="format" value="doc" />
    </form>
    in the page designing if I use <h:form> this tag is not containing action attribute , so I am giving by command button but it is not working.
    So, I continued with html form.
    also, if I specify the "saveurl" attribute mapped with backing been , it is executing in page load only , So My actual intention means after editing it needs to call but it is not happening, while loading this method is calling so other problems are raising.
    Can any one please guide me that, what is my mistake and how to over come.
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi,
    I got solution for the above problem.
    I am calling a servlet instead of calling jsf flow, I got that, the zohowriter calling only lifecycle method for saveurl attribute.
    Thanks and Regards

    Despite the fact that in preferences it says the folder is located in "C:\itunes
    Setting iTunes prefs -> Advanced simply sets the locaion of the iTunes Music/Media folder. It does not set the location of the iTunes folder, which the default location is \My Music\iTunes\. This contains the library files, which tells iTunes where/what everything is.
    We have drive space for 'personal' use on the C Drive. This is where I keep my itunes folder,
    Is this the \iTunes\ folder an in it is the iTunes library.itl file, iTunes music library.xml, iTunes media folder, Artwork folder, Previous iTunes libraries folder and a few other files?
    If so, hold Shift and launch iTunes. Select *Choose library* and select the *iTunes library.itl* file in this folder.
    iTunes will not create an iTunes folder in \My Music\.
