jsp:useBean... didn't create new bean?

According to tutorial or specification (in my perception),
the following tag will create a new bean if it doesn't
exist:
    <jsp:useBean id="prodDetail"
        class="mycomp.model.ProductDetail"
        scope="request" />Say I put the tag in Product.jsp, and it is an entry form
for insert and update a new product. For insert, I intend
to access Product.jsp directly from browser. For update,
I have clients to access a servlet that in turn, will
dispatch {[Product.jsp + prodDetail to be updated)}.
There was no problem with update, however, for insert
(directly access Product.jsp via url), I got this exception.
I am using Tomcat, and I wonder whether it's a "Java error"
or "Tomcat error".
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

  • Updating / Creating new Beans

    Whenever I update or create a new bean, I can't seem to read anything from the bean, although it seems to have no problem recognizing that the bean is there.
    All my old beans work just fine, but whenever I make a change to one or add one, I can't use it. All my fields retrieve as "" (strings).
    I'm running tomcat, and my beans have all been properly compiled and put in WEB-INF\classes\packagename
    Thanks,
    --k

    They are identical to any other variable in the bean, just renamed obviously.
    In JSP page:
    <jsp:useBean id="sLibBean" class="releaseFormBeans.subLibBeanRDATE" scope="session"/>
    Bean:
    For:
    package releaseFormBeans;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.text.*;
    public class starTeamBuildBeanRDATE
    These were added:
         String paramRdate = "";
         String paramRtime = "";
         String paramRzone = "";
    added to bean with get/set methods added as well.
    thanks,

  • More Efficient to Create New Bean or Use Existing Ones

    I have two beans, lets say HomeBean and OfficeBean which are related to each other by a user_id which comes from a database.
    When users do a search for something I want only parts from each bean like HomeBean.city and OfficeBean.city and a few other fields from each.
    I'm wondering if it is more effiecient to create a new bean, such as SearchResultBean which contains only the information that I need, or is it better to use the beans I already have? I'm pretty sure the J2EE blueprints would not agree with me making new beans, but I don't want to load all that extra information from the database when I'm not going to show it to the user.
    Thanks in advance!

    So far I can only find this article from JAVAWORLD and it's not really geared towards my question.
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-11-1999/jw-11-cleanbeans.html
    Otherwise I'm not sure what to do, create a SearchResultBean that would contain only the data I need to return to the user after their search, or use the entire beans of which I only need less than half their information.

  • Jsp:useBean : Missing value of String classed bean with 'session' scope

    Hi!
    I'd like to ask some help.
    I have these two JSP pages:
    1.jsp<jsp:useBean id="str" class="java.lang.String" scope="session"/>
    <html>
    <body>
    <% str="hello"; %>
    <a href="2.jsp">click</a>
    </body>
    </html>
    2.jsp<jsp:useBean id="str" class="java.lang.String" scope="session"/>
    <html>
    <body>
    <%=str%>
    </body>
    </html>When I open 1.jsp in my browser, then click on the link, the result is "nothing" (empty string). Why does the bean lose its value on the way?
    I use a Tomcat 5.5.9 server.
    Any help will be highly appreciated.

    You have to think of several scopes when working with JSP. The first is the local scope: the method _jspService() where all the work of the JSP is done.  This acts as a normal method and is where all the sciptlet code goes.
    When you use jsp:useBean you are creating two references to a new String object. One in the local scope accessible through <%= str %> and the other in the session scope.
    When you do <% str = "hello"; %> you are changing the local str variable to reference the String "hello" (this is equivalant to doing <% str = new String("hello"); %>). Only the local reference is changed, not the second reference in session.
    If you want the change to take affect, then you will have to store the new value in session with the same name:
    <% session.setAttribute("str", str); %>

  • How use bean of array with tag "jsp:useBean"??

    hi,all
    a bean of array put request with a servlet and forward a jsp page,this jsp use "jsp:useBean" of tag get the bean of array.
    how do for jsp:useBean of tag??
    thx.....

    You can't use an array directly in a jsppage. first u have to write the line <useBean /> through which you can access youtr class
    <jsp:useBean id="email" class="Pack.Email" scope="session" />
    after writing this line you have your class in your hand, you can think of "email" as it is a class object of Email class which is a Bean...
    declare a private array in the Bean and then made method getArray() which will return an array ... then you can use your array in jsp....
    an example of using a class variable in JSp is given below
    public String[] getArray() // note method must be public
    return array;
    now in your jsp page you have to use that class with
    <jsp:useBean id="email" class="Pack.Email" scope="session" />
    and cnow you can use array like this....
    <%
    String[] array=email.getArray();
    for (int i=0; i< array.length;i++ )
    out.println(array]);
    %>
    Does it solve your problem now ?

  • Which one better to use - jsp:useBean or import statement

    Hi,
    I just want to know that which one is better to use jsp:useBean or import statement .
    I can instantiate and call method of myclass -
    1) by importing the class through import tag in jsp as <%@page import="myclass"%. or
    2). by using <jsp:useBean tag....
    i have these two option to do the same thing. i know that basically useBean is used to call setter and getter method of bean class and but it can be used to call a normal java file that have some logic .
    so what should i used , which one is better and why?
    useBean provides scope and object instance so no need to create object by new operator. and with import you have to create an instance .
    but which tag should i use in my jsp?
    i am confused???

    ok, means i can use jsp:useBean tag for all my
    classes that are not actually bean. so it will be
    instantiated at run time and provide efficiency .No. Jsp:useBean is used for java bean components.
    >
    but when should i use import statement in my jsp and
    it happen at translation time so will it create any
    type of burden for my code if i import multiple
    classes.For non-java beans, you need to import the classes, period.
    It's not a burden, it's a necessity.

  • Javabean-Installation for jsp:usebean

              Hi!
              I have made a simple JavaBean. I wont use it with
              <jsp:usebean> but i get:
              /index.jsp(6): class 'myBean' could not be loaded
              probably occurred due to an error in /index.jsp line 6:
              <jsp:useBean id="my" class="klaus"/>
              how must i install me Bean (not an EJB)
              thanks Klaus

    1. Did you weid your weblogic.properties file as:
              weblogic.httpd.webApp.<AppNameHere>=<AbsolutePath>
              2. Do you have the proper directory structure?
              If you set the <AbsolutePath> above to C:\Temp, you'll need the following:
              C:\Temp\WEB-INF\classes
              You'll also need to import the bean in the code, in addition to the
              jsp:usebean tag.
              If the bean uses a package, (eg com.company), you'll also need
              C:\Temp\WEB-INF\classes\com\company
              Your .jar/.class files go in the one of the directories above, depending how
              the bean was written. The <Whatever.jsp> file would go in C:\Temp in the
              above example.
              3. Make sure the <AbsolutePath> is in your weblogic class path.
              4. Access the bean http://<server>/<AppNameHere>/<Whatever.jsp>

    1) Search panel textinput item should be search allowed true and prompt is need. no other property need to set.
    HERE YOU DONT WANT TO SET VIEW INSTANCE AND ATTRIBUTE SINCE WE ARE DOING FOR EXTENDED VO ITEM AS SEARCH ITEM.THAT'S OK. I TRIED WITH YOUR COMMENTS FOR TEXTINPUT ITEM TOO.
    Comment--
    textinput item created is a simple item without any VO instance , etc.
    There is no question of extended VO item, its a simple textinput item.
    value in this field is going to compare with the values in result table.
    2) Search mapping, only search item id and result item id need to set.
    I'M DOING HERE MAPPING FOR ABOVE SEARCH ITEM ID AND RESULT ITEM ID
    Comment-- Perfect !!
    3) Item created in table , after you extended Vo, view instance and attribute needs to set.
    WHERE DO YOU WANT THIS TO BE SET?? CAN YOU ELABORATE THIS MORE PLEASE.MAY BE I'M MISSING HERE SOMETHING.
    Comment-- you must have created message styled text item in adv table bean, assign VO instance and attribute to it, right?
    4) One more thing Parag, do i need to include where clause for extended VO item in view object??
    for ex:
    where attribute(this is extended vo item)=:4
    Comment-- No need. this will be handled by point#2 above, i.e. criteria and result items.

    Actually I want to create new records with different long text and short text in different languages so in case object id and object type even the dates can be same but the language would be different.
    So I need to create a new records with a different language key and different short text. But this function module is changing the existing object short text,long text and language.
    Could you please reply at the earliest.

    you're right, this function didn't create new record when i want to create a record with same object but have different language.
    you can use  this function for your problem :  RH_INSERT_INFTY_DIRECT

  • Jsp:useBean and assigning a value to that bean

    Hello,
    I have a type called Country and I have declared a bean using the "jsp:useBean" syntax.
    I then try to assign a value to that bean in a scriptlet. Eventually I try to retrieve the values using "jsp:getProperty". The problem is that it appears to null.
    Here is the code of the jsp

    <%@ page import="com.parispano.latinamericaguide.*" %>
    <%
    /* We retrieve the Countries object from the servlet context. */
    ServletContext sc = getServletContext();
    Countries cs = (Countries)sc.getAttribute("countries");
    %>
    <jsp:useBean id="country" class="com.parispano.latinamericaguide.Country"/>

    I have added scope="application". It still show "null" indicating that the bean is not initialized with the properties. I would like a quicker way to initialize a bean property than invoking the setProperty tag for each property.
    Here is a simple example that demonstrates the problem:
    <%@ page language="java" %>
    <%@ page import="com.tests.*" %>
    <jsp:useBean id="monBean" class="com.tests.MonBean" scope="application"/>
    <%
    MonBean mb = new MonBean();
    mb.setName("toto");
    monBean= mb;
    %>
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Lomboz JSP</title>
    </head>
    <body bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
    <jsp:getProperty name="monBean" property="name"/>
    </body>
    </html>And the bean
    package com.tests;
    public class MonBean {
    private String name;
    public String getName() {
         return name;
    public void setName(String name) {
         this.name = name;
    }This show "null".
    Any other idea why this is not working?
    Thanks,

  • Jsp:usebean How to get value of an object from a bean

    I am new to JSP and am struggling from past few days to solve a problem. Consider the below scenario
    Class Book{
    private String author;
    public void setAuthor(String author)
    public String getAuthor(){
    return author; }
    Class Rack{
    private Book []books;
    public []Book getbooks()
    return books;
    public void setbooks([]Book val){....}
    Suppose Books gets populated only using Rack and I have Rack populate in my session, using jsp:usebean or any other tag how can I get value of author? Does using tag handle null value check of books, if books are not set by any chance?
    Regards,
    Dhyan

    I got a way out to access the attribute, i feel it is
    <jsp:usebean id="myRack" class="settings.Rack"/>
    <c:foreach var="book" item="myRack.books">
    </c:foreach>
    I am not able to check if this is correct or not because myRack.books is not having any value set by me in the request scope. How do i get instance of Rack class set by another page in the current request? I can get the value if i use scriptlet but i dont want to use scriptlet.
    I am continiously trying, if I get an answer, I shall post, else pls somebody guide.

  • CMP Beans from Tables: Why does the Container try to create new tables?

    I'm trying to develop an EJB application using JDeveloper on 9iAS. I have several CMPs and have my tables that I want my CMPs to be based on already defined in my DB schema. I want to use CMP but I don't want the Container to create the tables, rather I want the Container to map my CMP EJBs to the already existing tables.
    The issue is:
    While creating these CMP EJBs in JDeveloper I chose the "New Enterprise Java Bean" EJB creation wizard using the option labeled "Container-managed Entity Beans from Tables". My assumption is that this does what I want, because the wizard prompts for a schema and table you want to map to. Then it creates the attributes & getter/setter methods, PK class, etc. all based on the table defintion automatically. Great. So why when I try to run my application do I get error messages for each EJB such as:
    Auto-creating table: create table STREET_TYPE (PK_STYP_ID NUMBER(8), STREET_TYPE VARCHAR2(20), primary key (PK_STYP_ID, STREET_TYPE))
    Warning: Error creating table: ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object
    Huh?? I thought the idea is that the CMP EJB is mapped to the existing table in my schema. Why is the Container trying to create new tables?? Is this possible? Or am I missing something fundamental about how Containers create and manage CMPs? Or is this just a JDevelop container issue? TIA

    I presume you are getting the problem on application
    deploy? This happens when upon initialization of the application using the built-in OC4J container/app server that is part of JDeveloper. Here is the full messaging:
    [Starting OC4J using the following ports: HTTP=8989, RMI=23892, JMS=9228.]

    If so, in the application.xml file of you
    OC4J instance the is a setting autocreate-tables,
    which by default is true!
    Set it to false as below and that should clear up
    your problem.

    Hi,
    i am chiranjit , i am in a jsp project . i am desparately looking a solution for below stated problem:
    i want to make a jsp page for master entry , that why i want to load a GUI Java bean in my jsp page.This GUI Bean contaning a JTable in which allow grid type data entry in the jsp page. But i am unable load that bean in the jsp page through jsp:useBean tag in my page.So if you have any solution then send in the forum as early as possible.
    Thank you
    chiranjit

    No can do. JSPs can only output plain HTML (and javascript...) They are not used like normal Java classes.
    If you need a complex GUI then you might use an Applet instead. If you want to use a JSP then you are stuck using normal HTML components, like <table> <form...> <input type="text"> etc...
