K7N2 Delta-L mem compatibility

I am wondering if anyone knows if my mobo would work with a PDP/Patriot stick of 1GB DDR400.
Any help would be appreciated.

No, it could very well work or it may not, but it's not on the support list. That means it is not one they recommend.
Cheers
Edit: There are 1Gb sticks on the list, look more carefully. http://www.nvidia.com/content/nForceMemoryCompatability/lstnForceMemoryCompatibility.asp

• Please help - K7N2 delta-L upgrade compatibility?

Hello there,
Having perused the forms for a while in research I know my appeal will not fall on deaf ears. I'm about to buy a new mobo, CPU, vid card and RAM and would be eternally grateful for an OK as regards memory issues etc.
I'd like:
MSI K7N2- Delta L
Duron 1.6 GHz
Geforce4 MMX 400 64MB
256 Crucial PC3200
But I've heard the mobo is picky about both the memory and Duron CPUs. Would getting the latest driver solve the CPU problem and would this RAM work? I'm a newbie but would like to get into overclocking eventually. With this in mind, what should I look for in RAM? CL? I will drop in an XP 2500+ eventually and another stick of RAM for the dual channel goodness!
Many thanks.

I get the exact same temperatures, 60'C max load though. I don't see it as a problem since I live in Greece and right now the temperature outside is a good 40'C ! During the winter the temps (cpu, case and outside ) drop a lot (don't know how much since I only built my system about a month ago).
For me, under these circumstances, the best cooling option if I want to further drop my temps, is turn on the airconditioner in my room !

PLS help.. I´m losing the grip :-)

Hello there...
The exact same thing is happening to me!!
I have upgraded the BIOS today hoping for the best but I was dissapointed to experience the same thing.
It appears that when the CPU is really pushed to the limit, the computer just freezes. When I play any mame32 emulator the CPU usage reaches 100%. And then the computer crashes.. I was forced to underclock the CPU from 2800+ to 2200+. But now its happening again! When I tried to set the CPU back to 2800+ and surf the internet the pc crushed in the first flash web site. (CPU reached about 40% to play the flash video...).
I haven't found a solution yet and I am so desperate.. I've tried the same things as you did (upgrade BIOS, memtest, disconnect and reconnect everything, etc etc) which were proposed solutions in other threads.. but nothing.. and I am still running underclocked!(2200+). I have tried a number of different BIOS settings (memory run at 400, 333, 266, 200 also tried with different CAS 2,2.5,3) (1x512 corsair pc3200 cas 2) but the system would freeze sooner or later no matter the changes.  My temperature is a little bit high but always when I am testing my CPU I increase the speed of the fan to maximum (5400) so it is not possible to be a temperature problem (have set the warning beep to 66 oC and it never beeps..) .
If you find a solution PLEASE post it here ASAP!!
Cheers..

• K7N2 Delta-L Compatibility Issues HELP

I am currently building a system to use as a development server. Here are all the parts I have used.
K7N2 Delta L Motherboard
AMD Athlon 2800+ 333 FSB
PowMax Case 400W Power Supply
Western Digital HD 80GB UDMA 100 7200 RPM
Western Digital HD 20GB UDMA 100 7200 RPM
Plextor PX-W5224TA BLACK CDRW
ATI Radeon 9000 64MB AGP 4x
VOLCANO 7+ RT Fan to replace standard Athlon Fan
I have assembled the entire system but have run into a road block. I get the BLUE SCREEN of death everytime I try to install the system. I have double checked all jumpers on every piece of hardware. I have also double checked everything in my BIOS, which is at the current version. I have also disable and swaped hardware to narrow the problem.
I still got the error message. Naturally I assumed it was now the RAM. I started with a Kingston HyperX KHX2700/512 module. I put in in the second DIMM slot. I then went out and bougth another Kingston Module KVR333/512. Still the same error. I then tried slower RAM, PNY PC2100 512 Module. All modules placed in the second DIMM. I even tried moving them to the first DIMM slot. Again the same problem.
With the Kingston memory the FSB/DRAM ration was 1:1 and the FSB was set to 166mhz. I have found numerious posts in this forum and tried them all. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Any and all help is appreciated.
I think it's either my RAM choice or PSU. Here are the schematics for the PSU.
+5v 30a max
-12v 0.8a max
-5v 0.3a max
+12v 25a max
+3.3v 28a max+5sb 2.0a max
I have plugged in the 12v cpu power supply as well. System and Bios cache disabled. I have tried installing Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP Pro. No luck on any.

Hi,
Brownman: Although disabling APIC seems to have solved your problem, it may come back and bite you on the a**. The APIC option in the BIOS gives your OS 22 (or 23 I forget which) IRQ addresses for different pieces of hardware you install. With APIC disabled you are restricted to 16 IRQ's (0-15) if you install a lot of new hardware in the future, you may run out of IRQ's. If you are installing XP it's also a good idea to install it with PNP OS disabled in the BIOS.
BTW, you didn't have an "Active" cable connected to your NIC card while you were installing XP? If this is the case you should unplug it - this can stop an XP install dead in it's tracks.

• K7N2 Delta-L Nforce2 System compatibility

Hi,
I'm thinking of building a system with the following components;
MSI K7N2 Delta-L Nforce2 Motherboard
AMD Duron 1.8GHz
Crucial 256MB DDR PC2700
Asus ATI Radeon 9200SE/T 64MB
Akasa AK-825 Air-Cooled Copper Base Carnival Cooler
I'm on a very limited Budget and this is about as far as I can stretch it. Can anybody see any potential problems with this setup - or suggest better suited components for similar price?
I was going to build the system with the older KT4V Ultra Motherboard (I have a system happily using this board at the moment) but I was advised NForce 2 is a much better option.
Many Thanks for your time,
AT.

If you buy the ram directly from crucial and use the memory selcetor it should be very stable.
I have bought from crucial 3 times and I have been very pleased.
How much are you spending on the duron cpu? as it may not be a good buy.
VERY IMPORTANT
1) The duron has a 133mhz FSB therefore getting PC2700 ram is pointless as the CPU cannot use the extra bandwidth. So you can SAVE MORE MONEY by getting PC2100 RAM and still have the same performance.
2) The nforce 2 is a better buy and when you buy the ram make sure you get
2 sticks of 128mb PC2xxx, this is to use the DUAL channel memory feature.
For better performance.

>only thing I can tell is that the d bracket is indicating "memory section"
....d-bracket from MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR is 1,3,4 red and 2 green. Which is according the the manual "Memory Detection Test"-if the memory module is damaged or not installed properly.
Why woudl a memory suddenly not work?
I know I was adjusting bios for this and that....
I think just before this happened.. I adjusted something on agp setting... but what ahs that got to do with memory?
COuld it be the mobo or memory or the video card???

• Data corruption on MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR

Hi all,
Just got my new MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR up and running.
Got some issues with the memory running at 200mhz while the Barton core of my Athlon Xp 2600+ was running 166mhz, this had to be 1:1 (thx forum  )
While running the default bios settings with cpu/mem at 166/166 fsb everything is stable as hell. I have been running Prime95 for 2 days now and using the system for dvd ripping/encoding, UT2004 gaming etc.
Then the overclocking began   I'm using the standard AMD cooler that came with my boxed Xp2600+ so I didn't expect an FSB of 200mhz.
I stopped at an FSB of 190mhz...been crunching Prime95 for 18 hours now and again very stable.
Now comes the problem : Sometimes I get crc errors when installing a game or decrypting a dvd!! But how can this be? Prime95 is stable at this 190fsb overclock.
When using an FSB of 166mhz no data corruption or crc errors.
What can this be? It's not the cables because they're all the same as in my old setup which was running (ahum...walking) stable. PCI/AGP speeds are locked when overclocking...
Only thing I can think of is the power supply. I've read in a warning post from Bas that the Q-Tec 550w psu I have is crap. So my guess is PSU, but maybe it's something else I'm forgetting...Any suggestions??
The stupid thing is when I'm not overclocking I don't have the data corruption problems, but I'm still using the same crappy Q-Tec 550w PSU.
Help!
gr,
Remco

Hmmm, that's curious. On the MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR product page Kingston memory is recommended
Ok, did a Memtest86 v1.11 pass at cpu/dimm 166/166 - no problems whatsoever. I think using Prime95 would have revealed memory problems...but will do another pass with cpu/dimm at 190/190.
Can overclocking affect the Promise Raid Controller?? It should be locked like the PCI/AGP but who knows...
Well, I still have to replace my PSU but I'm not 100% sure that this is the problem. What PSU would you recommend? ...and I'm also thinking about replacing the standard CPU cooler, any advice is welcome

• PNY and MSI K7N2 Delta - ILSR

Looking into buying the K7N2 Delta-ILSR...I have heard that it is a awesome overclocker, and a very fast board.  Has anyone had experience with using...
PNY Optima PC2700 DDR memory on it?  It is double sided memory, with Hynix chips.  Hynix chips are listed on MSI's Memory Compatibility PDF...but i wanted to know if anyone has used it before?  Thanks

Its not tehre, but it does use Hynix chips, which IS supported.  I also have read in this forum that people have got my exact memory to work flawlessly on the board i want.  Thanks anyway!

• MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR Nforce2 (Socket A) Motherboard (MB-003-MS) Features NF2 chip

I tried to install 3 of the Crucial Ballistix Tracer (1 Gig Each) in this motherboard (MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR Nforce2 (Socket A) Motherboard (MB-003-MS) Features NF2 chipset) and it will not run stabilly no matter what I tried. Is this a bios conflict with the memory? If so, are there any new bios updates? I have tried cas settings and voltage settings but nothing works. It will how ever run perfectly with only 2 sticks in single channel mode. It will not run same 2 sticks in dual channel mode. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone know of any new motherboards with maybe NFORCE 4 Chipset that support all 3 sticks of this memory and an AGP graphics card? Im thinking of a new motherboard but I still need to have AGP and SATA.
Barton 3200 core proc.
System has ran fine for a solid year until I tried new memory. Please help!

Ok I tried to use relaxed FSB by -10 and relaxed mem timings but still unstable due to the motherboard trying to use dual channel memory. If you can modify the bios to where it will not have the capability of dual channel memory I truly believe it will work. Will u try this for me? I would greatly appreciate it as I am really not ready to spend all the money on new equipemtn when this suits my needs for now.
sure but as i said before this is gona be experimental and risky. Here we go:
MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR Experimental MOD E1(Disable Dual CH ability)
Procedure is automated in best possible safest way to BIOS update.
Prepare a blank diskette in a good condition(newest one etc.)
]execute file under XP will make bootdisk with automated BIOS update procedure. when diskette is ready, reboot PC and boot from FDD(floppy), wait a bit, then you will be asked for final confirmation about BIOS update process, press a key to proceed, after BIOS update is complete, ensure that you got successfully output message from flash program. then power down your PC, remove power cord from the PSU, hit power button several time to drain caps electrify, touch with hands some metal for ES discharge, and Clear CMOS.
pull back power cord, power up your PC, when you see CMOS checksum error,(expected msg) hit F1 to continue to re-build DMI pool data, then reboot and enter in BIOS, LOAD BIOS DEFAULT, and SAFE AND EXIT.
NOTE: Ensure your PC is stable before proceed with BIOS update.
NOTE: Use it at own risk, chance of failure is big, cannot guarantee results and safest as provisional mode which can guarantee it will work stable with features. also cannot test it personally before give you. (don't have mobo anymore)
Using it may end with dead mainboard (BIOS chip re-flash will be required, if somethink goes wrong)

• K7N2 Delta - hope this is of some help

M/B K7N2 Delta - ILSR
AMD XP 3200+
CORSAIR XMS 2 x 256mb DDR400
ATI 9600XT
2 x 200GB MAXTORS
450 w PSU
I've had several years experience in building my own PC's, and I suppose like everyone else I've learnt some expensive lessons.  At the moment I've got several PC's all with AMD's ranging from XP 2100 - 3200+
2 Abit m/b, 2 Asus m/b and the latest one, which is the MSI Delta
This is the first time I've tried an MSI m/b and I have to say I've never known a board as twitchy as this when it comes to setting the FSB and DRAM timings.
When I first setup a m/board I don't, as a rule, adjust anything in the BIOS just to see how things bootup.  For the test I also attach a spare hard drive with a basic windows XP setup and very little else.  This helps me to observe how windows responds to the new motherboard - if there are any compatibility problems at this stage then windows will soon tell you in no uncertain terms with the dreaded blue screen messages.  And believe you me I've had plenty of them with this motherboard.
Not only have the blue screens appeared but I've lost count of the number of times this system has either crashed out on me or reset itself for no apparent reason.
Right then, my first port of call was the BIOS........hmmm, everything looked fine the system was on auto, the CPU FSB Clock showed 200Mhz and the DRAM clock also showed 200.  I switched the memory timings to manual because I wanted to change the CAS latency to 2.5, which I knew was the correct setting for the CORSAIR memory with an AMD cpu.
Next stop was to check all the cacheable stuff just in case the AwardBIOS was making too many assumptions which it sometimes does.
Tweaked a few other settings, but nothing that would have a drastic effect.
All this of course was to no avail, as the same problems kept happening.
Next step was to check for any BIOS update, and yes, as look would have it, MSI had brought out version 7.7, which I installed immediately.
During the process of updating the BIOS I noticed a message appeared saying, updating  DDR timings (interesting I thought, had MSI realised they had a problem).
Again all this was to no avail of course.  So I decided to tweak the CPU FSB Clock speed and started increasing it one step at a time, which only made matters worse and eventually I had to reset everything with the jumpers on the m/b.  So I turned to decreasing the speed and after some trial & error I finally got the system stable at 192Mhz. Of course this also effects the speed of the DRAM clock which now runs at 382.  Not quite what I expected but I suppose I should be happy that my system is still running.
Let's hope MSI continue to release BIOS updates which may evetually improve their timings !!
My condolences to all who suffer with MSI blues
Truly yours

Hi there,
My network was working fine yesterday but now whenever I plug a cable into the onboard network card, my computer starts having these strange flucuations...Every few seconds the CPU usage jumps from 0% to about 50% which causes the system to freeze for a second, making it a real pain to do anything.
Does anyone have any idea whats causing this?

Further, I'd like to buy another 512 M stick and honestly it seems more sensible to me to mount two equal sticks. And I feel somewhat stuck...
a memory can be incompatible but still work.
alot of people buy any memory they can and throw in and it may work.
but it can start crashing after installing some program or updating bios or drivers.
thats the reason i posted the memtest program.
worry about a crash....no reason for that as you self said memtest reported no errors prime95 no errors and doom3 worked good.
kingston uses many different chips on their memory and its those chips that is the problem.
one guy found out that on the specific memory he bought kingston used 3 different chips on.
only 1 of them worked good on k7n2.
so a 33% chans of success in getting a good module is considered bad.
so write down the numbers on the chips and take it with you to the store and compare it to the memories they got.

• Mixing Ram with different CAS latencies in K7n2 Delta-L?

I have been using 512mb Kingston Value Ram in my computer, pc3200, with CAS latency of 3.0.   I just purchased some Corsair value select 512mb ram pc3200 with CAS latency of 2.5.   I know you are not supposed to mix ram with different speeds (like 400 vs. 333) but does it matter if the CAS latencies are different?
I'm running an AMD XP 1800+, K7n2 delta-L, nforce2 motherboard from MSI.  Someone at a computer shop told me they tried mixing Kingston 3.0 CAS with Corsair 2.5 CAS, and said his computer wouldn't even post.  So I'm wondering if this is an isolated problem, or you will always run into this problem if you mix ram with different CAS latencies.
If anyone has experience with this issue, please share with the board.  Thanks!
Chris

The age old question, will the components I bought be compatible ? There are those that have bought identical matching memory that didn't work. In my case, I had an ECS K7S5A that used PC2100 Crucial memory, the sticks neither matched (at one time they did, but one stick died and they sent me the closest thing they had.). Neither of these Crucial sticks was identified by a configurator as being compatible with the K7N2 Delta L that I decided to buy. In the end, not only did both sticks work, but I put them in as single channel mode (ram slots 1 & 2), but later changed the configuration to dual channel mode (ram slots 1 & 3, even 2 & 3). It worked flawlessly in all three configurations. Sorry for the long answer, but in essence, there are no guarantees and your worries will drive you crazy. When memory is mixed, you reduce the likelihood of compatibility, even when you go beyond the recommended products that were specifically identified.
That guy at the computer shop, did he ever indicate or isolate the true reason why the memory wouldn't work ? Maybe, maybe not. I would think with a disparity in memory, the bios is the key to setting the settings for the worst stick of the bunch. Then again, the products you get might overclock to what the better sticks run at. My assumption is that mixed sticks, the bios retards settings to this in "auto" mode. When you force it manually, it may work or it may fail. One thing you oughta know, each and every stick has the manufacturers id encoded onto them at the very least, just like the firmware on other items indicates a manufacturer code and other data that allows these things to be compatible. So know you face that battle going in with any of them. If the bios programming doesn't allow it to work, from that perspective, there'll be problems.

• HD or Booting problem on MSI K7N2 Delta 2 Platinum

Hi all,
Ive a weird issue which i cant figure out myself. I've 2 HD's..lets call them A and B where A = 60Gb (Master) and B = 80Gb (Slave)
It's is like this:
A and B are connected to the primary IDE-slot. A will boot when set as Master and B wont start booting when set as Slave mode (i mean, it wont show/appear in the first hardware (detection) bootscreen of yer BIOS where it says its present or the so called POST-screen), but if I set B as Master only (A turned off) it will boot.
What also happens is if I disconnect the power of drive B..drive A will boot..and while OS is loaded...I turn on the powercable from drive B and reboot..suddenly out of the blue it detects both HD's and reboots like it should do normally...but when i reboot from than..the same thing happens again..(it wont recognize B anymore)
Sumtime it regonizes both drives and sumtime it just won't and sumtimes just 1 drive..
Another thing, when it won't recognize one or sumtime both drives...the POST-screen gets stuck at the name and version of the BIOS...and where it says: 'detecting IDE drives...'  when it is at this stage..and I press  on the DEL-key for example..it's loading damn too slow..I've to wait about 10min before it enters the BIOS-setup..
I am 100% sure I set the jumper correctly for Master or Slave mode on my HD..I know there's sumthing wrong..but don't know where...Ive changed the jumper with a new one  ..switched IDE-cables...switched HD's (set B as Master and A as Slave and vice versa, knowing there is no active partition on B..but only to check if it recognizes the drive)..in all cases..the BIOS settings are set as default!
any1 can help me out with this?
It worked smoothly on my system till i noticed my second MEM bank of my mobo broke (Asus A7N8X-E)..so i had to change it quickly (and went to the store with my warranty to fix this board..it was only 3 months old) ..since I've seen/had enough Asus mobo's in my life I went this time for an MSI which looks better in my opinion...so now i have an MSI K7N2 Delta 2 Platinum..it works fine...except that HD issue mentioned above
any help would be appreciated..thnx in advance!
cheers!

Hi,
I've done that already several times...it doesnt work..any other suggestions?
Now I can boot normally when I disconnect the power of the 2nd HD (or just any HD)...when the os is loaded...I turn back on the power of the 2nd drive and reboot...than it will run/boot/restart etc..normally...this is the only workaround I have at the moment...this only works when the system is turned a long time...
My power supply is 400W..so I don't think Ive any prob with that
cheers
