JSF managed beans Vs Enterprise beans

Hi friends,
what are the advantages/disadvantages of using enterprise beans/ JSF managed beans over JSF managed beans/Enterprise beans
regards
san

The primary difference between managed bean and enterprise bean is : enterprise bean will avail all the services provided by EJB container. where as managed bean cant avail all these.

  • Manipulate a payload inside a JSF Managed Bean

    Hello guys,
    Does someone know how can I consume programatically a human task payload inside a JSF Managed Bean?
    Let we say that I need to extract some information from a payload to consume a service... After that, depending on the result, I update the payload with some data from the service to show to the user. Is that possible?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks guys!!!

    Out of the box now? No. Could something be added? I'm not sure it can.
    Best bet, in my opinion, are code reviews. :)

  • @EJB annotation in JSF managed beans not working

    Hi all,
    I've been trying to get the @EJB annotation to work in a JSF manged bean without success.
    The EJB interface is extremely simple:
    package model;
    import javax.ejb.Local;
    @Local
    public interface myEJBLocal {
    String getHelloWorld();
    void setHelloWorld(String helloWorld);
    and the bean code is simply:
    package model;
    import javax.ejb.Stateless;
    @Stateless
    public class myEJBBean implements myEJBLocal {
    public String helloWorld;
    public myEJBBean() {
    setHelloWorld("Hello World from myEJBBean!");
    public String getHelloWorld() {
    return helloWorld;
    public void setHelloWorld(String helloWorld) {
    this.helloWorld = helloWorld;
    When I try to use the above EJB in a managed bean, I only get a NullPointerException when oc4j tries to instantiate my managed bean. The managed bean looks like:
    package view.backing;
    import javax.ejb.EJB;
    import model.myEJBLocal;
    import model.myEJBBean;
    public class Hello {
    @EJB
    private static myEJBLocal myBean;
    private String helloWorld;
    private String helloWorldFromBean;
    public Hello() {
    helloWorld = "Hello from view.backing.Hello!";
    helloWorldFromBean = myBean.getHelloWorld();
    public String getHelloWorld() {
    return helloWorld;
    public void setHelloWorld(String helloWorld) {
    this.helloWorld = helloWorld;
    public String getHelloWorldFromBean() {
    return helloWorldFromBean;
    Am I missing something fundamentally here? Aren't you supposed to be able to use an EJB from a JSF managed bean?
    Thanks,
    Erik

    Well, the more I research this issue, the more confused I get. There have been a couple of threads discussing this already, and in this one Debu Panda states that:
    "Support of injection in JSF managed bean is part of JSF 1.1 and OC4J 10.1.3.1 does not support JSF 1.1"
    10.1.3.1 Looking up a session EJB with DI from the Web tier
    But if you look in the release notes for Oracle Application Server 10g R3, it is explicitly stated that JSF 1.1. is supported. So I'm not sure what to believe.
    I've also tried changing the version in web.xml as described here:
    http://forums.java.net/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=2117
    but that didn't help either.
    I've filed a SR on Metalink for this, but haven't got any response yet.

  • JSF managed beans and xmlbeans

    Hi,
    I am having a jsf application,where I get data from a back end configuration service,which returns data in the form of xml,for which we already have compiled xmlbeans.At our side we recieve the response and parse it to get back the response.My question is- Is it advisable to use these xmlbeans within the jsf managed beans,or do we need to create pojos from the xmlbeans,before sending them to mbeans.Why I am asking such a question is-xmlbeans have a tight coupling with the backend
    Thanks
    -Bibin

    I would suggest have pojo's. Below are my points
    1) You man not need everything from the XMLBean always. Most of the times, you may need very little from the XMLBean. You can transfer the required information to the POJO. This would also save you from network overhead in case the backend is running on a separate machine.
    2) Any changes to the backend code will not have any impact on your UI code.

  • Jsf managed beans

    I am new to jsf so i want to know difference between managed bean and Back end bean. and when jsf creates instance of these beans.
    how JSF read faces- config.xml file

    @cbonneau
    First, I must admit I didn't fully understand you.
    Now, as for your question, managed beans are used to execute some business logic, like methods that you want to run when a form is submitted, or to hold some data that your page needs to access etc.
    Model beans represent a domain object from your domain model. If you make an application used by a car rental agency, you'd probably have a model bean that represents a car.
    And controller beans... well... I have no idea what could you mean by that :)
    As for the MVC pattern, JSF more-or-less forces you to comply with it, so not much for you to do there.
    And if you want a sample application, google a bit, you'll find plenty.

  • Difference between a Managed Bean and Backing Bean

    hi
    i am new to JSF made my 1st appl today ...
    couldnt clearly understand difference between a Managed Bean and Backing Bean , anybody know the difference?
    Regards
    dsdsf

    These are two terms that means the same .... A backing bean is a normal web term, in JSF specifically it is termed as managed bean as this' backing bean' configurations in faces-config.xml are termed within 'managed-bean ' tags.
    Cutting the long story short its a bean class . period :)

  • What is difference between Managed Bean and Backing Bean?

    What is difference between Managed Bean and Backing Bean? Please guide me how to create them and when to use them?
    Please post sample for both beans.

    Hi,
    managed beans and backing beans are quite the same in that the Java object is managed by the JavaServer Faces framework. Manage in this respect means instantiation. The difference is that backing beans contain component "binding" references, which managed beans usually don't. Do backing beans are page specific versions of managed beans.
    Managed beans are configured either in the faces-config.xml file, or using ADF Faces and ADFc, in the adfc-config.xml file

  • Transaction management in stateless session beans.

    Hi all,
    I am using EJB 1.1.
    I have a statless session bean that has two methods- A and B.
    which does not involve any database interaction
    like inserting/updating/deleting the data in the database.
    The process flow is such the client always calls A first followed by the call to B.
    I have the Transaction attribute set as TX_REQUIRED at the whole bean level.
    Now my question is as follows:
    Since it is a stateless bean, ejbCreate() is called for every method's invocation.
    So does it mean that a new transaction is started for every method invocation?
    Also since a transaction ends by commit/rollback.
    The transation associated with the method A/B will never get completed as there is no commit/rollback involved in method implementation.
    So how is this transaction ended?
    Any more details about the transaction management in stateless session beans is highly appreciated.
    Any input at the earliest is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Since it is a stateless bean, ejbCreate() is called for every method's invocation.For stateless session bean , Create() is not delegated to the instance.
    So does it mean that a new transaction is started for every method invocation?This depends opon the Tx attribute and sequence of calls. Since you have given Tx_required then if you call any method and there is no Tx context associated with client,then a new TX will be started by container othere wise it will execute in the same TX context as the calling client. Note that client can be jsp or other ejb method.
    Also since a transaction ends by commit/rollback.
    The transation associated with the method A/B will never get completed >as there is no commit/rollback involved in method implementation.
    So how is this transaction ended?If you are using COntainer managed TX then Transaction handling like starting , ending etc is handled by the container. You need not worry about that.
    Any more details about the transaction management in stateless session >beans is highly appreciated.
    Any input at the earliest is highly appreciated.Some time back I had read the article on how the Transaction management done by container on IBM Site. I dont have URL , but you can search the site.

  • A question about entity manager in stateless session bean.

    JSR 220 ejbcore, page 47 : stateless session bean: All business object references of the same interface type for the same stateless session bean have the "same object identity", which is assigned by the container.
    So, if we have two session beans in client code...
    @EJB Cart cart1;
    @EJB Cart cart2;
    then cart1.equals(cart2)==true
    If we declare entity manager in stateless session bean:
    @PersistenceContext( unitName="ds" ,type=PersistenceContextType.TRANSACTION)
    private EntityManager em;If cart1 and cart2 are the same reference, do we have any problem when using the same reference(maybe the same em? ) to get data from db?

    If cart1 and cart2 are the same reference, do we have
    any problem when using the same reference(maybe the
    same em? ) to get data from db?No. In EJB, there is a distinction between the EJB reference and the bean instance.
    Each time you make an invocation on an EJB reference for a stateless session bean,
    the container can choose any instance of that bean's bean class to process the
    invocation. That's true whether you invoke the same reference multiple times or
    two difference references to the same bean.
    Each bean instance is guaranteed to be single-threaded.

  • Private methods in a enterprise bean

    Can I have private methods in a enterpise bean?

    Yes, an enterprise bean can have private methods.

  • Accessing a JSF element from a back bean method

    Hi,
    short question, can I access the JSF element from a back bean method?
    So, for example, if I have the following JSF code:
    <h:panelGroup id="test1" rendered="#{bean.someMethod}">...</h:panelGroup>
    <h:panelGroup id="test2" rendered="#{bean.someMethod}">...</h:panelGroup>
    <h:panelGroup id="test3" rendered="#{bean.someMethod}">...</h:panelGroup>
    Can I found out in some way, which element (esp. which ID) calls the someMethod-method?
    Kind regards
    Matthias

    There are more possibilities as well. If you depend it on for example the User's rights/groups, then you can also do for example:
    rendered="#{user.admin}" // getter = public boolean isAdmin()
    rendered="#{user.groupName == 'admin'}" // getter = public String getGroupName()
    rendered="#{user.groupId > 1}" // getter = public int getGroupId()
    rendered="#{fn:contains(user.groups, 'admin')}" // getter = public String[] getGroups() or public List<String> getGroups()
    etc..I think it's after all just a matter of learning about the capabilities of EL a bit more.

  • Error Msg - "You must add the Class files for this enterprise bean"

    Hi,
    I am creating creating new enterprise bean using j2sdkee1.2. I am able to create .ear file in desired folder, but can not create .jar. Please help. Getting above error message.
    remote, home interface files and file having business logic (EJB) is compiled and kept at desired location.
    j2ee server started, Deploytool is started.
    Then I can successfully create new application (.ear file)
    Then I go for creating new enterprise bean. I get same application name in Drop down list named "Enterprise Bean will go in".
    Then I can add home, remote and ejb class file to create jar ("Add" under "Contents" ).
    When I say ok after adding these 3 files, I am getting error - "You must add the Class files for this enterprise bean".
    In the deploytool console, getting error - "java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\2sdkee1.2\mahesh\ConverterEJB.class (The system cannot find the path specified) "
    Can you please help me where to configure the path?
    Can u please help?
    Please send your answer to - [email protected]
    Cheers!

    the path really begins with '2', without a 'j', ie not c:\j2sdkee1.2\...?

  • To include a JAR file that contains enterprise beans in a WAR module

    1)I'm studying java ee tutorial in 6 but I do not understand what he means by "To include a JAR file that contains enterprise beans in a WAR module, add the JAR to the WEB-INF/lib directory of the WAR module" at this link:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javaee/6/tutorial/doc/gipio.html
    how do I create a file. jar to hold the enterprice beans in netbeans?
    2)
    as regards the case study prensete always in the tutorial "dukes-forest" I do not understand how it is structured, I think that the "dukes-store" is a web application (web module. war) to which are added other projects "entities "etc. .. is that correct? if it is right how do I create the project "entities" in netbeans? how do I add it to the project "dukes-store"?
    link at case study del tutorial:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javaee/6/tutorial/doc/glnpw.html

    Hi,
    I have also tried putting the actual jar file in my
    jar file that I created, that didn't work either.
    I didn't try extracting the contents of the jar file
    into mine because the directory structure would
    conflict my dir structure in the jar file (manifest
    file that is)Out of curiosity are you trying to use executable jar files? If so you might want to put the classpath in the manifest using Class-Path: blah.jar etc. Be remember that this resolves to the disk filesystem not the internals of the jar that is being executed. In other words - the blah.jar file resides in the same directoy on the disk as your executable jar.
    If you could clearly describe what you are trying to achive and how it is structured I am sure we could give you more pointers.

  • Integrating Enterprise Bean to JBI

    Hi,
    is there any example how to integrate Enterprise bean to JBI ? I would appreciate for any links with tutorials of jbi.xml, servicelist.xml and other configuration files, is there some description for this ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
    Session beans can be called from JBI if they are deployed as EJB web services (JSR 109).
    The example shows an MDB but if you have a session bean and deploy it as a web service , then you could access it through the Java EE Service engine.
    As of now only access to EJB web services is possible, (and not simple EJBs)
