JSP, BC$J, Data Tags: Displaying LOV from a dynamic query

Hi,
In my JSP program, I need to do the following:
(1) Display a LOV displaying EmpName.
(2)When a user selects a name, EmpId should be available for passing as a session variable to another JSP.
(3)For this purpose, the where clause of the query used for LOV is to be set dyanamically using a session variable. The order by clause may also have to be set dynamically.
I tried to use CreateViewObject data tag for creating the view object. I then tried to use InputSelectLOV data tag. However, I received the message that the View object could not be located in the application module.
Could you please let me know how I could resolve the above?
Thanks in advance.

Post you sample page.

  • Trying to display results from access database query on a JSP

    Seem to be having real difficulty with this one, i keep getting a null pointer exception :(. Wondered if anyone could point me to any examples of displaying the results on jsp. The database is connected, as i can display the query on netbeans, but just not on a jsp.

    I think it would be good if we had a section in these forums for pre-canned answers to the same questions that come up again and again. It would save time.
    Here is a rough outline for using JSP:
    * Read a JSP book.
    * The JSP page (View in MVC) should get all the data it needs to display from a useBean and/or request.getAttribute().
    * The JSP page should not have any business logic. Its purpose is to display data only (and have some submit buttons such as 'update').
    You can do some basic client side validation using javascript if you want. Because there is no business logic in it, you can easily debug
    your code in the servlet or business logic. You can't set breakpoints in JSP and examine data easily.
    * When you click the submit button, all data from <input type="text" tags, etc is put into request scope via name/value pairs.
    * Submit the JSP page <form tag to a servlet (Control in MVC).
    * The servlet reads the name/value pairs of data from the JSP page via request.getParameter()
    * The servlet should then instansiate a business object (Model in MVC), passing the data it got from the page to the business logic.
    Example: ProcessPage processPage();
    if(request.getParameter("updateButtonClicked"))
    processPage.updateData(data from the jsp page)
    * The business logic should instansiate a separate database object (DAO) to get data to/from the database. Business logic should not have sql in it.
    Business logic should not generate html. Business logic should not have request objects in it.
    * The business logic should return data to the servlet that in turn will put it in request scope via request.setAttribute() so the JSP page can draw itself.
    * The servlet should then call up the approprate JSP page.

  • Returning a result set/record from a dynamic query

    There seems to be plenty of examples for using Native Dynamic Sql to formulate and execute a dynamic query, however there are no examples of returning a result set or records which contain the rows of data that are retrieved by executing the query. Could someone give us an example?

    Welcome to the Oracle forum....
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE curspkg_join AS
    TYPE t_cursor IS REF CURSOR ;
    Procedure open_join_cursor1 (n_EMPNO IN NUMBER, io_cursor IN OUT t_cursor);
    END curspkg_join;
    Create the following Oracle package body on the Oracle server:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY curspkg_join AS
    Procedure open_join_cursor1 (n_EMPNO IN NUMBER, io_cursor IN OUT t_cursor)
    IS
    v_cursor t_cursor;
    BEGIN
    IF n_EMPNO <> 0
    THEN
    OPEN v_cursor FOR
    SELECT EMP.EMPNO, EMP.ENAME, DEPT.DEPTNO, DEPT.DNAME
    FROM EMP, DEPT
    WHERE EMP.DEPTNO = DEPT.DEPTNO
    AND EMP.EMPNO = n_EMPNO;
    ELSE
    OPEN v_cursor FOR
    SELECT EMP.EMPNO, EMP.ENAME, DEPT.DEPTNO, DEPT.DNAME
    FROM EMP, DEPT
    WHERE EMP.DEPTNO = DEPT.DEPTNO;
    END IF;
    io_cursor := v_cursor;
    END open_join_cursor1;
    END curspkg_join;
    Dim Oraclecon As New OracleConnection("Password=pwd;" & _
    "User ID=uid;Data Source=MyOracle;")
    Oraclecon.Open()
    Dim myCMD As New OracleCommand()
    myCMD.Connection = Oraclecon
    myCMD.CommandText = "curspkg_join.open_join_cursor1"
    myCMD.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
    myCMD.Parameters.Add(New OracleParameter("io_cursor", OracleType.Cursor)).Direction = ParameterDirection.Output
    myCMD.Parameters.Add("n_Empno", OracleType.Number, 4).Value = 123
    Dim myReader As OracleDataReader
    Try
    myCMD.ExecuteNonQuery()
    Catch myex As Exception
    MsgBox(myex.Message)
    End Try
    myReader = myCMD.Parameters("io_cursor").Value
    Dim x, count As Integer
    count = 0
    Do While myReader.Read()
    For x = 0 To myReader.FieldCount - 1
    Console.Write(myReader(x) & " ")
    Next
    Console.WriteLine()
    count += 1
    Loop
    MsgBox(count & " Rows Returned.")
    myReader.Close()
    Oraclecon.Close()
    The above code is working in one of our application; which is using ref cursor as result set and get from procedure. I hope you can found more code by google and/or search in this forum as well; if above code is not useful to you.

  • Displaying results from a database query using servlets

    I have this HTML form where users can search a MS Access database by entering a combination of EmployeeID, First name or last name. This form invokes a Java Servlet which searches the database and displays the results as an HTML page. I am giving the user the choice of displaying 3, 5 or 10 results per page. I want to know how to do that using servlets. If a particular search results in 20 results, the results should be displayed in sets of 3, 5 or 10 depending on the user's choice. If the user makes a choice of 5 results per page then 4 pages should be displayed with a "next" and "previous" button on each page. I want to know how this can be done.

    Arun,
    I'm not sure how to do this using JSP as I have not worked on JSP.
    But I can give you a hint on how to do this within normal java class as I've used this in my current project.
    In your core class/bean that generates the entire resultset, you need to run a loop that will scan through the desired number of records in the resultset.
    To do this, you have to have skip and max parameter in your URL.
    Somthing like http://server.com/myservlet?skip=0&max=10 to display first 10 records, http://server.com/myservlet?skip=10&max=10 to display next 10 records. The <next>parameter would be fed in by the user by a simple form in your web-page. If you need to hold this <max-num-of-recs-per-page> param, you can store it in a cookie (since this is nothing crucial piece of info, don't need to use session obj etc...cookie will do) and get the value each time you display the resultset.
    So, essentially, suppose you are at the first page and you wish to show 10 recs at a time. The link for "Next" button would be http://server.com/myservlet?skip=10&max=10
    when at the second page, you'll have
    "priv" button as http://server.com/myservlet?skip=0&max=10 and
    "next" button as http://server.com/myservlet?skip=20&max=10 and so on...
    hope this makes sense..

  • Getting file data and displaying it in a dynamic text box

    The purpose of this function is to load and display a
    specific menu for a restaurant (lunch, dinner, dessert, etc.)
    This script is located inside of a movie clip that has the
    text box and buttons.
    There are 4 buttons that have event listeners that go to a
    function that determines which button was pushed, and then sends a
    call to loadMenu with a string that has the filename.txt.
    In frame 1 of the movie clip, the variables used in the code
    are declared as such:
    var newMenuRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest();
    var newMenuLoad:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var loadThisMenu:String = ""; //This is the variable the
    buttonclick function alters and sets as the string to send to the
    loadMenu.

    Yeah I realize it's a little inefficient.

  • UILoader won't display images from PHP/MYSQL query

    I'm working on an online photo catalog, it works in straight PHP/HTML http://www.buckleyphotos.com/search/index.php but the photos are too easy to grab (Facebook and myspace are loaded with my photos). I know anything on screen can be grabbed, I just want to make it a little harder.
    I've got a version of the ordering page with a SWF on it that will hopefully display the photos, http://www.buckleyphotos.com/searchtest/showpic.php?num=1&showpic=21_71909_6908.jpg&el=200 9-07-19+NEMX+Crow+Hill&riderno=21, but so far no luck.
    Here's the PHP:
    <?php
    $page = $_GET['num'];
    $el = urlencode($_GET["el"]);
    $riderno = $_GET["riderno"];
    $showPic = strtolower($_GET["showpic"]);
    echo "$showPic";
    ?>
    This is the Actionscript:
    import fl.containers.UILoader;
    var loader:UILoader = new UILoader();
    loader.scaleContent = false;
    loader.source = "showPic.php";
    addChild(loader);
    The SWF is in the same folder as the images.
    Any help will be much appreciated.

    $showPic = strtolower($_GET["showpic"]);
    echo "$showPic";

    hi Juan
    I didn't copy all the code source. but the releasepageresources tag is there. and I have only put this code because when I delete it no exception is thrown so the problem is there( in data tags).
    more than this when this exception is thrown I have only to relog to a new windows 2000 session and no exception is thrown.

  • How can I get dataTable to display values from the java layer?

    When I use the dataTAble in my JSP page it will only display values from my java layer if the facets tag has it's name set to "header". Why is this happening?
    If I set it to "header" and I look at the page source it actually has created the correct number of rows but it doesn't put the values between the <td> tags? It see's the length of my list but it doesn't pick the values out of the list.

    I've been able to get it working with some of those changes along with changes in the JSP. I think it's a setting or two in the JSP that'll allow the program to run correctly.
    I have a list and it's returned like what you suggested. A day or two ago I tried to move the outputtext outside of the facet tag but nothing would print, I know believe that's related to the following setting in the JSP:
    rows="0" in the <h:dataTAble tag
    Unfortunately the dataTAble isn't displaying the values correctly. It prints all of the values (Strings) in the list on each row and it make a new row for the number of items in the list.......... ???
    Here's what it's printing to the screen (the table):
    ===================
    == [asdasd], [sddfdfd] ==
    ===================
    ===================
    == [asdasd], [sddfdfd]==
    ===================
    what it should print:
    ============
    == [asdasd] ==
    ============
    ============
    == [sddfdfd] ==
    ============
    My code:
    public List gettest()
              List li = new ArrayList();
              li.add("asdasd");
              li.add("affffd");
              return li;
              }JSP
    <h:dataTable border="1" columnClasses="list-column-left"
        headerClass="list-header"
        rowClasses="list-row-odd"
        id="table"
        rows="0"
        value="#{NameBean.test}"
        var="data">
    <h:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <h:outputText value="test"/>
    </f:facet>
    <h:outputText value="#{NameBean.test}" style="" rendered="true" escape="false"/>
    </h:column>

  • Adding data to array from an empty query

                   exportedtime_formated = new String[f2a+1];
                   exportedtime[f2a]=fuel2a_myResultSet.getString("exportedtime");

    I'd be curious to know if it would be possible to rewrite your query using a JOIN so you could get all the data in one query. The way you've written it will require N network round trips, where N is the number of engine serial numbers. I wonder if clever application of a JOIN with a GROUP BY would do the trick in one?
    I don't care for the formatting stuff you're doing, either. There's no need to ask the database for that. Bring the dates over and handle the formatting in Java using java.text.SimpleDateFormat. Less work for the database AND it won't be so tied to Oracle, since you won't need that TO_CHAR function anymore.
    I'd give clients the raw java.sql.Date and let them worry about formatting it the way they wish. That's not a persistence concern.
    I always prefer data structures like List and Map when I'm working with database result sets. They grow to fit the # of records that I get back. If I want arrays, I can always use the toArray() method to generate them.

  • Using JSPs and passing data from 1 page to the next

    I have an application which has a number of JSPs.
    JSP1 has some fields and buttons.
    One of these buttons is called 'Print'. On pressing this control
    is passed to the next JSP2. In this JSP the data is displayed
    from the database. It is displayed via some TABLE tags, thus giving
    multiple records displayed. There is also a check box against each record and having checked this box - the user can then then press another button which takes the user to another JSP - JSP3 - which gives the user a list of options for printing. They then can do 1 of 2 things - print a report or print some labels.
    I have got this to work where there is only 1 record displayed in JSP2.
    But where more than one record is displayed in JSP2 - JSP3 does NOT
    know how to handle this and says the variable is undefined.
    The code I am using to reference the JSP2 variable is
    var batchNumber = top.opener.document.printTranscript.batchNumber2.value;
    Any help or ideas would really be appreciated.
    Thanx

    Hi
    If you are using JavaScript, try putting data in a Hidden field and perform request.getParameter in the next page, Place data in a Delimited fashion when placing into the hidden field, on the next page split these values and place where you want them to be.
    This is a proven method...

  • HOW TO: Create a JSP Insert Record Form Using BC4J Data Tags

    This is a JDeveloper Tech Note found on the OTN Documentation page. This note describes the use of the BC4J data tags to create insert/submit JSP pages. Here is a link:
    http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/jdev/technotes/datatag_input/Insert_Form.html

    You can loop throgh query records whit an implicit cursor (which automatically manages the open cursor, fetch and next record):
      for rec in (select intime,outtime,barcode,attend_date from dail_att; )
      loop
           t_in :=rec.intime;
           t_out :=rec.outtime;
           t_code :=rec.barcode;
           t_date := attend_date;
             PUT YOUR CODE HERE ... (if ..then... elsif... logic)
             you can avoid setting variables 'cause you can directly use the implicit cursor variables: rec.intime etc.
      end loop;
    END;Anyway, I suggest you to check the where condition of your block ... because if not all data are retrieved there should be a problem in your query ... so even the cursor (if based on very same query) will return less data than expected.

  • JSP, Data tags, How to build a form edit with multiple records

    Hi, I'm using Jdev 9i.
    I would like to have a JSP form where I can update, delete, insert records displayed in the same page.
    I know that I can use the data tag jbo:DataEdit to do it, but it only works with a single record, I want to have several records in the same page, displayed horizontally.
    The best example is a form to add items in an invoice:
    Productid description quantity price
    1001 xxx 10 20.00
    1002 yyy 15 30.00
    1003 zzz 7 10.00
    Could you give some help please?
    Thanks in advance.

    The form display is dictated by how you process the submit. I would build the form by using standard html tags. Here is another pseudo example:
    <FORM ACTION="target.jsp" >
    <TABLE>
    <TR>
    <TD>
    DeptNo
    </TD>
    <TD>
    DName
    </TD>
    <TR>
    <%
    int nRow = 0;
    %>
    <jbo:RowsetIterate datasource="ds">
    <%
    // increment the row number
    nRow++;
    String sDeptno = "Deptno" + nRow;
    String sDname = "Dname" + nRow;
    String sRowKey = "RowKey" + nRow;
    %>
    <jbo:Row id="myrow" action="current">
    <TR>
    <TD>
    <input type="text" name="<%=sDeptno%>" value='<jbo:ShowValue dataitem="Deptno" />' />
    </TD>
    <TD>
    <input type="text" name="<%=sDname%>" value='<jbo:ShowValue dataitem="Dname" />' />
    <input type="text" name="<%=sRowKey%>" value='<jbo:ShowValue dataitem="RowKey" />' />
    </TD>
    <TR>
    </jbo:Row>
    </jbo:RowsetIterate>
    <input type="submit" />
    </TABLE>
    </FORM>
    NOTE: This should get you started!!!

  • Reg dynamically displaying records from database into a jsp page

    I am working in a project which is using struts and hibernate.In a class I gave code for retrieving data from a table and I put it in a list.
    List retrieveList;
    public List getRetrieveList() {
    String SQL_QUERY ="from student s";
    Query query = session.createQuery(SQL_QUERY);
    retrieveList = query.list();
    return retrieveList;
    public void setRetrieveList(List retrieveList) {
    this.retrieveList = retrieveList;
    And this list value I want to be displayed in a jsp page.What I have given is :
    <jsp:useBean id="records" class="StudentImpl" scope="session" />
    <bean:define id="list" name="records" property="retrieveList" />
    <table align="center" bordercolor="black" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="10">
    <logic:iterate id="data" name="list" type="pojo.student" indexId="index">
    <tr>
    <td><html:multibox property="checked" value=""></html:multibox></td>
    <td><bean:write name="data" property="studentname" /></td>
    <td><bean:write name="data" property="age" /></td>
    </tr>
    </logic:iterate>
    </table>
    When I run my jsp page its showing an error
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: [Ljava.lang.Object; cannot be cast to pojo.Student
    can anyone resolve this problem?
