Keep losing my D:Drive

Hi All
Please can you help me?? I bought a Ipod nano 2nd gen in January - installed everything, uploaded some albums, next time came to use PC and D:Drive had gone from My Computer and wasn't reading or playing any discs.
Did system restore to get D:drive back but of course lost Itunes. So re-downloaded everything and all was well until next time put PC on and guess what D:drive had gone again.
Have now done this three times and have more music on the Ipod but the D;Drive has gone again - grrrr!!
What can I do?????
Thanks
Laura

you're from the UK and you've got a Packard Bell ... so if you head into your Device Manager while the drives are missing (right-click My Computer, select "Manage", click Device Manager), you're going to see a code 41 error message next to the missing optical drives.
it's caused by a device filter conflict in the registry. (i'm not sure what particular device filter is causing the grief on Packard Bells in the UK ... but that's where virtually all of the reports of this come from nowadays.)
for some subtle techniques for dealing with this, see:
iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
... but if you'd prefer to spend less time in the registry, post back and we'll run through some quicker and dirtier techniques.

  • Keep losing my print driver and printer quits working

Have no idea what's going on.  Recently, I can't keep my printer workng.  It worked fine since I got it approx 1 year ago.  It's a Canon Imageclass D400 Series combined printer, copier, fax and scanner.
Now after I reboot both sometimes it will work, but only one time.  The next time it won't work again.  Sometimes, I reboot both and it still won't recognize the printer.  I'm dumbfounded as to what's going on.  I put in the CD to reinstall the driver but it says that I can't reinstall it because it's already installed.  In System Prefs I go to print and try the utility but it doesn't recognize it.  I can't figure out how to delete the previous driver and do a reinstall, can anyone tell me how to delete the old one?  Or, if anyone knows what the problem is, it would be greatly appreciated if you could help...it's driving (no pun intended) me crazy.
    Thanks,
    Jim

Just found this, you might want  to try it. It worked for me.
Resetting the printing system in Mac OS X 10.5.x
To use the Reset Printing System feature in Mac OS X 10.5.x, follow these steps:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Print & Fax from the View menu.
Control-click on list of printers on the left side of the window, then choose "Reset printing system" from the contextual menu. If you don't see a list of printers, Control-click on the text "Click + to add a printer or fax" and select "Reset printing system..."
As an alternative, if you currently have one or more printers listed, you can Option-click the "-" (Remove printer) button.

  • I have a late 2012 iMac running osx 10.8.5.  I keep losing access to my internal hard drive.  I can reboot and regain access and it will last for a few minutes or hours.  Disk utility does not seems to help.

I have a late 2012 iMac with an I5 precessor running OSX 10.8.5 and a 1tb internal hard drive.  I keep losing access to the internal hard drive/startup disk.
I can reboot and everything operates as normal for a few minutes or hours but then I lose all access again to anything on the hard drive.  The computer is still up and running but no files can be accessed and certain websites cannot be acessed even though internet access appears to be normal.  Disk utility can only find permission errors related to iTunes which can be repaired only to come back at the next scan (I would not think permission errors would have anything to do with the hard drive crashing).  It does not seem to matter what program I am using at the time access is lost and it can lose access sometimes right after reboot when no program is running.

You will need to boot into the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during restart and select it) to run Disk Utility/Disk Repair.

  • External drive conntected to Time Capsule keeps losing connection

I've been having this problem since I bought my TC over one year ago. Other than this everything works fine (aside from the occasional need for a restart).
I have an external 500GB drive attached to my 500GB TC via usb. I use the TC strictly for backups and the other drive to host my media files. When I want to use those files I switch on the drive. Only about half of the time does that work. When it does work everything is fine. I see the drive in the finder as expected.
When it doesn't work, I can see the drive name in the finder. But if I click to go into the folder, I get an error saying that the connection cannot be found.
It shows up in the Airport Utility as normal.
Powering the drive off and on does not help.
Relaunching the finder doesn't help either.
The only way I can connect to the drive again is to either logoff and log back into my mac, or restart the TC.
It seems that my computer is remembering some kind of network disk mounting settings that don't get refreshed when I turn on the drive, but then do get refreshed when I logoff and back in. Does anyone know how I could force that refresh to happen? Has anyone had this problem before?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated
PS all my software and firmware are the latest.
    Thanks.

  • LaCie external hard drive keeps losing connection to Windows 8.1 computer

    Hello all,
My LaCie external hard drive (Rugged version) seems like it keeps losing connection to my brand new Windows 8.1 laptop. The laptop is an HP Pavillion 15-p 133cl TouchSmart Notebook which I just got today. Basically, every few minutes, or if I nudge the external
a bit, the computer will seem like it disconnected and reconnected to the external hard drive in a split second and bring it up in the Windows Explorer. This external hard drive doesn't show any problems connecting to any other computer, but it has occurred
with 2/3 ports on this computer so far. I'm a bit worried, because I definitely DO NOT want the files on this external to get corrupted in any way. What should I do? Thanks a bunch.

may I know your external HDD model, to check which USB version to isolate power and cable connection issue
if this is USB 3.0 try to attached at USB 3.0 at your laptop, your laptop has 2 USB 3.0 and 1 for 2.0, for external HDD with USB 2.0 sometimes need more power / more than 1 connection, sometimes the power will loose
but since the trigger it will disconnect if you nudge the HDD, I suggest back up data to your laptop first, try to change with other data or power cable, try also update your laptop chipset
try to check with other device to isolate port issue
may I know if you are using other PC, did your external HDD also will disconnect if you nudge it?
contact your external HDD manufactured to get some suggestion

  • Keep losing DWC130 external USB drive

I keep losing the connection to the DWC130 External USB drive on Windows 8.1. If I leave a Windows Explorer window open, after 10 minutes or so when I go to the external Toshiba drive its like it has lost its connection. The drive dissappears from the list of connected drives, and after a few seconds a new window opens with a refreshed connection to the drive. Why do I keep losing this live connection to the drive? How can I stablize this?

I read something about some of these external drives needing more power, even when plugged into the USB 3 port. The article suggested a "Y" connector to allow the one drive to plug into two USB 3 ports simultaneously. I guess that's possible, but before doing so I'm going to call my local computer center today where I purchased the hard drive to see if they know of this problem and how to resolve it.
Actually, that is NOT possible. The DWC130 external drive has a power adaptor and plugs into an outlet for its power source. So, something else is at play here.

  • AA3 keeps losing Audio Hardware Setup settings...

I work in a broadcast center with a number of AA3 machines that keep losing their Audio Hardware Setup settings. It keeps switching from the LynxONE drivers to Audition 3.0 Windows Sound. I can find no documentation on this.
I've found that the trigger is when AA3 has "release ASIO driver in background" NOT checked, and the user minimizes it and plays something from another audio program. Then they have to go in and set it back again before AA3 will pass audio again.
Is there any way to prevent this from happening?
    Thanks.

In the Options menu. Device Properties. Then you have tabs for Wave In and Wave Out amongst others. Also you may need to also set Device Order from the same Options menu.

  • Satelite C660 keeps losing its wireless connection

    Hi
We have bought the above laptop for our son for christmas and it keeps losing its wireless connection, we also have a Satelite L450 which is running fine (not losing internet connection) we have been onto our broadband supplier they have told us that as the wireless connection on our other laptop is fine, it is something to do with the C660, one of the drivers needs an update, unfortuneately I have forgotten the driver name but it is something to do with the modem, Our son is desperate to use his laptop.
    Can anyone help?

Had the same problem but with a different Satellite model - the signal was fine on another laptop in the room - the problem was the power management option / power plan - the link below says it all but in short if it is on balanced the default option the default means that it tells the router to go into a power save mode that it might not support.

Have a read, hope it helps as it worked for me and is a very simple solution!

  • When trying to download ITunes rel 10, I keep losing my intenet connection

When trying to update and download ITunes release 10, I keep losing my internet connection - message I keep getting is "There might be a problem with the driver for the Local Adaptor Connection adaptor".
I keep restoring my PC to a previous point which gets me back my internet but now have lost all access to Itunes ( version 9 ). I have alos tried uninstalling all Itunes products but the internet connection
failed during this sequence as well.
I've never had any issues with upgrading Itunes before. Can someone PLEASE help
    me through this. Thank you.

You won't see anything obviously related to iCloud, Jimmy. But if you go to the home iTunes Store page while logged into your iTunes Store account, you should see a Purchases link now under the Quick Links header. That's the only part of iCloud active at this time.
    Regards.

  • Why do I keep losing audio/recorded tracks and SFX in my projects? I have tried: Saving as archive file/searching package contents etc. to no avail. Can anyone help?

Why do I keep losing audio/recorded tracks and SFX in my projects? I have tried: Saving as archive file/searching package contents etc. to no avail. Can anyone help? It keeps telling me 'Audio file not found', and seems to be different tracks in the same project each time too.

I also have this problem using Garageband in a school network situation when students open their project on one station, save it to their network drive, and later open it at a different station.  90% of the time there will be no issue, but sometimes audio files are lost. (Garageband '11, iMacs)
That sounds like it might be a failure of the students to perform a Save As and check Archive Project when they do. This asks GB to pull all the files it needs into the associated .band document rather than point to them externally (and then risk not having them be there).

  • Deskjet 3520 keeps losing connection to Mac

Last night, I installed an HP Deskjet 3520 printer to use with my desktop Mac (which is using OS Yosemite).  I have an etsy shop where I sell prints of my illustrations, so I often have to print out multiple files in a row.  When I installed the driver last night, I was able to wirelessly print the test page, but after that, I could not print wirelessly.  Instead, I used the USB connection, which worked fine.  I printed a round of prints and everything worked fine.
This morning, I need to do some more printing, and my Mac reported that there was no connection to the printer (even though the printer was connected via USB).  I deleted the printer from my Systems Preferences Printers and re-added it, and I was finally able to do my printing (still not wirelessly).
Now, tonight, I have tried to do more printing and the Mac reports that there is no connection to the printer, USB or wireless.  I tried deleting from Systems Preferences and re-adding again, but that didn't work this time.  Then, I tried resetting the printing system, uninstalling HP, and re-installing the driver.  Now, I'm at the part of the installer where the device needs to be configured and I am receiving the message:
Device Not Reachable.  The wireless network settings were successfully downloaded to your device.  However, your Mac was unable to locate the device on the network.
I don't know what keeps going wrong!  The little screen on my printer says it is connected to my wireless network AND I am still connected via USB so I don't know how the device would not be reachable.  I also don't know why the printer would keep losing connection with the computer every time I need to start printing again.  Please help!!

    Hi @tylertot
    This is in deed a little strange, but I'd like to help! Some of the steps I am going to offer are steps you have done, but I;d like to perform the following steps in the order presented to see what happens. Please give the following a try;
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable, also unplug the USB cable. Restart teh Mac and then plug the printer power cable back in. You can also go ahead and reconnect the USB cable.
Reset Printing System  - (I know you did this already, thus you know how, but here are the steps for others who may view this thread)
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Repair Disk Permissions  - I don't see that you have tried this yet, and this step might be crucial to resolving the issue.
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and add the printer back.
When you add the printer, please ensure you are using the HP driver. You can add the wireless or the USB, or Both. If you ad both, I suggest adding a name to identify one connection from the other.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can the printer driver
You can see in the image above where the name section is, if you add both connection types simply add USB to the beginning of one of the names.
Adding both printers and naming them to help identify them helps when it comes time to print. When you print something you can choose the printer with the appropriate connection type. For example, you can choose the wireless driver ad if you get an offline message try printing again but choose the USB driver. If the USB one works you will know the issue is related to the Wireless connection, and if it doesn;t then the issue is related tot he operating system.  Really this is just a proactive troubleshooting attempt in case issue arise in the near future. If you only want to add one connection type that is okay too.
I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Keep losing DVD-rom

    Hi
I keep losing my DVD device from the device manager. I can get it back by rebooting, but then within minutes it defaults and the device manager says "windows cannot load the device driver because a previous instance of the driver is still in memory-CODE 38
If I disable/enable the DVD then the device runs okay.
Sometimes it defaults with CODE 18 or 19 as the reason. It is a new clean install of Windows 8 PRO
My machine is the T410 with Mat**bleep**a UJ8A2 SATA DVD.
I tried recently to update the firmware with the Lenovo utility but it kept returning with software is preventing the update.
In desperation I reloaded a Windows 7 image, and, the software uploaded first time and the DVD worked faultlessly,
From what I can ascertain it is probably a configuration problem within the registry but I have a PC with the selfsame programmes loaded, but a different DVD, and it works perfectly.
I am thinking of running MAX registry cleaner or ErrorEND to clean the registry but am doubtful of any success.
Can any one suggest an answer.
    Regards
    Frank

Forgot to say I am running Windows 8 PRO.

  • 2008 Mac Pro keeps losing connection to my Plex Blu-ray burner

my 2008 Mac Pro keeps losing connection to my Plex Blu-ray burner.  It is installed in the second optical drive bay.  If I power down, pull the connections to the drive and re-attach, the drive is again recognized on boot.  A day later, no drive found.  The first optical (top bay) drive never loses connection.  Any thoughts?

Disable drive sleep in the Energy Saver system preference.

  • Losing connection to drive but not WiFi

I have a 2 TB Time Capsule with a new OWC USB HD plugge in on it.  I am using the TC as follows:
    *  Running Time Machine backups to the TC over wireless or wired Ethernet to my MBA and MBP respectively.
    *  Keeping my photo library and my iTunes library running off the USB drive connected to the TC
The problem is that the MBP and MBA both keep losing connection to the TC drive and to the attached USB drive.  As a result, they cannot back up and cannot access my photos or iTunes media.  I cannot manually click through to reconnect. but have to restart the computer to get a connection.  However, I still have WiFi and Internet when this happens.
The problem began only after I connected the extra external drive to the TC and after I put my iTunes media on that extra drive.

That is to keep the Gremlins smiling..
Whenever you do these kinds of things you can be sure you will be hit with the Gremlins. They may not exist in your cosmology.. but in the TC.. that is where they live.. Lion too which continually suffers networking issues.
Lion has simply forgotten where the disk is. That is why the reboot is necessary.
AFAIK there is no fix or work around. I believe a TC is unsuitable for the task. To say nothing of slow.. mind dimmingly slow. yawn!!
Even the internal disk is slow but the USB.. wow that crawls.
In the end you might need to connect the USB drive to a computer.. eg a Mac Mini and use it as a media centre.. doesn't need to be new.. a 2ghz C2D will be fine.
Have you tried just restarting the TC.. that is usually enough to get computer to recognise it.
What role does the TC have in the network.. is it bridged or router?
Let me suggest you try using an extremely short lease time on the dhcp.. whichever is the main router that controls it, and see if that helps. 15min for example.. It will not add any issues or significant traffic but it may help to keep things bouncing.

  • Keep losing connection to back up volumes and TC isn't backing up all data.

Just got this and set it up and having nothing but problems. Wireless network was easy to set up and works reliably (just like my AP Extreme did), however I keep losing a connection with the backup volumes and it is only backing up 95GB of my 106GB of hard drive info. Very hard to tell what's been backed up and what hasn't. Is there anyway of telling what it has grabbed and what it hasn't?
Do I have a bad hard drive? I've given up on using this as a external hard drive and backup, but really bummed on TC. Not at all as easy to use as the AP Store guy said it was...

    thanks!
