Labeling Columns in Text File

Still new to labview and learning - but having difficulty labeling the heading of the columns when writing to text file. I am trying to seperate 13 columns of text and tried a few solutions I have found on the boards, but not having any luck. All help is greatly appreciated.
I am also having problems where I have to delete the root directory address (C:/) before running the VI otherwise I get an error.

now what is your problem...format of the file? what is it that you want when you say headers? can you post a sample text file of what you want it to look like...this is your code and what it outputs, also put a wait(ms) function in your while loop (your using 100% of your cpu).

    hai,
    the Text file contains :
    m1 m2 m4 89
    m1 m2 m4 89
    m0 m4 m2 90
    I need one array for each column
    m[0]= m1,m1,m0 (first column from text file)
    m[1]= m2,m2,m2 (second column from text file)
    m[2]= 89,89,90 (third column from text file)
    andvance thanks

    If a 2D array is OK (instead of 4 separate arrays), try something like this
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    class FileReadColumns
      public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException, FileNotFoundException
        String line;
        ArrayList lines = new ArrayList();

        String bits[];
        bits = lines.get(0).toString().split(" ");
        String grid[][] = new String[bits.length][];
        for(int i=0;i<grid.length;i++)grid[i] = new String[lines.size()];
        for(int i = 0; i < lines.size(); i++)
          bits = lines.get(i).toString().split(" ");
          for(int ii = 0; ii < bits.length; ii++) grid[ii] = bits[ii];
    for(int i = 0; i < grid.length; i++)
    for(int ii=0;ii<grid[i].length;ii++)System.out.print(grid[i][ii]+" ");
    System.out.println();

  • Add time stamp array into first column of text file

    I am writing daq output to a file by using array to spreadsheet string vi then write that to a file but I would like to add a time stamp array into the first column of the text file. How do I do this?

    When you use a DAQmx Read, you have the option of returning a waveform data type. This includes time data. If you were to use this and either Export Waveforms to Spreadsheet File or Write Measurement File, this would included. To stick with the regular Write to Spreadsheet File, you would have to create an array of timestamps yourself based on a start time and the sample rate of the DAQ. Then you would convert this and the data array to strings and use the string array type of Write to Spreadsheet instead of the DBL type.

  • Trying to Export Details Column as Text Files

    In the bin, where all the information is columned regarding (on the right hand side) regarding duration/in/out... and all the other information...
    Is there a way to export only that information as a text file of any sort? I have a feature film's length worth of footage, and I'm trying to create a list of all the available shots we have for the crew, what master tape they were captured from, their in and out points, and all that...
    (As opposed to print screening the whole thing...)
    Any help would be just fantastic and save me an incredible amount of time (or confirm I have to spend an incredible amount of time)
    Thanks.

    Export "batch list" will give you a tab delimited text file that can be imported in to a spread sheet. Hide or add columns in the browser for further control.

  • Problem with Date - Text File Source and Oracle Target

    Hi All,
    I have a source data (text file) with date column in the format of 'MM/DD/YYYY'. My target is oracle. I am using the LKM FILE TO SQL and IKM SQL Control Append. When i execute this interface, i am getting an error as
    7000 : null : com.sunopsis.jdbc.driver.file.b.i

    at the Load Data step.
    How to load date columns from text file to oracle tables? Please help me in resolving this...
    Thanks in Advance,
    Ram Mohan T

    The worst solution is to define for your text file the date as a string and then to rebuild your date type in Oracle.
    something like
    convert(Substr(myfield,4,2)||Substr(myfield,1,2)||Substr(myfield,7,4) ,'MMDDYYYY')
    this is maybe the worst solution but it should work.

  • How do I save a mutlitcolumn data to a text file?

    I am trying to save a multicolumn data to a text file without using Report Generation VIs. Here is the detail scenario...
    I have data in the following format.
    Time Voltage
    1 2
    2 3
    3 6 ...
    and
    Power
    1
    and
    Peaks
    x-axis y-axis
    Peak1 1 4
    Peak2 5 11
    If I have such data, how would I put them in a columnar format with their title and labels in a text file.
    Any example VIs would be nice to see.
    Thanks.

    Here is one solution, hope it helps. I would like to see this done using clusters and less shift arrays, I'm sure there are a few ways to do this with less wires but i guess that's what sub vi's are for...

    Hi,

    i tried using IKM file teradata and columns are getting displaced.
    my requirement suppose i have 5 columns in file and i have to load only 3columns to table using IKM.
    same thing can be achived using LKM file to teradata but i want use IKM.
    please suggest me on this
    Regards
    Vinod

    Hi,
    I believe that the problem you are having is that you have a delimited file, of which you want to pick columns from position 2,3,5. In this case, ODI will pick the first 3 columns of a delimited file regardless of position.
    For example, if you a tab delimited file with c1,c2,c3,c4,c5 columns, and you want only columns c2,c3,c5 - when mapping these in an ODI interface, and executing, you will actually pick up the data from c1,c2,c3 as these are the first three columns in the file (reading from left to right). You can ignore "columns" on the right hand side of a file, but not the left. E.g delimited file with c1,c2,c3,c4,c5. Only pick columns c1,c2 will give you data for the first 2 columns
    Create a temporary table to load all the data from the file, and use you temp table to extract the data you require. Or you could get the file created with the first three columns as the columns you require.
    Cheers
    Bos

    Hi
    Sorry, I missed that one. The file formatting is strange though. It uses spaces to separate columns but also within columns. I attached a modified VI that tries to take care of that, but it fails at the columns "Solar Energy" and "Hi Solar Rad.". This is very difficult to read programmatically as there's one space each between "Solar", "Hi", and "Solar" again. So how do we distinguish between column separator and space within column?
    Is download.txt the original file? Or was it probably modified by an editor that would replace tabs by space characters?

  • How do I read from a text file that is longer than 65536 lines and write the data to an Excel spreadsheet and have the data write to a new column once the 65536 cells are filled in a column?

    I have data that is in basic generic text file format that needs to be converted into Excel spreadsheet format.  The data is much longer than 65536 lines, and in my code I haven't been able to figure out how to carry over the data into the next column.  Currently the conversion is done manually and generates an Excel file that has a total of 30-40 full columns of data.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    No need to use nested For loops. No need for any loop anyway. You just have to use a reshape array function. The picture below shows how to proceed.
    However, there may be an issue if your element number is not a multiple of the number of columns : zero value elements will be added at the end of the last column in the generated 2D array. Now the issue depends on the way you intend store the data in the Excel spreadsheet : you could convert the data as strings, replace the last zero values with empty strings, and write the whole 2D array to a file (with the .xls extension ) using the write to spreadsheet function. Only one (minimal) problem : define the number of decimal digits to be used;
    or you could write the numeric array directly to a true Excel spreadsheet, using either the NI report generation tools or ActiveX commands, then replace the last elements with empty strings.
    We need more input from you to decide how to solve these last questions.

  • Error importing text file into SQL Server when last column is null

    Hello all. Happy holidays!
    I'm trying to import a text file into a SQL Server table, and I get the error below when it gets to a row (row 264) that has null in the last column. I'm guessing the null jumbles up the delimiters somehow. The nulls are not errors, and I need to import
    them into the table with the rest of the rows. Any idea how I can do that?
    Thanks!

    WeeLass

    Hi WeeLass,
    The error that” Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "XYZ" returned status value 2 and status text "The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data.".” is generally error message, and the error indicates
    that there is data type mismatch issue between the input columns and the output columns.
    Based on your description, the issue is that you trying to convert a column contains empty value from string to integer data type for the output column "XYZ" in Flat File Source [1]. Please note that we cannot type an empty value as integer data
    type column value, so the error occurs.
    To fix this issue, just as you did, we should convert the data type for the output column "XYZ" in Flat File Source [1] back to DT_WSTR or DT_STR, then use a derived column task to replace the current column (UBPKE542). But the expression should
    be like below:
    LEN(TRIM(UBPKE542)) > 0 ? (DT_I8)UBPKE542 : NULL(DT_I8)
    In this way, the data type of the column in SQL table would be int, and the empty value would be replaced with NULL.
    If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.

    How to get summary columns in delimited text file
    I am trying to generate a delimited text file output with delimited_hdr = no.The report is a Group above report with summary columns at the bottom.In the text file the headers are not getting repeated & thats ok.The problem is the summary data is getting repeated for each row of data.Is there a way where i will get all the data & summary data will get displayed only once.I have to import the delimited text file in excel spreadsheet.

    Sorry there were a typos :
    When I used desformat=DELIMITEDDATA with desttype=FILE, I get error "unknown printer driver DELIMITEDDATA". When you look for help, DELIMITED is not even listed as one of the values for DESTFORMAT. But if you scroll down and look for DELIMITER it says , this works only in conjuction with DESTFORMAT=DELIMITED !!!!!!??!! This is in 9i.
    Has this thing worked for anybody ? Can anyone please tell if they were able to suppress the sumary columns or the parent columns of a master-detail data for that matter ?

  • Importing multiple amount columns from a single text file

    I'm sure this question has been addressed many times. I have tried to search for an answer here and other areas, but I have not been able to find a clear answer yet. I am relatively new to HFM and FDM and thus do not have a lot of experience to fall back on. I am primarily a Planning/Essbase person. That being said, here is my question:
    I have a data source (text file) containing two amount columns that I need to load to HFM via FDM. One amount column consists of Average Exchange Rates and the other amount column consists of Ending Exchange Rates. I have been asked to develop a process to load both columns of data to HFM using a single process (one Import Format). I've been told this is possible by writing an Import DataPump script. It seems that I would need to create a temporary record set based on the original source file and modify it so that it contained a duplicate set of records where the first set would be used for the Average Rate and the second set would be used for the Ending Rate. This would be a piece of cake using SQL against a relational source, but that's obviously not the case here. I do have some experience with writing FDM scripts but from an IF... Then... Else... standpoint based on metadata values.
    If there is anyone out there that has time to help me with this, it would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,

    This is relatively easy to achieve with a single import script associated with the Account source field (assuming AverageRate and EndRate are accounts in your application) in your import format.
    Essentially your first amount say AverageRate would be set as the default field for Amount and these values would be loaded as if it were a single value file. For the second value, EndRate you would have to insert the second value directly into the FDM work table which is the temporary table populated when data is imported from a file during the import process. The example code snippet below suld gve you guidance on how this is done
    'Get name of temp import work table
    strWorkTableName = RES.PstrWorkTable
    'Create temp table trial balance recordset
    Set rsAppend = DW.DataAccess.farsTable(strWorkTableName)
    If IsNumeric(EndRateFieldValue Ref Goes Here) Then
              If EndRateFieldValue Ref Goes Here <> 0 Then
                   ' Create a new record, and supply it with its field values
                   rsAppend.AddNew
                   rsAppend.Fields("DataView") = "YTD"
                   rsAppend.Fields("PartitionKey") = RES.PlngLocKey
                   rsAppend.Fields("CatKey") = RES.PlngCatKey
                   rsAppend.Fields("PeriodKey") = RES.PdtePerKey
                   rsAppend.Fields("CalcAcctType") = 9
                   rsAppend.Fields("Account") = "EndRate"
                   rsAppend.Fields("Amount") = EndRateFieldValue Ref
                   rsAppend.Fields("Entity")=DW.Utilities.fParseString(strRecord, 16, 1, ",")
                   rsAppend.Fields("UD1") = DW.Utilities.fParseString(strRecord, 16, 2, ",")
                   rsAppend.Fields("UD2") = DW.Utilities.fParseString(strRecord, 16, 3, ",")
                   rsAppend.Fields("UD3") = DW.Utilities.fParseString(strRecord, 16, 16, ",")
                   'Append the record to the collection
                   rsAppend.Update
              End If
    End If
    'Close recordset
    rsAppend.close
    In addition the return value of this Import Script should be "AverageRate" i.e. name of ht eaccount associated with the first value field. The NZP expression also needs to be put on the Amount field in the import format to ensure that the EndRate Field value is always processed even if the value of AverageRate is zero.
