LabVIEW performance with Dell Integrated DVMT

Anyone have any experience with this? My company doesn't want to spring for an 'extra' video card. Rather, they are prescribing Dell's Optiplex GX260 with'Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics', which has no dedicated Video RAM, but uses up to 64MB of system RAM instead. This seems like a bad idea to me from a LabVIEW performance standpoint. Recommendations? TIA.

That was not a wise move, to exchange the Quadro K5000 for an outdated and slow Quadro 5000.  Even a $ 180 GTX 660 is clearly faster.
What can cause the behaviour you see?
Unusual codec in your source material. It has weird dimensions and is extremely compressed.
You don't use MPE accelerated effects.
The export settings don't use hardware MPE.
You use only 16 GB memory and a single CPU at standard clock speed.
Try the PPBM5 Benchmark to see how your system performs. With that info you can get better insight into whether something is ill configured or not.

  • Bad Desktop Performance with Dell P2715Q

    Hi everybody,
I'm using a 15" Mid 2010 Macbook Pro with the following specs:
    - 2.4GHz i5
    - 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    - Samsung Evo 850 (250GB) as Startup Disk
    - GeForce GT330M 256 MB
    - External Dell P2715Q with MiniDP to DP cable at 2560x1440
    - Yosemite 10.10.2
    - External Keyboard and Mouse, both wired
Unfortunately (apart from my Graphics Card being unable to output 4K but I accept that, this machine is almost 5 years old) the performance when using normal desktop operations is really bad on the Dell monitor. Some things like scrolling in Finder and Safari work fluently, but most not. Here's a list:
    - Minimizing and maximizing, moving and opening windows is lagging
    - Horrible video performance when watching Youtube HD videos, especially in fullscreen. Sometimes nothing happens for more than 5 seconds, screen simply freezes
    - Lags when using some third-party apps even when only scrolling through text (for example Matlab)
When the issues above appear, the process WindowServer has a very high CPU usage, my computer starts to heat up and burn enormous amounts of energy, gets unusable. I googled the issue with the WindowServer and followed the advice, reducing the transparency helped a little but especially the issue with Youtube videos is unchanged. Even when doing nothing, the CPU usage of the WindowServer never drops below 0.5%. In general, the experience when working on the external monitor is kind of slow and really unsatisfying, different then what I'm used to from the Macbook. From the 8 GB of RAM I have, 5.7GB are used when simply typing this text in Safari apart from having Outlook and a terminal open (plus some background apps like Dropbox).
Things are a little better when working in closed-clamshell mode (mostly the issues with handling windows, HD video in fullscreen still *****).
The only things I haven't tried is resetting the SMC & PRAM since users reported that doing so doesn't help at all.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Edit: My Yosemite Installation is a fresh and clean installation, nothing was transferred/proted from an older Mac OS installation, apart from some documents of course

Well it obviously supports the resolution (also according to the datasheet) and playing HD video at lower resolutions works fine.. I just saw this:
2014 Macbook Pro 15" doesn't work well with 4k @ 60hz, obvious lag due to high WindowServer CPU utilization
which makes me think that it's not really a performance thing but more a bug in Yosemite.

  • Is Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX USB sound card compatible with Dell deskt

Im considering buying the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX USB sound card to use with a Dell desktop XPS 40, but recently read a forum message on another page that there was a issue with installing on a Dell Tower but no problems with installing on a laptop
any help is appreciated if there are any compatibility issues with using this sound card on a Dell desktop, Thanks
the main reason I would like to upgrade to this card is so my pc doesnt use the integrated audio which Id like better quality performance with a sound card and also dont want to install a internal card on the system

    joaolfb,
Audigy 2 NX will need to be connected with the power adaptor inorder to run. USB will not be enough to sustain the power consumption of the sound card.

  • Dell Integrated Webcam

I have a Dell 1720 with an integrated webcam. It has been working great until today. My computer can't detect the camera and I have already tried reinstalling the drivers. The blue indicator light is also not coming on like it used to. Anyone have a suggestion?

The problem the entire time for me wasn't the microdia-git module it was the fact that my user wasn't added to the video group. I also figured out that my webcam worked perfectly with the uvcvideo module and oddly enough not the microdia-git module. I apologize for the "n00bness" and appreciate the help.

  • Performances with Crystal Reports (based on BW queries)

    Hi,
I've created some Crystal reports based on BW queries, and I'm really interested in performances purposes. The BW queries I created are quick (with neither free characteristics nor hierarchies), and when I use them in a Crystal report, I identify a loss of time in the data extraction (BW --> Crystal), in the Crystal management of the layout and then in the publication to BOE.
To be able to use Crystal on BW queries is very useful, but if the response times are too much important, that's not good...
Is there any customizing to perform to get better performance ? Are there some analysis already performed with Performance point of view ?
If you have any best practice or piece of advice to shorten the response time in Crystal reports, I'm really interested in.
    Thanks for your replies,
    Best regards
    Jonathan

    Hi,
there are many SDN threads or forums dealing with the integration BW and Crystal.
You should have a look to the forums created by Ingo Hilgefort (SAP expert on the BW-BO integration).
You can start with that one :

  • Can analytics can be performed with out BI and analytics implemented on CRM

    Hi all,
I want to configure CRM system with marketing, Sales, service scenarios only and i want to perform some Lead analysis, Campaing analysis etc. is it possible with out integration of BI, any installations of CRM analytics modules?
    Rgds,
    Rao

    Hi Rao
With just ABAP reports you can do reporting like in any OLTP system be it R/3 or CRM. The OLAP systems were initially made in order to get in-depth reporting using the data warehousing techniques to store, extract, retrieve data for presentation so that there is no performance degradation on the OLTP system.
Now CRM analytics is just technically like any ERP module analytics (be it CO, FI, SD etc.: if you put aside the diff. kinds of extraction techniques) and like them needs a BI system. The different modeling techniques have to be built normally on a separate BIW system and the results are applied back to business processes in CRM/ERP.
Since netweaver 2004 the BI content as an addon as against the prior releases. Not many customers follow the idea of performing the BI related transactions on the same system as the CRM is unless you have a really robust hardware.

  • How is the graphics performance with the HD4000 GPU forced on

    How folks....
I am wondering if anyone here is running there rMBP with the HD4000 GPU forced on (using gfxCardStatus.)
I always run with the integrated GPU on my Late 2011 MBP 15 (the GPU performance is adequate for me this way with the HD3000.)
Since there are a lot more pixels to drive on the rMBP, I wonder if the scrolling, screen switching, going to mission control and back, etc. suffers when using the integrated GPU only. I wonder if anyone is willing to give this a try? This might also fix the graphics corruptions problem you guys have been seeing when coming back from sleep with the rMBP.
gfxCardStatus download link: http://codykrieger.com/gfxCardStatus (v 2.2.1 supports Mountain Lion as well as the Retina MBP.)

    Karan

I've got a 1.8 with upgraded RAM and have had no problems outputting to my 720p display. Some previous posts have stated that doing 1080i with a compressed feed is the only thing that is too much and you need the new model for that.

Query Performance – Is "Aggregates" the way out for me?
    /people/vikash.agrawal/blog/2006/04/17/query-performance-150-is-aggregates-the-way-out-for-me
° the OLAP cache is architected to store query result sets and to give all users access to those result sets.
If a user executes a query, the result set for that query’s request can be stored in the OLAP cache; if that same query (or a derivative) is then executed by another user, the subsequent query request can be filled by accessing the result set already stored in the OLAP cache.
In this way, a query request filled from the OLAP cache is significantly faster than queries that receive their result set from database access
° The indexes that are created in the fact table for each dimension allow you to easily find and select the data
    see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/80/1a6473e07211d2acb80000e829fbfe/content.htm
° when you load data into the InfoCube, each request has its own request ID, which is included in the fact table in the packet dimension.
This (besides giving the possibility to manage/delete single request) increases the volume of data, and reduces performance in reporting, as the system has to aggregate with the request ID every time you execute a query. Using compressing, you can eliminate these disadvantages, and bring data from different requests together into one single request (request ID 0).
This function is critical, as the compressed data can no longer be deleted from the InfoCube using its request IDs and, logically, you must be absolutely certain that the data loaded into the InfoCube is correct.
    see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ca/aa6437e7a4080ee10000009b38f842/content.htm
° by using partitioning you can split up the whole dataset for an InfoCube into several, smaller, physically independent and redundancy-free units. Thanks to this separation, performance is increased when reporting, or also when deleting data from the InfoCube.

  • Performance with the new Mac Pros?

I sold my old Mac Pro (first generation) a few months ago in anticipation of the new line-up. In the meantime, I purchased a i7 iMac and 12GB of RAM. This machine is faster than my old Mac for most Aperture operations (except disk-intensive stuff that I only do occasionally).
I am ready to purchase a "real" Mac, but I'm hesitating because the improvements just don't seem that great. I have two questions:
    1. Has anyone evaluated qualitative performance with the new ATI 5870 or 5770? Long ago, Aperture seemed pretty much GPU-constrained. I'm confused about whether that's the case anymore.
    2. Has anyone evaluated any of the new Mac Pro chips for general day-to-day use? I'm interested in processing through my images as quickly as possible, so the actual latency to demosaic and render from the raw originals (Canon 1-series) is the most important metric. The second thing is having reasonable performance for multiple brushed-in effect bricks.
I'm mostly curious if anyone has any experience to point to whether it's worth it -- disregarding the other advantages like expandability and nicer (matte) displays.
    Thanks.
    Ben

Thanks for writing. Please don't mind if I pick apart your statements.
"For an extra $200 the 5870 is a no brainer." I agree on a pure cost basis that it's not a hard decision. But I have a very quiet environment, and I understand this card can make a lot of noise. To pay money, end up with a louder machine, and on top of that realize no significant benefit would be a minor disaster.
So, the more interesting question is: has anyone actually used the 5870 and can compare it to previous cards? A 16-bit 60 megapixel image won't require even .5GB of VRAM if fully tiled into it, for example, so I have no ability, a priori, to prove to myself that it will matter. I guess I'm really hoping for real-world data. Perhaps you speak from this experience, Matthew? (I can't tell.)
Background work and exporting are helpful, but not as critical for my primary daily use. I know the CPU is also used for demosaicing or at least some subset of the render pipeline, because I have two computers that demonstrate vastly different render-from-raw response times with the same graphics card. Indeed, it is this lag that would be the most valuable of all for me to reduce. I want to be able to flip through a large shoot and see each image at 100% as instantaneously as possible. On my 2.8 i7 that process takes about 1 second on average (when Aperture doesn't get confused and mysteriously stop rendering 100% images).

    Hello,
when I'm connecting my 19'' TFT to the MacBook the performance (with the same applications runnig) is realy bad. It tooks longer to switch between apps and if I don't use an app for some time, it can took up to 30 sec to "reactivate" the app.
Because the HD is working when I switch apps, it looks like the OS is swapping. My question: Would it help to upgrade the MacBook to 2GB ram? AFAIC the intel card uses shared memory.
    Thanks for your help

How much RAM do you have? Remember that the MB does not have dedicated VRAM like some computers do and that it uses the system RAM to drive the graphics chipset.
I use my MB with the mini-DVI to DVI adapter to drive a 20" widescreen monitor without any of the problems that you describe, but I have 2GB of RAM. If you only have the stock 512MB of RAM, that may be part of what you are seeing.

  • Performance with LinkedList in java

    Hello All,
Please suggest me any solution to further improve the performance with List.
The problem description is as follows:
I have a huge number of objects, lets say 10,000 , and need to store the objects in such a collection so that if i want to store an object at some particular index i , I get the best performance.
I suppose as I need indexed based access, using List makes the best sense as Lists are ordered.
Using LinkedList over ArrayList gives the better performance in the aforementioned context.
Is there are way I can further improve the performance of LinkedList while solving this particular problem
    OR
Is there any other index based collection using that i get better performance than LinkedList?
    Thanks in advance

The trouble with a LinkedList as implemented in the Java libraries is that if you want to insert at index 100, it has no option but to step through the first 100 links of the list to find the insert point. Likewise is you retrieve by index. The strength of the linked list approach is lost if you work by index and the List interface gives no other way to insert in the middle of the list. The natural interface for a linked list would include an extended Iterator with methods for insert and replace. Of course LinkedLists are fine when you insert first or last.
My guess would be that if your habitual insertion point was half way or more through the list then ArrayList would serve you better especially if you leave ample room for growth. Moving array elements up is probably not much more expensive, per element, than walking the linked list. Maybe 150% or thereabouts.
Much depends on how you retrieve, and how volatile the list is. Certainly if you are a read-mostly situation and cannot use an iterator then a LinkedList won't suit.
