(JSP/SERVLET) File upload Character problem form enctype="multipart.....

Hi,
When i upload a file from <form> ( jsp page ) and send it to my object class(struts,servlet) , the filename .doc are replaced by ?????.doc. in the database.
I make few test by adding UTF-8 charset and content type to the jsp but still doesn't work...
Ex :
String encod = request.getCharacterEncoding();
if (encod == null || !encod.equals("UTF-8"))
try
request.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8");
catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e)
System.err.println("HttpMultipartRequest - : " + e);
It's not a charset problem in the database because i try to do with an input type="text" and its working. It's just not working with the input type="file".
And i also add directly character into the database and its working.
it's will be a pleasure if someone could response to me .
thanks
Jonathan

warnerja,
Not sure why you always play the part of the
cross-post police... Seems like waste of effort to
me.To each his own. I'm not sure why you feel the need
to question my motives. Also not sure why you have
posted requests to Sun regarding forum features...
"Seems like a waste of effort to me.". But I wasn't
going to call you on it.touch

    Hi, I am using HP11 and iPlanet web server. When trying to upload files over HTTP using FORM ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data" that are bigger than a few Kilobytes i get a 408 error. (client timeout). It is as if the server has decided that the client has timed out during the file upload. The default setting is 30 seconds for AcceptTimeout in the magnus.conf file. This should be ample to get the file across, even increasing this to 2 minutes just produces the same error after 2 minutes. Any help appreciated. Apologies if this is not the correct forum for this, I couldn't see one for iPlanet and Web, many thanks, Kieran.

    Hi,
    You didnt mention which version of IWS. follow these steps.
    (1)Goto Web Server Administration Server, select the server you want to manage.
    (2)Select Preference >> Perfomance Tuning.
    (3)set HTTP Persistent Connection Timeout to your choice (eg 180 sec for three minutes)
    (4) Apply changes and restart the server.
    *Setting the timeout to a lower value, however, may    prevent the transfer of large files as timeout does not refer to the time that the connection has been idle. For example, if you are using a 2400 baud modem, and the request timeout is set to 180 seconds, then the maximum file size that can be transferred before   the connection is closed is 432000 bits (2400 multiplied by 180)

  • File Upload in a Form

    I have a file upload in a form of mine.
    I can't style the upload to match the rest of my form. I have tried to target the id="FileAttachment" to no avail. I have tried adding classes and nothing responds.
    In Dreamweaver it shows as styled until it gets on the web.
    Here is the site: http://ubhape2remodel.businesscatalyst.com/careers
    Any Advice?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the information.
    I cannot get it to work and I am unsure why.  I am not sure if I am not using the JS right or not adding something to the css. I am a bit confused.
    I am not all that good at javascript so I assume something here is off and I am just missing it.
    One other note: Is it possible to use my style of buttons and not an image (I would like the hover effect that I use on the buttons to apply to that one as well.) But not sure how this can be done or if it is possible.
    Any help would be very very much appreciated.

  • JSP : latest  JSTL, File Upload from web form Client to Server Question!

    I understand that within a JSP, It is possible to read a file from the Client by opening a Stream somehow.
    How do I code, within jsp/servlet (non tag) java code inside <% %>
    blocks, WITHOUT openening a new connection to the URL, an InputStream from a client web browser form, from a file upload coded using
    <input type="file" name="file1"/> ?
    I have previously achieved this quite simply with a FileInputStream
    with the previous version of JSTL.
    How may I do this with the latest version of JSTL, with this index.jsp?
    -with a simple text file.
    -with a Binary file (with DataInputStream)?

    I can use:

    BufferedReader bufferedReader = new BufferedReader(reader);
    bufferedReader.readLine();...
    However, these is some HTML/POST related content around what multiple readLine();
    calls return.
    Is there an easy way, like using "${param.file1}",
    aside from [http://commons.apache.org/fileupload/|http://commons.apache.org/fileupload/],
    maybe using servlet style code, to get the File contents from a remote Client,
    to the remote Server servlet engine, AVOIDING ANY SUPERFLUOUS CONTENT,
    using version 1.12 of the JSTL, JSP 2.0,Tomcat 6?
    Just politely, yes, no, and how?

  • Jsp / Servlet / bean / upload

    Hello,
    I use a jsp to enter several fields. These fields are sent to a servlet by using a bean (recorded in the current session). Until now there is no problem. The servlet receives all information. Now I must also send 5 files which must be stored on the server. I have thus to add in my jsp 5 file fields.
    My question :
    Is it possible to integrate the FileUpload package for uploader my files without anything to change in my code (by using of a bean to exchange the data between my jsp and my servlet). ??
    In other words, it is possible to use my bean to also transport files. ??
    Tank u for u help

    Yes it is possible..
    download cos.jar from www.oreily.com for file upload..
    it will read dat from the form as two parts ..
    parameter part and file part..
    and you can implement it throgh a servlet easily..
    for more follow oreily JSP/servlets Cookbook

  • Difficulties in creating a JSP for File upload

    hello out there,
    im trying to create a ProcessUpload.jsp File which should handle a file upload from a channel in the portal. regarding a previously posted thread acording to fileupload i deployed this jsp-file in the regular webServerHierarchy so that you dont have to go into the desktopServlet Portal, which cant handle fileUpload.
    its location is this ../portal/test/ProcessUpload.jsp and it uses CustomTags referecens from /portal/WEB-INF/test.tld. i customized the deployment descriptor in /portal/WEB-INF/web.xml as well. but as soon as i try to put a taglib which uses this custom tags the server responses with an error.
    does anybody know how to deploy a global jsp file to handle file uploads, or something in particular how to deploy jsp with custom tags outside the desktopservlet but inside the portal webapp??
    i would be really thankful ;-)
    best regards
    martin

    hi alex,
    i allready tried to realize a channel with file upload download. channels are made up of jsp pages and when i am forwarding my form with enctype="multipart/form-data" encoding the desktop-servlet intercpets my entity-body.
    so what kind of channel you have thought about ??
    thanks for reply ;-)

  • File Upload demo problem

    Hi!, i have a problem with the File Upload Demo when it calls this line:
    hDirectoryObject := JFile.new(directory);
    and the error is: error 6508 "PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called"
    That's ok, but anybody knows why should the program couldnt find the routine ?
    And just one more thing...where can i look for JFile method description ??
    Thanks a lot :) !!
    Cristian.

    Is this 9i or 6i?
    JFile is an imported wrapper for a Java Class - it should be in the Demo form already - you could try a compile all on the file just in case.

  • File Upload/Character conversion

    Hi,
    I have a Servlet which processes a File Upload. The uploaded file is accessable via an
    InputStream. Now, if the file contains any non-ASCII character (e.g. German Umlaute)
    these characters are messed up.
    I've been digging on Google to find a way to convert the characters provided by an
    InputStream. The solution I have in mind would take the InputStream which I already
    have and provide a different InputStream which hast the converted characters. How could
    I implement such a solution? What is the recommended way to perform such a conversion.
    Many thannks in advance,
    Meme

    When converting a binary stream to a character stream (using InputStreamReader and so on), you should be specifying the correct charset. With the charset the code knows how to translate the bytes into the correct chars. Otherwise the system's default charset will be used. In Windows systems it is generally cp-1252. The InputStreamReader provides this option in the constructor. You should specify the same charset as the file is encoded in. Try it with UTF-8.

  • File upload in dynamic form

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to create a dynamic form. the input fields for the form come from a database query, and i will be getting back results like:
    input field name data type
    field1 text
    field2 select
    field3 attachment
    I am facing an issue with the attachment type of fields.
    i have tried creating my dynamic form using two different approaches -
    1. use the APEX_ITEM apis
    2. use htp.p to just output html from a pl/sql anonymous block.
    in both the cases, we do not have options to create a file input, not atleast directly.
    Can some one guide me on any existing solutions or approaches to this problem ?
    Note: i would prefer a solution based on the 2nd approach (using htp.p) since it gives me more flexibility with the other handlings.
    APEX_UTIL also doesn't have open APIs for file create, and i also found the radiogroup API not very friendly (did nt get it to work since i moved on to the other approach)
    Regards,

    Hi, if you want to submit your files, you will need hidden file upload objects in your page. One for each files, so you need to set a limit because you won't be able to submit hundreds of files anyway. Lets say between 5 to 10. Each hidden file upload will have one computation to put the data that will be sent to the server.
    iBEGIN
    IF wwv_flow.g_f01.COUNT > 0
    THEN
    RETURN wwv_flow.g_f01 (1);
    ELSE
    RETURN NULL;
    END IF;
    END;
    Then the only other things you need is an acceptation branching.
    You don't need a process to send those files. When your reload your page, a process should remove the file from APEX_APPLICATION_FILES table to your target table.
    It's Denes Kubicek's solution ! I suggest you to visit his demo website !

  • File Upload element Problem

    Hello All,
    We have a problem regarding the File Upload button in Webdynpro.
    when we upload a file using this element and goto another view and comeback, the upload element is not showing any filename.
    But when debugged, the fileupload context node still has the data. Just it is not showing in the UI.
    Is it an existing problem with File Upload? Or do we have to do anything to make the filename visible.
    Thanks,
    Anand

  • How to 'clear' file upload field in forms

    In a form I am designing I need a 'clear' or 'reset' button that clears the entire form. This is easy to do, of course, but alas my form has a file upload field, and in Safari I just can't get that field to go back to it's default empty state.
    is there a secret way to force file upload fields in safari to reset, or is it just impossible?

    I've just done a quick search on bugzilla and came up with this http://bugzilla.opendarwin.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8248.

  • How do I add a file upload to my form?

    I need to be able to collect multiple files from a web form in order to keep them together.

    Hi DonPhilyaw,
    You can add a attach a file button in your form and you can get all the attachments at one place.

  • H:form enctype="multipart/form-data" gets removed

    I tried to create a file upload page using tomahawk 1.1.6, JSF RI 1.2_05-b06-FCS and facelets.
    What I found is that the h:form removes the enctype="multipart/form-data" when rendering the JSF page.
    In the resulting html page the enctype is entirely missing.
    As a result the fileupload doesn't work, since the browser doesn't even send the file.
    I read that JSF doesn't support multipart messages, but with this behaviour it prevents other libs like tomahawk accomplishing this task. Does anyone know whether there a way to solve this issue other then patching the FormRenderer?
    regards,
    Artur
