Jsp accessing a database

is it possible for two jsp files to access the same database????
i have the following code and im not sure if its the code thats causing my errors or if its how i have my datbase setup.
<%
if (request.getMethod().equals("POST")) {
%>
<jsp:useBean id="user" class="com.jguru.GetRoute">
<jsp:setProperty name="user" property="*"/>
</jsp:useBean>
<p>
<hr>
<font color=green>
<b>You submitted:<P>
Start Town = :</b><br>
<jsp:getProperty name="user" property="startTown"/><br>
<br>
<%-- Connect to the database--%>
<%
String data = "jdbc:odbc:Routes.mdb";
String query = "Select * FROM Table1";
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
java.sql.Connection connection = java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(data);
java.sql.Statement s = connection.createStatement();
java.sql.ResultSet record = s.executeQuery(query);
while(record.next())
     %><br><br><%=record.getString("Towns")%> <%=record.getInt("Distance") %> <%=record.getString("Road") %><br><br><%
connection.close();
%>
<%
%>

String data = "jdbc:odbc:Routes.mdb";JDBC URLs have the format:
jdbc:<subprotocal>:<data source identifier>
You should use SystemDSN, not your database name here. After you set up System DSN i.e. RoutesDSN,(Start->Settings->Control Panel->ODBC Data Sources -> System DSN ->Add... ) then using
String data = "jdbc:odbc:RoutesDSN";
If you get error, post your error message.

  • Accessing MySql database in jsp

    hi everyone!!!
    i m new to java with little knowledge of jsp.
    i want to access mysql database in jsp to develop a web page.
    i have jdk and mysql installed and these are working. what are other requirements and how to do this.
    plz help.
    OS: MS Windows XP/ Fedora 10

    Learn JDBC API: [http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/index.html]. Create a DAO class which uses JDBC to interact with Java and takes or returns the desired data in form of DTO's. Use and test it as a plain vanilla Java application with a main() method. This require a JDBC driver (a concrete implementation of the JDBC API) in the classpath. MySQL offers JDBC drivers as download at their homepage, it is called "Connector/J".
    Once you got the JDBC part to work, create a Servlet class which holds an instance of the DAO class and uses its methods to interact with the database. In the doGet() you can place logic to preload data from the DAO class for display. In the doPost() you can place logic to process data for create, update or delete using the DAO class. Finally let it forward the request to a JSP.
    In the JSP you can use JSTL/EL to display data. For tabular view you may find the JSTL c:forEach useful. For plain display, just use EL the usual way.

  • JSP and Access 2007 database

    i've been trying to look for codes on how to access the Access 2007 database (.accdb).
    i've done a previous JSP app with Access database, but it is of a lower version (.mdb).
    i need something like the following, but for the 2007 version. is it just a matter of changing the extension for both statements, or is there more to it?
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    String DBQ = request.getRealPath("sales.mdb");
    String database = "jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=" + DBQ + ";DriverID=22;READONLY=true";thanks.

    <%@page import="java.sql.*" %>
    <table boder="1">
    <%
    Statement statement;
    Connection conn;
    String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost/dbName";
    String user = "username";
    String pass = "password";
    try {
        class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
        conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url, user, pass);
        statement = conn.createStatement();
    String query = "SELECT images FROM database";
    ResultSet results = statement.executeQuery(query);
    while(results.next()) {
    %>
        <tr>
            <td><img src="<%= results.getString("images") %>"></td>
        </tr>
    <% } %>
    </table>The while loop will loop through your result set and print the table row for each image it finds in the query.
    Hope this helps,

  • JSP - access database

    Hi,
    Im making a application JSP, but I have problems with the access for Database (Sybase SQL Anywhere). Somebody will can help me as to make this access? I have used connection jdbc.odbc.
    Thanks for all and sorry my English.

    You need the appropriate JDBC driver. The database is unlikely to be set up as an ODBC data source, and you don't want it to be anyway.
    And don't access the DB from the JSP. That's a task for the model/business part of your app, not for the final representation of a set of data.

  • How to access MDB database from JSP Web Application?

    hi
    i am using tomact and developing appplication in which i have to insert data into MDB database and read/Update/Delete Data in MDB DataBase.
    could any help in this issue?
    Thanks
    Regards

    Hi,
    For accessing MDB database, you must have a jdbc:odbc driver, u can get it from sun site.
    just put it into the lib folder of web server.
    or
    just follow the following link:

  • WHY can't I access my database from an applet???????????

    The security code won't let my applet access its own database (from its own server)..
    I'm using getDocumentBase()
    to try and tell it that it is my own damn file..
    I keep getting :
    java.securityAccessControlException: access denied <java.util.PropertyPermission jdbc.drivers write>
    ...etc.
    This applet crap is really starting to piss me off. I can see why they came out with JSP.
    All I need to do is access my database, update it, etc. It kind of defeats the purpose of being able to do jdbc from applets if you can't even access the database on your own damn server.
    If you all don't have a clue, I'm freakin switching to PHP--I'm tired of this crap-I was thinking Java was a damn good language until I hit applets.

    The simple answer to your question is: Because of security concerns.
    The somewhat longer answer is that directly accessing a database from an applet is generally not a good idea. A lot of security-critical code like DB username/password must be hidden in the applet which potentially can be downloaded (and disassembled) by anyone that hits your webpage. Maybe you do an intranet solution with trusted users but that is not what applets were originally designed for.
    The clean way is to make your applet talk to a servlet that talks to your database.
    If that is not the way you want to do it, make sure that all client policy files (yes, on the browser machine) contain the permissions that your applet needs.

    To be clear when you say the command works in query analyzer. Is this the exact string that you are running in query analyzer?
    SELECT username,"password" FROM WebAppUsers WHERE username='akabeera'AND password='avenash'AND archive = 'no'This exact string (the SELECT) looks syntactically incorrect to me, but that doesn't mean your database SQL parser cannot handle it I guess (lack of spaces between quotes keywords), and I'm not sure about the double quotes, but I'm kind of an Oracle guy and all of this could be OK, it just seems messy if nothing else.
    I would recommend using first, a type 4 driver if at all possible (not the JDBC/ODBC bridge), and second To avoid much of this messiness, you should whenever possible use a PreparedStatement rather then Statement for this type (and most types) of queries.

  • Can midlet directly access a database?

    I'm creating a midlet that connects to a database. Do i need to go through a server and then access the database or can i directly access the database through the midlet?
    Does anyone have a sample code that have a midlet interacts directly with a database? Or is it impposible to do so without going through a web server.
    Blaise,

    Your message arrived at the rigth address :)
    I am experienced in J2ME programming and made several projects with it including my graduation thesis . (you can check http://2m.turkmenweb.com for my J2ME projects).
    You can directly acces from MIDlet DB, but it is not so reccomended, since mobile devices have certain limitations. When we had to use DB in our J2ME projects(with MIDP1.0 and MIDP2.0) we achieved it by collaboration of JSP with our MIDlet.. That is MIDlet was only sending a URL to Tomcat Server (JSP server) i.e. http://someurl.com/show?task=topusers, and this URL was parsed by a Servlet which was making all needed conenctions to DB.
    I also know that there are K editions (very small) of DBMS built especially for mobile devices. You can use them also .. I guess Oracle has such a thing..
    Good luck!

    <snip>The subject of this forum is Oracle databases. How does your problem relate to that subject?
    Two bits of advice:
    1) Make sure you ask questions in a forum related to your problem.
    2) If you want to be taken seriously as a professional, drop the MS IM Speak and use the language of the forum. In this forum it is English, which is successfully used by many people for whom English is far from their native language.

    Hi Sara,
    First of all thank you very much for your prompt responses. Here are my comments to each of your suggestions below, and just to let you know I am using a Farm Admin account.  I
    was able to do this way after we upgraded from SP 2007 to SP 2010 as well.   I would like to mention I'm not a SP expert, just been given the responsibility due to another person handling it just left, so apologize with some of
    my novice questions below?
    1. When I change the Operators to "Contains" or "Not Contains" get generates this error below.
         Error generating in red towards top of the audience page..."One or more values typed on this page are not valid.  Check the text for the indicated fields."
         Error occurred where you enter your "Value"..."Could not resolve the user identity. Please re-enter the account name."
    2. We have a 3-server-tier topology (SPWeb, SPDB, and SPFarm).  Does the updates only apply to where the Central Admin is installed, which is the "SPFarm"?  I checked all
    3 servers, and NONE of the updates (KB2899494, KB2889845, and KB2883055) you'd mentioned are installed.
    3. I'm new to IISRET, I need to be extra cautious of what I run in production, is this safe to run with no problem?  What does it do?  And How do I run it?
    4. I'm also new to viewing the ULS log.  I'd just downloaded a viewer for it.  I'm assuming the only logs I need to be concern with viewing are within the SPAdmin (where Central
    Admin is installed)?  There's so many of them, what should I be looking for exactly?

  • How to access multiple database present in single instance

    Hi Team,
    In oracle 11.2, can there be multiple databases in an instance???  In one of our environment, I could see multiple databases in an instance. Could you please help me in giving the data dictionary or query to access those databases?
    Actually, querying v$database, I could see only one database which is same as instance name. But in inventory, there are multiple database in an instance?
    I am still not exactly clear about this. Can someone help me with this?
    Thanks!
    Vidhya

    In Oracle one instance manages one (1) database. A database consists of multiple *schemas*.
    Other vendors erroneously call a schema 'database'.
    So, no, you didn't see multiple databases.
    There is also one datadictionary, consisting of a set of views.

    Oracle also has online documentation at http://docs.oracle.com
    From your question it is clear you should read the document called the 'Oracle Concepts Manual'.
    You can find all documentation for 11gR2 here Oracle Database Online Documentation 11g Release 2 (11.2)
    Too many people here don't make any effort to read it. This is probably the reason why you got no response.

  • Not able to access the Database & Clusterware from OEM Console.

    hi,
    I had installed Oracle RAC 11g R2 in RHEL 5.3 Operating environment. I had installed my Oracle RAC with Enterprise Manager Console.
    Its with the defailt port 1158. After the installation when i try to access my EM Console, i was not able to access the Database and Clusterware from EM Console.
    When i access the EM console with url, I found with Startup and Perform Recovery option. But whereas my database is already startup and running.
    So when i click startup its saying database is already started. Since it is a prodution environment i dont want to go with Perform recovery option.
    Please tell me hw to attach files in this thread so that i can send the snap shot of the console for your reference.

    hi,
    As mentioned due to not having the default listener port 1521, we are facing this problem.
    As meniotned i had changed the emoms.properties file and changed the port and my emctl page is opening.
    But am not able to access the other parameters like ASM, Servers, Clusters etc bcoz since in some file it is looking for 1521 default port.
    So is it better to go for emctl deconfig and config again or to change the port the files which required.
    If i do in what are the file the default port will be located related to emctl.

  • "Failed to retrieve data for this request" occurred when I tried to access a database.

    Hi,
    I installed the sql server 2008 Client on my pc, so that I can connect to a remote sql server 2008 Enterprise cluster.  Here is what happened:
    0. Added myself as a db_owner on the two databases in the sql server cluster.
    1. On my windows xp pro, I typed the server name and log in.
    2. After I logged in, I clicked on the Databases to expand the node.  However, an error prompt says,
    "Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc)
    The server principal "DomainName\MyName" is not able to access the database "DevicelockDB" under the current security context. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)"
    I only need to connect to two databases that I created on the sql cluster.  I don't know why the DevicelockDB is needed before I can access two databases.  What does DevicelockDB do?  Do I need it for connecting to a database?  Let me know, thanks in advance.

    I had the same problem , this one resolved the problem , thank you  deshmukhsdineshd

  • Trying to access 10gr2 database from sqlplus utility but it connects to 11g

    Hi All,
    I am facing below issue while access 10gr2 database from sqlplus.
    I am having two oracle homes on one server one belongs to 11gr2 and another belongs to 10gr2.
    I want to access a 10gr2 database through sqlplus utility.but instaed of connecting to 10gr2 it is connecting to 11gr2 after I enter a user name and passowrd.
    I have set all the env variables such as oracle_home ,oracle_sid and path with respect to Oracle 10gr2.
    Can you please let me kno what I need to do to connect to 10gr2 database and not 11gr2 database through sql plus.
    Let me know if I need to give any more details on this.
    Best Regards,
    Dipti S

    Hi Rocky,
    I got the resolution.
    I made a mistake by creating an oracle instance/service(e.g. fsdmo) when Oracle_home was pointing to 11gR2 Directory.so that service was refering to 11gr2 oracle home.
    hence when I was setting oracle_sid(fsdmo) and trying to access database instance from 11g sqlplus utility ,it was directing to 11g and not 10g since oracle service was pointing to 11g.
    So now after chnaging the oracle home directory to 11g,I am creating a service and its working fine.
    thank you so much for responding.
    hope I am clear with my reply.
    Best Regards,
