Keynote and flash - sizes

I want to create a flash file that is a certain size in pixels, ideally by using keynote if this is possible. How can I change the size of the flash file that is exported from Keynote? Is it simply the paper size that needs adjusting?

Yes, that's correct. Just be aware that you can't create a slide size smaller in either height or width than 200 pixels. If you need something smaller than this, you'll need to create the file at an even multiple of your target size greater than 200
for example
to create a file that 100x50
set up Keynote to create it at 400x200
and then, when you embed it in the browser, embed it at the 100x50 size. It should work fine for you.

  • Keynote and Flash CS3

    I have read the threads on lack of support for transparency in animated GIFs and QT Flash tracks. I just installed Adobe CS3 and iWork '08, and Keynote '08 seems willing to import Flash 9 files (although I have yet to try features not in Flash 5). There seems no way to specify transparency for the background in SWF, it is an option on export. Assuming the lack of support for transparency is fixed, is there hope for being able to import SWF 9 files to Keynote '08 and have them be transparent?

    Welcome to the discussions, Jeff.
    I don't think so. Since the Flash would be playing within QuickTime, and the problem is somewhere between Keynote's and QuickTime's interactions, that core problem would have to be resolved before transparencies would work in Keynote.
    However, if you get it to work, definitely post back to let us know! (By the way, you're right that the QuickTime support in Keynote for Flash can support ANY version Flash file as long as the file doesn't use any post Flash 5 features.)

  • Keynote and Flash export. No sound in the flash file

    Oh well...
    Here I am again. I have recorded speech for my slide show as a narration and there is a sound file on every slide. The sound files are mp3s (Exported from Audacity as mp3 ID3v1). Come to playing the show and the sound doesn't play. All the builds still play correctly but sound there aint. How do I fix it?
    G5 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    That parameter just has to do with playback from your computer. From all the reading that I have done lately it seems that Flash 6 only supports 3 differnet type of sound files.
    Supports PCM, ADPCM and MP3 audio/sound playback for the speaker and headphone.
    http://www.flashdevices.net/2006/04/sony-psp-flash-player-6-supported.html
    This would be why all those other types of files that you put in a project wont export. Flash 6 doesn't support them. Also looking at the release notes (tucked away in the Macromedia/Adobe archives) Flash Player 6.0r40 and later supports MP3 files with ID3 v1.0 and v1.1 tags.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flash/releasenotes/player/rn_6.html
    Now I tested my Flash file with ID3 v2.0 tags and if worked fine. I think it has something to do with give the taags to the player so the player can do something with them (check the link above). Also having flash player 9 might have something to do with it. Anyway the ID3 v 1.0 tags are more compatable with software than the v2.0 tags. So I would use v1.0 anyway. I think that is what iTunes/QT uses anyway.
    Also another thing that is weird about this whole saga is that I checked the Audio MIDI settings earlier in the piece. They were set to the correct setting. Audacity must have changed it back (of maybe something else did). But I did notice a little white noise when I did start playing my Audacity tracks (like a skip on a LP). Happens when the setting is changed. But the strange thing is that I have no idea what was causing it to change to 96000 Hz. I suppose it doesn't matter too much but rather that know that it happens. (I do remeber a time when a Flash file did it. I have a slow conection and I think that the player did something weird. That's another story)

  • Size of sprite different in AS3 and Flash

    When i do a Select All of my symbol in Flash I get a height
    (lets say 300x300). Even if there are multiple items, it groups
    them together to give me the total size.
    In AS3 I never get the same size. I have tried calling
    getRect(), width/height, etc... I get a different size, it's close
    but still invalid, sometimes smaller, sometimes larger.
    To replicate this:
    1. Create a new sprite with some text, add some paint
    brushes, etc..
    2. Add the sprite to the stage and notice its width and
    height
    3. Give the sprite an instance name (in this case I called it
    "block")
    4. Add a document main source file and add the following code
    to the constructor (from the bottom of the script)
    You will see that the size the code tells you and the size
    the flash editor gives are different. Is this a bug?

    1) yes the sprite is on the stage. It is accessible by AS3
    just the size is wrong.
    2) no, the sprite is not always a whole pixel, sometimes the
    size in Flash may be 300.50 x 210.90 etc..

  • Swf increase size mystery publishing into Flash 8 and Flash CS4

    Hello,
    i discovered recently that a swf build with Flash 8 IDE, published for Flash Player 8 get a different size when published with Flash CS4 IDE.
    You can reproduce that effect with all sort of swf.
    I did a report for each publish (same .fla into Flash 8 IDE and Flash CS4 IDE)
    The result was : all vector graphics, all fonts, all bitmaps, all actionscript code increased
    From test.fla, i did one key frame with :
    - a dynamic TextField with some simple chars in it = "Test Chars",
    - a simple shape with brush tool
    - and one movieclip with an ordinary circle
    Size report from Flash 8 :

    Does somebody knows something about this strange phenomen ?

    Didn't look at the file size of the FLA, just the SWF as I didn't even necessarily resave the CS4 as CS6. No edits were made, I tried it with a simple open and publish just to make sure I wasn't doing anything to change the file and the resulting file was heavier (kb).
    I looked through the size reports and saw that while image compression was better in the CS6 version, the fonts were all heavier than they were in the CS4 version and this put it over the 40kb limit.

  • HT4942 Why is the size display of Keynote (and all the iWorks programs) not adjustable enough to allow 2 programs to be viewed side by side!  The won't allow me to fully choose how small I want it to be!

    I often use Keynote AND Pages jumping back and forth when creating a presentation.  I used to be able to open each and make them fit side by side to work so I could see both evenly.  But now these iWork programs no longer allow me to shrink their size displayed to fit this way.  I can only shrink them to be about 2/3rds of my monitor which means the other is grossly covered up by the other and I have to keep clicking over the other to see information and then click back on the other which is immediately covered up again and I have to memorize what I saw on the other program to add to the other!  Frustrating!!!  Is there a way to minimize these programs to any size I want?!?!?!?!

    Same thing happens on my mbpr 15", I'm going to guess that Gary is running the programs on a large screen iMac and maybe it the limitations of our laptops' screens preventing us from running the apps at 1/2 screen size.

  • Flash exported from Keynote and embeded in iWeb page not working in IE

    using the "html snippet" widget and swfobeject code generated here: http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?page=wizard I placed a swf file generated by Keynote in an iWeb page.
    It seems to work fine except for folks using IE in Windows. They get to the first page, but the "Next" link doesn't work. My problem page address is here: http://shortpoem.org/readings/Selected_Poems.html
    Can anyone help me see what needs to change?
    This is the generated code (I also tried using the html generated by Keynote and had the same problem):
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.jeroenwijering.com/embed/swfobject.js"></script>
    This text will be replaced
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var so = new SWFObject('http://shortpoem.org/readings/SelectedPoemsfiles/thoughts.swf','mpl','800','600','8');
    so.addParam('allowscriptaccess','always');
    so.addParam('allowfullscreen','true');
    so.addVariable('height','600');
    so.addVariable('width','800');
    so.addVariable('file','/upload/player.flv');
    so.write('player');
    </script>

    The code in your first post is not what you pasted in the Snippet.

  • Keynote smaller flash-files ?

    I was delighted to discover that it's easy to make little slideshows in Keynote and having the option to export them to flash format.
    I would like to incorporate them in my website, which shows different projects during the year. It would make managing the website much easier then in html. However . . . . . a 500 kB keynote file (7 slides 700x350 pixels) makes a 3mB flashfile after export. And that doesn't make me feel happy.
    Does someone know a solution. (I tested MacFlashOptimizer, but compressing the flashfile to even 1 mB makes a lousy result).
    Important detail: I don't have the official Flash software, which . . . I guess . . . would make it a lot easier.
    PowerMac G5 (2x1.8) double harddisk   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Unfortunately, Keynote's Flash export is more of a concession to that format's ubiquity than it is a full-featured high quality Flash file creator. There are many ways other tools have to lower file size by converting vectors, compressing images, etc. Keynote doesn't have any of those. In order to have a smaller Keynote file, you have to make sure that you're pre-compressing all your images to be the exact size you want them to be. Even then, other tools do a MUCH better job than Keynote.

  • Keynote and e-mail

    It's hard for me to believe that we cannot simply send a Keynote file (or a Page or Number file, for that matter) by e-mail as simply as we do Office files. What's the problem? Why hasn't Apple built this into the IWork set of possibilities. I find when I export in PowerPoint or PDF or Flash or Quicktime, something gets lost in my Keynote file. I am proud of what I produce in Keynote and would like to share it with colleagues.
    So this is an official complaint to Apple and a request of anyone who knows how to sent the Keynote file by e-mail without losing something.
    Disappointed: Jeffreycal1

    Welcome to the forum!
    A Keynote presentation is a actually a collection of files, called a "package". OS X uses this format, but other OSes don't and often email platforms don't understand it. To email a Keynote presentation, simply compress it into a single actual file by selecting the document in the Finder and from the File menu choosing "Create Archive" (in Tiger) or "Compress" (in Leopard). You can email the resulting file without difficulty. Your recipient merely has to double-click the file to uncompress it (this will only work if your correspondent has a Mac, of course, since there is no version of Keynote for Windows).

  • Keynote and keyboard dock

    Does anyone know if Keynote will ever be available in portrait mode? The reason I ask is because I want to use the Keyboard dock with Keynote and the dock only allows portrait mode. Seems like a logical combination of app and accessory and highly frustrating that the two currently don't work together.

    My guess is that won't be a priority since a presentation's orientation is landscape. To create a WYSIWYG keynote in portrait orientation you'd either have to scroll back and forth (ugh) or work in much reduced size (also ugh). I was thankful I already had a blue tooth keyboard to play with for a while because I was tempted by the keyboard dock until I realized the potential drawback.

  • Using Keynote and iPhoto slideshow together

    Computer: 12" Powerbook G4, 1.5ghz
    Display: 23" Apple Cinema Display (1920x1200)
    Software: OSX 10.4.9, Keynote 2, iPhoto 6
    Hi everyone! Above are the specs for the project I'm working on and here's the problem I'm having:
    I am trying to create a makeshift kiosk display for an upcoming event using slides in Keynote and a picture slideshow in iPhoto. I'm planning on running it off my Powerbook to my 23" Cinema Display.
    I'm using Keynote for the presentation content because of the motion effects (transitions, build-ins, etc.) and iPhoto for the image slideshow because of the Ken Burns effect (which I don't believe Keynote has). Both look great running seperately, however when this is being displayed at the show, I'll need both to run back to back automatically, without having to manually switch back and forth between applications.
    I have both the Keynote presentation and the iPhoto slideshow displaying at 1920x1200. I've tried exporting the iPhoto slideshow to Quicktime, but it won't export any higher than 640x480. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make this work? I won't be able to operate the computer when this is running, so I really need to find a way to make everything run seamlessly while keeping the high resolution of the 1920x1200 monitor.
    Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks,
    -Steve
    PB 12" 1.5ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    iMovie is a DV editing app and the final results would still make a 640X480 file.
    I would change a few things to make everything work together:
    First is the display resolution. You want the 23 inches to be used so just reduce the display preferences to try and match your QuickTime file. 800X600 sounds about right but larger will still work as H.264 Video scales up in size very nicely.
    This would force you to "reduce" the dimensions of the Keynote file but that shouldn't be much of an issue.
    QuickTime Pro could also be used to "change" the dimensions of the 640X480 file. Again, H.264 scales up in size and would look pretty good at even double size.
    The goal is to have them both at the same dimension and then match the monitor resolution.
    Easier to change the display than the files.

  • Help with Illustrator CS6 and Flash CS4

    Hello I use Illustrator CS6 and Flash CS4. When I export a drawing realized in Illustrator in the size(format) .sof Flash, this one is imported in the library(bookcase) of Flash CS4 but he(it) is created with a multitude of graphic symbols and symbols Bipmap. In the scene(stage) of Flash, the image is illegible it is floutée, apparently it is not a vectorial image. Thank you for your answer. Very cordially.
    Thank You !!!

    Sometimes a picture is better than a description. I had to use a translator to find out that floutee means blurred.
    Generally bitmaps (raster images) are not a strong suite for illustrator. It can do some things with them, just not as much as photoshop. Maybe if you could explain what you want to do with the symbol, then maybe we can give some ideas. Also by posting a screen shot, we might know of where there is a vector alternative.

  • Cannot get into mac. I get a white screen and flashing file folder with question mark inside. What can I do?

    2012/13 MacBook Pro froze up, so I did a hard shut down. Now, when I try to start up, it makes 3 unusual beeps, then I get a white screen. After a couple minutes, a flashing file folder with a question mark appears and remains. What is wrong and what can I do to fix it.

    Three beeps usually means a RAM or RAM slots problem. The Question Mark means there is no bootable system found.

    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    The main difference if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion is that you must first boot from the Recovery HD. Simply boot from the Recovery HD to perform the above.
    Reinstall Snow Leopard Without Erasing The drive
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
    If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
    Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
    Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing The Drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • "/Rotate" keyword in PDF files is ignored in Keynote and Pages

    Hi,
    Some PDF files have "/Rotate" tag in their header to display a part of pages or whole pages being rotated. For example, if a PDF has "/Rotate 90" in the header, pages of the file are shown with being rotated 90 degree clock wise. This keyword is valid in Acrobat, Preview.app, MS Office and many other applications. However, the "/Rotate" keyword is ignored in Keynote and Pages.
    Here is examples of PDF which include /Rotate tag. Please save the following text in a file whose extension is ".pdf".

    Both of PDFs are displayed in Keynote with a size of 612 x 792 pixel. But the example 2 should be 792 x 612 because it has "/Rotate 90" tag in it.
    Does anyone know how to avoid this problem? Of course I know that I can rotate the example 2 by hand in those applications.

  • Websites not loading correctly and flash videos not playing

    When I visit sites like '''ign.com''' and '''joystiq.com''', they do not display correctly and Flash videos never load. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled twice to version 9.0.1 with no change. The second time I used Revo Uninstaller Pro to help make sure I got rid of all registry entries and residual files. Does anyone know if this is a recent bug? This started for me about noon yesterday...

    Not loading correctly in what way?
    Can you attach a screenshot?
