LabView and Excel

I want to store simple characters (measurement data) to a .txt file. These
data are used for spreadsheet (e.g. Excel) test protocols. What I am
looking for is the possibility to launch a test protocol print out from
LabView with the stored data.
How can I launch easlily the print out with the stored data?

This is very easy with ActiveX. Just create an Excel template file with the raw data on Sheet1 and your report on Sheet2. If you need complex analysis of the data, include that on a separate sheet. I have used Excel as a report generator for several projects.
Using ActiveX you need to:
1. Open Excel
2. Open the data file (Workbooks.OpenText)
3. Copy the data (Sheets(1).CurrentRegion.Copy)
4. Open the template file (Workbooks.Open)
5. Paste the data (Application.Paste "Sheet1!A1")
6. Send Sheet2 to the printer (Worksheet.PrintOut)
7. Optionally Save As... to a new xls file
8. Close both Workbooks (Workbook.Close SaveChanges=False)

NI offers an "Report generation toolkit". You get some VI's with this toolkit and so you can directly create your reports from LV.
Another possibility is the communication through ActiveX. There is a nice link with application notes and LV examples for that:

Connecting LabView and Excel live

There is an example that ships with LabVIEW that shows you how to use ActiveX to write to an Excel workbook.
Alternate solutions:
Use the Reporting Toolkit
Use the Write to Spreadhseet File VI which writes a text file, but it can be opened with Excel.

I am using LabVIEW6.1 and I am trying to format data for printout that I have stored in Excel using activeX.
I have three questions that I included the recorded Excel macro for:
1) How do I set the horizontal and vertical page breaks using ActiveX?
Excel macro:
Set ActiveSheet.VPageBreaks(1).Location = Range("F1")
Set ActiveSheet.HPageBreaks(1).Location = Range("A41")
2) How do I set the print area using activeX?
Excel macro:
ActiveSheet.PageSetup.PrintArea = "$A$1:$J$57"
3) How do I left, right center justify the content of cell using ActiveX.
Excel macro:
Range("B3:B8").Select
With Selection
.HorizontalAlignment = xlCenter

You cannot index the VPageBreaks if you are creating a new worksheet. You would use the index to change an existing VPageBreak. To create a new VPageBreak, replace the Item method with the Add method. Wire the range ref directly into the Before input. I fixed your VI and attached it.
To get the value of the xlCenter constant, open the Visual Basic editor that comes with Excel and use the Object Browser (F2). Type xlcenter into the search window and click the binoculars. The value is displayed at the bottom of the window. You will use that trick a lot when looking for the Excel constants for LabVIEW.

The LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit allows you to create different graphs in Microsoft Excel, including Bar Graphs. Check out the Report Generation Toolkit section of the White Paper below for more information. Multiple plots in one graph (LabVIEW to Excel)

Problem description: Generated multiple 2D arrays with different x-axis and y-axis values cannot be placed into ONE excel graph (looking for LabVIEW solution).
We tried several options. 1) Coercing the data to have the same x-axis works in the sense that I get a graph (of the multiple data sets) but the graph is bogus since the x-values are different enough that the graph isn't correct. (This was suggested in the referenced post). The x-values are output power and y-values are efficiency. 2) We can feed the x-values and y-values into a bundle element and wire the output into a waveform graph element which works great but again the output needs to be fed into excel. (also suggested by the reference post). 3) Lastly, we tried using the Excel Update Graph.vi but unfortunately we were only able to plot the last data set because it looks like the graph gets updated on each loop run and ultimately we only get the last data set. 4) As a final effort we tried looking into the sub.vi but that didn't get us any closer to x-values and y-values plotted in excel with LabVIEW generated data.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
You attempted to invoke nodes? Add a invoke node of the waveform graph, so this add data to excel. There are several types of invoke nodes that can be used, such as invoke node "Export data to Excel" or the invoke node "Export data to excel Plot".

If you just want the data, then this may be an option (I'm assuming this works in LV 8.5):
Right click the graph, and select Export -> Export Data to Excel
You need to have Excel on your computer to get this option.
Other options:
o Save your data to a file using Comma (or Tab) Delimited values - open file in Excel
o Use Report Generator functions to create an Excel file

I currently have this excel page i created using labview.
and i am currently using microsoft excel page to scale it manually with the clicks of the mouse.
is there a way where I can automatically scaled it from labview to excel automatically?

I have an XY graph.
the properties of the graph already have x-axis & y-axis, min and max.
how do i use those properties and apply it to my excel graph?
can someone please help me. my on going problem with this case is giving me such hard times.

There are a couple of DDE LabVIEW to Excel examples at here and here but why do you want to use DDE? Imho, ActiveX is faster and more reliable.

The communication of LabView on Excel is unstable.

After the rearrangement of Windows 2000 to Windows XP the communication of LabVIEW on Excel is unstable. I write an Array from LabVIEW to Excel.
Only zeros arrive in Excel mostly, however.
It works from time to time.

If you can please post a code snippet, it would be useful. I have
not had any issues with LabVIEW 7.1.1 and Excel XP(2002) or 2003

Labview and office 10

Using LabView 2011 and Report Generation Toolkit 2011.
After installing Office 10, I would get build error for Excel-Print.Vi and Excel-SetCell.vi and build is then aborted.
2011/vi.lib/addons/_office/_excelsub.llb/Excel-Print.vi.
Says it is unable to save a vi without a block diagram.
Uninstalled Office 10 and reinstalled Office 2003 and build went thru just fine.
I can program using Excel 2003 and the compiled executable will work on another computer with Excel 2011 but once I install Office 10 on my LabVIEW computer I cannot build.
Can't believe I could be the only one to experience this. Any workarounds?

Have you tried uninstalling Report Generation Toolkit and reinstalling after you've reinstalled Excel 2010? Or enabling debugging when building your application for Excel 2010?

I am gettting the data from rs232 interms of 0 or 1. and i have to print it only if thereis a change in data from 0 to 1. if i use if-loop , each as much time there is 0 or 1 is there that much time the data gets printed. i dont know how to do this program please help me if anybody knows the answer

I have attatched the vi. Here in this it receives the data from rs232 as string and converted into binery. and indicated in led also normally if the data 1 comes then the led's will be off. suppose if 0 comes the corresponding data status is wrtten into the text file. But here the problem is the same data will be printed many number of times. so i have to make it like if there is a transition from 1 to o then only print it once. how to do it. I am doing this from few weeks please reply if you know the answer immediatly

Problem with Labview and an ARM Cortex

Good morning,
I am currently trying to use Labview with a board from ST Microelectronics (MCBSTM32) with an ARM Cortex Processor.
I use the SDK and have followed the tutorials.
But, when I try to launch the program (the simple loop as write in the tutorial n°2 : http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/7029 ), Keil gives me an error via Labview:
"Argument 'DARMSTM' not permitted for option 'device'."
It seems that Keil does not allow an ARM Cortex from ST as the device.
Moreover, after having this problem, I am unable to use a Keil project ,even a project which worked before, without Labview. I need to restart the computer.
I also try to launch the Keil project generated by Labview, without using Labview, and it works. But as soon as I use Labview, I have the error.
Did anyone already have this error or know how to solve it

So let me make sure I understand,
The project created in LabVIEW errors out with the message "Argument 'DARMSTM' not permitted for option 'device"
If you open the same project in Keil uVision, it runs fine
Here are my questions:
1. So how does the code run when run through Keil? does it deploy and run fine?
2. Did you follow the porting procedure completely?
Your target STM32F103RB is techincally supported by Keil but you need to port the RTX kernel to it. This paragraph explains it:
To determine if your target already supports the RTX Real-Time Kernel, browse to the \Keil\ARM\Startup directory, then browse to the folder that corresponds to the manufacturer of your ARM microcontroller. If there is an RTX_Conf*.c file for your target, then the RTX Real-Time Kernel has already been ported for your ARM device. If no such file exists, skip to chapter 4 for more information on the RTX Real-Time Kernel and a guide for porting RTX to your ARM microcontroller.
You also need to port the Real-Time agent to it.
I just want to make sure that you have followed the guidelines. If you have and are still having problems, we will continue to explore this.

I am trying to use Labview and RP1210 compliant hardware to connect to a truck J1939 bus and receive messages.

I am trying to use Labview and RP1210 compliant hardware to connect to a truck J1939 bus and receive messages.
Specifically I am attempting to read data frames using the RP1210_READMESSAGE . am able to configure the hardware and send a message to the J1939 bus. . I think I have not configured something correctly. I can use the RP1210_SENDMESSAGE and see the message I have sent on the bus using CANalyzer When I use the RP1210_READMESSAGE I get the timestamp from a message and the return from the function sends back the correct number of bytes (the number matches the number of bytes I sent out plus four bytes from the timestamp). What I am having trouble with is actually receiving the data. I have had the same type of behavior from two different hardware (Vector CANcase XL and Nexiq USB Link), so I don't think the issue is vendor specific.
Has anyone been able to make the RP1210_RECIEVEMESSAGE function work correctly?

I have already tried that. The links are the NI RP1210 wraper. The problem I am having is using labview to interface with the RP1210 layer. The RecieveMessage char*fpchAPIMessage this is the output which is a pointer to a cahracter array. In this variable I can receive the timestamp of the message but not the message. The retun showns the correct amount of bytes are aviaable (18 for a 8 byte message) but I can only get the 4 byte timestamp I think I have to dereference this pointer to view the data. I am not sure how to fix this.
