Including some tag lib

hi every body,
am trying to include some tag library in my project
but the problem is that the only way all document mention about that is to include the following code at top of the jsp page:
<%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/treetag.tld" prefix="tree" %>
however this syntax is not acceptable in the sun creator
and i even tried the folloing tag in the jsp:root tag
but it didnt work as well

Did you try using an absolute like "http://java.sun.com/jsf/core". That should work as far as I know.

Jsp:include does not work in 8.1 SP3?

Hi all,
          I need to include a local file (external to the app) in jsp code. The external file includes an image map which changes very so often. So in order to avoid doing a build everytime, I thought about keeping the image map in a file which can be "included" in the jsp file, making it very dynamic to a change.
          So I have a servlet which will read this file and output the contents to response.getWriter(), which will be included in calling jsp code.
          But the jsp file does not seem to call the servlet at all.
          Here is the code in the jsp file:

          What am I doing wrong? Is this not possible at all?

          I think it might be syntax error in your jsp page.
          This is the syntax to including dynamic files in jsp using <jsp:include page="" />tag as given below.

Calling custom tags in jsp with jsp:include

Hi,
I have a large jsp file , which uses jstl fmt tags for labels.
Since the size of jsp was too big iand i was unable to compile it because of 64 kb class size limit,
I removed the tag lib defination from the jsp file and put it in another jsp file. and used jsp:include to include this file inside the first jsp.
It is compiling successfully but labels r not showing up.
but when i use <%@include to include second jsp in the first one i get the labels properly.
I cannot use <%@include as this starts giving me compilation error related with jsp class file size beyond 64 kb.
Pls suggest why jsp:include is not working.

What you have to do is this:
- Include the jar file in the WEB-INF/lib
- Include the tld file in a directory under WEB-INF, for example tlds
- Create a mapping in the deployment descriptor (web.xml), to make the taglib available, something like this:

<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/tlds/io.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
Then in the jsp, you have to invoke it like this:

OC4J 10.1.3 does support JSP 2.0, as well as custom tag libraries (including JSTL 1.1).
There are two approaches to configuring a custom tag library for use in JSPs served by OC4J:
1) Package the JSTL or custom tag library with your application:
i. include the necessary JAR file in your web app's /WEB-INF/lib folder
ii. include the relevant Tag Library Descriptor (TLD) file(s) in your web app's /WEB-INF folder
iii. for each TLD, add a <tag-lib> element to web.xml referencing the TLD file's location and taglib URI
2) Place the JSTL or custom tag library in an Application Server instance-level directory ($ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/jsp/lib/taglib) to make them available to multiple applications (in all OC4Js installed in the Oracle Home)
For example, if you'd like to use the JSTL 1.1 Core and Internationalization Tag Libraries, do one of the following:
1) Package the JSTL or custom tag library with your application:
i. Obtain an implementation of JSTL (e.g. Jakarta Taglibs) and include the standard.jar and jstl.jar files in your web module's /WEB-INF/lib directory
ii. From the JSTL implementation you're using, also copy the c.tld and fmt.tld Tag Library Descriptors to your web module's /WEB-INF/lib directory

Jsp:include... tags not being parsed

We currently have a customer using one of our products with WebLogic 8.1. This product is deployed via a war file and when accessing the application, nothing included via a jsp:include shows up. When viewing the source output via a browser the <jsp:include... tags exist in the actual HTML. It is aparent they have never been parsed. Other jsp tags appear to be working though.
          The application works fine on Oracle 9iAS, Tomcat 4.x and 5.x and I believe there are several users with IBM Web Sphere using it with no problems. This is the first customer using this particular server and the first time with this behavior. Any ideas as to what the problem may be? I have downloaded and installed WebLogic 8.1 and can reproduce the error at will.

I am trying to customize mastheaderpar file. For that I have downloaded relevant par file and making the changes accordingly.
As part of the changes I would require to use JSP custom tag library in my par file.
I have the TLD file and relevant classes in the jar file. I would like to know where and what kind of modifications have to be done to use the jsp custom tag library.
I tried modifying some things in portalapp.xml but was not successful.
Please help me on how to proceed with this? It would be great if you can provide the xml entry to use this tag library

Thanks for the reply. Actually I am able to change colors etc. with out any problem.
My requirement is to use XMLTaglib in mastheader par file. This tag lib is from apache tomcat. I have the relevant TLD and class files. I copied TLD file into taglib dir of portal-inf and class file in src api.
And I have added the following line in portalapp.xml under component-profile section of default
<property name="tlxtag" value="/SERVICE/Newmastheader/taglib/taglibs-xtags.tld">
Is this the right way to use tag lib? Actually before adding this line I used to get the error saying "Error parsing taglib", but now the error does not occur and I am getting new error. This is an exception in one of the taglib classes.
Could any one provide me some inputs on how to check this error?

          I have a problem using <jsp:include> from inside a custom tag. Exception is:
          "java.lang.ClassCastException: weblogic.servlet.jsp.BodyContentImpl"
          Apparently, weblogic tries to cast BodyContentImpl to JspWriterImpl and
          could not do this. Is it a bug, since in the 1.1 spec is said: "The
          BodyContent is a subclass of JspWriter that can be used to process body
          evaluations so they can retrieved later on."
          My code is:

This is an area of contention with WL. It is not so tolerant with regards to
          the spec. I spent several days recently trying to convince it to accept the
          specification in regards to bodies and includes and it appears to have
          successfully rebuffed my efforts.
          Frankly, this is very disappointing. It appears that some shortcuts were
          taken on the way to JSP 1.1 support, and the result is a very hard-coded,
          inflexible implementation. As I have not seen the implementation myself, I
          hate to assume this, however one could posit that the term "interface" was a
          foreign concept during the implementation, other than as some annoying
          intermediary reference requiring an immediate cast to a specific Weblogic
          class, which in turn is apparently required to be final or have many final
          methods, as if being optimized for a JDK 1.02 JIT.
          I am sorry that I don't have any positive suggestions other than to use a
          URL object to come back in an execute the necessary "include" directly. You
          lose all context (other than session) and that can cause its own problems.
          However, you can generally get the URL approach to work, and you will
          hopefully avoid further frustration.

Problem with flush=true in the jsp:include tag

I have deployed a JSP based application , based on the apache struts framework. The web server is Sun One Webserver 6 Service Pack4, on a windows 2000 machine
The same application was tried on SunONE application server 7, and it works without any problem. However in this case the following error , on the page
javax:servlet.jspexception:Illegal to flush within a custom tag
Does this mean flush="true" is not allowed within custom tags
Or is there a workaround for this
Any help is appreciated

Hi,
This is a known problem, ��flush before you include�� limitation in JSP 1.1.
As a result, you have to state flush="true" every time you include a jsp using <jsp:include> tag if you are using JSP1.1.
Fortunately, it is fixed in JSP1.2. The flush attribute controls flushing. If true, then, if the page output is buffered and the flush attribute is given a ��true�� value, then the buffer is flushed prior to the inclusion, otherwise the buffer is not flushed. The default value for the flush attribute is ��false��.

[JSP/Newbie]: howto write my own jsp:include tag?

I'm trying to write a replacement tag for <jsp:include> (which shall later decide upon its context what to include..), i.e. I want to include another JSP from within a tag.
Unfortunately right now my best bet does not allow to control the position of the included JSPs output in my output stream - it prints directly :-((

          When I invoke caller.jsp from browser, I do get the output(body of the
          email) on the browser screen, but not the output is not send as the body of
          the email.
          When I use static include namely, <@include file="emailbody.jsp" />, the
          output is directed to the body of the email.
          The above means, for a static jsp include file, it is parsed and included in
          the body-evaluation of the custom tag.
          For a dynamic include file, it is NOT parsed and NOT included in the
          body-evaluation of the custome tag.
          The reason could be, How Weblogic loads classes for custom-tag for dynamic
          include files.
          Can anybody at BEA throw loght on this and the solution.

Well I found out jsp:include is not supported inside custom tags for JSP
          spec 1.1.
          This was stated in section 5.4.5 of spec 1.1.
          May be in future spec 1.2.

Scriptlet within a jsp:include tag

In Jrun 2.3.3 you could include a scriptlet within a <jsp:include> tag like this:

<jsp:include page="/Conditions<%= language %>.html"/>
Since I have to programme for four languages on our site, I used this convenient way of including different language pages on the fly all over the site.
I then had a problem with 2.3.3 so I got 2.3.8 and discovered that all of these jsp:includes with scriptlets didn't work any more.
I hastily uninstalled 2.3.8 and have continued with 2.3.3 ever since, thinking that they would sort this out in 3.0., which they didn't.
Presumably to deal with this when I want to upgrade JRun I will have to use a load of if{} statements instead, but for four languages I will need four if {} statements which is incredibly long-winded compared to the single line of code above.

I could be wrong, but at least with WSAD (WebSphere), I couldn't do this:
<html:text maxlength="14" size="10" property="proofOfClaim[<%=memberAccountIndex%>].sentDate%>"/>
but could do this:
<% String property = "proofOfClaim[" + memberAccountIndex +"].sentDate"; %>
<html:text maxlength="14" size="10" property="<%=property%>%>"/>
I think the reason is that since <html:text> is a custom tag, any scriptlets <%=...%> must be the ENTIRE value, and not be inserted in the middle of a value, for an attribute. Try it out. :)
