Unresolved Kernel Panic -- Mac Mini
Hi, This is in reference to my wife's Mac Mini 1.5 GHz G4 running 10.4.11. She's been having a KP on startup (and at other times) and I've tried the troubleshooting steps in the X-Labs kernel panic page without result. Except that starting up in Safe Mode seems to stop it.
Here's the latest KP log. I'd appreciate it greatly if anyone has any ideas.
Best regards,
Steve

Understanding crash logs isn’t easy and it’s hard (sometimes impossible) to decipher the cause of the problem. Take a look at Apple’s Crash Reporter document at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html
Also look at Tutorial: An introduction to reading Mac OS X crash reports

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices except your monitor, keyboard and mouse. Do you experience the same problems?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: *Testing RAM* @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.
May be a solution on one of these links.

Cheers, Tom -
Can anyone help with this please?
I have a Mid 2011 Mac Mini that has been crashing once or twice a week for the last 6 weeks or so. Originally I had 8Gb of third party RAM fitted. When it crashed with this RAM the computer would freeze the display showing no response to the keyboard or mouse. The Fan (I think but could be the HDD) would also make a lot of noise. The only way to recover would be to hold the Power button in and then the Mac would restart.
In case the memory was the issue I have reverted to he original 2Gb supplied with the machine. (Still fitted when the Panic below occurred)
Since then the Mac is restarting itself show a message when I return to it that it encountered a problem and had to restart. It is no longer freezing.
I am pretty new to the Mac OS so have been trying to make sense of the Kernel Panic logs. I uninstalled some of the software shown in the list that I am no longer using such as LogMeIn but it crashed again today.
Can someone take a look at the Kernel Panic and give me some advice please?

com.apple.kec.corecrypto 1.0That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation (after erasing the startup volume) may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place, without erasing.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.
The Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
If your system is not fully up to date, running Software Update might get you a bug fix.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
Kernel panics mac mini mountain lion
Been having Kernel Panics on 2012 Mac Mini since September. Running Mountain Lion. I've done hardware test, Apple Store did one as well. Here's a list of things I thought were causing them:
Bad Monitor
Bad Monitor Cable
Use of USB devices, including 3rd party keyboards and mice (non-apple), hard drives and external dvd drives/writers
Time Machine
Connection to a Windows File Server
Logmein
DVD Fab
I've changed and/or deleted all of the above and am still getting them. Lately, they seem to be associated with internet surfing. Happens with Safari, Chrome and Firefox, seemingly random. But not isolated to just internet surfing. Have had them when importing pictures using Iphoto, using Itunes, or even when the computer was unattended and not being used at all.
I've also zapped PRAM, repaired disk permissions and more.
Here is my latest log:

Mac Mini crashes when HDMI-connected AV receiver powered off
This issue concerns a Mac Mini, mid 2011, running Yosemite. It is connected to a Yamaha AV receiver using HDMI and under normal circumstances works normally. However, whenever I power off the AV receiver, the Mac Mini crashes (spontaneously restarts).
I can't find any trace of a kernel panic, and there is no message after startup to say that the system has restarted unexpectedly.
For example, the system log from last night shows that is was performing a backup, and then there's the boot message at the time I shut the AV receiver down:
1/24/15 10:18:29.000 PM kernel[0]: hfs: mounted Recovery HD on device disk0s3

I have swapped out the HDMI cable in case it is faulty, but this has not changed anything. This issue is easily reproducible but I haven't been able to find any possible solutions. It started after the Yosemite upgrade. Also, the AV receiver need not be displaying the Mac Mini video for this to occur. It will crash regardless of what channel the receiver is showing.
Any help would be much appreciated!I have a similar issue after recently buying a receiver (Sony STR-DN1050) and wiring my mac mini through it.
Some observations that seems to be linked.
1. When I power up the receiver with another hdmi input than the mac mini, the mac mini switches fast between displays, from the TV name to unknown (observed through Remote Desktop), and sometimes log out the user.
2. Then, when switching to the mac mini hdmi input, everything works fine, as the mac will recognise the TV.
3. When switching off the receiver, the remote desktop disconnects and usually the mac mini will log off user or restart- not sure which.
Edit: Right now, when I powered off the receiver, the mac stayed on... no idea why, as it usually disconnects as mentioned above.
Edit2: As I look in the Display settings, the mac now recognizes my receiver as Display when it is turned off, presumably because I turned off HDMI pass-through on the receiver settings.
However, I still have problem 1 above: When I turn on the receiver with any other input than the Mac Mini, the mac will start switching displays and log out the user. -
Mac mini crashing when booting up
Hi, does anyone know why the mac mini crashes at bootup. it gets teh strart up ping, then the loading screen, then the harddrive turns off. any ideas why this is happening
I had a similar problem recently, my mini froze during a backup, held the power button down left it for a few mins and rebooted, only got the grey screen with apple logo and the spinning gear and that was it, could not get past that so I installed OS X on an external drive, the internal HDD took upto 10 mins to mount then vanished copletely a day or so later, in the mean time the optical drive stopped working as well!!, took it to the Apple store who thought it ws a dodgy interconnect board, but they called yesterday to say that both the hard drive and optical have conked out, and that the machine was packed full of dust, and possibly caused everything to overheat!! (am allergic to dust so keep my flat quite clean!!), to replace both costs about the same as a new machine so not worth it!. So off to collect it today and buy a new one. Have had the machine barely 2 years! and thought it would outlive my Dell PC!

Mac Mini crashes when exporting imovie projects
Hi.
When I try to export imovie projects, my Mac Mini crashes. Not ever, just every two or three times.
My system is 10.6.7 and imovie is 11. Can anyone help me? Thanks, I apologize for my bad EnglishThank you, I'll try!
I hope you're right, because is boring to see out of the blue all the screen getting grey and the window that invites you to reboot, without hope... It happens, for example, after two or three succesful exporting projects, then I reboot and go on for another two or three projects and then again... I'm afraid it's a RAM problem, but I'll try to update system and software.
Thank you again -
My Unibody Mac Mini Crashes when I switch my 1080P Samsung's input sources and when I switch back to the HDMI input source that the Unibody mac mini is on the Mini crashes and I have to hold down the power button to restart it.
I don't know why this is happening.Sorry to hear you are experiencing this as well. Please see this post for more info:

Why Does My Mac Mini Crash So Much?
I have a Quicksilver PowerMac and a Mac Mini, and they both have (substantially) the same software configuration - the latest Apple software. The Quicksilver is solid as a rock. It never crashes.
The Mac Mini crashes frequently - I'd say an average of twice a day. Many different applications are in the foreground when it happens, but it is usually Safari. I suspect it might have to do with the memory that I substituted. I put in a 1 GB memory module - Kensington from Fry's. Memory tests say it is fine.
How can I track this down? Does Apple help?
BrianFirst off, I would like to thank you all for attempting to help me out.
Next, I'd like to correct my original message. The memory is "Kingston", not "Kensington". (I was working from memory, and that doesn't always work so well.)
I think I'm going to go with the suggestion to swap the memory out and observe what happens. I was hoping that someone would come up with a method of finding a "smoking gun" - something that would positively identify the memory as the culprit or eliminate it as the problem. I guess it doesn't work that way. Last night (all night long), I ran REMBER, a GUI "wrapper" for the "memtest" command line program, and it found nothing. I suspect I can run it for a weekend and get the same level of information.
I hope Andy's right about his "no quibble" comment. I called Kingston, and when I told them that I had the 1 GB PC3200 DDR, he informed me that the Mini was spec'ed for the PC2700 memory. It's my understanding that both of these are supposed to work (the 3200 slows down to 2700), but I can see the beginnings of quibbling.
Brian -
Hi,
my MBP crashed 3 times this week. First I didn't read the problem details. The other/last two which happened last night an this morning mentioned Kernel panic. (Copied all the details down in case that's of any help?)
I read the following in an old thread:
+Kernel panics are caused by two things: faulty hardware (usually memory) and buggy kernel code (usually third-party kernel extensions.) The relevant part of the panic log is the backtrace, which in your case shows that the panic occured in the graphics drivers. The VMWare extensions are the only third-party kernel code you're running.+
+There are two things you can do. First, run the Apple Hardware Test that came with the Mac. If that's positive, you have a hardware issue. If it's negative, uninstall VMWare and see whether you can reproduce the crash.+
Unfortunately I am abroad for the coming months (in Egypt, where there's no apple store!), and do not have my CDs or any other extra things with me to run that Apple Hardware Test...
I am a computer illiterate, so do not quite understand what has gone wrong. Have not really downloaded anything big, but very often use a lot of basic programmes at once and have my computer on for long periods at a time. (I know, not perfect conditions). My computer has also been running pretty slow every now and then and froze a few times, but that improved. More concerned about the panic crashes.
If you have any other suggestions, that would be amazing! Thank you! Many KP's are caused by RAM problems including incorrect RAM, defective RAM or RAM that is unseated. You can easily trouble shoot these issues by being a little methodical. If your KP problem doesn't appear to be RAM related then I'd suggest studying these article to help you locate where the problem is.

Mac Mini crashes - NOT A KERNAL PANIC - just reboots
I posted this same info a couple days ago, but nobody responded, yet I see others getting their crashes responded to.
I have a Mac Mini Core Duo and have added 2 Gig of Omni Tech. memory recently. Everything pretty much works okay, except that playing Big Bang Board Games Reversi makes the mac reboot at random times. It is NOT a kernal panic. It simply powers itself off and back on, rebooting. I don't get the screen where you get told (in multiple languages) to reboot. It simply goes "BOOF!" and it powers off and on.
These reboots happen only in a few strange situations, but not in regular applications like Safari, Thunderbird, or even GarageBand. I can surf all day in Safari, literally, for over 12 hours. Then I go to Reversi and two plays later, "BOOF!".
All memory tests show my memory is okay, which includes:
Memtest from Memtest.org,
TechTools CD from the AppleCare package, and
Apple Hardward Test that comes on the original Disc #1 DVD with the mini.
All of them show no errors with the memory, nor with any other hardware.
Any suggestions?

Mac Mini Intel Duo Core Mac OS X (10.4.7)Hi MrDuck,
It sounds like you may well need to reset the 'System Managament Controller'. There is a fairly straight forward guide on how to perform this procedure written here - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446 . It's absolutely nothing to worry about, the likeliness is that your system needs to be 'refreshed' to work with your new hardware if you like. It should do the trick.
Hope that I may have been of help

Mac Mini crashes and restarts all the time?
Hi! I was really hoping someone could help me out.
I have a mid 2011 Mac Mini which used to work all right, but has been messing up since last summer, restarting, freezing, crashing and doing everything that makes working with pictures (Preview, Lightroom, Photoshop, iPhoto) impossible. Safari crashes often, too, and looks weird sometimes (text disappears, leaving only blocks where text was -- but restarting Safari works for that).
I've done all updates I can think of (using the latest Mavericks), 1/3 of disk space is free (about 150 GB), the most apps I have open at once is 3-4 (Mail, iTunes, Safari, iPhoto), and I almost never use Lightroom or Photoshop with any other apps open. I only have power cable and HDMI connected at all times, sometimes SD card or iPad, but then only for a few minutes for syncing. Since 90% of what I do on my Mac is editing pictures, this issue is seriously inconvenient. The computer usually crashes when working with pictures, but also when I'm only using Safari/iTunes.
Here's the latest crash log:

It is likely one of these applications. Uninstall using the developer's uninstall instructions. I would start with Intego.
At the very least check these are current.
You can also try a safe boot…
OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support
That will disable the extensions & other startup items. Be aware that many nonessential Apple extensions will be disabled so some features will performa badly or not at all, this is normal in a safe boot. Test as much as possible. Reboot to return to a normal running OS. -
Since updating to 10.10 my mini is crashing once a day. It restarts automatically and displays a message that there was a problem and to touch any key to continue restoration.
I am using Safari when the crashes happen.
Has anyone found the reason and a way to stop it yet?If a kernel panic log it and post the results here:
Mac OS X: How to log a kernel panic
What information is provided in the message?
Do it a button to click to see more info about the problem?
