Hi
Thankyou VeryMuch
Now I am Converting Swing Applicatin to AWT Application
A small pblm is ..
In Swings we have DefaultCellEditor to Construct Tables and tree cells.
Is there any thing like that in AWT ??

hi,
no there is nothing like that, you have to do it for
your own.
a hint: do not mix awt with swing, this will only face
you with problems, which are hardly to handle

  • Java.awt.IllegalComponentStateException in JTable

    Hi folks,
    I am trying to write a JTable cell validation. Input data in a cell, if failure, prompt message and set focus & editing back to the cell. I've tried InputVerifier() but it doesn't work since I can easily use the mouse click to shift to other cells in the same table.
    What I am trying to do now is to define my DefaultCellEditor. I record the row & index position when getting focus. In the lost focus event, do the validation and set the focus & editing back if failure. Seems it works fine. However, when I randomly click different cells in the table quickly. It prompts:
    "java.awt.IllegalComponentStateException: component must be showing on the screen to determine its location"

    Your use in a JTable isn't too clear to me, but I feel you're overthinking the basic requirement:
    I have an extended JComboBox which is meant to display its information only. Thus it
    - does not allow any selection
    - shows the first item of the list in the TextField only and not once more in the listI don't see the need for duplicating the model and using a popup menu listener.

  • Trying to add a java.awt.Choice object to a JTable

    Hi
    I am creating an app. which uses a JTable as the front end, displaying string data in all cells except the first column, which I need to make java.awt.Choice objects (or equivalent) - users will click the cell, a list of job numbers will be displayed and they click the one they want.
    Every time I run the app instead of a drop down list of job numbers I get the text:
    java.awt.Choice[choice0,0,0,0x0,invalid,current=K5000]
    I am unsure how to proceed.
    Any and all help appreciated - for reference my code at present is:
    Choice jobNumber = new Choice();
    jobNumber.addItem("K5000");
    Object[][] dataValues = {
    {jobNumbers[0], "A job title", new Integer(0), new Integer(0), new Integer(8), new Integer(8), new Integer(4), new Integer(0), new Integer(0)},
    where the JTable constructor is passed this array
    regards

    Don't mix Swing and AWT!! Have a look at the JTable tutorial on this site.

  • JTable Awt -Event Queue problem

    Hi
    I've been looking everywhere for a solution to this, but can't seem to find one. I've got a JTable with an underlying model that is being continuously updated (every 100ms or so). Whenever I try to sort the JTable using TableRowSorter while the model is being added to I get
    Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: -1
    at java.util.Vector.elementAt(Vector.java:430)
    at javax.swing.table.DefaultTableColumnModel.getColumn(DefaultTableColumnModel.java:277)
    I don't understand this as in my custom table model I've added the fireTableChanged etc. in a SwingUtilities.invokeLater( ...) thread.
    Has anyone else encountered this problem and found a solution? I'd be really grateful!
    Thanks

    Hi
    Thanks for responding, I'm still a little confused. I've posted the code below for both the JTable and the TableModel. The tablemodel simply gets values from a vector which is being dynamically updated from outside the table - but whenever the vector is added to
    The problem seems to only occur when I press the column header to sort the tables during the updates. My understanding is that the method refresh() should create a threadsafe update of the table - but somehow it refreshes the binding to the tablemodel and during this time the table returns a defaulttablemodel that doesn't correspond to the actual underlying data....I thought this kind of problem would be solved by invoking all updates on the swing event thread, but it seems to still produce the effect and I'm stumped!!
    (The data is in an array called turns, and the addElement() in another class calls the refresh() method)
    many thanks, in the hope that someone has the kindness and and benevolence to wade through the following code!

    Use the addColumnSelectionInterval(int index1, int index2)method ~ http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/api/javax/swing/JTable.html#addColumnSelectionInterval(int,%20int)
    and the addRowSelectionInterval(int index1, int index2) method ~ http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/api/javax/swing/JTable.html#addRowSelectionInterval(int,%20int)
    Hope that helped.

  • Create a JTable based on an ArrayList containing instances of a class.

    I have a class, IncomeBudgetItem, instances of which are contained in an ArrayList. I would like to create a JTable, based on this ArrayList. One variable is a string, while others are type double. Not all variables are to appear in the JTable.

  • URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR JTABLE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    firstly i made a jtable to adds and deletes rows and passes the the data to the table model from some textfields. then i wanted to add a tablemoselistener method in order to change the value in the columns 1,2,3,4 and set the result of them in the column 5. when i added that portion of code the buttons that added and deleted rows had problems to function correctly..they dont work at all..can somebody have a look in my code and see wot is wrong..thanx in advance..
    below follows the code..sorry for the mesh of the code..you can use and run the code and notice the problem when you press the add button..also if you want delete the TableChanged method to see that the add button works perfect.

    There are too many mistakes in your program. It looks like you are new to java.
    Your add and delete row buttons are not working because you haven't registered your action listener with these buttons.
    I have modifide your code and now it works fine. Just put some validation code for the textboxes becuase it throws exception when user presses add button without entering anything.
    Here is the updated code: Do the diff and u will know my changes

  • Display data in JTable

    I am trying to display data from database into the JTable swing component. I can see the table and the heading coming from the vector. I cannot see why the data from the databse table is not loaded on to the Jtable. I just get a table with 6 rows blank.
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class dataTable extends JApplet
    String dbdriver="jdbc:oracle:thin:@ds1.ctateu.edu:1521:wpac";
    String dbuser="system";
    String dbpass="pass";
    Container c;
    JScrollPane jsp;
    JTable table;
    int v,h;
    Connection connection;
    Statement stmt;
    ResultSet rs;
    String param_start,param_end, param_disp_start, param_disp_end,param_shortdesc, param_longdesc;
    public void init()
    c= getContentPane();
    c.setLayout (new BorderLayout());
    v=ScrollPaneConstants.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_ALWAYS;
    h=ScrollPaneConstants.HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_ALWAYS;
    Vector heading = new Vector();
    heading.addElement("Event Start Date");
    heading.addElement("Event End Date");
    heading.addElement("Display Start Date");
    heading.addElement("Display End Date");
    heading.addElement("Short Description");
    heading.addElement("Long Description");
    Vector data = new Vector();
    try
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    connection=DriverManager.getConnection(dbdriver,dbuser,dbpass);
    stmt=connection.createStatement();
    rs= stmt.executeQuery("select * from univevents");
    while(rs.next())
    param_start = rs.getString("start_date");
    param_end = rs.getString("end_date");
    param_disp_start = rs.getString("display_start");
    param_disp_end =rs.getString("display_end");
    param_shortdesc = rs.getString("short_desc");
    param_longdesc = rs.getString("long_desc");
    catch (Exception e)
    //JOptionPane.showMessageDialogue("Exception: "+e.getMessage());
    data.addElement(param_start);
    data.addElement(param_end);
    data.addElement(param_disp_start);

    jsp = new JScrollPane(table,v,h);
    //Add scrollpane to container
    c.add("Center",jsp);
    }//init
    }//JApplet

    Your data vector should be a Vector of Vectors.
    I think you need to change your loop to look something like this:
    while(rs.next())
        Vector row = new Vector();
        row.addElement( rs.getString("start_date") );
        row.addElement( rs.getString("end_date") );
        row.addElement( rs.getString("display_start") );
        row.addElement( rs.getString("display_end") );
        row.addElement( rs.getString("short_desc") );
        row.addElement( rs.getString("long_desc") );
        data.addElement( row );
    } Then remove your data.addElement() statements found outside the loop.

  • Refresh jTable after inserting new data into the Database

    Hey all,
    I'm using Netbeans 6.5 to create a Desktop Application which is connected to a Java DB (Derby).
    The first simple steps were all very successfull:
    Create the jTable and bind it to the Database => everything works fine. When the application starts it correctly shows all data from the database.
    The problem starts when I try to insert new data to the database.
    For that reason I've created textfields and a button "Save". When I press the button it successfully inserts the data to the database but they are not displayed in the jTable (when the application starts they are all there, they are not updated at runtime) . I've tried table.invalidate() and table.repaint() but they just don't work.
    Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. But please have in mind that most of the code is Netbeans-generated and most of it not editable.
    Many thanks in advance.
    George

    Once again you are right my friend. I jumped to conclusion way too fast, when I shouldn't. (Give me a break, I've been busting my head with this well over a week). The response I saw when I did that was that indeed a line is added to the jTable. Because I falsly set the index of the object to be added to be second to last the row appeared on the table, what I didn't see at the time was that the last one disappeared. Hmm...
    A new adventure begins...
    So after a few hours of messing around with it here are my observations:
    1) It was not an observable list. When I add the new element with employeesList.add(newEmp); , the table gets notified but a get a bunch of exceptions:

    ... and a lot morewhich from my poor understanding means that the jTable succesfully notices the change but it is not able (??) to adjust to the new change. What is more interesting is that when I plainly add the element to the end of the list (without an idex that is), a blank row appears at the end of my Table. The weird thing is that I've bound the table to some text fields below it, and when I select that empty row all the data appear correctly to the text fields.
    I tried going through:
                    org.jdesktop.observablecollections.ObservableCollections.observableList(employeesList).add(newEmp);as well as
                    help = org.jdesktop.observablecollections.ObservableCollections.observableListHelper(employeesList);
                    help.getObservableList().add(newEmp);
                    help.fireElementChanged(employeesList.lastIndexOf(newEmp));and
                    obsemployeesList = org.jdesktop.observablecollections.ObservableCollections.observableList(employeesList);
                    obsemployeesList.add(newEmp);and I still get the same results (both the exeptions and the mysterious empty row at the end of the table
    So, I'm again in terrible need of your advice. I can't thank you enough for the effort you put into this.
    Best regards,
    George

    Please help.Its urgentThen why didn't you use the formatting tags to make it easier for use to read the code?
    Because of the above I didn't take a close look at your code, but i would suggest you should be using a ListSelectionListener to be notified when a row is selected, then you just populate the text area.

  • Refresh data in JTable

    hi, i hava a problem, i have a jtable where same Data column depend from another column of the same jtable and a jtextfield that is external to jtable
    my jtable is
    jcombobox | text | text | text ecc....
    when the user change the SelectedItem of jcombobox the other column`s data is jacombobox values * external JtextField text....
    if i change the value of the external jtextfield how can i refresh the data in the jtable whitout click over all cell???
    this is the code of the My CellRender of the first column:
    public class MyComboBoxRenderer extends JComboBox implements TableCellRenderer {
        JTable jt;
        PortataUgelli pug;
        public MyComboBoxRenderer(String[] items,JTable table,PortataUgelli pu) {
            super(items);
            this.jt=table;
            this.pug=pu;
            addItemListener(new java.awt.event.ItemListener() {
                public void itemStateChanged(java.awt.event.ItemEvent evt){
                    if (jt.getSelectedColumn()==0){ //This action is only for the first column
                        String ugello= (String)getSelectedItem();
                        if (ugello==null) ugello=""+0;
                        double b=Double.parseDouble(pug.getPressione().trim());
                        String par="" + new VariID().getFunzioneUgelli(ugello,b); //this method calculate the value of the other cell
                        int sel;
                        if (jt.getSelectedRow() < 0) sel=0;
                        else sel = jt.getSelectedRow();
                        jt.setValueAt(par,sel,1); //set the value of the cell
        public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table, Object value,
                boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int column) {
            if (isSelected) {
                setForeground(table.getSelectionForeground());
                super.setBackground(table.getSelectionBackground());
            } else {
                setForeground(table.getForeground());
                setBackground(table.getBackground());
            // Select the current value
            setSelectedItem(value);
            return this;
    }

    It's fairly simple...
    you need to have your own custom TableModel. Extend AbstractTableModel and when you go to set a cell (to change the data in that cell) you simply fire an event with the:
    fireTableCellUpdated(int row, int column) method to let the view know that the data changed in that cell of that table changed and needs to be redrawn...
    Here's the link to the tutorial page/section on creating a custom table model and also firing events when data changes:

  • Java JTable Screen Blink Problem.

    Dear All,
    I am facing Screen blink issue while using the JTable.
    JTable is updated in real Time, It uses custom table model.
    To update the JTable, I update the Table Model and then call the UpdateUI() and repaint(). These update process is running in non-AWTevent-dispatch thread. So, During the real Time Update of the Table, When we do some rough handling work on the Table( for example, press the Enter Key on the Table for 1-2 minutes, move the Scroll Bar up and down fastly etc), It throws the following exception and the Table starts blinking.
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    at javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicTableUI.paintCell(BasicTableUI.java:1141)

    at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(EventDispatchThread.java:137)
    at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(EventDispatchThread.java:100)
    The blinking also moves to Other Components such as JTree which is doing real time update in another screen of the Same Application.
    How to resolve this Screen Blinking Phenemenon ? Some suggested to use SwingUtilities.invokeLater() for UpdateUI(). But, I am concerned about the performance, using it in real time update as it may create many threads, it may cause other performance issues. Is other any other better solution ?
    Looking forward to your comments !
    Thanks !

    To update the JTable, I update the Table Model and then call the UpdateUI() and repaint(). No need to call updateUI() (I'd like to shot the person in the forum who keeps suggesting that and shot the people who keep using the method without reading the API to see what it actually does) or repaint(). You simply update the TableModel and the table will repaint itself.
    Here is a simple example of real time updates to a table from a non-GUI thread:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=57&threadID=597870
    We can't help you because we have absolutely no idea what your code looks like

  • Retrieving values entered in a JTable

    Hi!
    I have made a sudoku solver as many others, but in the purpose of learning recursion, and now I am implementing GUI to that program. I have bean strugling to set up a table that shows the sudokutable, and most of all how to recieve the values entered into the table. I have looked at forums and search at google, but all the topics on this is not good enough. I just simply do not understand what they mean. Most often they just say: "Just paste this code in and it will turn out as intended". I want to know how it works.
    I have added the code below:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.imageio.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import easyIO.*;
    import java.util.*;
