Just set up my Apple TV and question on accessing content.

So I just set up my Apple TV, and on the homescreen there are very few things being displayed. How would I go about accessing things like Hulu Plus? There is no icon for it, and I don't know where to go in order to have it be displayed..

If the AppleTV is new you will need to update it to get the icons for HuluPlus, HBO Go, etc.
Be careful with updating right now there are problems with the current udpdate. Read some of the coomments from people that have had issues.
Go to the settings>general>about. The current version is 6.0

Just set up our Apple TV and it works fine for NetFlix. However want to stream photos and I Tune library from home computer but this computer accesses the internet thru a VPR at my wife's place of enployment. Other than a 2nd computer any suggestions?R

Just set up Apple TV on home network. Works fine for NetFlix but we can't stream I Tune libruary or digital photos thru it to our home TV as because of my wife's work we bypass COX and access the internet thru a VPN offered by her employer. Was told we either have to buy a second computer (two expensive for just these two functions) or keep turning on and off the VPN(not practical). Any other ideas? Thanks

Does she need to access the internet through her employer, or is she just trying to access her internal network at work?
If it's the latter, split-stream VPN clients (like Cisco AnyConnect) will split traffic so that only that directed at a particlar domain gets tunneled.
I have an AnyConnect client at home, but I normally only activate it when I'm using it, so I've never tested it with HomeSharing. I'm currently traveling, but when I get home tomorrow, I'll try it out and let you know if it works. If it does, your wife can check with her employer to see if she can configure AnyConnect to work with them.

Did you connect it to the tv direct or through a receiver? If a receiver, you will need it on and switched under the connection.

Disable any security software on the computer.
Reboot the computer and the Apple TV.

Just set up an apple TV device to stream music from my laptop to my DAC then into my pre-amp. Set it up on the Tv but then unplugged it and plugged it into the DAC via a toslink cable. No output. The streaming icon is blue on menu bar. That right?

Are you referring to mirroring or you just unable to set up homesharing.

It needs to load a portion before playback can start, the time it takes is dependent on your network.
What is your current connection via speedtest.net (at least 6mbps needed for instant HD)
Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - general - network)
If on wifi try ethernet
Reboot ATV and router

I have set up my apple tv and am using the remote that came with it. I noticed that when I was using the remote for the tv my computer was also being controlled by it and iTunes popped up. Is there some setting on the computer to stop this from happening? Thanks for your help!

- To change ID go to Settings>Store and sign out and sign in with the one you want. If you iPod has iOS 5 you may have to also go to Settings>iCloud and sign into the second account.
- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
