LabView for fed-batch control

Does anybody use LabView for the control of bioprocesses, e.g., for
fed-batch fermentations? I am interested in control algorithms for
substrate addition, etc. .
Karsten.

With visa properties/modem line settings you can easily select the line setting you need and watch for the other line to change state. use property write and read.
succes
I don't know how immediate the line will change state but you can measure this yourself with an oscilloscope.

  • Can't control color sensor in LabView for Mindstorms

    Hello!  New here.
I'm trying to bone up on LabView via "LabView for Lego Mindstorms" for a possible job in the near future and I've run into a problem early on.
I'm programming my Lego brick in LabView to simply turn on the color sensor which is easy enough:  I build a while loop and inside that I have a color sensor block connected to a text block which displays light intensity from the sensor in text on the brick.  I compile and run and the sensor turns on and I can read the constantly updating intensity on the brick.  That part works fine.  Now I'd like to control the light sensor (which doubles as a light source with color LEDs) on the LV front panel.  The book I'm using (LabView for Lego Minstorms) says I need to right click the sensor block on the "generate light" input and choose "Create-->Control" from the resulting menu.  A Boolean pushbutton should appear connected to the sensor block in the Block Panel and a push button should appear in the Front Panel.  That's not what happens.  Two things are different here.
    1) I have no "generate light" port to right click on.  This is probably due to using a more up to date version of Mindstorms than the book uses.  That's a book/Mindstorms issue that probably can't be solved here but hopefully solving the next issue will make this one irrelevant.
    2) I right click and create the control, but instead of creating a Boolean push button as the book predicts, it creates a "BrickReference.lvclass" icon.  It connects okay with the light sensor and a corresponding block is created in the Front Panel but it is a paper weight as far as I can tell.  I can't do anything with it.  There is no button to push, no slider, knob, radio button etc. and I can't seem to change it into anything that works in any way.  I delete it and create a no kidding Boolean push button from the library but it won't connect to the light sensor and so I can't compile.  So now I'm a bit stuck.
I've looked for "Brick Reference" on line in the context of LabView class and have found little or nothing that tells me about its definition or how I can use it to control the light sensor via the Front Panel.  The help section with the software isn't much help either and yet I'm sure there must be a way to control a simple Lego light sensor from the Front Panel for debugging and other purposes.
If you know what I'm doing wrong or if you know an end run around this issue that will enable me to control a Mindstorms brick from the Front Panel in this way, please let me know.
    Thanks!

  • Traceability requirement for production but Plant1 is not batch controlled

We have run MM, SD, FI for just over 12 months with only 1 Plant which does not have or need batch control.
We are starting to scope out what we have to do to introduce PP in our food packing facility. This will require batch traceability at material level.
I have been told that it is possible to create a 2nd Plant and configure it for batch control. BUT we will have to make arm's length transaction between the Plants. i.e. MM purchasing transactions in Plant1 then Plant1 issues materials, without batches, to Plant2 which receipts, with batches, and then uses batches in production.
Does anyone have experience of this 2 Plant setup where Plant 1 is NOT batch controlled, but Plant 2 IS batch controlled?
    Is it a viable solution?
    Kind regards
    Jeremy

    Hi Jeremy
You can activate batch management on the materials that will be relevant to batch. This can achieved in phased manner.
Batch Management can be controlled at material level. As you are going to start PP as new process, You need do the following
    -  Shortlist the materials that will be batch relevant in future
    - Check stock levels, open purchase orders, PRs etc
    - For materials for which stock is already zero, activate batch management on them
    - For other when try to activate the batch, check error log and take action according to clear the stock so that batch management can be activated.
I do not agree to have other plant as handing master data before implementation is one time effort, but if you have two plants.. this will remains for life. Think about the efforts and see what you want to do.
    Here is little tip
In MM02 you receive a message that you shall look into the log if the batch management indicator cannot be saved.
In that moment, hit enter and a new button will appear, there you can exactly read which document is hindering you.
Usually it is stock in previous period that is forgotten to make zero.
Check in MM03 at accounting view what your previous period stock is.
As you have already cleared current period stock,
you have to add again as much stock in the current period as you have to remove from previous period.
then issue the stock with a previous period date. (you may have to allow previous period posting in MMRV first, and FI period has to allow it as well -> OB52)

  • Price control for ML & Batch valution

    Hi,
We are implementing ECC 6.0 with IS Mill in an integrated steel plant. They manufacture Hot rolled, Cold rolled and Galvanized flat steel products starting with hot briquette iron. All production is in-house. The product structure is multi level. We have proposed to use multi level variant configuration (from the slab stage onwards) since there are a huge number of variants of the products that a customer may order. Thus a single configurable material number can represent thousands of variants. It is primarily a make-to-order scenario with mass production.. However there is considerable movement of materials across sales order segments and plant stock due to business constraints. A basic requirement of the client is the need to analyze cost on the basis of the characteristics of a variant (e.g. grade-wise, thickness-wise etc.) . They also need to know the actual cost of production for each batch. This value of the batch needs to be carried even if the batch is moved across sales order segments and plant stock.
We are proposing to use Batch valuation (which is recommended as a best practice by SAP in such scenarios) to address these requirements. However the client also needs the rollup of the variances for the previous stages of production to the next stage up to the finished product. The same is only possible with the activation of Material Ledger & Actual Costing.
However we understand that batch valuation requires the material to be valuated at moving average price “V” whereas for single/multi level price determination Standard price “S” is a must.
We request your advice whether there is any way to avoid this apparent contradiction between price control requirements of batch valuation and material ledger.
    Regards
    Ramesh

    Hi Ramesh,
I agree with Umut's statement: You can use price control S for the single valaued batches.
Your scenario is very interesting to me. I am working in the Mill Products IBU at SAP and we have currently a project running in order to create more flexibility for logistics in using materials that were configured for another sales orders. In such a scenario material valuation and cost order varainace analyis suffers.
A way out of it is the use of  a modified make-to-stock with batch valuation and actual costing. So it appears very similar to your scenario. We will include our scenario in a best practice for flat steel (China) which is currently under development. Would be interesting to   compare with your experiences.
Since you write they want to analyze based on characteristics, also my blog in the BPX area on metals and mining industries might be of interest for you:
    <a href="/people/udo.werner/blog/2007/04/11/including-product-configuration-into-analytics:///people/udo.werner/blog/2007/04/11/including-product-configuration-into-analytics
I would also invite you to write an own blog on your scenario of costing in a steel scenario and open up the discussion. I also intended to contribute with a similar topic.
    best regards,

  • Building SCADA software for substation automation control using LabVIEW

Hi, I would be interested to know if anyone has built or developed a SCADA software for substation automation control using purely LabVIEW and its add-on tools (beside NI LookOut). The SCADA software, somehow similar to WinCC, should fulfill basic SCADA function for substation such as monitoring and interlocking control of CB and DS (single/double point), generate event or alarm list which includes information such as topical/not topical, valid/invalid...., archiving, redundancy, etc.

    Hi Remzi,
    Thank you for your information.
I understand that the DSC Module is a tool capable of developing monitoring and control system. Using the module would enable me to build a SCADA software (similar to LookOut) according to my requirement. But I think it's quite a difficult task to design and build a SCADA software from the scatch. Unlike a SCADA software, the DSC module is not really a SCADA software where user can directly parameter the I/O points and graphics via GUI. I've actually tried the LookOut software, but found that it's not really suitable for substation automation & control field. Hence, I would be grateful to know if anyone in this field has developed similar SCADA software for substation automation.

  • Labview callable routines for Z-wave control of household appliances

Has anyone developed a software interface (Labview callable library) for the remote control of household appliances?  Specifically, Z-wave is a wireless protocol supported by multiple manufactures that has both USB and Wifi hardware interfaces.  Intermatic, for example, has a SDK inteface in C#, C++, etc. Has anyone yet taken the time to bundle the SDK routines or to talk directly to a Z-wave interface (USB/Wifi) within a Labview callable library?

So I have working code to control Z-Wave devices,  now I need help getting events from the event handler.  Can anyone who knows VB.NET help translate this code to LabView?  I have attached the dll and the sample code provided by ControlThink.  I'm not really sure how to set this up in LabView, but it seems like it would be very simple for someone who knows both VB.NET and LabView.  I get confused with all the properties and methods associated with the event handler.  I'm  interested in getting events when the level of a device has changed.

  • Batch record for production order control

    Hi Experts
    I have a problem,
For an production order the system has created the Inspection lot.
Now  I want take the usage decision   but the system inform me that before in it is necessary u201CCreate and approve batch record firstu201D.
How  can I solved this problem? The order isnu2019t the process order.
    Best regards
    Ezio Calvi

    Dear
You are getting this error becasue you can only carry out the following functions for the batch you have selected when an approved batch record exists (see material master record, Work scheduling view ):
Making a usage decision for an inspection lot of origin Goods receipt from production
Changing the batch status from Restricted to Unrestricted
However, no batch record has been created for the batch you have selected. Therefore, the system does not carry out the function.
So you need to create and approve the batch record.
Refer SAP Library, section Basis Services / Communication Interfaces -> SAP ArchiveLink -> SAP ArchiveLink - Scenarios in Applications -> Storage Scenarios PP -> Optical Archiving of Batch Records
Or Else , check this thread which may help you to trace the problem

  • How can i use labview.tlb to control Labview from an external application?

    Hi,
I've been told by a labview engineer that i could use the file
labview.tlb located in the labview install folder to control labview
from an external application (in my case, a C# app). I'm using Labview
6.1 under Windows 2000. This article confirms that:
    "ActiveX and LabVIEW"
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/5401BE584FBAEECE862567C2006D36C7?opendocument
But i've not been able to find out how to use this file to achieve
what i want. I just want to be able to open/close labview, open/close
    a vi, start/stop a vi, hide/show a vi from a C# application. The above
web page talks about activex but i really don't see the realtion
between activex and that labview.tlb file.
    Is there so
mebody around who knows how to use that file? Why does NI
tell us that it's possible to do what i want to do but doesn't explain
how (or hides this info very well)?
    Thanks

Thanks for the link, i actually already found this link before. I've
found yesterday how to use Labview.tlb, just add it to the references
of the project, it was probably too easy for me at that time:-) But
now, i'm still stuck as there is no doc about using the interfaces and
classes of this activex to control labview.
The example given on your link is made is C++ and for some reasons,
the wrapper generated for Labview.tlb when i added it to my c# project
doesn't seem to expose the same
interfaces and classes as the one used
in the C++ example. I therefore can't use the C++ example in C#.
I've tried to do something like:
    LabVIEW.ApplicationClass a = new LabVIEW.ApplicationClass();
Just this line causes labview to launch but then immediately throws an
exception: "Query interface for interface LabVIEW._IApplication
    failed".
Does somebody knows how to use that control in C#/VB.NET ?

  • Creating custom interface panels in LabVIEW for use in VBAI.

    Greetings everyone,
I hope that someone can give me some insight with the following problem. I have on my bench a 1742 Smart Camera and a computer loaded with VBAI 3.6 and LabVIEW 8.6 Pro (all the latest and greatest stuff). Up to this point, everything was going along smoothly until I attempted to use my own custom inspection interface panel in VBAI.
I first created a simple test panel in LabVIEW with a few controls/indicators and saved it in version 8.5 (as required by VBAI 3.6). But when I tried to select this panel in the Configure Inspection Interface dialog in VBAI, I get the message "There is no VI at the path you specified" (even though the VI is clearly there). Perplexed, I visited this website and found others that have run into a similar problems, but apparently no solutions were found.
Looking into this further, I did the following:
    1) I downloaded the image_with_switch_control.vi from here. NOTE: File size is 51,732 bytes.
    2) I opened VBAI, verified that I could select this VI in VBAI's Configure Inspection Interface panel with no problems, then closed VBAI.
    3) I opened this "known good" VI in LabView 8.6, verified that it was saved in LabView 8.5, and then saved it to LabVIEW 8.5 using "Save for Previous Version...". NOTE: File size is 50,500 bytes.
    4) I tried to load this new/same Ver 8.5 VI in VBAI's Configure Inspection Interface panel again and got the message "There is no VI at the path you specified".
Now if I open a known good Ver 8.5 VI in LabVIEW 8.6, make no changes, and save the very same VI back in Ver 8.5, I should have no issues choosing it as an interface panel in VBAI. But this is not the case. Am I missing something or is there is a wrench in the works somewhere?
I was really expecting to have the ability to create my own custom interface between the computer and camera (as cited in the documentation), so if anyone can point out a solution, I'd greatly appreciate it.

In the Breakpoint forum is an ongoing thread "Monthly Bugs" that lists bugs posted in the forum. It is maintained by the forum users for the forum users.
I have already submitted yours. Its no garantee that it is a bug or that it is spotted by NI. You could always contact your local NI application engineers and have them report it as a bug, if they think it is you will receive a CAR ID.
If so please post it as a reply on your forum post, so people that see this can look at the solved issues in the next LV release to see this particular bug has been solved.

  • Process Order creates Multiple Inspection for Same Batch

    Hi Guys,
Expert opinion is needed to have this issue fixed.
Issue:When a new Process Order is created it automatically creates in storage location A.  There are times when a process order needs to be created into another storage location B.  When the Process Order is created and then is changed from A to B  it will  create two inspection lots for one batch, one for each storage location.  From the plant perspective they only need one Inspection lot as they will not create two set of samples for testing since it is the same batch it just went into a different storage location then it was originally created for.  Is there a way to change SAP  so that it only creates one Inspection lot per batch.
Control InspLot field in QM view for Insp Type 04 is X
We had different scenarios with same Batch
SCENARIO #1:  Sloc is changed to B prior to Release, in CRTD status of order Sloc was A
So there are 2 Insp. Lot created one for A & another for B after GR in Sloc B
SCENARIO #2:  Sloc is changed to B after  Release
IL is created after Release of order with Sloc A, after changing Sloc B in process order and performing GR, new IL is created for Sloc B
Business scenario is certain times of the year where one creates a PO with one Sloc and then it needs to be GR into a different Sloc.
They are generating a lot of IL’s that are not used and it seems like every year they need to get UD’s made on IL’s for finance to close out the year which is cumbersome.
Please suggest way out, objective is one process should have one IL per Batch irrespective of Sloc
    Regards
    Nitin Desai

There are several things that come to mind.
First and foremost, get the planning right so that the process orders are created properly the first time around.  This is a business issue.  Yes.. I don't know your business.. no, you really aren't all that different then the thousands of other businesses using SAP.  The root cause of this is you don't know what is going where when you order it or in the case of process orders, where you intend to make it or store it.  That's a basic planning problem.
2 - you must have early lot creation turned on, "Y".  You can't be using "X".  X would only create an 04 lot when you do the GR so if you change the storage location prior to the Process order being released I'm not sure how you are generating two lots.  Are you sure all the lots in question are 04 lots? Are you maybe seeing an 03 lot?  Or possibly an 08 lot?  Something doesn't sound right here.
3 - If you receive into two storage locations from one process order, you will get two inspection lots.  No way around this.  There is stock associated with these.  You could use customization to suppress the second receipt but that stock would go right to UR with no inspection.
    4. Don't change the storage locations  in the process orders at all.  You can use the stock posting screen in the UD and change the storage location when you make the UD.
    5.  Another option is to again, don't change the storage location in the PO but use QAC2 transaction to transfer the inspection lot into the proper storage location.
You need to explain your scenarios better cause I really don't see how you are getting the two lots when you make all your changes in the process order prior to releasing the process order.  That doesn't make any sense at all.

  • How we will maintain screen resolution for tmaintaining able control in BDC

how we will maintain screen resolution for tmaintaining able control in BDC. can you give the code or how we have to set it

    Hi,
You need to use the CTU_PARAM options with the call transaction method. This is used if you would like to do a commit work once call trnasaction is done. This has also got very important property, for example if your Screen resolution is different from others then the screen (Application) will be different that is you'll be having say 5 lines in your screen where as your friend will be having 8 or 10 so your program might fail in this case. If you set variable DEFSIZE as 'X' it will always use the default screen size and hence avoids error.
Use CALL TRANSACTION 'XXX' OPTIONS FROM w_ctu_params.( type CTU_PARAMS)
    This structure contains the follwing.
DISMODE : Display mode (like the MODE addition)
UPDMODE: Update mode (like the UPDATE addition)
CATTMODE: CATT mode (controls a CATT)
CATT mode can have the following values:
    ' ' No CATT active
    'N' CATT without single-screen control
    'A' CATT with single-screen control
DEFSIZE : Use default window size (Here we are handling those transaction by giving default window size)
RACOMMIT: Do not end transaction at COMMIT WORK
NOBINPT : No batch input mode (that is, SY-BINPT = SPACE)
NOBIEND : No batch input mode after the end of BDC data.
The components DEFSIZE , RACOMMIT, NOBINPT, and NOBIEND always take the following values:
    'X' Yes
This might help u in better understanding...
