JSF Page Template error in Visual Editor
Hi!
I've developed a jsp page template with an attribute called BackingBean. This attribute is a mypackage.view.BackingBeanTemplate class and it works perfectly when I open the template in visual editor.
When I create a new JSF page using my jsf page template and fill attribute BackingBean with a class that extends mypackage.view.BackingBeanTemplate, the visual editor send me the following error in Messages - Log:
WARNING: A problem was encountered executing the page. Using fallback rendering.
javax.el.PropertyNotFoundException: The class 'oracle.adf.view.rich.component.fragment.UIXPageTemplate$AttrMap' does not have the property 'BackingBean'.
When I run my jsf it works perfectly. Just in visual editor it doesn't render my page.
Can I use only primitive types and wrappers (String, Boolean, Integer, etc) in jsf template pages?
Anybody could help me?
Thanks
Gleber
Hi,
actually i used a template that references a type DCIteratorBinding using EL and this works fine. So there is no limitation in the type you pass as an argument. My assumption is that the IDE doesn't instantiate super classes, which is why the property is not found. Does the subclass call super() in its constructor? Anyway, feel free to file a bug

Hi,
I have searched this discussion forum for this problem and apparently I can't find any solution / tried a few but none works. I am feeling quite frustrated about this as on Manning's "JavaServer Faces in Action" online extension gave real examples in JDeveloper that looked so attractive, but in reality it doesn't work!
However, I could get 10.1.2 to associate with JSF by following online's howto's, but that would lose all the cool tools that come with 10.1.3 EA...
I would appreciate it if anyone can provide a clue as how to make JSF tags execute in the Visual Editor...Hi shay,
I discover that the problem was with my JSF source. I was importing from a source file (WAR) that comes with the book "JavaServer Faces in Action", when I import the file and try to open, I get a few exceptions shown on the console window, and the JSF tags were all unexecuted.
And as I create a new JSF file on my own in JDeveloper, everything was fine... -
Upgrade to IE7 gives JavaScript error in visual editor
Hello---
After upgrading to Internet Explorer 7, a yellow bar appears at the top of the JSP/HTML Visual Editor window saying that "This page uses JavaScript and requires a JavaScript enabled browser. Your browser is not JavaScript enabled." JavaScript is enabled in Internet Explorer. How can I make the message go away?
Please let me know if you need more information.
Thanks for your help.Hi,
not sure what you are seeing there. The visual editor has nothing to do with the selected browser. If the editor in JDeveloper 11 shows such message then something else went wrong. One attempt to fix this - which works for me - is to remove the JDeveloper system.xxx directory (or rename it).

JDev 1013, Webservice as Data Control in JSF page returns error
Hello,
For a client we are starting a project with Java Server Faces in combination with web services. In order to do some testing we created a web service in PLSQL (with a empno input field and a record output) and deployed this web service on an OC4J container. We then created a (new) JSF project, used the PLSQL web service as a Data Source, and used this Data Source in a JSF page.
When this JSF page is started an error occurs validation -
DCA-40007: The value for parameter "empNo" cannot be null..
The webservice can however be called in the page, the output is shown but the error stays in the page.
Communication with support gave me a temporary solution
I've put in the page definition for both the methodIterator (getEmpIter) and the accessIterator (ReturnIterator) the Refresh="Deferred". Now the error doesn't show in the page at startup of the page. Data is presented correctly after pushing the button, though still in the Jdeveloper Embedded OC4J Server Log shows a list of
ERROR Value for parameter : 'empNo' cannot be null.
In a multi row Webservice (created by JDeveloper) however i still get this error.
(1) What caused this error?
(2) When is the next version of JDeveloper due?
(3) I am looking for documentation on the following subjects
(3.1) How a JSF page is rendered by the Oracle JSF implementation
(3.2) How to read and adjust the JSF page definition, for example the <executables> part
(3.3) Problem with the extra abstraction layer is that is very hard to find where an error occurs. Is a mechanism/documentation available to find in which JSF fase an error occurs and how to bypass it?
Regards Leon Smiers(1) I think what is happening is that your page calls out to the Web service when you first run it without any parameter. This is why you get the error and also the reason that deffer works to solve this.
I think a solution would be to have your Web service handle the case of receiving an empty parameter.
(2) When it is ready :-)
(3.2) right click the jsf page and choose "go to page defenition" you can then edit it using the structure pane and the property inspector.
(3.3) you can run in debug mode, the code for ADF will be available when we go production, and with it a lot of more documentation. -

Question: JSF Page Templates inside Template - possible or not?
Hi guys!
I like pageTemplates! Really nice thing to decompose UI (especially supporting ADFm in background :))).
But, when I tried to define new template using another template, I was not able to reach facets of existing template (designer shows the "picture" of existing template but I cannot reach facets nor "enter" the template in any way). Looks like template inheritance is not supported? Or I'm doing something wrong.
Anyone succeeded to define new template based on existing one?
Thanks for any clue,
PavleHey,
I think we should take emotions out for a while and consider the options you have to build "reusable" pieces with templates today.
If you, for example, build a declarative component out of existing layout components and specify facetRefs for areas you want the application developer to change or add cmponents to then this becomes reusable as a ADF library. This said, a change to the declarative component has immediate effect to the decalartive components used on a page and/or template as soon as the new ADF library jar is in. So for basic needs like modifying a base template to contain customized headers etc. I think this should do.
Rgarding "under discussion". We are for sure no idiots and have an eye on the market and application development needs. So its not a discussion of "do we want that feature" - as we all agree on that we want to have this - but, what would be the possible impact that could happen, like performance, access to contained binding references, circular template references, how-deep does it make sense. This - and I hope you agree - should be discussed first and then properly implemented rather than blindly coded into the product.
However, we do have release cycles and some features might come just too late to be within the first cut - unless we want our customers to wait any longer than necessary to get their hands on a production version of JDeveloper 11.
"But, maybe the truth is hidden from the public? Maybe JDev is not intended to be the custom apps dev tool but only "customization" tool for WebCentre and other Oracles applications? That way the focus on taskflows instead on full UI is justified"
Taskflows is part of the Oracle ADFc controller, which is an extension to the Faces controller. It can be used without ADF using plain JSF components and bean binding. Taskflows is badly needed in JSF because it solves many usecases of Ajax that otherwise you can bang your head against a wall on
- isolated memory scope
- isolated transaction handling with "safe for later" commit, and rollback functionality
- declarative back browser handling
- page-to-page navigation within a page
- break up of activity navigations in reusable units
- Declarative JAAS based security
- Defined entry and exit points
Taskflows are not a mean to build reusable layouts, but reusable flows (thats a big difference and will benefit to application development outside of Oracle Applications big times). Of course, some features might be limited to the use with ADF, but I don't think that you can blame us for having technology that enables out-of-the box behavior for what otherwise you have to hand-code.
Regions I think is what you are addressing as a solution to embed "template" alike content.

JSF page as error-page location (WSAD 5.1)
I know that in the Core Java Server Faces book, there is an example of how to do this. They do it with f:subview with a note that the RI is buggy and f:view does not work.
In WSAD 5.1, neither subview or view works. Is anybody doing this with WSAD 5.1?
My current workaround is to have a servlet as the location, the servlet then forwards to the faces page, but this is less than ideal. Here is a workaround for Error Handling with an Error Page.

Visual editor JSF rendering not working
Hi,
I'm trialing the 10.1.0.3EA version of JDeveloper and I can't seem to get the JSF rendering working in the visual editor. I thought that perhaps I'd changed some settings or something so I completely uninstalled and then reinstalled JDeveloper. After the install I created a new application using the default web tech. scope, created default business components from the order and order_items tables in the oe schema, opened the JSF navigation, added a page and tried to drag and drop a read only table onto the page. Instead of the rendering I am getting a hierarchical view of tags with just the tag names, i'm not even getting any of the binding information shown, other than in the property inspector. I'v checked to make sure that the JSP tag libraries in the project settings all have "Execute tags in JSP Visual Editor" checked and in the preferences I have made sure that "Show JSP Tag Names Only" is unchecked. Does this functionality not work by default from the install or am I missing something?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Lee Proctor.Of course, use the value attribute of the component and set it to EL representing the desired property.

Hi All,
Please provide some pointers for designing good jsf page templates or some samples.
I need to create a project with few search pages.

JSF Visual Editor does not work with Tomahawk 1.1.3
hi,
i am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4 (SU4) with tomahawk 1.1.3 and myfaces-core 1.1.3.
All Tomahawk components that need the extensions filter to be rendered properly cannot be displayed
in the UI Designer anymore (e.g. Calendar). More painfully: all compontents in the container that comes after the component
that failed rendering will not be rendered too.
I have enabled JSP Visual Editor Preferendes 'Show Design Time Messages in Log' and got the following
exception:
Error exercising tag : h:panelGrid
java.lang.IllegalStateException: ExtensionsFilter not correctly configured. JSF mapping missing. JSF pages not covered. Please see: http://myfaces.apache.org/tomahawk/extensionsFilter.html
at org.apache.myfaces.renderkit.html.util.AddResourceFactory.throwExtensionsFilterMissing(AddResourceFactory.java:371)
at org.apache.myfaces.renderkit.html.util.AddResourceFactory.checkEnvironment(AddResourceFactory.java:333)
at org.apache.myfaces.renderkit.html.util.AddResourceFactory.getInstance(AddResourceFactory.java:288)
But the ExtensionsFilter is configured correctly - all works fine when running the page.
A little help was to disable the ExtensionsFilter Check in web.xml
<context-param>
<param-name>org.apache.myfaces.CHECK_EXTENSIONS_FILTER</param-name>
<param-value>false</param-value>
</context-param>
So only the components that need the extensions filter will not be rendered - others will not be affected.
But this is not really satisfying (btw. all worked fine with myfaces 1.1.1)
Has anyone else got the same expirience?
thankshi,
to work with myfaces-1.1.1 and the newer versions in jdeveloper i have changed the tlib-versionS for myfaces-impl-1.1.3 and tomahawk-1.1.3 so that they differ from the 1.1.1 libs.
then i registered the JSP libraries tomahawk.tld from tomahawk-1.1.3.jar, myfaces_html.tld and myfaces_core.tld from myfaces-impl-1.1.3.jar
then i have created a user library containing myfaces-api-1.1.3.jar and myfaces-impl-1.1.3.jar
on a new created JSF i allways have to manually remove the jsf-impl.jar from WEB-INF/lib directory because it conflicts with myfaces.
i hope this helps -
Importing visual jsf page into another jsp page
Hi
I am developing a web application using jsp and struts. I want to embed a visual jsf page that Ive created into another jsp page (which is a normal jsp page, not a jsf one.)
Ive tried quite a few things but nothing seems to work..
<jsp:include page="Page2.jsp">
Ive surrounded the code in the f:subview tags. still doesnt work.
Ive tried using <jsp:useBean id="Page2" scope="page" class="visualwebapplication.Page2" > .. It does not give me an error, but does not embed the page as well. Do I need to some other code after this to use the above bean to display the page.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sparsh AgarwalHi

I'm just wondering if anyone has seen this problem. I tried to add a Static Text field to an existing Layout Panel. I see the field properly in the jsp and I see it in the Navigator panel.
But, it does not appear when I try and write in the java view. I want to dynamically initialize it but using "this." or just using its id shows an error. The other elements under this panel work
fine, but it seems I cannot add anything new.
I've tried restarting netbeans, which also didn't help. Can anyone what conditions might
cause this strange behavior?augustobacellar,
The Visual Editor in JDeveloper 11 functions in much the same way it did in 10g. We use a page flow method of layout, not absolute positioning. This adheres to the container style model of layout provided by the JSF and allows JDeveloper to support Visual rendering for an array of component sets. Both the absolute positioning Visual Editors relay on one specific proprietary component set and do not support this style of visual development for other components. Thus, to adhere to our mantra of choice we chose a more robust approach.
Regards,
Ric -
Clicking on jsp page does not open it in visual editor.
All "open jsp tags in visual editor" checkbox is on for all libraries.
Jdeveloper version is 10131 build 3914

ADF JDeveloper wysiwyg visual editor does not render properly my jspx page
Hi everybody,
I am working with JDev 11.1.1.5 and I have an issue with the wysiwyg visual editor.
My jspx page does not render properly: I cannot see the full page whatever is the resolution, even in full screen mode.
I've tried to activate in the preferences the option Show Design Time Messages in Log but it does not display any error.
When I run my page or execute a preview of my page, my page is rendered correctly the browser.
Can someone help please?
Thanks by advanceHi Frank,
I've tried to change the resolution but whatever is the resolution the page is not rendered correctly. Actually, I can see the full page, but there are some panel boxes which are not displayed.
In my page, I have a main panelgrouplayout which contains 2 dashboard panels. The second dashboard contains panel boxes, only the 3 first rows of panel boxes are displayed in this dashboard panel while I have 6 rows of panel boxes.
In the design page, when I click on the 2nd dashboard and do "design this container", I can actually see that all the rows display correctly, it simply that I do not see them all in the main page.
In short, the 2 dashboard panels display entirely, simply the 2nd one does not show all its content while displayed in the main page.
Is there a solution for this?
Thanks by advance
