Just resolved the Bridge CS4 no-RAW-preview problem

I trashed the ACR 5.7 update I downloaded yesterday with the previous ACR 5.6 I had on my cloned drive and now Bridge does indeed show previews with RAW files, just as it has before.  I'm hoping the Lightroom 2.7 update I also did yesterday will still play nice with 5.6.  I'll find out.
Adobe has a problem with 5.7, I think.

No; ACR 5.7 is fine.
From what you said in your other thread, you were using the wrong folder to house the Camera Raw plug-in.
Here's a screen shot from and old post:
Note that the plug-in for CS4 is in a different folder from that of CS3.  Also make sure you are NOT in your user library but your Root Level Library.

  • Elements 8 (Mac), Bridge CS4, Camera Raw 6.1

I've been using Elements 8 on my Mac for a number of months now.  The PSE8 installation also included Bridge CS4,which includes the 'full' version of Camera Raw (when used from Bridge versus from Elements).  I see Adobe just provided an update to Camera Raw - version 6.1.  I've downloaded the update and applied it following the instructions, and ACR from within Elements does indeed reflect version 6.1. However, when I use Bridge CS4 and open a file with Camera Raw, it still reflects the previously installed version of ACR - version 5.7.
I've tried using the Update function within Bridge, but it's not finding any updates.  Does anyone know how this is going to work?  It seems as though ACR 6.1 is tied to CS5, not CS4. Since my version of Bridge is CS4, and it came with Elements 8 (on the Mac), it seems a little confusing as to how the move to ACR 6.1 will work for Bridge CS4.
I haven't seen any information posted regarding this, so just checking around.
    Thanks,
    Mark

Like Barbara replied, you can not upgrade ACR to version 6.1 for Bridge CS4. So, on updating Bridge through update option within the Bridge, it will not show any upgrade for ACR (if it is already 5.7).
So, you have to continue using ACR5.7 with Bridge. However, you can enjoy ACR6.1 update with PSE8.

  • Bridge CS4 - pdf scrambled previews on pages after page 1

I have a set of pdf files from InDesign that have multiple pages. On these files, the first page displays fine, but on subsequent pages the preview is scrambled and I detect some overall display glitchiness while Bridge is showing me a scrambled preview.
I understand Adobe's hooking into OpenGL hardware acceleration, so I checked preferences in Bridge CS4 for acceleration settings. I checked the "use software rendering" option in the Advanced settings, restarted Bridge and the problem disappears.
I'm running an ATI FireGL 3400 card with the latest driver on an XP Pro machine. Not all multiple page pdfs show the problem. The files with the scrambled previews are banner layouts and several letter size page layouts display multiple page previews normally. I'd be happy to provide Adobe support with a file (under 2MB) for testing. So far Photoshop appears to be happy with OpenGL acceleration enabled - except that I get messages that I don't have enough ram to run more than two image windows accelerated with my hardware.

I don't have CS4 but in CS3 I could get the same results as "use software rendering" as when I clicked on "restore down" (middle symbol in upper rt corner of windows screen) even though I enlarged the window to full screen.
In maximize window mode I had several problems with the preview without software rendering, and knew my video card was weak point. I know this is not the same issue but does not cost anything to try it. Don't know why it worked either.

  • Why is the Bridge CS4 Output Workspace an Exception?

OUTPUT is the only one of eight Bridge CS4 workspaces that does not return to its default configuration upon choosing "Reset Workspace" (although it does do so for the "Reset Standard Workspaces" option). Is there a rationale for this peculiar exception?

Maybe they thought the user would want to keep his own configuration for further output.
That module is pretty limited though – I think it's a work-in-progress that was rushed out to meet the stupid marketing deadline.

  • Another missing RAW Preview problem....

I have CS4, on Windows 7 64-bit, and was using Bridge5.5...  EVERYTHING worked fine EXCEPT that Lightroom 2.6 complained when going to CS4 that it didn't like 5.5 and wanted 5.6.  I checked but there didn't appear to be an "installation kit" for 5.6 for Windows 7, 64-bit so I got the download at
    www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4624.
Copied the Camera Raw.8bi file to the two directories on my system where Camera Raw.8bi files currently resided:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi   (13644 KB,  3/3/2010 3:17:16 PM)
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi   (13644 KB,  3/3/2010 3:13:43 PM)
Started Lightroom and CS4, and things appear to be happy......
THIS MORNING, I started Bridge.  And suddenly I have icons for my .NEF files instead of previews.  And now Camera Raw on my
context menu.  I can double click and they'll open in the Camera Raw in CS4, but nothing in Bridge.....
ALL I did was follow the instructions and copy the new plugins to where they were.......  What the heck did I do wrong?

I"m not sure if this will help, but I just tried running the update from
    Camera_Raw_5_6_updater.zip...
Ran the setup and got the following on the "Photoshop Camera Raw (64 bit) popup screen:
Cannot Install Please click the Quit button
Photoshop Camera Raw 5.6 - Already Installed
Photoshop Camera Raw (64 bit) 5.6 - Photoshop Camera Raw (64 bit) not installed
and all I can do is push Quit..........
If the 32 bit version is installed (which I'm guessing since the message is NOT very informative), HOW DO I GET RID OF IT?
And/or HOW do I get this #$%^& installer to just install the right plugin?

  • Bridge CS4 Camera Raw Aberrations

I never had this problem in Bridge CS3.
When I open photos with a lot of white areas in camera raw it creates these red aberrations. The photos do not display it in preview mode until I open it in camera raw. Any ideas?
This happens to images I have been working with for years, just in cs4 bridge. Thank you for any help.

Thank you. Though it still shows the error in the preview, when I open it in camera raw, it is no longer there.
You now need to Purge the Cache for each offending folder through the TOOLS menu in Bridge.  DO NOT use the broken global Purge Cache command in Bridge Preferences.

  • Bridge CS4 - AutoCad 2014 previews

Is there a way to produce thumbnail previews for AutoCad files?  This would really be helpful for searching files. At this point Bridge only provides the ACAD icon, but it seems like I remember seeing a preview of the actual file at some point. Maybe it was able to generate only while searching files of a previous version of ACAD?

  • BRIDGE CS4: Anti-aliased preview

    Hi,
Does anyone know if there's a setting somewhere to force Bridge to
produce an anti-aliased preview? I've got a folder with 1000's of vector
eps files and when I browse with Bridge they look off-putting because
    they're not anti-aliased.
    Thanks,
    Ariel

you cant change the anti-aliased setting and non AI created EPS's will always look a little aliased. You can change the thumbnail and preview quality settings tho...

  • Raw and TIFF Thumbnails Not Showing in Bridge CS4

    Hi,
I just bought Photoshop CS4 and installed.  I got an installation error and had to remove and reinstall CS4 (and ran the Mac Cleanup Utility in between).  Then, CS4 installed successfully.
Now, when I fire up Bridge CS4, I can preview JPG files, but not TIFF or RAW (*.NEF format from my D200) files.
Has this happened to anyone else and is there a fix I can apply?  I have installed known updates for CS4 and have purged the cache.
I have tried searching adobe and the online communities for this issue, but haven't been able to locate it.  The problem also applies to *.PSD documents.  I have also tried Tools>Cache>Purge Cach for Folder xxx and this doesn't fix things.
Thanks in advance for your advice!!!

                                    Ian,
    OK, I'm back already.
The bug was easily and instantly reproduced just as I wrote earlier:
With one of the lines under the thumbnails (thumbnail view in
Bridge) set to date created, and the other three to Date Modified,
Pixel Dimensions and Color Profile, respectively. I then invoked the
Global Purge cache command in Bridge CS4. Poof! The date created line
under each and every thumbnail is now blank. The space for the line is there, but it's totally empty,
    blank. >:(
    Invoking
Tools > Cache > Build and Export Cache > for all folders and subfolders restores the data in the blanked lines wiped out by the global Purge Cache command in Bridge preferences.
Thank goodness I had disconnected the FW drives.
I then went again and repeated the procedure one more time. The
Date Created line was again immediately left blank under all
    thumbnails.
    As far as I'm concerned,
the Global Purge cache command in Bridge Preferences in CS4 is broken
, just as it was in CS3 at least until someone tells me how to stop this from happening, reliably and consistently.

Actually, I just thought Bridge had finished. It was still going in the background after midnight. What a bummer!

  • When i transfer my raw files to the bridge the exposure changes

when i transfer my raw files to the bridge the exposure changes

First off you should probably post on the Bridge or Camera Raw Fora.
Secondly: Does the Exposure is the Raw file’s settings change or just the display? Did you use sidecar files you omitted to transfer?

  • Bridge CS4 is slow, slow, slow (so is Photoshop CS4)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ CPU, 4 GB RAM, Windows XP SP2 32-bit, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics card, two 1-TB hard disks with hundreds of GB free
With Bridge CS3 it took less than ten seconds to build the thumbnails of a folder with 85 image files. With Bridge CS4, it takes almost two minutes. Anybody having the same problem?
And where have the preference options for the thumbnail quality gone? I wanted to set the thumbnail quality to 'low' for a speed-up but I cannot. The options just aren't there in the Bridge CS4 preferences dialog ... and it takes forever building those thumbnails one after one, about one per second. And as if that wasn't bad enough already, Bridge CS4 extracts more than hundred thumbnails from only 85 raw image files, according to the text appearing in the status bar next to the spinning radar icon. There is something seriously screwed up.
And Photoshop CS4 is sluggish, too (no matter if Enable OpenGL is on or off).
So by and large, CS4 is a major disappointment. I hope for some updates REAL soon. For now, I am back to CS3. :(

Nope. There is no star icon, no square, and below the workspace options there's the Content pane. Why don't you simply put the thumbnail quality options where they belong and where they always have been?
EDIT: Now I found out what Michelle was talking about: the so-called path bar. Of course I disabled that silly path bar first thing after installing Bridge CS4 so I didn't notice that the UI of one of the most essential settings is located there---and
    i only
there ... even though it has nothing to do with paths. (Suggestion what to do to this UI's designer removed.)

  • Notes & Columns- Bridge CS4

    Hello,
Just a quick question, I'm in the Essentials mode of Bridge; to the right of the main content window is the Preview pane atop the Metadata and Keywords. Metadata is active and File Properties expanded, I have notes ticked in the Metadata, File Properties preferences (beneath- Rating and above- Supports XMP), but no notes field is available in the Bridge, Metadata- File Properties pane. How do I get it active?
I take it that as a user I am able to enter notes in this field (please let me know if I have made an incorrect assumption), but if not where can I enter notes regarding an image and have them displayed when using Bridge? I understand the File Info pane does accommodate this with the Description field, but this is an inconvenience when one just wants to quickly add a few words to an image for future reference.
And while I have your attention...
One other point: When using the Close Column option (after right clicking on a column header while in MetaData (now the main active window)) I have found that when I, for example, traverse to Filmstrip, then return to Metadata the column has reappeared, is there a way to turn off redundant columns so that they do not reappear when navigating back to the Metadata window?
I am sure there are options covering both of my queries, but clearly I have been unsuccessful in locating them.
    Thank you.

I think the notes have to be written with some other software other
than bridge cs4 and then you can see the notes in bridge, but not
    modify the notes in bridge.
For example you can make notes with the photoshop elements
organizer (windows not mac) and they will show up in the notes field.
As far as i know, the elements editor (both mac and windows) does
not have a method of entering notes that show up in the notes field.
If your in the pse8 editor and want add some kind of notes, you would
have to use the file info dialog. In bridge cs4, you can add notes using
the IPTC Core in the metadata panel, usually just below the file properties.
As for the second question, in bridge>Edit>Preferences>Metadata, you
can choose which columns you want to appear by unchecking beside
    the names.
They might know different over in the bridge forum
