How to send a value ?

There are a couple of DDE LabVIEW to Excel examples at here and here but why do you want to use DDE? Imho, ActiveX is faster and more reliable.

    Hello National Instruments,
I would like to use DDE to send data from a Lookout Server to an Excel
    Spreadsheet.
I have Lookout 6.1 on a server connected to 4 client workstations
    The operating system on the server is Windows Server 2003 R2; Standard Edition;
    Service Pack 2
I have opened DDE Share but after filing in Share Name; Static Application
    Name; Static Topic Name
I get a message, "Can't bind to DSDM service"
I also get this message when I press add a Share
What are the steps to setting up this type of communications link?
    Thanks,

    Ryan,
I have followed the steps on the Knowledge Base "How do I use DDE To Send Data Across the Network To Excel From Lookout?" but what I am seeing is that the computer with excel (Computer B)hangs up displaying an hour glass continuously leaving me no option but to go into task manager to stop excel.  It appears to me that the dde share is not working properly on my windows xp where lookout resides or I do not have a certain service turned on.  I do have the DDE services turned on both computers.  I have my computer set up as computer A with Lookout and Process1 as the process with a pot set up as pot1.  On my computer (Computer A) I also have the dde share set up per the KB example.
On computer B I have the dde services turned on and I am typing the following into an excel worksheet Cell  ='\\TAG23232\NDDE$'|'Process1$'!Pot1
TAG 23232 is Computer A's Name
    Do you have any suggestions???

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (If you've got XP, although the procedure is for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

  • How to get a DDE advise link working on a DDE server with more than one topic on the same service, and with an equal item name?

When I create a DDE server with serveral topics, all on the same service and with the same item name (different topic), it appears that an advise link does not function properly. It doesn't work at all, it update only when the advise link is terminated or only one of the topics can use an advise link.
    eg.
On one DDE server I have 2 topics:
    topic1:
    servicename: DDEserver
    topicname : C(1)
    itemnames : P(1), P(2), P(3)
    topic2:
    servicename: DDEserver
    topicname : C(2)
    itemnames : P(1), P(2), P(3)
    Only the topicnames differ!
Now I can't get an advise link working on one of the items (sometimes on one, but not
    on another).
Normal (non-advise) links are working fine however.
(In my case there is no other solution since this DDEserver should be compatible with an older one, created earlier.)

I really don't know DDE very well. It is usually recommended that you switch to using ActiveX. You may not be correctly configuring the netDDE server. There is an example in the reource library that shows how to do this. You may also want to look at the DDE advise examples that came with LabVIEW 5.1 and earlier.

I have Acrobat XI Pro and have been experiencing all sorts of "freeze ups" with it ever since Adobe released the new Acrobat DC the other week.  I see that an automatic update was pushed down to my Acrobat XI Pro at the same time.  Is this the first issue you have encountered with your Acrobat XI, or have you been having other issues suddenly as well??  Just wondering ...

  • Print the Server, App and Db in Excel

Is there anyway to get essbase to place the server, application, and database name on an excel sheet? I would imagine something like a function in the vba commands would be perfect. I happen to have a great deal of data spread accross a variety of servers, applications, and databases (for a variety of reasons) and it would often be helpful to know exactly the source of a given report.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It is definitely possible using the Essbase API, but unfortunately I don't think there is a way to extract this information using only the Essbase Excel VBA Toolkit. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong)For the API you will want to first use the VBA Toolkit function EssVGetHctxFromSheet to get the Essbase context handle. Next you will want to use EsbGetActive to return the Application and Database names. Finally you will want to use EsbGetApplicationInfo to return the Server name. Let me know if you have any further questions or have any problems using these functions,- Jay---------------------------Jay NishSenior Business Intelligence ConsultantClarity SystemsEmail: [email protected]: www.claritysystems.com---Message Posted by trainoj   3/19/02 14:22---Is there anyway to get essbase to place the server, application, and database name on an excel sheet? • DDE Server in Labview

I have been trying to operate Labview as a DDE server so that another application can conneect to it.
    (1) I don't understand how you access data that is provided to Labview by the client
    (2) Is the data that is set in the set block the data that is accessed by using the topic string?
I have been through the examples and documentation and i didnt find an answer for question 1. With question 2 i am just looking for confirmation on how the client accesses the data because i havent actually got it to work yet. DDE is the only method that i am aware of with the program that i am using as the client.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
Here is some example code that shows how to use DDE to read and write to an Excel spreadsheet.  Perhaps it will give you a good starting point.  Also, as Mike said, if you can use OPC you may want to consider it.
    Good luck!

  • DDE server window error - Office 2010

    dear microsoft team,
i recently installed microsoft office 2010 on my company laptop which is running on Windows XP sp3 platform.
since then, the sofeware is not runing properly, the office 2010 programs stop responding everytime after i open them, it happened in Word, Excel, and Access, i am sure if i use other program in Office 2010 they would be the same. i suffer some data lost
as i had to manually force to close the Not responding window.
another funny thing since i installed the lastest version of Microsoft office 2010 is that, everytime i try to shut down the laptop, the DDE server Window error message keeps showing up, sometimes it comes out
few times, so i had to wait longtime until i can shut the computer.
after tried few times, i notice that if i don't use any of the Office 2010 program when turn on the computer,
i can shut down without hassel, but as long as after i used word, excel or access then DDE server window error shows up when i try to shut down the machine. so i think it has to do with the new Office 2010.
i'd appreciate if you can help here. thanks in advace.
    regards
    xiaoming

    Hi,
    1. Regarding this issue, you can check this KB:
The program stops responding when you try to open or to save a file in an Office 2002 program, in an Office 2003 program, in an Office 2007 program, or in an Office 2010 program
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313937
    2. If you received any error code or the error message, please let me know. So we can handle this issue better.
    3. If the issue still persists, let's use safe mode to check issue, you can refer to the following template:
To start the Office program in safe mode
    1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to Microsoft Office.
    2. Press and hold the CTRL key, and then click the Office program you want to start.
If the problem does not occur in the safe mode, this issue might be related to some third-party add-ins in the Office program, we can try to disable them. Normally, you could do the following to disable the conflict add-ins in your Office program:
    Disable add-ins
    1. Click File menu, click Options > Add-in, click Go button in the Manage: Com-in Add.
    2. Check if there are any add-ins, clear the checkbox to disable them.
    3. Close the Office program and restart it.
    4. Add one check back each time to the list of Add-In, restart the Office program, and repeat the above procedure. Once the issue reappears again, we can determine which add-in causes this problem and then disable it.
If the problem persists after this, let's try to repair the Office program from:
Start -> Control Panel > Programs and Features, right click the Office program and choose Change, then Repair.
    Best Regards,
    Nick Wan

  • VB6 and Excel loading then unloading immediately

First off I posted this here
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/4c07879b-e033-4e8f-8266-95f9f606923a/vb6-and-excel-loading-then-unloading-immediately?forum=exceldev However I think this is the right forum for this.
We have an old VB6 application that uses data from and to Excel 97-2003 XLS and
Access MDB. This application is slated to be updated to VS2012 and VB.NET. In
the mean time I have a glitch that I cannot seem to find the issue. When we
load the VB6 app it opens Excel 2010 in the background for getting and setting
data. We are set to roll out Office 2010 on everyone’s system and I am still
unable to find why it works fine on two systems and not on others. With Office
2007 everything seems to work just fine.
What happens is when I look at the processes in Task Manager on my Windows 7
Enterprise edition with Office Professional Plus 2010 system while loading
    the VB6 app I see?
    EXCEL.EXE *32 | "My user name" | 00 CPU | 10,132k | Microsoft Excel
This is normal and stays in process the entire time I run it on my system. I also have
this working on another end users system. However the issue and the fix I used
on our two systems does not seem to work on other systems. I launch the VB6 app
    and it comes up.
    EXCEL.EXE *32 | "My user name" | 00 CPU | 10,132k | Microsoft Excel
This loads in the processes and then immediately unloads without any errors. Then when I
execute something that needs to use Excel I get.
    Run-Time error ‘91’:
Object variable or With block variable not set.
This only happens if Excel unloads immediately otherwise the program works great. There
are no events in any of the event logs and our other IT guy said it is loading
and unloading normally with out crashing.
I have applied this to the systems http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926430/en-us . In
all of my searching this looked like the best answer. However only two systems
are working with Office Professional Plus 2010.
Here are the references and components.
    References:
    Visual Basic For Applications
Visual Basic runtime objects and procedures
    Visual Basic objects and procedures
    OLE Automation
    Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library
    Microsoft Excel 5.0 Object Library
    Components:
    Controls
    Desaware Animated Button Control
Microsoft Common Dialog Control 6.0 (SP6)
Microsoft Data Bound Grid Control 5.0 (SP6)
    Designers
    Dat Environment
    Data Report
    DHTML Page
    WebClass
    Code:
    Public xlApp As Excel.Application
    Public WBSetup As Excel.Workbook
    Public objWbCALC As Excel.Workbook
    Public objShtLEVELS As Excel.Worksheet
    Sub Main()
' There is more code here that is not specific to Excel issue
    Set xlApp = Excel.Application
    ' Get the workbook.
    Set objWbCALC = xlApp.Workbooks.Open("c:\temp\Calc.xls")
    Set WBSetup = xlApp.Workbooks.Open("c:\temp\Setup.xls")
    ' Get worksheet
    Set objShtLEVELS = objWbCALC.Worksheets("Levels")
' There is more code here that is not specific to Excel issue
    End Sub
This is working on one system that had Office 2007 and was upgraded to Office 2010. Working on my system with Office 2010. The EXE file is ran from the server you can install it or add the OCX files to local system and register them with regsvr32. No
new components have been added or changed to the actual VB6 application. It seems to work on two systems and not on other systems.
However our test system have Office 2010 loaded on it and never had office 2007 on it. Maybe there is a residual left over file on it.
    Any ideas?

    Hello,
    Thank you for your post.
I am afraid that the issue is out of support range of VS General Question forum which mainly discusses
WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System
    and Visual Studio Editor.
I would like to know whether you can get the same issue when you create/load a Visual Basic application rather than VB6 in VS2012. If the issue only occurs when you load VB6 app, as Andrew said, there are other better forums for
VB6 app provided in this thread:

  • SAML authentication Secure store service target ID Project server integration with excel service

I installed and configured share Point 2013 Project server 2013, and Created web application Trusted Identity Provider (SAML 2.0) ,it is working as we expected means
..end user are able to access application(User Login through email and alies(account NAME) )
My problem here CA is working NTLM authentication ,Web application is working SAML
while creating service application(LIKE SSSA Excel Performance ... ( it automatically take NTLM) I CREATED TARGET ID in secure store service application ,I chooser "GROUPS" under SSSA,and
we added members "group to account and email id.
I configure Excel service application and i SSSA Target ID in this excel service application  also added trusted location for PWA site
while opening excel sheet under Project server (An error occurred while accessing application id ProjectServerApplication from Secure
Store Service. The following connections failed to refresh)
I tried target ID choose option " Group Ticket"
Is it CA required for SAML authentication? .. (extend web application
How Service application like SSSA will work for SAML  authentication?

    Hi SridharMandipudi,
as i know, usually when the error appear, you need to check the member.
The domain group that was specified the Secure Store Service ID ProjectServerApplication did not have any members in the group.
and please also have a try in a testing secure store service application:
Created new secure store service application with new target application ID. and added this ID in excel service application -----global settings----Application ID.
went to Central admin---manage web application---selected web application ---click on Service Connection---associated newly created secure store service application.
edited data connection string of excel file.
went to site and tried refresh that excel file and able to refresh the file.

  • Unable to save MS Word and Excel 2010 and 2013 onto the network share

    Hi,
I have read similar cases, but did not work out on the problems we face.
We are using Office 2010 and Windows 7 and it seems like only this combination will encounter saving problem on the networe share (but local / removable disks are fine) -
    Other combinations:
Windows XP and Office 2010 - no problem
Windows XP and Office 2003 - no problem
Windows 7 and Office 2003 - no problem
In Microsoft Word 2010, when saving a new document, it will save but create a 0KB file in the network share drive and I notice the blue menu bar of the Microsoft Word 2010 still displays "Document1" instead the new file name.
And only when I click save icon or exit button, Word actually prompts another "Save As" dialog to save the file, and as a result, I have to save the same file and answer MS Word prompt to replace the existing file - and this is the real time that
the document and its contents really got saved. And the blue menu bar then displays the actual file name.
In Microsoft Excel 2010 (also Powerpoint I suppose so), in saving a new excel file, after typing in a file name for the new file in the network share location, it will prompt a dialog box indicating the "File is currently in use"
Similar to MS Word, it will still create a 0KB file in the network share, and only a second time saving and replace the 0KB file, is able to save the file again.
I have tried a lot of ways from Safe Mode, Disable Add-in, Added Trusted Locations to the network share in MS Word and Excel, Uninstall Antivirus software, redo NTFS permission on the network share server folder, etc but the problem cannot
    be solved.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Daryl

    Thank you Max.
I have tried various storage configurations and share the folders out in Windows Servers and grant user accesses with AD.
These drives configuration involves iSCSI drives, using NAS drive, using internal SAS RAID drives in Windows 2008 servers, all having the same errors, but the latter one was having the most errors almost every first time the users
save their files (includes saving from email attachments), the files will get 0KB.
I have tested LAN cables, switch LAN points in panels and switches, and comes to no avail.
I have patched with the latest office updates (the latest being Office 2010 SP2) also to no avail.
