    Killer DoubleShot Pro introduction
Recently MSI launched new gaming motherboard. They improved the network design, from Intel Wifi module to Killer Wifi module on X99S GAMING 9 AC and Z97 GAMING 9 AC. These two models also rename to X99S GAMING 9 ACK and Z97 GAMING 9 ACK which featured Killer DoubleShot. MSI add more red color in I/O cover design which can be easily identified.
Killer DoubleShot Pro- Improve internet connection to next level!
There are 2 benefits of using Killer LAN and Killer WiFi at same time. First of all, the bandwidths combine together and up to 1,866 Mbps – LAN via cable internet is 1,000 Mbps and Wifi is 866 Mbps.
Secondly, Killer DoubleShot Pro features Smart Teaming, a new function powered by Killer Network Manager. It can auto detect network usage and allocate bandwidth to all running applications, gives you full optimization and most effective deployment. These priorities can also be set manually. It is really user-friendly.
Please stay tuned, I will introduce you how to do the settings of Killer Network Manager, and also bring you the performance comparison between Killer Lan and Intel Lan later.

    seems complex~~
looking forward to the introduction of Killer Network Manager settings!! thanks.

  • Will baby oil kill macbook pro? It is still working and I do not know if I should do anything orr just pray?

In a bedroom accident, the wife and I spilled baby oil into my MacBook Pro. (let the jokes begin)
Amazingly, it still works fine. I know that is a scented mineral oil and that it is not too conductive.
I took it to our local apple dealer, who said it only has a month to live. While I never thought it would even start, I am now wondering if he was right.
Would you please address the folowiing questions
    1. Should I do anything? if so, what?
    2. Should I expect it to continue to live?
    3. Is there any REAL danger other than killing the computer?
I have already backed up data, and am draining tthe oil to the best of myy ability.

Surprisingly enough, a popular project is for people to make systems completely submerged in mineral oil.  It is a very poor conductor:
    http://www.google.com/search?q=mineral+oil+computer&sugexp=chrome,mod=9&sourceid =chrome&ie=UTF-8
The problem is that those systems are designed to remain in the oil.  Once you get something like oil on a system that's used in a more traditional sense, you can expect dust and other contaminants to build up quickly.  There's not really much you can do to prevent that.  Over time, that build up can result in cooling or other issues.  If it gets in fans or other moving parts, over time, build up can cause them to fail as well.

  • Can't write to external hard drive, kills MacBook Pro

I got a SimpleTech SimpleDrive 1TB for an external drive. It's formatted for PC but I was able to format it for Mac with no problem and read and write small files to/from it. But data that is larger than 80-90MB will not work—at that point the progress bar ceases and will not close. I can force-quit Finder but Finder will not reboot and at that point I can only kill the power. The Finder has also hung when opening a folder on this drive. After reboot the drive does not mount and I have to turn its power off and on for it to appear.
I did try to zero out the drive but aborted that after 3 hours. I figured that would have zeroed out anything on the drive but it changed nothing. What should I try next?
    Jeremy

Yes, I formatted it as OS Extended (Journaled).
Overnight I let Disk Utility run and zero out the entire drive. It took 10 hours and at the end it then prepared to erase but had another error: Input/Output Error. It now appears the drive has reverted to the factory defaults (MS-DOS (FAT) format, Master Boot Record) and is unusable. I am going to return it.

  • Lion kills SoundTrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro and Color

After installing Lion on my cloned boot drive FCP 7.0.3 runs but SoundTrack pro, DVD Studio Pro and Color return an error message indicating Lion can't run PowerPC programs. They also have a white slashed circle over them indicating they aren't compatible.
This wasn't a widely advertised restriction of Lion prior to its release.
I'm thankful I have a fully operating Snow Leopard installation.

I don't know why you would have the PowerPC-only versions installed on an intel machine?  It's very weird, because they should be Universal. This may mean that you were running those apps using Rosetta under Snow Leopard, but Rosetta isn't installed with Lion. You should just re-install from the FCS3 DVD and the proper Intel versions will be placed in your Applications folder.
I just launched every FCS3 app under Lion and they all work fine, except for Cinema Tools (which unexpectedly quit.)

  • Yosemite killed my Pro Tools Dongle!

So I updated my iMac to Yosemite and now Pro Tools will not recognize my dongle. What gives, guys? Pro Tools is an integral part of my business. It HAS to run. How do we resolve this problem?

    Dear anonymous,
at the risk of sounding rude, it is elementary to check version compatibility before upgrading any OS major version.
And the next step to sanity is to see if there are compatible updates, like Pro Tools 11.3.
If that does not help, the best place is the pro tools forum and support.
    Regards, Andreas

  • Last updates killed MacBook pro

Just did the last software updates and iv had the grey screen with the apple and spinning thing for over an hour help

Took my MacBook Pro to the Apple shop they said the hard drive had died and replaced it. Laptop was only a few months old :-( didn't lose to much data but I'm still setting everything back up.

  • IPhone killed Macbook Pro 15

Everything was working fine and the iPhone 4s and the Macbook were talking.  Then I asked iTunes to sync with the iPhone.  It appeared to be working and suddenly the Macbook shut down.  The Macbook was very hot.  After it cooled down, it makes the chord but would not start beyond that and continues to be stuck on the flashing no sign and the apple.
    Please help!

It's unfortunate that those are very similiar to symptoms of a failing hard drive. If something melted, it probably wouldn't make that sound when you turn it on, it's a power on self test. Do you have the disks that came with your computer, you should try to boot from them and run the Disk Utility on the drive, just in case it wasn't an iTunes anomoly.

  • 10.5.8 Update Killed Mac Pro

I was prompted to apply updates for MacOS & Safari. 10.5.8 was the OS patch version. Dialogue to proceed and then status dialogue cam up with message 'Running Update Scripts' or words to that effect, and a progress bar, it sat at about 25% for over an hour, not budging, appeared to be hung. I powered off the LT, and when I powered back up I get what looks like a stack trace with errors(grey screen) and a message in the center of screen saying I need to hit the reset or power button to restart the machine. Of course when I do so the same thing happens. I sure hope there's a way to rescue this thing, it's a BUSINESS TOOL! I have a pretty recent Time Machine backup, but I don't know if that includes a system image, and besides it's on a USB drive, and the machine doesn't look like it's getting out of Run level 0, not getting very far at all into the boot sequence.

I've just had a very similar experience. Got prompted to do the 10.5.8 update, which downloaded fine. The reboot happened, and the progress bar ran to about 25% and stopped.
I gave it a ton of time ... went to a movie and came back, and it was still at 25%. So I did a forced restart, and it came up in a kernel panic that said the CPU and kernel were mismatched. Did all the standard tricks: unplugged the power cord for a while, reseated the graphics cards, drives and memory.
But here's the weird part: it won't boot from a Leopard CD either. I get the same error messages when that happens.
    Any ideas?

Considerably improved over the GT70, purchased from Ken at GenTech PC, I am one of the first official GT72 owners on the planet.
So, what improvements does the GT72 bring to the table?
     1. Improved chassis design.
     2. Larger touchpad, smooth and seamless with the palm rest.
     3. A large, cool to the touch, glass-like polymer palm rest.
     4. More USB 3.0 ports.
     5. A 230W PA.
     6. A 1080p webcam
     7. Revised Steelseries keyboard, flex-free, with brighter back-lighting.
     8. Dual fan cooling solution, with improved chassis vent design, a better fan control profile, ergo.....
     9. Better overall temps, with quieter operation.
     10. Re-designed chassis, and finally a new model designation.
     11. Gone is the problematic capacitance touch bar, replaced with positive touch switches.
     12. Gone is finicky Optimus switching, replaced with a simple dedicated GPU switch.
     13. mSATA SuperRAID 2, is replaced with M.2 SuperRAID 3, increasing speed, and the capacity of the RAID set. ( M.2 should improve significantly with the Intel 9-Series chipset)
     14. Killer Doubleshot Pro, wherein Ethernet and Wireless can be used independently, or simultaneously for improved bandwidth.
     15. And finally, due to the overall re-design, a more intuitive gaming experience.

    Initial thoughts......
Well, here it is..... the MSI GT72-2PE Dominator Pro-007US, and the photos below do not do it justice. It's Bold, it's Bad, it's Fast, it's Powerful, and honestly, there is not much, not to like about this notebook. If there is one thing I feel could have been better, it would be the display. The Chi Mei CMN1735 has good brightness, color, and contrast, but lacks decent viewing angles.
Anyhow, I have already spent a lot of time with tweaking, photos, benchmarks, etc., so I am going to cut-to-the-chase, and try to make this as short as possible.
As to performance, the benchmarks below attest to the GT72's awesomeness, so what about noise, and the redesigned dual-fan cooling solution? Simply put, it is quieter than the GT70, has a better fan profile, and temps are well managed. Given the hardware, of course you will hear the fans spin up when the system is stressed, but it is not at all disturbing..... and when doing common task, the fans are only noticed if you get close and cozy with the system. Ambient room temperature was 78F, and the system's idle temps were CPU@38C, and GPU@36C. Without the use of Cooler Booster ('stock' fan profile only), during benchmarks the CPU reached 78C, and the GPU averaged 80C, peaking to 82C during the 3DMark Sky Diver benchmark. The palm rest remains cool to the touch, it's polymer is smooth as glass, and it's surface is seamless across the touchpad. Only a mild warmth rises from the keyboard.
The Steelseries keyboard is indeed flex-free, keys are very positive and responsive, and the back-lighting is brighter..... which I attribute to the keyboard's re-design. Looks awesome!
So what about SuperRAID 3, is it fast? Oh YEAH! Performance exceeds SuperRAID 2, as expected, and the system boots to desktop in as little as 6 to 7 seconds. HD Tune Pro reports an average read time for the Toshiba M.2 SSD's, as 1535MB/s..... while the previous SuperRAID 2 Sandisk X100 mSATA SSD's was an average of 1411MB/s. On the other hand, SuperRAID 3 really shines in the Crystal Disk Mark scores. To best evaluate the 'Real-World' performance of SuperRAID 3, I used the PCMark 8 Storage Test. For those unfamiliar with this benchmark, the performance score of 5014 is very respectible. The duration of this grueling benchmark is generally 1 to 3 hours, and the GT72 sped through in just 1 hour and 8 minutes. All in all, I applaud MSI's use of the new M.2 SSD's, but I think performance will most improve with future 9-Series Intel chipsets.
With all the attributes I've mentioned above, it is when gaming, that you understand the mastery of it's intuitive design. The re-designed flex-free keyboard, the large smooth & heat-free palm rest, the spatial Dynaudio speakers, and vivid display, all lend to an immersive gaming experience. So much so, I found myself playing my test game, far longer than originally intended.
To run the GT72 through it's paces, I chose the recently released, AMD optimized title, Sniper Elite III, by Rebellion. With settings max'ed to 'Ultra', the GTX-880M smoothly sliced through the frames like a hot knife to butter, with frame-rates from 54 to 82Fps, averaging at 65Fps. Game play was extremely smooth and fluid, and never a hic-cup or artifact.
To represent the 'Out-of-the-Box' experience, I played with the stock fan profile, and Cooler Booster was never used. Like with my benchmark testing, the fan noise was not disturbing, and game audio though the Dynaudio speakers easily comes to the forefront. Fan noise was never a distraction. Temps of the GPU peaked to 82C, but averaged 64C, and the CPU peaked at 68C, averaging 54C. Again, with hardware like this, and without the use of Cooler Booster, these temps are outstanding.... and the new dual fan design is a success!
Initially I intended my game session to be an hour..... in no time it became 3+ hours, and playing on this notebook is simply FUN!
The look and feel is very stylish, and smooth finish is actually somewhat fingerprint resistant. Overall, with these great looks, it's fully loaded system specs, and stellar performance scores, the MSI GT72 Dominator Pro not only entitles bragging rights..... it DEMANDS them!
All of this has me VERY excited for the upcoming next-gen 9-Series, Maxwell, X-treme Edition GT72! Can't wait!
    Enjoy!

    ↑ On ENTRY level
    ↑ On PERFORMANCE level
    ↑ On XTREAME level
Besides on gaming performance, it's very important to make sure it support casual works as well.

↑ On PCmark 8 CREATIVE for experts and proffesionals: 5445
↑ On PCmark 8 WORK for some simple office productivity test: 4401
↑ On PCmark 8 STORAGE to test SSD & HDD: 5017, and getting a average 330 MB/s Storage bandwidth.
At last, we'll be doing CPU heat test:
↑ Before we run the test, the cores temperature is around 40 degrees, and 33 degrees on hard disk.
↑ After we had run for a 30 minutes maxed performance test, with full fans on, we're getting 75 - 80 degrees on CPU cores and unbelievable still 33 degrees on hard disk.
To be honest, after tried on GT72 Dominator PRO, I just can't live without it anymore.
The BattleField 4 running smoothly with photoshop on background, I can finally play some video games while taking a break on my photo editing and graphic design works, in the coffee shop of course.
Although it looks pretty heavy, but it's actually much portable than I thought, in facts it's phenomenal thin for such a powerful performance beast.
Carry around with the backpack it provided isn't a difficult task at all.
Besides, one last thing to show:
↑ Sexiest design that let the heats never became an issue anymore.

yeah.... with so much different angle and good quality, they are truly good photo shooting pieces!

We put all the accessories together and boot up to check further detail on GT60 Dominator Pro 3K IPS version! The display quality is vivid.
Let’s take a look on the detail spec., 384GB SSD Super RAID, Intel Core i7 4800MQ @ 2.7GHz, top level GTX880M 8GB GDDR5 graphics, 32GB RAM. It’s all top level and could use for 3 more years of ultra-quality games!
When first time to use MSI gaming notebooks, you will feel amazing about the SteelSeries keyboard is really good typing feeling and solid based. It comes with multi-color backlit and move the windows key to right side, that really professional design as a gaming notebook keyboard, and the only one with real gaming design.
Take a look in the SteelSeries Engine, the exclusive gaming software only for MSI gaming notebooks. This macro keys software built in Keypress macro, Text macro, 1 key launch program and Disable key function, besides F1~F12, all other keys could be used for macros setup, and 4 layers of keyboards o setup 4 sets of macros with 4 sets of different backlit combinations, so this is really a great software for smarter and stylish gaming experience.
With CPU-Z tool to check, the upgraded Intel Core i7 4800MQ @ 2.7GHz, TDP 47W, 4 Cores 8 Threads is really great performance, CPU Boost could up to 3.5~3.7GHz.
Because of Core i7 4800MQ and GTX880M, the 3D benchmarks comes with breakthrough scores than ever on the notebook platform, 3D Mark Fire Strike: P5351 pts.
The GT60 Dominator Pro on 3D Mark 11 gains P8461 pts, it’s whole new level of the gaming notebooks, and It’s over 15% faster than GTX780M!
The 3D Mark Vantage boost up to P33115 scores, it’s 14% faster than GTX780M!
Then we check on other software of DirectX11 3D performance, the Heaven Benchmark is world’s 1st software tool to test DirectX11 effects, this time we use Heaven Benchmark version 3.0 to test.
Set the Tessellation on normal to enable DirectX11 effects and run Benchmark, the Full HD resolution could get 78.2 FPS(Frames Per Second) high score result.
Since this GT60 is 3K IPS panel edition, of course we have to try 3K resolution, you could see that the result block is smaller at 2880x1620 resolution, the result is 42.7 FPS with same setup, so we could say that 3K resolution will reduce over 45% of the FPS rate in this test, but GTX880M is too powerful, so still over 40FPS, and most games we need to get over 30 FPS to play and feel smoother, at least 20 FPS to play a game, if lower than 20 FPS, that will makes people feel lag obviously and feel dizzy easily.
Since we tried some benchmark, of course we have to try at least a famous game to the real world experience. Battlefield 4, the biggest FPS game title since end of 2013, is one of the heaviest loading games on PC platform.
First we made Battlefield 4 detail at 1920x1080 with Ultra Graphics Quality setup.
The gaming frames is 46 FPS, really smooth and around 20% faster than GTX780M.
Once we tune up the resolution to 2880x1620, the FPS drops a lot because the Ultra mode also set 4xMSAA (Anti-Aliasing), that will impact the performance a lot in higher resolution, also make graphics memory demand around 3GB~4GB, seems the 8GB GDDR5 with GTX880M is prepared for upcoming games with such as 3K or even higher resolutions!
We could see it’s about 24~28 FPS under 3K resolution with Ultra Graphics Quality, most time it will reduce over 40% FPS rate of the gaming performance.
Seems to set the Battlefield 4 with “High” graphics quality on 2880x1620 resolution is more suitable to play the game smoother in every theme.
It’s about 42 FPS, close to the 1920x1080 Ultra graphics quality. So if we want to play heavy loading games at 2880x1620 resolution, set to High graphics quality setup is a good option for 3K gaming!
After these 3D and gaming tests, let’s take a look on the temperature of the cooling system. The room temperature is 25 degree C, the temperature of fan out part is 71.2 degree C, it’s not a surprise because of GTX880M and Core i7 4800MQ, even it’s a bit lower than most gaming notebooks with this 2 combinations. The palm rest and keyboard side is 30.6 degree C, it’s really cool for users to hands on.
After the fabulous experience of great 3D performance, let’s take a look on the benefits of “Super RAID 2”, normal 2.5” HDD is about 80~100MB/s, single SSD is about 400~550MB/s, BUT, GT60 Dominator Pro boost over 1536MB/s and average is 1477MB/s, that’s 15x faster than single HDD, almost 3x faster than single SSD.
If we check on the AS SSD Benchmark tests, you could see more detail of the storage access performance is amazing, the Sequential read is 1116.76MB/s, write is 786.79MB/s. 4K-64Thrd read is 665.09MB/s, write is 461.18MB/s, it’s ultra fast!
The GT60 Dominator Pro 3K IPS edition comes with Killer Doubleshot LAN and WiFi, it provides faster response time of gaming experience, when you at different LAN/WiFi environment, Killer software will ask you to make an internet speed test, this will fine tune your LAN/WiFi for smoother and faster online experience.
MSI also got a new software tool called “Dragon Gaming Center”, this tool is also good for hardware monitor and utility launch tool. Also could show the status of Hybrid Power enable or disable.
The ultimate weapon for enthusiast gamers:
The GT60 2PE Dominator Pro 3K IPS version is extremely powerful, it comes with most of the features that a great gaming notebook could have, 3K IPS panel is really great effect of vision quality, SteelSeries keyboard with SSE is amazing for gamers to play their games smarter, Sound By Dybaudio present really good detail sound quality, Killer Doubleshot is faster for online gaming, of course the GTX880M is awesome for gamer to play Full HD even 3K resolution games, the backlit of Dragon logo and keyboard is really beautiful.
    Conclusion:
The overall score I will give this GT60 2PE Dominator Pro 3K IPS edition with Super Pack is 95 out of 100, this is really great machine for any hard core gaming or power user usage, I would recommend any one to must-have this notebook if it’s affordable for you!!

Ok either you work for MSI or you changed the settings in 3dmark11. I only scored around 5K with my GT60 2PE 3k. Any idea why I'm scoring 3k below you? Laptop was plugged in btw. Also how can you enter bios settings with this laptop? I suspect that maybe the hybrid gpu thing is affecting my score, and the Pc is probably not fully utilizing the GTX 880M, maybe in bios I can disable the integrated CPU's video card??? Please let me know. Thanks.

  • Where is my Quicktime Pro?

I have FCP installed and was just looking at Quicktime and noticed that all mt QT Pro features are gone. There is no export feature and the "Save As" options are minimal.
Did a recent Upgrade to the latest Quicktime kill my Pro features? I have tried to reinstall FCP, but since all the components are already installed, it won't let re-install.

OK, apparently installing Quicktime 10 (which doesn't support the Pro features) deletes Quicktime 7. Problem was solved by finding a Snowleopard version of QT 7.6 on the Apple downloads section.
