KDE disable Wicd GTK applet

Hi,
I have installed wicd-client-kde , and when I login to KDE, both the qt and the gtk applets are started automatically.
How can I disable the autostart of the gtk client without uninstalling it?
I know there is a global autostart directory in the /usr/src, where I think wicd registers himself, but I can't find it.
So can somebody help me?
Thank you!

unikum wrote:Install wicd-nogtk from AUR.
It's listed as a dependency for wicd-kde, and should have uninstalled the GTK interface by default (at least, it did when I installed it, but that was months ago).  No sense in having two interfaces installed for the same minor app.

    Did you reboot after doing this? It's also a good idea to update regularly
    Try completely removing wicd (pacman -Rnsc wicd) and reinstalling.

    I use qtcurve for kde/gtk uniformity; after the upgrade to KDE 4.4 the styles look fine, but System Settings->Appearance-GTK Styles and Fonts tab is missing. Is it OK ?

  • KDE: Disable Alt-Click [SOLVED]

    Hi,
    Inkscape uses Alt-Click for selecting invisible shapes; KDE uses Alt-Click for dragging windows. Is there a way to disable this KDE action or bind it to something else (Win-Click, for instance)?

    Hi,
    Use the lower section "Inner Window, Titlebar & Frame"
    Make sure the modifier key is set to "alt" and set the left button to "nothing"
    I just tried it and it works for me
    You can also set "meta" and left button to have the old behaviour with different keys
    Cheers!

  • Disable PackageKit Update Applet

    Dear all,
    I have installed the latest version of oracle linux. The server is accessed by hundrends of students that do their lab exercises. However, I have a problem with the PackageKit Update Applet. Although I can go the System->Preferences->StartUp applications and disable it for my account, I do not know how to do it for all my users. The problem is that the Authentication dialog asking for the root password to update is continuously popping up while the user is logged in with the gnome environment. Is there a way to disable this feature for all accounts or to work around this issue?
    Thank you,
    Nikos

    Apparently PackageKit itself is a system activated daemon called packagekitd, which is managed by gpk-update-icon.
    I seems you can disable it globally by setting System|Preferences|Software Updates to "never".
    Another approach, which I have not tried though, might be following:
    Disable the PackageKit update applet, using the Startup Applications.
    This will create a file named "gpk-update-icon.desktop" containing "X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false".
    Copy your "~/.config/autostart/gpk-update-icon.desktop" to the home directory of other users.
    Or as a very last resort, to remove PackageKit from the system: sudo yum remove PackageKit.

    Setting System|Preferences|Software only affects the current user logged in and does not disable auto-update system-wide. More info at: How to disable yum auto-update in OL6

  • Is there a gnome 3 WICD applet available?

    i'm currently running gnome 3 with wicd as my internet interface... and it works great, i installed the wicd-gtk package so i had an easy to access icon in the notification bar (bottom right corner).  but i'm a little jealous of the more prominent network manager applet that shows up in the top right corner.  i tried switching back to network manager, but it just sucks.  is there any available modification to put the wicd notifier in the applet spot in gnome shell?  i think i remember hearing that gnome shell is written almost entirely in javascript or something else simple, so maybe it's a possibility?

    I've been looking for the same thing ever since GNOME3 came out.  I actually found a few references where I was able to sort of hack my own solution.
    http://blog.fpmurphy.com/2011/04/gnome- … sions.html
    http://blog.fpmurphy.com/2011/05/more-g … ation.html
    The above links boil down to simply creating a new GNOME 3 extension and filling the extension.js file with the following code:
    const Panel = imports.ui.panel;
    const StatusIconDispatcher = imports.ui.statusIconDispatcher;
    function main() {
    StatusIconDispatcher.STANDARD_TRAY_ICON_IMPLEMENTATIONS['wicd-client.py'] = 'wicd-gtk';
    I also like to change the default icon set to better match other GNOME 3 icons. I find these to be the best:
    Faenza wicd Icon Set
    Wicd icon for Ambiance Theme
    I use the second, as I prefer the wave look to the sort of cellphone signal look. Just extract all the images, then copy them into /usr/share/pixmaps/wicd/, and the new icons should appear almost right away, better matching the GNOME3 theme. It's not quite nm-applet since clicking the icon brings up the classic wicd-gtk gui, but looks a lot better this way.
    Happy Hacking
    [edit]
    I forgot to mention that every time wicd-gtk is upgraded in pacman, you will have to recopy the images to /usr/share/pixmaps/wicd/.  I am not aware of a way to define wicd icons on a per user basis to get around this.

  • [KDE] I can't change the icons of gtk-apps

    Hi,
    I'm able to change the theme of the gtk apps under KDE just fine. What I don't get to work is to change the icon theme, too. The gtk apps always use the default one.
    Her's what I have in my .gtkrc-2.0
    gtk-icon-theme-name="FaenzaCupertino"
    gtk-theme-name="oxygen-gtk"
    Any ideas?

    I didn't read that the original Faenza Icon theme is needed, too. Now the next problem is that in Thunderbird the folders are brown and don't use the blue look.
    You are on to something here. The key is what GTK engine you are using: oxygen-gtk. That engine has a special hack to apply KDE icons to GTK applications. What it does is actually set gtk-theme-name on the fly, your gtkrc file doesn't matter.
    And here is the bug; KDE uses icons from ~/.kde4/share/icons but where does GTK try to find your theme? In ~/.icons. The solution is to symlink your icon theme from ~/.kde4/share/icons to ~/.icons.

  • How to share internet connection with KDE networkmanager applet

    I mainly use wireless around my house and like to use one computer to share it's wireless to another when installing Arch, until I can get KDE and networkmanager installed so I can easily connect to the wireless. I've always been able to easily share internet connections with Ubuntu, but when I try it with Arch, with Gnome OR KDE (and their respective applets), It just doesn't work.
    Is there some library or backend I need to install to make ICS work?
    Thanks!

    If this helps at all, here is what I am currently trying: I open up the network settings KDE Control Module, select "Wired", select the device (eth0) and click edit, and under the "IPv4 Address" tab  selecting "Shared" from the "Method" drop-down.
    Also, to make it clearer, I am trying to share wlan0(on device 1) through eth0 to eth0 on device 2. Also, device 2 is running the Arch setup and I am telling it to connect to eth0 via DHCP after I select the remote mirror to use. I have managed to do this before when device 1 ran Ubuntu.
    I've searched Google, the forums, read the wiki pages for KDE and networkmanager, and can't seem to find a mention of internet connection sharing (pertaining to my usage case; the forums have some posts of people trying to use their computer to broadcast eth0, I'm trying to do the opposite) anywhere on them. In fact, I'll gladly write the section myself if I figure this problem out.
    Hope this extra information helps!

  • KDE gtk apps don't use kde mouse

    I'm using Arch KDE packages, installed gtk-qt-engine and everything seems to work except the mouse. When I hover over applications like firefox or midori, the mouse changes to a default gnome theme, but when I hover over pidgin, it works fine using the kde mouse theme.
    Any ideas?

    I was having the same problem. It might have something to do with the latest update for LXappearance.
    I edited the ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file and changed the line "gtk-cursor-theme-name=(null)" so that instead of (null) it had the name of the kde cursor theme.

  • KDE without GTK dependencies

    Hi there!
    I just wanted to completly switch to KDE. But when I installed KDE, I noticed that KDE depends on GTK and GTK2. So my question is, how to get rid of GTK dependencies?
    thx

    well, i don't like the fact KDEUTILS pulls in XMMS. it's a waste of space. there is already a patch available to remove that ancient piece of software, and i'd love to see it in the kde packages in arch. (i reported this as a wish).
    i have no problem with imlib, its simply a good library - and it would go against KDE's most basic values not to use it...
    i'd say not having GTK saves space on disk, and especially in memory, simply giving a performance benefit.
    but i have many more low-level libraries which require, for some weird reason, gtk. poppler is an example, as are gnokki (required by KDEPIM) librsvg and libgpod. i'd love to see those cleaned up, as i don't use any gtk apps except firefox for the occasional site which doesn't work in konqi. imlib2 for example doesn't depend on GTK anymore, a good thing (R).

  • NetworkManager: Disable interfaces in new rc.conf

    Im using NetworkManager and Gnome 3.2. The wiki article on NetworkManager is not up to date (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NetworkManager).
    Since the new rc.conf came out I'm having problems with connecting to wireless networks. It's either very slow, or only works randomly (WPA2 enterprise). The only way that i can get it working is to use
    ifconfig wlan0 down
    ifconfig wlan0 up
    and i often have to repeat that 2 or more times.
    So i was wondering if something else initializes the interfaces before NetworkManager (you had to disable them prior to this in the rc.conf). In the new rc.conf i dont see any option to disable the initialization of those interfaces it. How do i do this?

    I have found networkmanager to be both slow to restart from suspend and unreliable in maintaining connection speed when compared to wicd on gnome 3.2.  It's easy to install (wicd & wicd-gtk) and remove for testing purposes.
    wicd-gtk does not show up in the system tray, instead, it shows in the notification bar, bottom right corner, with a mouse-over.

  • Eduroam - Network man. vs WICD

    Hello,
    I'm trying to connect to Eduroam and have very strange experience.
    I'm not able to connect when I use nmcli or WICD (gtk or cli), but when I use nm-applet, it works. Here is file, which is producted by nm-applet.

    (I'm paranoid, so I substituted some chars for "*", in the original file they are not there, of course. Same with logginname and username).
    When I try to use exactly same settings with WICD (same username, password, PEAP with TKIP/mschapv2, certificate). I don't succeed! Does anyone has any idea why the hell?

  • Forms applet does not load when request forwarded from custom servlet

    I have an existing forms app that I wish to call from a newly-developed servlet. The servlet determines which form to call and then forwards the request to the forms servlet using RequestDispatcher.forward().
    The request is forwarded correctly but when it is done all I see is a blank browser (IE7) window. When I View Source I see all the correct HTML code (from basejpi.htm) but it seems my browser does not attempt to load the forms applet. No messages are displayed in the Java Console. This is the same HTML that comes back if I run the forms app directly, e.g. click a link that goes straight to the forms servlet URL, only in that case the forms app starts up fine.
    Anyone know why this does not work?

    Figured out what is going on:
    In basejpi.htm there is "<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JavaScript SRC=java/forms_ie.js>" that creates an OBJECT tag to load the forms applet. I believe since the context of my custom servlet is different than that of the forms servlet, forms_ie.js is not found when the request is forwarded from my servlet.
    One question answered raises another. There is also an OBJECT tag inside a NOSCRIPT tag for machines where scripting has been disabled:
    <!-- Forms applet definition (start) -->
    <NOSCRIPT>
    <OBJECT name=FormsApplet
    type="application/x-java-applet"
    ...>
    </NOSCRIPT>
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript" SRC="java/forms_ie.js"></SCRIPT>
    My thinking is to remove the NOSCRIPT tag, and also the SCRIPT tag mentioned above, so all machines will simply see the OBJECT tag, like so:
    <!-- Forms applet definition (start) -->
    <OBJECT name=FormsApplet
    type="application/x-java-applet"
    ...>
    This makes me wonder why the SCRIPT option is there to begin with. Anyone see a downside to this approach?
    Kevin
