K3b transcode issues

I'm trying to rip an encrypted dvd with k3b. When I first installed k3b with pacman I think it missed transcode as a dependency because when I tried to rip it said it needed it and to make sure it's installed. So I installed it and finally started ripping but half way through I got an error. Here is the debug log (I couldn't paste the entire log because chrome would crash when I tried, guess it's to much. So I have pasted just what I think is important, if anything else is needed just ask.):

I tried googling this issue but it seems to be pretty specific to me. I did find would result but it was with another program for windows so I didn't read to much into that. Do any of you have any ideas?

I think that unlike some mswin progs, k3b reports honest values for speed, and this is as likely pegged to the quality of media than anything else.
Just a theory of course.
Anyway, what we all want is a good burn, regardless if it's slower ...
But what else is around apart from k3b?  I used xcdroast in years gone by, but I don't see it around so much anymore.  What are some good alternatives?

  • Latest Media Encoder CC 7.2 fixes the transcode issue in Encore CS6

The latest version of Adobe Media Encoder prevents the issue of transcoding Blue-Ray files when importing them in Encore CS6 http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2013/12/adobe-media-encoder-cc-7-2-december-2013-updat e.html

This is very good news for CC users.
The PR update is also now announced:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5925060#5925060
The list of bug fixes does not mention this issue.
There have been some differences in how processing occurs between exporting from PR vs queuing to AME. Do we know that the export is fixed for either type of export?

  • More Transcoding Issues

Having read seemingly all there has been posted about this old chestnut I am just about at buffers end.
    The issue:
Clip shot using Sony Z5: Premiere Pro CS4. Edited 1440x1080i (or should I say a one-minute clip on an HDV 1440x1080i timeline in order to eliminate anything else). Similar test using Sony NX5 on an AVCHD 1920x1080i timeline - same result: Encore INSISTS it wants to transcode the Asset even though I ask it not to. I am using only Adobe CS4 codecs and not using any third party stuff here - it's all in house within Adobe Production Premium CS4.
    Okay, the Settings:
    1. Export Media from Prem Pro Option:
Export my small clip using MPEG-2 Blu Ray setting creates a video .mv2 file.
I create an Encore project using 1440x1080i setting - Blu Ray MPEG-2. I set transcode setting to a modest 20mb/s.
Project created I then import the .2mv file created by AME.
In projects it says untranscoded - automatic. I CANNOT get it to not transode no mmatter how much I right click on the asset and tell it otherwise in the properties.
I have used versions with or without Dolby Digital AC3 and PCM - no difference - Encore wants to transode my clip.
    2. Send to Encore using Dynamic LInk:
The same - still will not allow me to select "Don't Transcode" even though the option is shown - Encore just ignores it.
Same scenario using a 1920x1080i clip using an AVCHD timeline and appropriate Adobe settings.
Somthing is not quite right with Encore considering all my files are being generated within Adobe and CS4. As a result, Encore re-encodes a file which I am led to believe should be compatible with my Asset.
Oh, by the way - same thing with the H.264 setting when I have an Exported file via AME using the H.264 Blu Ray option - Encore simply wants to re-encode.
I have ONE clip of less than one minute - captured as a .m2t from HDV Split (because Adobe doesn't split scenes does it?). No effects, no renders.
And for the AVCHD timeline I am using a .m2ts file imported from the Sony NX5 via the Sony Content Management front end. Same again, no effects or renders.
Beginning to think there is something quite amiss with Encore. Looks like it transcodes whether you like it or not to fit standards which appear not to be produced elsewhere in the software.

No other user want to comment? Guess the thinking is:
    1. We're sick of answering this.
    2. No-one else has an issue.
    3. Hot Potato.
    4. Girl doesn't know what she's doing.
    Sigh... thanks people.

  • Prelude CC's October Release...Any hope for our THREE ingest & transcoding issues?

    Hi!
Any idea if Prelude has addressed any of the THREE issues in the upcoming October release??
We'd really love to use Prelude to ingest and transcode footage going forward but right now we're limited in what we can do so sadly we continue to have to use FCP's Log & Transfer.
Here's a quick recap of the Issues that were discussed and detailed in THIS thread:
#1) Add Renaming options...namely the ability to use "Shot Time"  since event shooters often have hundreds of clips from the same date and multiple cards with the same shot name.
#2) Ability to batch transcode hundreds of clips to ProRes while keeping the various native frame rates and resolutions (ala FCP's Log & Transfer method).
#3) Fix the fact that in the INGEST window when you swipe it goes the opposite way. Small but annoying little issue.
I look forward to your response!
    Thanks!

Looks like #1 didn't make the cut for Prelude 2.1  Bummer.
Still curious if #1 on the list above is on the upcoming road map for Prelude to make the transcoding/renaming feature actually useful for event shooters?
The "Shot Time" is already built into the metadata that's displayed on the LIST VIEW of the clips in Prelude...but we can't use it when renaming clips. Shot date is pointless for event shooters when all the clips are in one day. Shot name is pointless because we'll end up with several cards all with the same file names on each card and renaming hundreds of clips one by one would be a nightmare.
    Thanks.

  • FCP X Generator from Motion Transcode issue

    Please help!!
I have created a FCP Generator in Motion 5. However it would not transcode. All the other generators prior to and subsequent have transcoded and are violable for me to work with in FCPX. Can I try and retrieve the work?
I can see the project in the saved Motion folder but cannot get Motion to reopen it.
Can I try and retrieve the work?

Have you checked to see if you have a version available in your autosave vault? Go to ~/Movies/Motion Projects/Autosave Vault/ and see if there is a good copy of your project there.

  • Encore CS6 Transcode issues

In previous versions of Encore, selecting "Automatic" for the transcode solution on my DVD has always given me the best possible transcode to fit all the video I had prepared onto the disc. In this version, the "automatic" solution gave me the highest transcode available for an NTSC DVD, and ultimately left me with three times too-much data for my disc. I had to manually create a transcode setting at a bitrate that would allow me to fit all my video onto the disc (only two hours, so certainly not too much for a DVD). Anybody know why the change in behavior with the "automatic" transcode option? It's rather frustrating because it was so quick and easy to just set it at automatic and know that Encore was handling it properly to give me the best balance between quality and quantity for the disc.
Also, where do we go now to select whether to use Encore or AME for transcoding? That option appears to be gone from the preferences menu... In previous versions I experienced faster transcode times using AME over Encore, and would like to continue doing that.

Can you give some more details about your project. The project size, duration. Also did you compare it with CS5.1 Automatic settings? How much is the difference betwen the two?
Also, to use AME for transcoding from Encore in CS6 -
    Mac -
Goto Encore->Preferences->General and select the check box " Transcode assets using Adobe Media Encoder aaplication"
    Win -
Goto Edit - >Preferences->General and select the check box " Transcode assets using Adobe Media Encoder aaplication"

  • *Sigh* :(  Transcoding issues.

    Howdy all,
Firstly, I would greatly appreciate anyones help.
Me and my colleagues have been working on this project
and problem after problem we have figured out by ourself,
but this problem has seemed to stump us all -
We are creating a project to be built into a DVD. After finally finishing it,
we tried to burn it to disc, it did that successfully. However, there was a
'squeaking'/'static' noise throughout all the audio. (except the intro.. that was a song)
To solve this, we simply imported the video/audio seperatly.
Most of the items are imported sequences from premiere pro, we have the cs4 suite.,
and also Avi files that were exported.
The video in perfect quality, except for when there is movement. Whenever someone moves
there is a slight blur that follows them. I have tried time and time again to transcode the main footage,
encore does,  transcode it, but only the video, then it continues onto the audio and, because we seperated it
and imported it individually, there is no audio, and encore just keeps saying its still transcoding.
So the problem that we face now is,
    1. Encore will not transcode the main footage..
    2. The quality of the footage is great, except when burnt to disc,
then it is greatly depreciated (must be because of the transcoding settings?)
    3. I thought that perhaps ignoring the transformation of the main footage
and just building it to disc, would do something, after mucking around with the settings..
Encore replied saying that the project is now too big to fit on the disc, which is ridiculous
I realise that you kind members of the community will need more infornmation on this,
so please, just ask for what you need and I'll supply it to the best of my ability .
Me and my colleages have been sitting at the computer for a week now scratching our heads.
I thought it would be around time to ask the pro's
Thank you so so so much for any help / infomation. I really need it
    Kind regards,
    Luke & Larissa.

    @Stan Jones
    Thanks for your responce.
The video that we first imported before seperating them was just a basic PrPro sequence.
The video used in that project was Mpeg-2 and the audio was 48000hz stereo 16bit.
Once we seperated them, we imported the video as a PrePro sequence, and
went to into PrePro and exported the audio as an Avi file and imported as an asset, which seemed to fix our first
problem of squeaking and static in the built DVD.
    @Jeff Bellune
    1. Yes, we reverted to original prior to transcoding again, we also went to the transcoded folder and deleted
    the transcode files.
2.The PrePro sequence settings are DV Pal Widescreen 25fps
    3. The transcode settings we last tried using were set to custom with the following setting
    For movie files:
    MPEG2-DVD
Pal DV High Quality 4 MB VBR 2 Pass
All other setting were left as default
    For Audio
Same settings as for video with Dolby Digital
We are just self taught and really just guessing what transcode settings to use so if we should be using something else please advise.
    @Bill Hunt
Thanks for the info, we'll be sure to try these settings.
Thanks for all your responces, we are going to follow stan's advice and try a whole new project first.
If there is anymore problems we'll be sure to post them here, thanks in advance.

  • Transcoding Issue?

I recently purchased Final Cut Express 4 and installed it on my MacBook Pro, into which I recently had installed a new 500 GB HDD and MacOS 10.6.
A friend asked me to upload a sample of some video I shot (in DV) via FTP to a server. I'm in the USA and he's in Europe so that's the fastest way to get it to him.
What options do I have with QuickTime X to transcode this video to a decent-quality, standard-def format? He suggested H.264.

There is no answer to this. Maximum quality and minimum size is a contradiction. You have to balance the two. There is no one size fits all answer. It's dependent on far too many factors starting with the content, how easy or difficult is it to compress, how much media you have to compress, how fast an upload and download can you and your client support. These are just a few of the things you need to consider. Generally H.264 produces good results, but with a lot of video you have to use higher data rates and that drives up the size of the file. Also consider what size you want it to be reducing the size and frame rate, if that's an option for your content, can reduce the file size considerably and give you potentially higher data rates for better image quality.

  • [SOLVED] logitechmediaserver transcoding issue

logitechmediaserver is working fine on my server for serving music on my stereo (mainly FLAC and MP3 files).
Yesterday I tried to stream music through 3g to my Android smartphone using SqueezePlayer. To save on data consumption I limited the bitrate for the player to 128 kbps (through Player Audio settings on logitechmediaserver config).
I can play MP3s fine through SqueezePlayer. With MP3 files > 128 kbps a ps aux|grep lame shows that lame is launched to reencode the stream to 128 K bitrate.
However with other files (FLAC or even OGG) I have no luck. The file does not even play. I have checked File Types configuration : Stream Format Decoder for FLAC -> MP3 is set to flac/lame. Looks like flac decoding on the server does not work. Found nothing in the server log.

    I solved this issue.
The logitechmediaserver package from AUR comes with its own flac binary as well as others in /opt/logitechmediaserver/Bin/i386-linux.

These are 32 bits binaries. In order to use these on a x86_64 ArchLinux, one has to enable multilib repository (if not already done) and then install some 32 bits compatibility libraries:
    pacman -S lib32-glibc
    pacman -S lib32-gcc-libs
    Et voilà :-)

  • Transcoding issues

    Hi,
I have exported movs of animations from flash that look nice in their mov. format but once transcoded in encore the quality deteriorates drastically. Anyone know a good setting that should keep the best quaility of my animations for DVD?

Several of the animation artists, with whom I work, provide me .MOV (Animation CODEC) files, sized to DV and these work very nicely.
    Good luck,

  • Consistently bad transcode

Hi everyone, I'm having some transcoding issues I was hoping you could help me with.
I have a 30 minute film, shot on 35mm that I'm trying to get onto DVD (and eventually Blu-ray).  I have a DPX sequence of those film scans, which I have transcoded in AE into an Uncompressed Quicktime.  I've imported that Uncompressed Quicktime directly into Encore, and let Encore handle the transcoding to MPEG2 with the default settings.  The DVD includes only a single timeline with the single Quicktime in it.  No menus or anything like that.
The film looks great - as one would hope having shot on 35mm film - but the end-result DVD looks terrible.  It looks very compressy, especially in any shadowy/dark areas.  The movie is a fairly dark supernatural/horror type, and to boot features an entirely black cast.  So these compressy shadows are absolutely killing me.  Also, I'm fairly certain the issue is happening in the QT to MPEG transcoding process, since the Quicktime from the DPX looks great.
Is there any specific transcode settings you could recommend?  Any smarter way to do this in order to get a higher quality image?
Any help you could offer would be so appreciate.  I've worked really really hard on making this film look fantastic, and to loose image quality so drastically on the very last step of the process is making me go crazy.  Thanks!

Leave QuickTime out of it.  There can sometimes be gamma issues using it.
    Create an AVI file instead.
If you're adventurous, you might also explore using the free HC Encoder to create the MPEG.  It has more configurability than the included Adobe encoder, and frankly does a better overall job.

  • Encore CS3 - Hangs While Transcoding.

    Hello all,
Thanks for your time reading over this issue I am experiencing with Adobe Encore CS3 (ver 3.01.008).
I have had an intermittent problem with Encore for a long time, involving the transcoding process. The only way I have been able to get over this hurdle is to use a friend's machine for the 'building process' in Encore CS4. But, I have faith that Encore CS3 isn't a waste of a product, and would love to have this issue fixed.
I am currently producing a dual-layer DVD, that will host up to 42 timelines. I can successfully plan the entire project, linking menus to links, links to timelines etc. The only issue I encounter is when I transcode all of my assets before building the DVD disc. I am able to transcode about 80% of my assets successfully - after that - Encore will cease to carry out the transcoding process as it should.
For example, after transcoding about 80% of all the assets, Encore will start transcoding one more asset, transcoding it's video and audio streams, but then ceases to 'import' it back into the project as a transcoded asset. It will simply 'hang' on the 'importing' process. I have tried encoding single untranscoded assets since this issue arose, but each individual, remaining, untranscoded asset will hang (ie, does not show any activity in Task Manager in either CPU usage, or Memory usage) while 'importing' in the transcoding process.
Any help would be hugely appreciated, and I will try to provide you with as much information as possible to assist me.
    I am currently running on:
Win7 x64 RC1 (This issue has also happened to me in Vista x64)
    Athlon X2 64 3800+ 2.0Ghz
2GB DDR400 << (I understand this is a very little amount of memory in comparison to what most users will have, but I have been able to create other large Encore CS3 projects in the past just fine. I believe that my issue as stated above is not caused by my hardware configuration)
Four HDDs, each with at least 200GB free on each
No, I do not have Nero on my machine, and any previous installations have been clean-sweeped off the machine using Nero's CleanSweep tool.
I am also running Encore CS3 in administrator mode.
Cheers, thanks again for your time.
    - Andrew

    Andrew,
Though it sounds too late to help with Encore, there are a couple of things to think about. That 80% Transcoding issue throws up a few possibilities to me:
1.) heat buildup in the CPU - Transcoding is very CPU intensive
2.) power supply not up to the task, or going bad
3.) HDD filling up to a critical point - that slowdown and then hang could be a sign of this, as HDD's loose a good deal of their efficiency near the 75% full point, and will shut down, as 100% is approached.
4.) something in the Project at about that point?
    5.) something else entirely
Good luck, and happy authoring, regardless of which program you use.

  • Transcode and downres 4K to 1080

Some questions here about working with 4K. I almost feel I should know the answers myself but I’ve not yet found clear guidance – any input gratefully received.
I work entirely in 1080 timelines, on FCP7.
Increasingly, there’s footage available now in 2.7 and 4K, from cameras like the GoPro4, and I’ve been making various test shoots.
My workflow has been to transcode the GoPro h264 to ProRes, and at the same time downres to 1080.
Here’s where the problem arises. After the transcode/downres, what looked like very clean and crisp footage in its native form has developed an unnacceptable amount of noise.
I’ve tried the conversion via both Compressor and Streamclip, and the effect is just the same.
Is this something to do with ‘squeezing’ 4K of data down into a smaller frame – or is there some other mistake I’m making?
My other question is to do with getting the best out of the 4K – even putting this transcode issue to one side.
I can really see the potential of cropping into the 4K frame and resizing – but how do I do that given that I’m working in a 1080 environment – therefore the 4K material is going to render down in any case. Is this an issue with still working in FCP7, that FCPX is supposed to get over?
    FCP7 7.0.3   MacPro 10.9.5  2x2.66 /6core/ 12G RAM  Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme2

I use the 2.7k material from a GoPro all the time edited into 720p forms and don't see deterioration - other than there are simply fewer pixels to describe the scene.
My work flow is to copy the files off the card to a folder on my edit hard drive, open GoPro Studio, bring in the material, apply the ProTune preset (I usually shoot raw) then export as ProRes.
Once in FCP, make sure you have turned off "automatically resize to fit current settings". If you haven't done this, you can still open up the clip that has been resized and, in the Motion Tab of the viewer, change the scale back to 100%. This will allow you to move the image around and use whatever portion you choose.

  • Audio stereo signal split into 3 or 4 stereo audio signals (in one single clip)?

    Hi,
facing massice transcoding issues when exporting a project I had to analyse the involved video/audioclips...
and found out that for some of the video clips the audio signals have been split into even 3 or 4 complementary stereo channels.
Note: Each channel contains just a part of the original signal. This is obviously due to cutting action ...
What can I do? I have no clue!
    My question:
How to get one single stereo audio signal (2 channels) out of this mess?
    Thanx big time,
    Oliver

Assuming we're talking about shorter takes and not a longer, spanned clip, I don't think what you want can be done in PP.  Nesting will always bring the audio over as one track.
You may have to skim the clip sequence in the Program Monitor and copy/paste the portions you want to use into a second sequence for output.  This will preserve the audio.

  • FCP 7 Finished Project Seq from 60fps to 23.98 fps

    Thank you in advance.
I've been editing for a company which had transcoding issues with source footage recently, and long story short I had to re-encode all of the footage to the proper settings before editing, which is:
    23.98 fps / Frame size: 960 x 720 / compressor DVCPRO HD 720p60/30/24 / pixel aspect HD (960x720).
During this process, probably when first noticing that something was very wrong with the footage, my main sequence was set to 59.94 fps, I did not notice until the project was 95% complete.
So now I have an entire video finished at 59.94 fps, it won't let me convert the sequence to 23.98, and even when it does all of the transitions and so forth are in 60 fps mode (which is how I discovered the frame rate very late, why is a 4 frame transition so fast??).
This is essentially an offline edit and when I drop the project folder I need to reconnect all of the properly transcoded footage which is 23.98 fps.  I am anticipating some major issues here, but at least the files should reconnect, I just don't know about the sequence ever changing from 60 fps.  I'd really appreciate any suggestions.
    Thank you!

What you are going to have to do is make a new sequence that matches the settings you want. If they are to match a clip setting, then make a new sequence, drop a clip into it, and say YES when it asks if you want it to match. Otherwise, choose the easy setup you want and then make a new sequence.
Then, copy and paste ALL of the clips from the 60fps sequence into the 23.98 sequence.  Gaps between cuts will appear sporatically. These will need to be manually fixed. No way around this.  It'll take a while, but this is what you need to do.
