JVM Core Dump  -  An irrecoverable stack overflow has occurred.;  Unexpected Signal : 11 occurred at PC=0xfb3d40cc;

Hi all,
We have faced this problem in our production system.
Machine is Solaris 8, sparc, Running Java 1.3.1_08 hotspot version.
I searched around quite a bit but no good solution.
Here is the stack trace that I have just before the JVM crashes.
Also, I am new to gdb. I tried to connect to core dump file through gdb but i
do not see any details. The application is running on japanese platform how can
I read the core file?
Regards
Tapan

Before debugging, look at these 20 or so search hits - at least one one of them looks like a possibility.

    I would suggest that you try a latest JDK ver and see if that helps.
    If not, talk to sun or bea support.

    Hi.
    Another point, there are some smp issues in RH 7.1, which is why (reading the fine print on
    our platforms page) we only support smp on RH 7.2. If possible you should upgrade to 7.2 if
    you need to use an smp kernel.
    Regards,
    Michael

    From our support page (http://edocs.bea.com/wls/platforms/index.html#linux) it looks like
    we support kernel 2.4.7-10smp, and you are running a beta kernel- 2.4.5-beta4va3.15smp.
    If possible try updating your kernel to this version.

  • BPC 7 to 7.5 - Core dump at ABAP Stack.

    Hello experts,
    I have upgraded BPC server software from BPC 7.0 to BPC 7.5 SP 03. When I launch Admin client or Excel I get the message Core dump at ABAP stack. When I check in ST21 I see it is trying to execute a function module that does not exist in the system.
    My question is do I need to install something on ABAP side?
    Thanks in advance.
    Edited by: Kashif Siddiqui on Nov 10, 2010 5:20 PM

    http://service.sap.com
    Under Software Downloads, click Support Packages and Patches,  click  A-Z Index, click "B", click SAP BPC FOR SAP NETWEAVER, click SBOP PC 7.5 FOR SAP NW,  click Comprised Software Component Versions, click SAP CPM BPC ABAP 7.5, click support packages.  Down below you will find the SPs for the ABAP stack for the BPC component.  YOu must first bring the BPC component up to 7.5 before you start applying the support packages though.  I assume you already have that 7.5 component.

    I have added checks for this function call to ensure that no invalid pointer is being sent to it which could cause a segmentation violation.
    Please could someone give me some pointers on how to solve this problem, the error occurs at this point only 12 hours after running the test case..

    First step is to add the option -Xcheck:jni to your java command line. It will flag common JNI errors.
    If that doesn't identify the problem, then compile your jni code with debugging symbols (-g) and add the following option to the java command line when you run your test: -XX:+ShowMessageBoxOnError. When you hit the problem again, the VM will keep the process alive instead of calling abort(). Then you can use dbx to attach to the live process and should be able to get a better idea of what went wrong.

  • JVM core dump on Solaris

    Hi,
    I am using JDK 1.4.1_07 to run an application on Tomcat 4.1.27 on Solaris 5.8. I get a core dump on a load test. catalina.out has this line:

    The page http://java.sun.com/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi is not available. Where can I file a bug report? Any ideas on the crash?
    Thanks,
    Chandri

    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4908923.html
    See the both note, fix to this bug is not included in jdk1.4.1_07.

  • JVM Core Dump Disappear ?

    Hello everyone,
    My java program was running and all of a sudden JVM crashed. It generated a core dump file and a error log file. Somehow after couple of days the core dump file disappeared. I wanted to log onto the server to transfer the 'core' file to my PC but I could not find it anymore.
    Could someone please tell me if this is normal? I am a newbie to JVM. I don't know if JVM auto-removes the core file after a few days? Now I lost the core file and cannot find out what went wrong to cause my server crashed. Please help!
    I am running Solaris 8 & JDK_1.2.2_10.
    Thanks a bunch!!!
    Best regards,
    mjhu

    In some systems there is a policy to periodically remove all core files and corresponding actions are taken. This might or might not apply to yours.
    I also saw a system whose /tmp directory was emptied with each reboot.
    It might have even been a memory-based virtual directory, I am not sure.

    ===== END DUMP ===============================================================

    Looks like JRockit crashes when generating code for (optimizing) the method com/*****/webapp/common/util/security/Encryption.decrypt(Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/lang/String;
    You can verify this hypothesis by running with -Xnoopt or disabling optimizations for that specific method with an optfile, see the diagnostics documentation for more detail:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13188_01/jrockit/geninfo/diagnos/crash.html#wp1010427
    I suggest you update to the latest JRockit maintenance release (R27.6.5 iirc). If that doesn't help resolve this issue or you need further analysis, please open a ticket with Oracle Support.

  • JVM core dump

    JVMs crushed on my three node weblogic8.1 cluster.
    Not always happen, and can be any of the nodes.
    I tries jdk141_05,jdk141_02 and jdk142_04. There wan't any difference.
    The os is solaris 5.8. Here is the output of uname -s:
    SunOS smpc3 5.8 Generic_117350-02 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R
    I saw "Cannot access memory at address" in the gdb output. Could it be the reason?
    and how to figure out the real cause?
    Thanks!!

  • Stack overflow in JNI call

    Hi,
    I am doing a wrapper with JNI for a Windows library of image compression. I have a test program running correctly in C. This program compress data and it can move a lot of memory. If I call this program from a JNI functions I obtain a JNI error:
    An unrecoverable stack overflow has occurred.
    An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
    Unexpected Signal : EXCEPTION_STACK_OVERFLOW (0xc00000fd) occurred at PC=0x5FF88497
    Function=unpack_data+0x189D7
    Library=C:\WINDOWS\system32\NCSEcw.dll
    This error is produce inside my compression library. I try to adjust the parameters (-Xms -Xmx -Xss) of the JVM but in any case before the process ends it shows this exception. I have done other JNI interfaces and I never found with this problem before. Can anybody help me?
    Thanks in advance.

    I found in this forum a piece of code with a same kind problem but It is simpler than mine. I have proved this program in Windows and it produce the same error. In Linux it runs but if I enlarge the array largebuf it ends with the same error. In Linux I can reserve until 2 MB (in windows +-256K). Is there any way to increase the stack size in a jni call?.
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <jni.h>
    #include "test.h"
    int myprint2(int a, int b){
         char extrabuf[100];
         printf("got here next\n");
         extrabuf;
         return 0;
    int myprint(int a, int b){
         char largebuf[260000];
         printf("got here\n");
         myprint2(1,1);
         largebuf;
         return 0;
    JNIEXPORT jint JNICALL Java_test_init(JNIEnv *env, jobject obj){
         myprint(1,1);
         return 1;
    test.java
    public class test{
         public native int init();
         public static void main(String []args){
              new test();
         public test(){
              System.loadLibrary("Nat");
              System.out.println(this.init());

  • Analyzing core dumps generated by JVM

    I have an application written in Java that is crashing with JVM core dumps. All debug symbols have been installed but since the default build of JDK doesn't have Java binary with debug information, it is difficult to nail down the problem. gdb shows ?? for method calls. Are there any debug builds available for JDK 6u33 on Linux? From what I understand, the code base for OpenJDK 6 is different from Oracle's JDK releases so the chances of openjdk debug build having same symbol information are fairly low. Any help or direction is greatly appreciated.

    VisualVM allows you to compare two memory snapshots obtained from VisualVM's lightweight memory profiler.
    Have a look at the VisualVM user's guide on visualvm.dev.java.net for more detailed info.

    Can you please help what is causing problem in the applications. Thanks in advanced.

    This forum is about C programming in general, and about using Oracle Studio C in particular.
    Your question seems to be about a database application that now crashes when run on an updated version of Oracle database.
    You mention "Proc" and ProC". If you are referring to the Pro*C compiler, that would also be a database question, since the Pro*C compiler is not related to Oracle Studio or Oracle Studio C.
    You are more likely to find a helpful answer in a database programming forum. Start here:

  • Stack overflow error while creating connection using Oracle10G dirver

    Hi,
    Our web application built on Servlets runs on the iPlanet web server (In solaris machine). Earlier we used JDK 1.5 update 6 with oracle 9i driver and now got migrated to JDK 1.5 update 10 with same driver. Everything went fine until we started testing the environment with oracle 10G driver. Java 1.5 update 10 with oracle 10G driver throws "Stack overflow error".
    Driver version is - 10.2.0.2.0
    This occurs only when I access the portal. When I created the single main program and try to run it in the solaris machine it works fine. But wen I try to access the portal keeping this driver under classpath, it fails. Please let me know if anyone have any clues.
    When I looked into it, I am able to find that the "stack overflow error" occurs at the point the code line DriverManager.Getconnection("url", "username", "pwd") executes.
    Thanks in advance

    Yes, request goes through connection pool but weird
    thing is application throws stack excatly where
    DriverManager.getConnection gets executed.
    Not weird at all.
    This is what I am guessing that you did. You changed the driver and some other stuff, like configuration information.
    Then when it blew up you tracked down in your code where you see the stack overflow. That happens to be on the connection line. That is not where the overflow 'occurs' - it merely represents where you saw it.
    That line however isn't using the oracle driver. What it is using is a connection pool of some sort. That connection pool is configured somewhere. And that configuration is self-referential (or maybe refers to a another driver which refers back to the original.)
    And that causes you stack over flow.

  • Light-locker core dumps

    Per this suggestion to uninstall xscreensaver and install light-locker, I decided to give this a whirl using the latest xfce4 packages.  I find light-locker core dumping when I try to use it.  Anyone else?
    % light-locker
    process 1737: arguments to dbus_message_new_method_call() were incorrect, assertion "path != NULL" failed in file dbus-message.c line 1340.
    This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.
    D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace
    [1] 1737 abort (core dumped) light-locker
    EDIT: this has nothing to do with the xfce4 packages in [testing].  I get the same error using 4.10 from [extra].

    I installed this and tried it on 2 separate laptops for you and got the same error on both.  One has testing and community testing repository enabled and the other doesn't but exactly the same error on both.  Newbie to linux but hope that helps.
