Know Exceptions thrown in Java Finalizer thread...
Hello,
I have one question regarding java finalizer thread.
How can i know about exceptions thrown by finalize method which has been called from the finalizer thread of JVM?.
Any help would be appreciated?
Thanks and Regards

Because, in my application, i am writing finalize methods for each and every object to null out the member variable. I want to make sure that each of those methods work perfactly. I mean, does any of them throws exception OR not.What? Why are you doing that? That sounds pretty stupid. The GC will take care of those objects.

Exceptions thrown when Java Class is imported.
hi
This problem comes when I imported a java class in forms 6i. To dig out problem, I made a simple "Hello World" class, import it to forms, use it. It works fine in client/server and on web as well. BUT when i close the form on web (only)by exiting from browser, it throws as exception. message appeared on screen is as
"ifweb60.ese -- Application error
"The exception unknown software exception occurred in the application at location ..."
I m using forms 6i with patch 4a, this problem is occurring with every java class. I even used ORA_JAVA.delete_global_ref( object), after using java class. but i doubt that object could n't deleted with it. cuz after using delete method, i checked the object with ORA_JAVA.IS_NULL and it is not found null :)
Any one, who has come across this problem and got soln, please help me
Thanks

nullBola,
This is a benign warning message, but indeed a bug. It is currently being tracked
as CR059395 internally. It did not make it into the upcoming 3.5 sp2. If this
problem is causing you trouble, you may wish to request a patch through your Support
channel.

Catching an exception thrown from another thread
I have a SocketServer that creates new threads to handle incoming clients. If one of the threads throw a SQLException is it possible to catch that exception in the SocketServer that created that thread.
I tried implementing this code and I cannot get the server to catch an exception thrown in the thread. Are my assumptions correct?
I was reading something about Thread Groups and implementing an uncoughtException() method, but this looked like overkill.
Thanks for your time!
Some Example code would be the following where the ClientThread will do a database query which could cause an SQLException. I'd like to catch that exception in my Socket Server
try
new ClientThread( socketServer.accept() , host, connection ).start();
catch( SQLException e )
System.out.println( "DataSource Connection Problem" );
e.printStackTrace();
}hehe, why?
The server's job is to listen for an incoming message from a client and pass it off to a thread to handle the client. Otherwise the server will have to block on that incoming port untill it has finished handling the client and usually there are many incoming clients continuously.
The reason I would want to catch an exception in the server based on the SQLException thrown in the thread is because the SQLException is usually going to be due to the fact the datasource connection has become unavalable, or needs to be refreshed. This datasource connection is a private variable stored in the socket server. The SocketServer now needs to know that it has to refresh that datasource connection. I would normally try to use somesort of flag to set the variable but to throw another wrench into my dilemma, the SocketServer is actually its own thread. So I can't make any of these variables static, which means I can't have the thread call a method on teh socket server to change the status flag. :)
I guess I need implement some sort of Listener that the thread can notify when a datasource connection goes down?
Thanks for the help so far, I figured java would not want one thread to catch another thread's exceptions, but I just wanted to make sure. -

why this function is running fine when i m calling this from client unlike getAllBallProxies() nevertheless both are returning the same thing:

Please make the effort to express yourself clearly. You've already been told you're not making much sense and you haven't done anything about it.
how can we make serialized?The concept of serializing a Thread makes no sense whatsoever. You don't want to do it. You don't need to do it. You can't do it. It wouldn't work if you could do it.
Somewhere or other you have a class member that is a reference to a Thread. Remove it or make it transient. If you post the code somebody may help you. If you don't, nobody can possibly do that. -

Java.lang.thread exception while using Xalan 2.0 in WLS 6.0
Hi, I'm trying to use Xalan 2.0 in a servlet hosted by WLS. Ive
modified Xalan's SimpleTransform sample to be a servlet. I
create a Transformer with the .xsl, then call tranform() to
print the tranformed xml to the response stream. The xml is
tranformed correctly, but it throws a java.lang.thread
exception. The standalone Xalan sample doesn't do this. Anyone
else seen this problem?
Here's the code of interestest, I apologize if its not formatted very well:
public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res) throws IOException
PrintWriter out = res.getWriter();
res.setContentType("text/html");
out.println("<html><head><title>XalanTest<title></head>");
out.println("<body><h1>XalanTest</h1>");
try{
TransformerFactory tFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
StreamSource ss = new StreamSource("file:\\\\My-path\\birds.xsl");
Transformer transformer = tFactory.newTransformer(ss);
StreamResult SR = new StreamResult(out);
transformer.transform(new StreamSource("file:\\\\My-path\\birds.xml"), SR );
catch(Exception e){
out.println("<p>" + e.toString() + "</p>");
e.printStackTrace(out);
out.println("<p>Exception</p>");
out.println("</body></html>");It also looks like the workaround suggested does not work.
I put the following code as workaround:
response.setContentType("text/html");
response.setHeader ("Pragma", "no-cache");
Transformer transformer;
TransformerFactory factory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
String stylesheet = "config\\closs\\applications\\webroot\\jsp\\example\\Load2.xsl";
String sourceId = "config\\closs\\applications\\webroot\\jsp\\example\\Load2.xml";
String outputFile = "config\\closs\\applications\\webroot\\jsp\\example\\Load2.html";
String outputDirectFile = "config\\closs\\applications\\webroot\\jsp\\example\\Load2_Direct.html";
try
PrintWriter fout = new PrintWriter (new FileOutputStream (outputFile));
OutputStream os = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
transformer = factory.newTransformer(new StreamSource(stylesheet));
transformer.transform(new StreamSource(sourceId), new StreamResult(outputDirectFile));
transformer.transform(new StreamSource(sourceId), new StreamResult(os));
os.flush ();
os.close();
out.print(os.toString());
fout.print (os.toString ());
fout.flush ();
fout.close ();
catch (Exception e)
// Error Handler
e.printStackTrace();
The two .html files produced look exactly the same, which is good.
However, the screen output to my html browser (Internet Explorer 5.50 sp1) produces
different output.
That is strange, but that shows that this bug does not have a known workaround

I have the same problem with java sun xml parser (jaxp 1-1)
It is interesting to know that all this perfectly works under weblogic
5.1, so
I cannot migrate my application to 6.0
So, the functionality of weblogic 6.0 degraded since 5.1.
I cannot buy the explanation that that is not bea's fault, because it
perfectly
worked with the same version of xml parser.
Now, their customer support is saying they have not decided whether this
is a
bug or a feature.
Interesting to know that degradation of functionality could be a feature!
It is now June 21, 3 months since this bug was reported, sp2 was shipped
since
that time, and this bug is still there.

at
org.apache.xalan.transformer.TransformerImpl.run(TransformerImpl.java:2894)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:484)
What happened is: to support incremental output, Xalan-Java performs
the
transformation in a second thread while building the source tree inthe
main
thread. So Transformer.transform() creates a new thread to run the
transformer.run() method, which will write to weblogic's internal
ServletOutputStreamImpl, and in the end calls flush() on it.
ServletOutputStreamImpl determines that the headers haven't been written
yet, and the headers need to be written before any servlet output, so
it
calls ServletResponseImpl.writeHeaders(), which eventually calls
ResponseHeaders.setDateHeader(). The last method assumes the thread
is
weblogic's internal ExecuteThread and tries to cast the thread as such,
maybe to get the date from it. But the thread is a plain java.lang.Thread
created by xalan, thus we get the java.lang.ClassCastException:
java.lang.Thread
This suggests a second workaround: call ServletResponse.flushBuffer()
before any xalan stuff, which will force the headers to be written in
weblogic's ExecuteThread. The shortcoming of this is that this will
cause
the response to be commited, and if the xalan stuff throws exception
you can
not forward to another page.
Another thing is that xalan should not directly call flush() on
ServletOutputStreamImpl at all. I will report it to xalan and see if
they
consider that a bug. If they fix that then we have a third workaround:
set
the buffer size of ServletResponse big enough to accomodate everything
including the xslt outputs, so the ServletOutput does not need to be
flushed
during xalan code.
I do not consider this problem a weblogic bug, since the servlet container
has to right to expect any thread inside it to be its own. Serlvet2.2
spec
says:
1.2 What is a Servlet Container?
A Servlet Container may place security restrictions on the environment
that
a servlet executes in. In
a Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 1.2 (J2SE) or Java 2 Platform Enterprise
Edition 1.2 (J2EE)
environment, these restrictions should be placed using the permission
architecture defined by Java 2
Platform. For example, high end application servers may limit certain
action, such as the creation of
a Thread object, to insure that other components of the container are
not
negatively impacted.
Weblogic should explicitly warn the developers that creating threads
inside
the servlet container may have adverse effects, the same kind of problem
we
are having. (or maybe they already did somewhere in their documentation?)
On the xalan side, I would suggest them to either give the option to
switch
the two threads, or to give the option to buffer the output and write
it out
in the main thread, which is exactly what you did in your first workaround.
Any comments or thoughts on the subject are welcome.

I found, what I think to be a bug, and a work-around for it.
When doing an XSLT Transformation, you must specify a StreamResult
to which to write the output. I was doing my transformation in
a
servlet so I was writing my output to the HttpResponse
(The variable res is a javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse
object)
StreamResult htmlTarget = new StreamResult(res.getWriter());
If I use this, when I perform the transformation using the TRAX
APIs,
InputStream xslFile = context.getResourceAsStream(fileName);
TransformerFactory tFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
Templates xslTemplates = tFactory.newTemplates(new StreamSource(xslFile));
transformer = xslTemplates.newTransformer();
transformer.transform(xmlSource, htmlTarget);
I receive the ClassCastException from the class
weblogic.servlet.internal.ResponseHeaders.setDateHeader(ResponseHeaders.java
:273),
as seen in my previous posting.
I discovered, if I write my output to a StringBuffer, and then
I write
the StringBuffer to the HttpResponse, I do not get the ClassCastException.
For example,
StringWriter myWriter = new StringWriter(2400);
StreamResult htmlTarget = new StreamResult(myWriter);
<Same transformation code as above>
myWriter.close();
PrintWriter out = res.getWriter();
out.print(myWriter.toString());
Is this a bug in the weblogic internal servlet class or am I just
missing something?
Also, one concern that I have with the workaround is that it might
hurt performance.
Any comments or thoughts on the subject are welcome. -

Any Ideas??
RegardsWell, have you run the app with logging set to fine as the message suggested?
Turn on fine level logging for a stack trace of this call. Component ID: {0}
Then a test case and a detailed description on how to reproduce the error, built on the hr schema, can help.

Finalizer Thread - java.lang.rOperating System
Can anyone please help me understand what is being conveyed by the finalizer portion of a thread dump:
"Finalizer" (TID:0x1669320, sys_thread_t:0x592180, state:CW, native ID:0xe6) prio=8
at java.lang.Object.wait(Native Method)
at java.lang.ref.ReferenceQueue.remove(ReferenceQueue.java, Compiled Code)
at java.lang.rOperating System: Windows NT Version 4.0
I have been unsuccessful in finding any information on how java.lang.rOperating System comes into play. When our finalizer thread looks like this within the thread dump, the Reference Handler and Signal Dispatcher threads do not appear at all within the dump. The thread dump is from a web application using JRun with IIS serving the web pages.
Thanks,

Hi,
Currently we have a custom devoloped Java application deployed in oracle iplanet webserver 7 with JDK 1.6. I am receiving the below errors. The application is not stable. It gives a 500 internal error sometimes when browsing. When i checked the error log. Below is the message.
CORE4007: Internal error: Unexpected Java exception thrown (java.lang.NullPointerException, no description), stack: java.lang.NullPointerException
Could you please throw some light on this.You need to fix your custom developed app since it is causing the errors and instability. Tell the developers to properly verify the input data and improve their exception handling so you get better error messages that tells you what went wrong.

Any idea to fix the error? Thanks in advance.i figured out the issue. Actually there was a method called findMaxId in one of my DAO and in the query i was using the actual column name instead of the id name.
any how thanks -
ERROR: ProviderCaller.run(): exception thrown from IMChannel
Not sure whether this is better addressed here or in the Instant Messaging forum.
Basically we're having a problem with the presence service in Portal Server, and it throws a huge exception stack when you do anything except have a blank contact list with noone logged in.
Portal Server, Access Manager, and IM Server are all installed on the same server in this configuration, and I've tried applying patches to the IM Server APIs to fix the problems to no avail.
JES 2005Q1
IM Server patched: 118787-01 118790-01
Portal server unpatched
Basically all of this is still a default install, with only minimal customization so customers don't have to configure anything.

We're looking to implement JES in the next month or so. I've seen mention of this error with other jaxen flavors, but none mentioning the JES Instant Messaging or Portal ServersDoes every checkbox have the same name, i.e. "sel".
In this case you're dealing with a checkbox group. Similar to a select-style dropdown or radio button group.
I know I've had problems with dropdowns in Netscape where the select parameter was not being passed at all, so I'd get null values. I got around this by having the form submission re-assign the value from the select list to a hidden variable and then getting the value from the request.getParameter("hiddenFieldName") instead of the "dropdownFieldName".
You could try to name each checkbox individually using an appended ID, such as sel1, sel2, etc. and then have these parameters picked up using a loop construct, request.getParameter("sel" + i) -- you may want to pass some value back that would also indicate how many total checkboxes you had so you could determine how many iterations of the loop to go through.
On the form side, you could probably set the checkboxes up using a similar looping mechanism so that you wouldn't have to explicitly write each checkbox name.
If this is in fact similar to the Netscape issue I was having with dropdowns, I'd be interested to hear if it'll work in IE.
I got a bit off-topic, but hope it helps. -
LiveConnect crashes browser???? External exception thrown.
Hey,
Im using an applet that sometimes calls liveconnect, specifically when the applet JFrame is closed, it has the browser navigate to another page.
This part works great. Then maybe 5 minutes later, and sporadically, IE will crash and put a file on my desktop (winXP).
Please let me know if you have any ideas, here's some code and the error file from the desktop:
try {
//gets the applet reference
JSObject win = JSObject.getWindow(
(Applet)MainMenu.getCurrentMenu().getParent());
//calls a javascript function, this part works great
Object answer = win.eval("appletGlue('" + theFunction
+ "', " + questionID + ",'" + param3 + "');");
