  • Feeding DTD from JSP

    Does anybody have an example on how to use DTD's(flat-file) from JSP. I can possibly hard-code DTD's in JSP, but, I want to feed it as a DTD file and get the XML out.

    Here's what i wanted to do. I'm writing a Cinema ticket online booking system for my Group Project. I want to write an applet that can access the Oracle database indirectly thru JSP. (this is bcs I've tried JDBC and it's kind of slow and you need the user to install the JDBC package) . So the only way I came up with is thru Applet -> JSP -> ORACLE and back. Is this possible? or is there any way where i can decrease the d/l part for the JDBC package? (takes too long for 56k users).

    Thanks for help.

    Sorry, no idea what the problem is.
    I suggest creating a servlet and moving all your business logic there. Test it and verify it works. Then put its result in request scope via request.setAttribute(),
    then in the JSP page, get the value via request.getAttribute(). This is in following with not having any business logic in the JSP page (separation of concerns).
    It also makes it far easier to debug and set breakpoints (can be done in servlet, not in JSP).

  • JSP and Java Beans with Database Problem

    hellow, this is my first posting and i hope to help me as fast as you can...
    my problem is simplly i cant get any data from the database (whatever the database it is, i test it with MS Access and MySQL server) when i use a bean, But if i put my connection statement in the JSP file thair is no problem... ???? !!!!
    for example i have a class "Authentication" that have a method to test if the username and password is correct or not and return 1 if true, 0 if false, -1 if thair are some problem in connecting DB.

    This problem doexn't happen consistently. This occurs once in a while.
    I tried to increase Login delay Seconds parameter in the Connection Pool to 15 sec. It didn't help me much.

    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>Html</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>Html</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>html_test</param-name>
    <param-value>Value I want have in my jsp class
    </param-value>
    </init-param>
    </servlet>
    And her i my java class who don`t work:
    import javax.servlet.jsp.*;
    import javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.*;
    import javax.servlet.ServletConfig;
    public class Html extends BodyTagSupport
    String title="";
    String html_test;
    ServletConfig config;
    public void doInitBody() throws JspException
    html_test = config.getInitParameter("html_test");
    }//End of method doInitBody()
    public int doStartTag() throws JspException
    try
    JspWriter out = pageContext.getOut();
    out.print( "<HTML>\n" );
    out.print( "<HEAD><TITLE>" + title + "</TITLE></HEAD>\n" );
    out.print( "<BODY>\n" );
    out.print( "<BR><H1>" + html_test + "</H1>" );
    And here are my html_test variable return null.
    I hope somone can help me, duke dollars will be given away for the solution answer.

    Nothing seems to work, have change the string and rewritten the web.xml file to:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app
    PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
    "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">
    <web-app>
              <context-param>
                   <param-name>html_test</param-name>
                   <param-value>Value I want have in my jsp class</param-value>
              </context-param>
    </web-app>

  • How to get the value from a database without submitting a jsp page

    I have a jsp which has a text box depending on the value entered I want to get the value from a database for other two fields with out submitting jsp page. I am using struts.
    Thanks For any assistance provided.

    Alright,here is an example for you for the first case.
    Present.jsp:
    ============
    <html:html>
    <head>
    <title><html:message key="page.title"/></title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <html:form action="ChangeEvent.do">
    <html:hidden property="method"/>
    <!-- Submitting the Form onKeyUp of EmpId field and trying to save the
         state of the Form in the scope of session -->
    Emp Id:<html:text property="empId" size="5"  onkeyup="if(true){this.form.elements[0].value='populateDetails';this.form.submit();}"/>
    Emp Name:<html:text property="empName" size="10" />
    Email Address:<html:text property="email" size="10" />
    <html:submit>Submit</html:submit>
    </html:form>
    </body>
    </html:html>struts-config.xml:
    ==================
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>
    <!DOCTYPE struts-config PUBLIC "-//Apache Software Foundation//DTD Struts Configuration 1.1//EN" "http://jakarta.apache.org/struts/dtds/struts-config_1_1.dtd">

       <form-property name="email" type="java.lang.String" />
    </form-bean>
    </form-bean>
    <action-mappings>
    <action path="/ChangeEvent" type="Test.GetChangeAction" name="employeeFormBean" scope="request" parameter="method">

    </action>
    </action-mappings>
    </struts-config>GetChangeAction.java:

            String empId = dForm.get("empId");
            // calling Model / Db and then getting back Employee Details
            EmployeeBean eb = ModelUtils.getDetails(empId);
            // Updating form bean by updating values from the Model
            dForm.set("empName".eb.getEmpName());
            dForm.set("email".eb.getEmail());
            return mapping.findForward("success");
    }well to me this should work regardless to any browser but we need to make sure we put in our logic properly.

  • MAKING TWO REQUESTS FROM A JSP AND HANDLING TWO RESPONSE ????????

    Hi,
    I have a requirement like below.
    When a user clicks on download_pdf link on a web page, he should get the pdf data from the server where at the same time he should be shown with a processing window. Say the time taking for hitting the server and getting the response is 10 sec, the processing window should be shown for 10 sec and immediately it has to close.
    My approach :
    From JSP having download_pdf link :: while onClick I am calling an action which is nothing but a servlet call which will take care of getting the pdf data from the server and shown pdf save,cancel window. Other part is onClick I added a javascript function call which will open a seperate window (nothing but a jsp ) showing the processing icon.
    The problem here is, I can not close the window immediately after we get the response from the servlet.
    As we can not have direct communication between two responses(servlet reponse and processing window jsp) I am not able to close the window.
    My trials to close the processing window JSP :
    I tried to write a javascript in the processing window jsp which will be closed after 10 sec using setTimeout() funtion. But here the problem is the window will be closed after 10 sec where even if servlet call response takes 20 sec.
    Please suggest me if I need to do any design change ?
    Can I use any context attributes to come out of this ?
    What would be the best design for this ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    V.Narayana.

    Thanks for the idea.. I am trying to implement that.. Can you please let me know how Can I make a repetitive ajax call ??
    If anyone interested in code, I am pasting all the sample files I prepared for..

    As the [HTML specification|http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/interact/forms.html] states, you should be setting the enctype to multipart/form-data to be able to upload files to the server. In the server side, you need to process the multipart/form-data binary stream by parsing the HttpServletRequest#getInputStream(). It is a lot of work to get it to work flawlessly. There are 3rd party API's around which can do that for you, such as [Apache Commons FileUpload|http://commons.apache.org/fileupload] (carefully read the User Guide how to use it).
    You can also consider to use a Filter which makes use of the FileUpload API to preprocess the request so that you can continue writing the servlet code as usual. Here is an example: [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/11/multipartfilter.html].

    but i already set up the java compiler though i m getting this error. please help me.

    You say you have set up the environment variables, but it is not working. You may have them set to the wrong thing. One common mistake is to point JAVA_HOME at the java/bin directory rather than just the /java directory.
    Another set of eyes finds small mistakes in the variables that you might not spot yourself.
    So please, post:
    The values of these environment variables
    The path to where the products are installed on your system (ie is it c:\java or c:\j2se1_4_2 or c:\program files?
    I would take another close look at that JAVA_HOME variable to make sure of it :-)
    Good luck,

  • Problem with String in JSP! Help Me

    Hi all,
    i spent my whole day with this error. How can i solve it. I am trying to convert a string array to Integer array. The program is taking all the select input from the previous JSP page and then converting them into integer array for storing to database. i am catching them as request.getParameterValues(); but i found out that if i select 4 item from the menu it is storing in 8 array cells and the format is if you select 1 2 3 4 the it stores [1 null 2 null 3 null 4 null] i guessed that those are null values. so i have tried to select only 1 2 3 4 from the array and it is showing number format error on tomcat. here is the code guys. Please i am tired of it please help me. Thanks. SORRY I TRIED TO SEPARATE THE CODE BUT IT SEEMS LIKE THERE ARE SOME PROBLEM IN THE FORUM SETTINGS. so the code is:

  • How to create a directory for JSPs under infrastructure "root"?

    Hi,
    I'm not very familiar with Oracle 10gAS, but someone else got it configured and running on a Solaris 9 system, so my terminology may not be correct...
    We now have an "infrastructure" website (at port 7777) and an "ias" website (at port 8000).
    Right now, under the "infrastructure" website, we have the following applications:
    - sso
    - oiddas
    These all are "under" an OC4J instance called "OC4J_SECURITY".
    I need to somehow configure things so that I have a directory directly under the "root" of the "infrastructure" website (e.g., at http://<host>:7777/myjspdirectory) where I can run some JSPs. For example, I want to be able to put a JSP named "foo.jsp" and be able to access it at http://<host>:7777/myjspdirectory/foo.jsp.
    Is there a SIMPLE way to do this? If there is, can someone provide the specific steps (e.g., which directories, and files I need to create/modify)?
    It's not a "full" web application, so I don't want to have to create a WAR, etc.
    So far, I think that I need to add some "MountOc4j" lines to the mod_oc4j.conf file:
    Oc4jMount /myjspdirectory OC4J_SECURITY
    Oc4jMount /myjspdirectory/* OC4J_SECURITY
    But, after that I'm kind of lost :(...
    Is the only way to create a full WAR and then try to deploy it?
    Sorry if my question is somewhat confused, but I guess I am :(...
    Thanks in advance,
    Jim

    qlin,
    Ok, thanks.
    I've been working on creating a WAR the last several hours. I don't have 10g AS here at home, so I've been testing the deployment of the WAR on Tomcat.
    If the WAR deploys all right in something like Tomcat, will it deploy correctly in 10g AS also?
    Are there any "gotchas" that I should be aware of ahead of deploying the WAR on 10g AS?
    Also, I have a bunch of JSPs, but in the the web.xml that I'm using in my testing, it seems to work even though I don't list all of the JSPs. Here's what I have:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.2//EN" "http://java.sun.com/j2ee/dtds/web-app_2_2.dtd">
    <web-app>
         <servlet>
              <servlet-name>foo1</servlet-name>
              <jsp-file>foo1.jsp</jsp-file>
         </servlet>
         <display-name>WhatEverNameYouWantDisplayed</display-name>
         <description>replace this with a short description</description>
         <welcome-file-list>
              <welcome-file>foo.html</welcome-file>
         </welcome-file-list>
    </web-app>
    Is that (only including one pair of <servlet-name> and <jsp-file> tags all right, or do I have to include a pair of tags for EACH JSP?
    Other than the above, hopefully things will go all right tomorrow... I'm going to have to undo the edits that I did manually on mod_oc4j.conf (the Mount...) and in server.xml before I try the WAR deploy, I think, right?
