  • How to add raw HTML tags inside JSF tags...

    Hi
    I would like to use <input type = text > inside my project in some area..The following code hides the input = type html tag and forwards the click event to jsf command button...After selecting the file,it should forward the value to jsf textfield....
    My code seems as below.
    <h:form id="detailForm" onsubmit="printElements(detailForm,this)">
    <f:verbatim>
    <input id="uploadFile" type="file" style ="dispaly:none"size="100" />
    </f:verbatim>
    <h:inputText id="docName" style="width:650px;" maxlength="100"/>
    <h:commandButton id="visibleBrowseButton" value="Select File..." onclick="'detailForm:uploadFile'.click();callClick();">
    </h:commandButton>
    </h:form>
    <script type="text/Javascript">
    function callClick()
    var val = document.detailForm.uploadFile.value;
    document.getElementById('detailForm:docName').value = val;
    </script>
    While running this page it works fine in IE but in Mozilla firefox it troubles me during detailForm:uploadFile'.click().
    I suspect the jsf page cannot able to detect the raw html tag inside jsf tags...Eventhough i tried using inside<f:verbatim> it wont works..
    I would like to know
    1.Whether the code is right,,if the code goes wrong why it got runned in IE not in firefox....
    2.How can raw html tags can be integrated inside JSF tags....

    First of all, why are you ignoring valuable answers about a JSF fileupload component in your previous topic?
    Second, you can just nest raw HTML anywhere in your JSF page. Your problem is rather related to JavaScript. It has completely nothing to do with Java nor JSF. Learn JavaScript -there is a nice tut at w3schools.com- and look for a JavaScript forum if you still stucks. There are ones at webdeveloper.com and dynamicdrive.com.
    The f:verbatim is only required if you was using JSF 1.1 or older, which is not the case. You would have occurred completely different problems.

  • Struts tag within struts tag

    Hi, i'm trying to preselect my dropdown list in my jsp page from a value inside a javabean:
    <td>
             <html:select property="value(profType)" value="<bean:write name="item" ignore="true" property="profType"/>">
              <html:option value="postpay">POSTPAY</html:option>
              <html:option value="prepay">PREPAY</html:option>
              <html:option value="differential">DIFFERENTIAL</html:option>
              <html:option value="prepay-differential">PREPAY-DIF</html:option>
             </html:select>
         </td>However, I'm sure this isn't legal so is there another way to preselect the value?

    Sorry it was a little abrupt.
    Struts can work both ways.
    Yes it takes the values from your html form, and maps it into your form-bean for you.
    Great stuff.
    However it can also take it from your form-bean and display it on the html form.
    If you don't specify a value for the field, it will try and look it up using the name/property attributes of the tag.
    Your property value(profType) would indicate that you are using a map backed form? If your form contains that value it should be able to populate the select box for you using that property.
    ie all you should need is this:
    <html:select property="value(profType)">
    or maybe
    <html:select name="item" property="profType")>
    As you have noticed you can't nest custom tags as attributes to other custom tags. You can only use runtime expressions.
    If you have JSP2.0 container then you could probably write it as
    <html:select property="value(profType)" value="${item.profType}">

  • Tags inside tags in InDesign

    Hello,
    I have a problem with InDesign tags. I hope I've mapped tags to styles correctly, but suppose this: you have a tag inside another tag, like superscript inside italics, I then need the superscript to be italics as well. And if it's not inside italics then I need it to be regular.
    <i>Ba<sup>r</sup>nabas</i> would have to be Barnabas
    NO<sup>2+</sup> would have to be NO2+
    This seems to be a bit of a problem for InDesign (CS3). Would there be a ready solution for this?
    Many thanks,
    Ervin

    Possibly your expectations are too high. ... Scratch that "possibly".
    XML, in general, cannot be "rendered". It's just an abstract data format. Compare it to common markup such as *asterisks* to indicate emphasized words -- e-mail clients will show this text in bold, but InDesign, and the vast majority of other software, does not.
    To "render" XML, HTML, MathML, or LaTeX -- you seem to freely mix these *very* different markup formats, unaware of the fact that they are vastly different from each other! -- in the format you "expect", you need to apply the appropriate software to each of  the original data files. None of these markup languages are supported natively by InDesign.

  • Struts tag library instead of JSTL

    My developers here are not very well versed with JSTL .
    Is it advisable to use the Struts tag library instead of JSTL.

    For JSTL you need two jar files in your web-inf/lib directory.
    standard.jar
    jstl.jar
    You only mentioned standard.jar - make sure the other is there as well.
    There are also some libraries requried. I think they were included with JDK1.4, but am not entirely certain.
    Check out the requirements on this page:
    http://jakarta.apache.org/taglibs/doc/standard-1.0-doc/standard-1.0/GettingStarted.html
    Particularly those related to JAXP.
    I am think EOFException might be a trouble with parsing the c.tld file in the standard.jar
    Hope this helps,

  • Using EL variable in struts bean:message tag(not struts EL tag)

    Is there any work around to use an EL variable inside struts bean:message tag as key:
    I have like this:
    <bean:message key="${bean.keyName}"/>
    which is throwing error , I know this can be resolved by using struts-el tags but i cannot use them for specific reasons.
    I dont want to use bean:define tag to define my 'bean' and then use like this:
    <bean:message key="<%=bean.getKeyName%>"/> (this actually works, but i want to use EL variable)
    Is there any work around to use EL variable and make the message display on the jsp.
    i tried multiple ways like scriplets and jsp:useBean but nothing worked, Please let me know..
    Thanks in advance

    Im pretty sure that EL does not work in the normal struts tag unless its struts-el tag.Have you tried it?
    As I said, in a properly configured JSP2.0 container you can use EL expressions anywhere you could traditionally use a standard runtime expression <%= expr %>.
    What server are you using? What JSP version?
    The Struts-el tags were written so that you could use EL with struts in JSP1.2 containers.
    The c_rt tags were written so you could use runtime expressions with JSTL tags in JSP1.2 containers. Their use was discouraged even then. Now I consider their use absolutely unnecessary.

  • Struts tag for request.setAttribute() in a jsp page

    Hello All
    Does anyone know struts tag that can be used for request.setAttribute() in a jsp page?
    Thanx in advance.

    Well
    <bean:define id="foo" name="newsIdAttribute" scope="request" type="java.lang.String" />is equivalent to
    <%
    (java.lang.String) foo = (java.lang.String)request.getAttribute("newsIdAttribute");
    %for setting bean properties you might have to use
    <jsp:setProperty/> or <c:set/> tags in JSP / JSTL respectively.
    Hope this might answer your question :)

  • How to get parameter and add it to hyperlink using struts tag?

    Hi everyone:
    There is a.jsp pass a parameter to b.jsp.How to get the parameter in b.jsp using struts Tag?I also want to add the parameter to a hyperlink in b.jsp.For example in b.jsp <html:link forward=.....>cxxxx</html:link>.How to add the parameter(get from a.jsp) to cXXXX in b.jsp?

    Try this:
    Copy A Request Parameter - You can create a new bean containing the value of a parameter included in this request. If no parameter of the specified name was included, a request time exception will be thrown - therefore, it is common to nest the use of this tag inside a <logic:present parameter="xxx"> tag to ensure that the parameter was really included. If there is the possibility that more than one parameter of the same name was included, specify the "multiple" attribute (and the resulting value bean will be an array of String values, instead of a single String).
    <bean:parameter id="name" name="name"/>
    And then just use <html:link> with paramId. No java code at all.

  • Calling methods from inside a tag using jsp 2.0

    My searching has led me to believe that you cannot call methods from in the jsp 2.0 tags. Is this correct? Here is what I am trying to do.
    I have an object that keeps track of various ui information (i.e. tab order, whether or not to stripe the current row and stuff like that). I am trying out the new (to me) jsp tag libraries like so:
    jsp page:
    <jsp:useBean id="rowState" class="com.mypackage.beans.RowState" />
    <ivrow:string rowState="${rowState}" />my string tag:
    <%@ attribute type="com.mypackage.beans.RowState" name="rowState" required="true" %>
    <c:choose>
         <c:when test="${rowState.stripeToggle}">
              <tr class="ivstripe">
         </c:when>
         <c:otherwise>
              <tr>
         </c:otherwise>
    </c:choose>I can access the getter method jst fine. It tells me wether or not to have a white row or a gray row. Now I want to toggle the state of my object but I get the following errors when I try this ${rowState.toggle()}:
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: /WEB-INF/tags/ivrow/string.tag(81,2) The function toggle must be used with a prefix when a default namespace is not specified
    Question 1:
    Searching on this I found some sites that seemed to say you can't call methods inside tag files...is this true?...how should I do this then? I tried pulling the object out of the pageContext like this:
    <%@ page import="com.xactsites.iv.beans.*" %>
    <%
    RowState rowState = (RowState)pageContext.getAttribute("rowState");
    %>I get the following error for this:
    Generated servlet error:
    RowState cannot be resolved to a type
    Question 2:
    How come java can't find RowState. I seem to recall in my searching reading that page directives aren't allowed in tag files...is this true? How do I import files then?
    I realized that these are probably newbie questions so please be kind, I am new to this and still learning. Any responses are welcome...including links to good resources for learning more.

    You are correct in that JSTL can only call getter/setter methods, and can call methods outside of those. In particular no methods with parameters.
    You could do a couple of things though some of them might be against the "rules"
    1 - Whenever you call isStripeToggle() you could "toggle" it as a side effect. Not really a "clean" solution, but if documented that you call it only once for each iteration would work quite nicely I think.
    2 - Write the "toggle" method following the getter/setter pattern so that you could invoke it from JSTL.
    ie public String getToggle(){
        toggle = !toggle;
        return "";
      }Again its a bit of a hack, but you wouldn't be reusing the isStriptToggle() method in this way
    The way I normally approach this is using a counter for the loop I am in.
    Mostly when you are iterating on a JSP page you are using a <c:forEach> tag or similar which has a varStatus attribute.
    <table>
    <c:forEach var="row" items="${listOfThings}" varStatus="status">
      <tr class="${status.index % 2 == 0 ? 'evenRow' : 'oddRow'}">
        <td>${status.index}></td>
        <td>${row.name}</td>
      </tr>
    </c:forEach>

  • How to prepare Custom tag with scope as  session  like Struts tag

    Hi
    All Struts tags having the feature of Automatic Scoping.
    Automatic Scoping: Struts tags check all contexts (namely page, request, session, application) and use the first instance found. Developers do not have to explicitly "retrieve" objects from a particular scope. They may, however, specify a context.
    same as like struts tag I want to preapre 'select custom tag'.which will retrieve its previous selected value automatically and display.And one important thing is I dont want to set the selected value of custom tag in session expicitly.I mean the custom tag it self should take care to set the session vale and retrieve the sesion value and display like Struts tag . For struts select tag we wont set any selected value in session though it will retrieve the previous value and display when scope of form = session

  • Passing struts-tag value to java / javascript variable in JSP

    Hello all,
    Im trying to pass the value got from the struts-tag to the java variable in the Jsp. However Im not able to get the o/p. Can u guys help me on this pls...
    <logic:notEmpty name="TreeBean" property="list">

    </logic:notEmpty>Here the list can be populated in the jsp page. However i want the values into jsp list. Im not able to populate the same..
    <% List jspList = null;
    %> I want the values into the jspList variable for further processing. Can u guz pls help me on this....

    Which do you want it in?
    A java variable for use in <% scriptlet code %> or a javascript variable for use on the client end?
    scriptlet:
    <jsp:useBean id="TreeBean" type="java.util.List" class="java.util.ArrayList" scope="?????" />
    Having scriptlet code on the page is considered bad coding style.
    What is it you are trying to accomplish by making the value accessible?
    What are you trying to do in java / javascript that can't be done with JSP tags?
