Mini Dvi to S-video/Composite/RCA

I have a 2007 black macbook and recently bought a Mini-DVI to video adapter (brand-dynex) and hooked it up to my older television (TV has no hdmi hookup or dvi, just S-Video and RCA) and I could faintly make out my computer screen but it was all "scratchy" and was moving across the screen. I changed the resolution and it became black and gray lines moving up and down the screen. I was wondering how can I hook my computer up to this older TV to watch movies online (I wont be upset with low quality). Do I need to purchase the Apple brand adapter or is there some "tweeking" I can do to make the Dynex one work? thanks

Honestly, I was afraid of this... Oh well, I bought it off ebay and got my money refunded so no harm done. Thanks for the help and if anyone can figure some application or anything and get their adaptor to work, please contact me thanks....

  • Mini dvi to s-video/composite adapter doesn't seem to work?

basically i'm trying to hook my rather new 2.53 ghz mac mini to my tv, which basically has rca inputs. so, having seen several laptops hooked to this tv as simply as using an s-video to composite adapter, i figured it would be as simple as getting the mini dvi to composite adapter and i'd be good. well, for some reason this doesn't seem to do anything. the other weird thing is that when i hook the cable from the composite adapter to the tv, i get a buzz out of the speakers as the connection is being made. why is a video signal having anything to do with the audio? plugging my playstation 2 into the same input works fine. why the difference?

That's the setup I've used. Works great for video and photos, but webpage text can be difficult to read.
I used the yellow composite input rather than the s-video. My old tv is inside an “entertainment center” type tv stand and is so friggin heavy, it’s a pain in the axx to move, so I just used the composite plug on the front of my tv. Since the Mac mini is sitting in front of the tv it works great:-)

  • Mini DVI to S-video/Composite hooked to a projector

    Hi all,
I have recently opted to sell my PB 17 as I was tired of having a brick on my back all the time.
I hoped apple would do a new 12' but alas it didn't happen.
In any way, I mostly use my book for clients presentations.
I am having an awful problem.
I bought a minidvi to svideo, and connected it to different projectors and chose the right res for the task!
everything on the screen (projector) is blurred as ****.
I cannot manage to get a crisp picture from the projector and this is very annoying.
I am buffed up with the max ram on a blackbook.
this is very annoying as this is the main task i require my book to do.
Is there any way to get this thing working using svideo
    thanX in advance
    JM

Plug it in using miniDVI (or whatever it is on the Macbook) to VGA adapter
    much better quality then
I do it at home with my PB 17" and projector
(getting MacBook too and will buy miniDV to VGA adapter for that too)

  • Problems with Mini DVI to S-Video/RCA adapter

    Hello
I've got a mac mini and I want to pass its image to a television (note: this television doesn't have HDMI)
I've bought the Mini DVI to S-Video/RCA adapter, but when I connect it to my TV nothing appers (except some gray lines, which means the signal is reaching the TV, but no image)
    Thanks

That connector may not be compatible with an Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Mini like yours.

The Apple Mini-DVI to Video adapter is designed for use with the iMac (Intel Core Duo), MacBook*, and 12-inch PowerBook G4.

  • Need to convert mini dvi to s video to run a school's Hatiachi ceiling mount projector. What is the proper adapter?

Need to convert mini dvi to s video to run a school's Hatiachi ceiling mount projector. What is the proper adapter?

Check the projector and see what kind of input is has, most have a VGA connector, so you would need a male to male VGA. You will also need the Mac mini dvi to male VGA (of course).
Some of the older projetors have a component in only, which is the red, yellow, green, RCA connectors, which are avaialable. (Usually the are fairy short, 5 ft or so,  so you would need to get a VGA with yhe mini DVI to VGA, and a component (the one with the 3 RCA's) you will probaly have to get a Female to Female VGA adapter to connect te VGA to the component.
And finaally if that weren't enough, the really old projectors have only a composite input. All I can say about that is "the hunt is on"
    Best of luck

  • Mini DVI to S-video display problem

I connect my macbook to a plasma TV using mini DVI to S-video adapter so I can give keynote presentations. All of a sudden, having not changed any settings, the plasma display went to black & white while my macbook's display remains in color. I have checked with two different s-video cables and with another TV, as well as trying to change the color display in my system preferences, but after several hours have given up. Anyone else have this problem or have any thoughts on how to alleviate it? Thanks
    Hungus

A wire may have broken inside the mini DVI to S-video adapter. S-video uses one wire for the brightness, and one for the color information. If the color wire breaks you will get a black and white picture. Until Apple replaces the adapter, you could use the composite video output, but the picture will not be as sharp.

  • Mini-DVI to S-video adapter and no colour on TV screen

I just purchased a mini-DVI to S-video adapter for my MacBook. I want to connect it to my TV through my DVD/Video player.
I do get a nice picture on the TV and I can manage it in the screen settings panel, BUT the TV-screen doesn't show any colour, just black and white. Why?
I've tried several settings in the Preferences panel, but no luck. What to do?

The cable is brand new and I've checked it with a mulitmeter. It's OK.
I've also heard that this is a fairly common problem with S-video and I got a tip to try the composite video instead. It worked beautifully, so now I've got nice and crisp video in full colour on my TV!

  • Mini DVI to S-Video B&W only!!

I bought a Mini DVI to S-Video adapter and a S-video to RCA cable to hook my MacBook up to my TV, but when I plug it in I can only see it in Black and White. I checked System Prefs>Displays and tried out several different profiles, to no avail. FWIW the audio seems to be fine.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

In my experience when you try to connect an s-video source to a TV you need the TV to be able to accept s-video signals or it does come out black and white.
One of my televisions has front inputs which consist of one s-video plus the standard three phonos. If i dont tell the tv its an s-video cable the image is black and white.I had the same kinda thing with an older tv when using a scart convertor which had s-video input. I had to use the correct scart socket which was the one that supported s-video and then tell the tv it was s-video by switching to AV2/S instead of just AV2.

  • When I unplug Mini-dvi to S-video adapter mouse often disappears

When I unplug my mini-dvi to s-video/rca adapter, the mouse cursor often disappears. This results in me having to restart the computer. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

At what resolution? Have you tried different ones?

  • I am attempting to plug my mac into my tv. I am using the mini dvi to s video adapter. When I plug it in, the display goes all wonky and becomes stretched and enlarged.

When I attempt to connect my mac to the monitor using a mini dvi to s video adapter the display becomes enlarged and stretched. I cannot seem to fix this using the system preferences or the quick keys that allow you to zoom in on the display. Any suggestions?

I am using MAC OSx 10.5.8 (9L31a) as my operation system.  The TV says "No signal.  Check connected device's power, cable connection and source selection."  Seems to me that that goes in hand with what the Samsung tech said about the Mac needing to be forces to use the external display.  But how do I do that?

  • Mini dvi to Component Video adapter !

    Help !
Where Can I Find "mini dvi to Component Video adapter" ?
    Help !

"there is no such thing in apple store"
    I MAID,
Begging your pardon, but I just tried the above linked Search Results, and what you seek is apparently on the list, as the search was performed exactly as you specified. You can read the description of the various items for sale and tell us what is different about the one that you need. That way we can perform a new search for you, or, in the alternative, you can search for yourself. If the Apple Store doesn't have what you want, search CompUSA.

  • Mini-DVI to S-Video resolution

I've plugged my Mini-DVI to S-Video adapter into the MacBook, but there is only limited selection of resolutions available in the NTSC/PAL preference pane. My Mac mini S-Video adapter has options for 16:9 output, but the MacBook only lists the following (none are 16:9 resolutions):
    640 x 480
    720 x 480
    720 x 576
    800 x 600
    1024 x 768
Any ideas how I can get the MacBook to output 16:9 widescreen via the S-Video adapter?
    Thanks very much, Rich

Thanks namke, had no idea that rectangular pixels were employed to achieve widescreen on a TV - you learn something new everyday!
I wondered what other MacBook users get when they plug in the mini dvi to s-video adpater because 16:9 resolution is an option when a DVI adapter is plugged into my Mac mini (e.g. 1024 x 576), but not my MacBook.

  • Mini-DVI to S-Video Adapter doesn't work

Hi, I am using the Mini-DVI to S-Video adapter from apple to connect my macbook to the TV. But the only thing I get is a grey flickering picture on my TV. When I click on the monitor-button I can see that my macbook detects only a monitor (but not a TV) in addition to the macbook-LCD-display. I tried all different resolutions, but needless to say it doesn't work.
Can the adapter be broken, or is there a problem with the macbook?
Macbook white 2 GHz Intel Core Duo 1GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

my macbook detects only a monitor (but not a TV) in addition to the macbook-LCD-display
If you connect the Mini-DVI to S-Video adapter, the monitor button on the menubar should show resolutions for Color LCD in one section and NTSC/PAL in the other.
A grey flickering picture is indicative of picking the wrong standard-PAL vs. NTSC.

  • Mini dvi to s-video adapter

  • Mini-DVI to s-video: black bar on left side

    Hi,
When outputting video through "the mini-DVI to s-video adapter" i have a black bar on the left side of my television.
It seems like the 1024*768 resolution is not able to completely fit the 4:3 area of my television (the image is to small).
    any ideas?
    thanks!

I'm absolutely sure everything is displaying and that the image is not deformed in any way.
So my conclusion is that the image is just smaller (in every dimension) than it should be and than it was before.
I will try a lower resolution later today.
thanks for your help and interest!
