Just lost VITAL calendar info in Z22/Windows XP hotsync

I have a Zire 22. Opened the desktop calendar to add something and noticed that the last year or two worth of data was missing from the calendar. 2006 seems untouched but lost everything added 2007 to the present. My handheld was fine so I decided to do a hotsync. Checked the settings first & they said "synchronize the files" and that's never been a problem so I didn't change anything and went ahead with the hotsync. And when it was done, I had a message in the hotsync log, NO new information added to the desktop and MY HANDHELD LOST ALL THE CALENDAR INFORMATION.
The message in the log says: "Some handheld records were not copied onto yourPC. Your computer may be full or you may have reached the maximum alowed records on the desktop. To correct this situation, delete some records and perform a HotSync operation again."
I don't understand this message and I don't want to perform a another hotsync since I LOST the information to hotsync!
Any help?

You can recover the data from your user folder provided you have only sync'ed once with the PC when you discovered the data missing. When you sync to the PC there are files created for each PIM category in your user folder. For Example; datebook.dat or datebook (Depending on the version of Palm Desktop) and datebook.bak. Using 6.2 the file names are .mdb and mdb.bak. For 6.2, the files are located in the username folder in PalmOSdesktop in my documents.
The files are named .dat and .bak. When you sync, the current data is stored in .dat. The next time you sync the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. You can rename the .dat to .old. then rename the .bak to .dat. If the data in the .bak file is intact, it will now be in palm desktop when you reopen Palm desktop. I have included a link to show you how to find the userfolder on the PC.

The best way to backup your data is to use the export feature in Palm Desktop. Make a new folder on the PC desktop named Palm Desktop Backup data. Next, select the category you want to export. You will get a window that asks where you want to save the file, save in the folder created on the desktop. There is a button that allows you to select currently selected record or all, select all. If you don't select all, then only the record highlighted is exported. You will then need to name the file for export, I suggest the name of the category, eg: datebook (With current date). Do this for all critical data in each category. With the data exported to the folder on the PC desktop, you can save this data to a flash drive, external hard drive or a CD-RW. With this method you will have your data in a seperate place than Palm desktop and the device. If you "Lose" data again, you can import the data back into palm desktop.
Make sure that when you make changes in palm desktop or the device to export the data to the folder created for the backup.

So... you aren't in iCloud forum (there is one), this also is not Mac notebook Community, and it isn't a notebook issue. There is a forum for ML.

  • Palm Desktop Vista Loses Calendar Info and won't allow hotsync to replace it from Z22

For the second time in about a month, I have opened Palm Desktop on my Vista PC to find that the calendar is blank. All the information that was there is now gone. When I then attempt a hotsync with my Z22 (where that data is still intact), the hotsync hangs at step 2 of 12, which correlates to the second datebook sync in the log.
What I would like to know is: 1. What is the name of the data files that hold the sync info, and would trashing them allow a successfull hotsync? 2. Can .bak files be used in place of .dba files to replace the data? 3. What can I do in the future to avoid this issue?

I too, opened Palm Desktop on my Vista ran computer only to have all my info gone ... my desktop was more up to date than my Palm TX by four weeks.  Is there anyway I can get this info back without doing the hotsync ... seeing my desktop was the most up to date????
Any assistances would be most appreciated.

  • Lost my Calendar info to iCloud.

    Hello.
Can anyone tell me how to get all my calendar info back from iCloud please?  My diary has gone completely blank and can ony surmise that it has gone to iCloud.  Any help would be appreciated.

The only possible way that you can restore the data is by restoring the iPad from a backup. Did you restore from a backup at the end of the restoring process?
Why was Apple support not able to help? Is the backup gone?

  • Lost all calendar info on Zire 72

turned on computer..clicked Palm desktop icon..error message quickly popped up and disappeared before I could read it or record it and then my calendar appeared and it was completely blank.
any ideas on problem or retrieval??

Depends. The first thing done when you perform a sync, is an iphone backup. Included in that backup are your calendar entries. If you have not synced since your sync that deleted your calendar entries, that data should still be in your iphone backup. To restore it to your phone, first disable auto sync under preferences in itunes(under the edit menu). Then, put one calendar entry in Outlook. Next, connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC, right click the phone in the device pane & select "reset warnings". Next, right click again & select "restore", then select restore from backup. Follow this by syncing your itunes content back to your phone. You should get a popup regarding your calendar asking to merge or replace. Select "merge".

  • I think I just lost all my info while updating to iOS4

    Hey guys,
So I left my iphone 3G updating to iOS4 during the night as the backup process looked like it would take a lot of time.
I originally created my profile on my laptop but eventually "associated" the iphone with my main computer.
So when I woke up I see the iphone already restored and then it's asking me to which profile I want to restore. So it happens my profile is NOT there!
I would really appreciate any advice you guys can give me
I'm stressing out here cause I had a lot of important stuff there
    Thanks in advance
    Phillip

    So is this backup useless?
Unfortunately, that could very well be the case. Not watching over you while you performed various steps, obviously I can't say where or what you did wrong. So you better understand what "may" have happened here, iTunes only keeps one normal iPhone backup. It's actually an incremental backup in that only data that has changed is actually backed up. While contacts and notes are included in the iPhone backup, if you perform a sync without that same content on your phone, that content is then removed from your iPhone backup. Could be what has happened here. From your post it appears you have not been syncing your contacts to a supported application on your computer: bad idea. Had you been regularly syncing all of the content on your phone, even if your iPhone backup became corrupted, you could still restore this data to your phone.

  • LOST Calendar info, running Version 4.1.4 Software Desktop Software

I lost ALL my calendar info on my Palm software, with the exception of "repeat" events that were logged prior to 2009 (all other repeats enterend this year gone).  Is there ANYTHING I can do retrieve this info?  Unfortunately my handheld has not been working since the begining of the year, so cannot sync.

Since you don't sync regularly, there may only be the backup file you had created during the last sync., that you can restore.
    Here are the instructions;
You can recover the data from your user folder provided you have only sync'ed once with the PC when you discovered the data missing. When you sync to the PC there are files created for each PIM category in your user folder. For Example; datebook.dat or datebook (Depending on the version of Palm Desktop) and datebook.bak. • HT4901 My desktop calendar info is lost when I signed up for Icloud I have an ipad and iphone and cannot get calendar to sync with desktop, phone or ipad!

My calendar info is lost on my pc. I am using icloud.

One iCloud account has one user name (a .mac or .me email name) and password.  If you have set up multiple accounts in the past then you must choose one and stay with it.  If you don't know the user name, then you have a problem.  If you haven't really begun using iCloud (but you mention trying to get mail, so I'm assuming you have used iCloud before), then use a .mac or .me account you know you have or just sign up for a new account - and be sure to write down the name and password for future use.
If you want to use the account to sync your contacts, email, calendars, etc, then each of your ios devices need to use the same account, otherwise they will be independent of one another.

  • HT1766 I lost all of my calendar info.

I lost all of my calendar info like appointments for myself and four kids. I want to go to a previous backup to try to recover these appts. All I see is how to backup from the last one. Can I go back 2 or 3 backups?
I lost it somewhere in the process of flying to and from Savannah. I have tried to reset my iPhone and also restore it but as I said I can only restore from last backup which does not have my appointments.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • I just synced my iPhone and lost all the info in notes from my phone. It was replaced with whT was on my iMac how do you make the sync go from phone to desktop and not the other way around

I Just synced my iPhone and lost all the info in notes I had on the phone. How do you have the info sync from phone to desktop and not the other way around as I usually make contact changes etc on my phone. I would then like to be able to sync that info from desktop to ipad thanks

It does make sense.  The iPhone is a one-person device and just syncs to one computer.
The way it should work is as follows:
Old computer content ---> New computer
New computer <---> syncs to iPhone
But the way you are trying to operate sounds like:
    Old computer content ---> iPhone
    ... and ...
    New computer content <---> iPhone
So simply move your old stuff (either directly from iTunes, or from a computer backup) to the new computer, have it all there, then sync your iPhone to the new machine.

You'd have to think through this, but it seems like if you are using Outlook, and the items vanished from the Outlook client as well as the server, that you could re-populate Outlook using iTunes.

  • Can't connect to .Mac, lost all Contacts, Calendar info

    Hi all.
I have a recent iPod touch. It's set up to synchronize (Mail, Contacts, iCal, Applications) wirelessly with MobileMe, NOT via iTunes.
    Everything was working fine.
This afternoon, I loaded 5 pictures and also used the Maps application.
Now, back home, the iPod can't connect to MobileMe: if I try to use the Mail application, it displays the msg "Checking for Mail..." forever and nothing happens. Eventually, I get a msg stating "Cannot Get Mail The user name or password for [email protected] is incorrect". (That is ********.), I click OK and then it states "Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server failed".
I also appear to have lost all my contacts (only about 1200) and all the calendar info.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hi, everybody.
Following an Apple troubleshooting procedure, I ended up deleting my account and re-creating one and was then able to recover my contacts, mail and calendar info from MobileMe.
