Jsp debugging in eclipse wtp

i'm using wtp eclipse and oc4j 10.
I'm unable to debug jsp. I run the server with the debug option but
the breakpoints in the jsp are ignored. please help.

Nope the value is interpreted by the debugger, it's
the value of the Integer in the array. The addElement
method is a void.yes, i guess that's what I tried to express that it's the value of the integer in the array -> Integer(1), Integer(2), Integer(3), right?
fFull.addElement(new Integer(1));
fFull.addElement(new Integer(2));
fFull.addElement(new Integer(3));

  • JSP Debugging with Eclipse 3.2 WTP

    I am using OC4J 10.1.3 Standalone and the latest version of Eclipse WTP. Has anybody been able to debug JSP pages with this configuration? I have found a few references to getting remote debugging to work using JDeveloper, but nothing regarding WTP.
    I have tried setting the debug <init-param> to class, but the breakpoints are not hit when starting the server in debug mode. I have also set the debug_mode and emit_debuginfo init parameters to true. The development attribute in the orion-web-app element is set to true.
    I have tried starting OC4J using the following command:
    java -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=y,address=4000 -jar oc4j.jar
    and then debugging through Eclipse using a Remote Java Application launcher and connecting to port 4000. Again, no breakpoint is hit even though Eclipse does connect ok to port 4000.
    I am trying to debug a simple JSP named index.jsp with a breakpoint on the line <% out.print("Hello, World!"); %>. Nothing fancy.
    Do I need to use the JspOjcCompiler compiler even though I am not using JDeveloper? I was not able to get this compiler to work. It was failing with the _index class not found.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi, I didn't get an email notifying me of a response to this. Just happened to check myself.
              But basically you want to point the weblogic server directly to your workspace (src code) so it can detect a change. THis is from our doc below. You may also write an ant script specific to weblogic that redeploys the app and reloads the xml and prop files without restarting the server.
              1.     Start up your Weblogic domain server (i.e., C:\Domains\devDomain\startWebLogic.cmd).
              2.     Go to url, http://localhost:7001/console and log in (weblogic, weblogic).
              3.     On the left menu, click Deployments, then Lock & Edit button above it, and then the Install button in the main panel.
              4.     Change the location to the web folder in your project workspace (C:\Eclipse\workspace\<projectname>\web) Click Next.
              5.     Leave checked the Install this deployment as an application and click Next.
              6.     Put name for Name of deployment. . From here you can click Finish.
              7.     Click Activate Changes. Then check the deployment box and click Start button and Servicing all requests (in Deployments panel). Then click Yes to start it on the next page
              8.     Enter the URL of the application. This example is
              http://localhost:7001/web/index.htm
              The ?web? was the name of the web folder we deployed from. In the future you could name this something different if deploying from this console so the url?s do not conflict.

  • Jsp-debugging: breakpoints wont work!

    hi,
    i am trying to enable jsp-debugging with eclipse 3, lomboz 3.0.0 and tomcat 5.5.4 (both working
    as an eclipse plugin).
    What happens so far is:
    i write an jsp using lomboz, the jsp is converted to a servlet and stored / copied to a folder
    called j2src in the eclipse workspace (the folder j2src is created by lomboz).
    if i now call the url http://localhost:8080/mywebmodule/jsptest.jsp the jsp is executed faultless
    and in the j2src-folder the corresponding class file appears.
    so, everything works fine, the problem that i now have, is that i can set breakpoints for debugging
    purposes in eclipse in the generated servlet-file under j2src, but this breakpoints are simply ignored, which means the
    servlet is fully executed regardless of where i set the breakpoints, and i really dont get it why, since
    my tomcat works completely in the eclipse workspace.
    do i have to configure the tomcat to enable jsp-debugging?
    i thought i had already done so, here is my deployment descriptor:
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>
    <Context docBase="E:\development\tutorial\eclipse_3\eclipse\workspace\testproject2\testmodulezwei" path="/testmodule" reloadable="true" workDir="E:\development\tutorial\eclipse_3\eclipse\workspace\testproject2\j2src" debug="0"/>
    here is what i inserted into the web.xml (in the conf-directory):
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>jsp</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>classdebuginfo</param-name>
    <param-value>true</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>fork</param-name>
    <param-value>false</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>xpoweredBy</param-name>
    <param-value>false</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <load-on-startup>3</load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    any ideas / suggestions?.......i am out of ideas right now....
    thx in advance, timo

    If you're using a debugger in a JSP or servlet, I'd say you're really in trouble.
    I never use a debugger like that for servlets or JSPs. If I have problems I depend on the logger to help me out. Just log statements until you narrow the problem down.
    This might be "clumsy", but it works even in those cases where you don't have a debugger available (like on a client's installation site).
    If your servlet or JSP is doing so much stuff that you have to debug, I'd say they're both doing too much. JSPs are for display; servlets for control. Complex business logic belongs in POJOs that you can debug or EJBs.
    Maybe you should rethink your design.

  • JSP debugging plugin for eclipse 3.2

    Hi,
    I was looking for a plugin for eclipse 3.2 which can be used for JSP debugging purpose(not myeclipse).
    If any thing of such sort exists?

    Should be something like
    - extract the plugin into the plugins directory
    - restart eclipse
    - create a clean project (to prevent artefacts)
    - rightclick the project, select from the menu team->share project
    - choose the VSS option and point it to your VSS server
    - team->update
    - team -> check out on the file you need to change
    - team -> check in after modification

  • Can't get JSP debugging to work with WebLogic 6.0 and Eclipse 2.1.1

    Is native JSP debugging supported in WebLogic 6.0? If so, what are
              the steps involved in getting it to work? I'm in debug mode and my
              servlets will catch at my breakpoints but the JSP pages' breakpoints
              are ignored. I am using compliance level 1.3 and a JRE 1.3. I tried
              to start WebLogic with the 1.4.2 JRE but I get an exception error on
              the WLS JDK name" field. What am I missing here?
              Thanks!

    I appear to have solved it, but it is not clear to me why.
    I created a jar file of the required classes, and placed it in the same directory as the jsp file. My jsp code then looked like:
    <jsp:plugin type="applet" code="nz.astarte.ganttapplet.GanttApplet"
    codebase="."
    archive="GanttApplet.jar"
    jreversion="1.3.1"
    width="400" height="175">
    <jsp:fallback>
    Plugin support could not be determined
    </jsp:fallback>
    </jsp:plugin>
    This works fine. However I would expect to be able to move the jar file to some other directory, so that the jar file and jsp files are separated. I spent hours trying to work out why it wouldn't work when I had the jar
    file in WEB-INF/classes (under the jsp file directory) and had codebase="WEB-INF/classes/". In the end I put the jar file into a directory I defined separately called wotnot and defined codebase="wotnot/"
    Now it works. However I still think I should be able to have the jar file anywhere, including WEB-INF/classes and would love for someone to tell me why not!
    Thanks, Andrew

  • OC4J JSP Debugging not working for all the jsps

    Hi,
    Initially I was not able to debug jsps using Eclipse and OC4J. The jsp debugging started working once I made the below changes:
    1) global-web-application.xml is modified
    Changed the attribute development="true" in orion-web-app
    Added the below init param for the JspServlet
    <init-param>
    <param-name>debug</param-name>
    <param-value>class</param-value>
    </init-param>
    If the jsps are present in a sub directory under the webcontent none of the breakpoints are working. I am still be able to view the jsp pages on the browser.
    Tools: Oracle 10g Application Server Standalone version(10.1.3.5.0), JDK5, Windows XP, Eclipse Indigo
    Project Structure:
    Test (Eclipse Dynamic Web Project)

    Sample.jsp ( Breakpoints are working)
    -subF (Folder)
    SubSample.jsp (Breakpoints are not working)
    -WEB-INF
    web.xml
    Debugging worked for http://localhost:8888/Test/Sample.jsp
    Debugging not working for http://localhost:8888/Test/subF/SubSample.jsp
    Any help is highly appreciated.

    This tells there is not enough main memory (not disk space) for the program to run.
    - You can look the dump in ST22, it will have suggestions on increasing the ROLLAREA??, you can forward that to Basis.
    - Most likely you will not have any more memory to assign so the above may not be feasible. Try to rework your query so it works with less data.

  • Debugging using Eclipse and non-standalone 10g

    Hey - is it possible to perform remote debugging using Eclipse against the non-standalone version of the 10g App Server? I've tried some of the hints listed in this forum (the most promising seemed to be starting oc4j using this command-line command:
    java -classic -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=y,address=2727 -jar oc4j.jar, then connecting with the Eclipse debugger, which I managed to do - though I had to change one of the parameters because the designated file [a timezone file] could not be found - after the change things seemed to start up correctly. However, when I tried to hit http://localhost:2727 I got a "server not found or DNS error"). I don't know if the debugging works with the non-standalone version of 10g or not... or if I should be using some other startup command so hopefully y'all can help :)
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Scott, apparently you have fallen pray of one of the most common misunderstandings of oc4j. Oc4j, namely, Oracle Application Server Container for j2ee, is a COMPLETE j2ee server. It supports http and https by itself. It is also an ejb container and a lot more. It can be used as a standalone or, with a different configuration, integrated into Oracle Application Server as its core component.
    When you use the command "java -jar oc4j.jar ...", you are starting an instance of "standalone oc4j" or "oc4j standalone" as mentioned above, albeit from an OAS installation. In contrast, you can start one instance of Oracle Application Server by "<ORACLE_HOME>/opmn/bin/opmn startall", which will starts, besides several other components, one or several oc4j processes as its oc4j component. This OAS is an HTTP server that takes initial requests and routs the requests that are for OC4J to OC4J server. It may handle some of the requests by itself, or routs other http requests to other components, like mod_plsql. Finally, what we usually called "farm" is a collection of OAS clusters and instances that share the same OAS Infrastructure.
    What I have written is just a tiny mini introduction of the OAS. For starters, oc4j is for use by development and small-medium scale production deployments. Plese take a look at the book "Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE Standalone User's Guide" and then, "Oracle Application Server Concepts". You can find them by
    1. go to http://otn.oracle.com
    2. select "documentation" pull-down menu and then "application server"
    3. go to the first "view library" or the one suits you.
    4. view the "Oracle Application Server Concepts"
    5. or go to "List of All Books" and you will see all of them!
    Well, the best place to self-teach oc4j is, besides googling with site:oracle.com, the oc4j homepage,
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/oc4j/index.html
    The above is written in case you need more information. Now let me come to your specific questions.
    1. how to hit the OC4J instance directly, bypassing an HTTP server entry?Since what you started is an oc4j standalone, it does not make any sense to say "bypassing an HTTP server entry". Oc4j instance itself IS an http server. To access its http service, try
    http://<yourHostNameOrIP>:<httpPort>/<yourAppWebContextRoot>
    where the httpPort and yourAppWebContextRoot can be found in default-web-site.xml or http-web-site.xml. Which one or other web-site.xmls are effective is determined in <OC4J_HOME>/config/server.xml. Here the OC4J_HOME refers to your "C:/OraHome1/j2ee/home".
    2. how to get the HTTP server started via the command-line startup?As said above, you already got an HTTP server running.
    What I suggest for you is to play with oc4j standalone. You can come to OAS later:
    1. download oc4j standalone distribution, "Oracle Containers for J2EE 10g (10.1.3) Developer Preview 3", from here "http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/preview.html"
    2. unzip the downloaded file. What you get is basically the same to a part of your existing "C:/OraHome". Go to j2ee/home. Run
    java -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=none -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=y,address=3301 -jar oc4j.jar
    Make sure you are using java 1.4.2 sdk.
    3. "new" your remote debugger from Eclicpse and specify the hostname and port 3301.
    4. http://<yourHost>:8888/
    A further note: to debug jsp's, you can use Jdeveloper that allows you to set debug points directly in a jsp that is running in its embeded oc4j server.

  • JSP Debugging

    Hi,
    I just downloaded the free Workshop for JSP. I installed it as a plugin into my current Eclipse 3.2 installation.
    Everything seems to work great. I can create a new web project and design JSPs using the jsp workshop editor with wysiwyg.
    My problem is that I can't debug my JSPs like I am supposed to be able to do with Workshop for JSP. I am able to set breakpoints in my jsp code, but it never stops at those breakpoints. However, I can debug my java classes without any problem, the debugger will stop in the classes, but not in the jsp.
    I'm running Weblogic 8.1 SP5 in standalone (not inside IDE) and I'm using remote debugging (socket attach) to attach the eclipse debugger to my wls. This setup works great with java classes, but I can't get it to stop into my jsp code. I tried several things, but I can't figure it out.
    As I said, my setup is quite simple:
    -Eclipse 3.2
    -Installed Workshop for jsp as a plugin
    -Running WLS 8.1 SP5 standalone with debug enabled
    -Created a very simple Dynamic web project with a simple jsp and a java class
    -Exported the project as a war file
    -Manually deployed the war file into standalone wls
    -Socket attach eclipse debugger to wls
    -Place breakpoints in jsp code and java class
    -Launch my jsp page in Internet Explorer
    -Will stop in java class but never in jsp code :(
    I tried using a normal domain and a workshop domain in wls, but neither worked. I also tried adding the following to the weblogic.xml of the war:
    <jsp-descriptor>
    <jsp-param>
    <param-name>compileFlags</param-name>
    <param-value>-g</param-value>
    </jsp-param>
    <jsp-param>
    <param-name>keepgenerated</param-name>
    <param-value>true</param-value>
    </jsp-param>
    </jsp-descriptor>
    but it didnt change anything.
    Right now, after a few hours of trying, I'm a bit lost and I dont have any ideas left, but I'd really like to get this jsp debugging thing working, so if anyone can help me out with this, any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mat

    Hi,
    Its been a few days now and nobody helped me solve this problem. Does this mean I am the only one with this particular problem?
    My setup it quite simple and what I am trying to do is really straight forward, I just cant believe noone can help me out here. There must be something I am missing.
    Please, I really need this thing to work.
    Thanks again

  • Eclipse-Wtp/Subversion --- jDev 10.1.32

    First, congrats on a useful ide. (Has come a long way since ver 9.)
    Coming from Eclipse/wtp/jboss, I want to migrate a j2ee workspace that has projects:
    1. LIBS (a jar file used by both, web/war and ejb projects).
    2. EJB's (a j2ee ejb jar file using session, mdb's, and cmp2.1 entitys.)
    3. WEB (a war file with html's & servlets that call methods in the session beans.)
    The good news is that all the code is in a subversion repos and that I can access it from the jDev plugin. But I need some specific 'handholding' please.
    A. In Eclipse I have an option to start a new project from a project in the repos. (Check out as new project.) How do I accomplish this in jDev?
    B. I would like to deploy these to oc4j. Will jDev generate oc4j dd's based on the jboss and j2ee dd's?
    B1. Message ques need to be created in oc4j AND assigned to mdb's via jndi.
    B2. JNDI calls in general, used thruout the code, should be oc4j compatible.
    The ideal scenario, of course would be that I simply import the projects, press a button, and all deploys and runs(!) on oc4j. The question is, how close can I get to this?
    Thank you.
    nat

    Try to first create a project in JDeveloper and then while in it check-out the code from subversion into its directory.
    You'll then need to go into project properties->project content and also the sub nodes there to set the various directories that are used for you web app and ejb app.
    One other way that might be easier is if you have a WAR file - then you can do create project from WAR file.
    For the libs directory you might want to go into project properties->libraries and create a new library with all your jar files.
    JDeveloper can help you create OC4J specific deployment descriptors through code insight in the editor but it doesn't have a "convert from jboss" button.
    Also note that the embedded OC4J in JDev can run entity and session beans but not mdb. You'll need a stand alone OC4J to run those on. You can deploy from JDeveloper to that OC4J directly and you can also set remote debugging for it.

  • Eclipse WTP + JWSDP + Tomcat

    Hi,
    I am trying to setup eclipse WTP with Java WSDP (1.6) and Tomcat for JWSDP
    (http://java.sun.com/webservices/containers/tomcat_for_JWSDP_1_5.html)
    Any idea whether it is possible to have such development environment or
    would I have to use Netbeans?
    Wouldn't I require a server runtime for (J)WSDP instead of Tomcat's deault
    Axis runtime? Is there such a runtime available?
    Thanks!

    I guess you could say that using Tomcat+WSDP in WTP would "work", but
    not with the same level of integration that you get using the WTP
    supplied Axis. I'm not familiar with JSDP, but I don't think WTP would
    get in the way. However, I can't say if it will provide as much
    "developmental help" as you are looking for.

  • Hot swap and JSP debugging for Weblogic in exploded format?

    Hi,
    I'm trying to use JDeveloper for JSF development to be deployed to a weblogic server.
    I must say JDeveloper is a great tool for JSF development as none of the free IDE in the market can do what JDeveloper does.
    However, I have a question on hot swap and JSP debugging.
    I have managed to setup JDeveloper to debug my JSF application deploy to my Weblogic server's applications folder in exploded format.
    I can step through the java code.
    However, I didn't manage to do a hot swap and the break point set in the JSF-JSP does not seems to take effect.
    I would appreciate any advice on the problem.
    Thanks.
    Han Ming

    How did you setup the server to handle exploded format? Appreciate the help. Sorry can't help with your question though.
    Thnx.

    On New Project creation, choose 'Dynamic Web Project'. Then the structure will be created for you.

  • Remote Debugging w/Eclipse Transport Error

    I am requesting help on a problem I am encountering using remote debugging with eclipse and Weblogic 8.1.2. I have successfully used remote debugging in the past with other application servers, but I have been unsuccessful with Weblogic 8.1.
    I have set the remote debugging options both on the weblogic start script as well as configured eclipse to connect to the port that was defined in the startup script (See Below). When I start the remote debugger within eclipse and it seems to connect properly. Once I set a break point or remove a break point, weblogic generates a "Transport error, error code = -1" and stops the debugger with in Eclipse.
    At this point I am at a loss of what is causing this error. I would appreciate any help on this issue.

    Interesting. I tried it and it works. you might want to check your Eclipse port number. In addition try netstat -a to see if port 1044 is active.

    Hi
    The pdf file only mentioned 4 ways to do that but didn't include the details on how to do it. Appreciate if you could you tell me more precisely on how to do it with OAS?
