LabVIEW popup window focus

I have a VI which scans several analog output voltages while measuring an input voltage.  It takes several minutes to complete a run, so I would like to be able to work on other things while it's running.  I don't want to forget about it, however, so I want it to let me know when it has finished so I can start another run.
The obvious thing would be to emit a "beep" when it's done.  But this computer has no speakers, and unless someone knows how to force LabView to use the built-in motherboard buzzer, then next best thing would be a popup window.  I can make a popup dialog window with no problem (i.e. the "One Buttom Dialog.vi"), BUT the popup window must grab focus from whatever other Windows application I'm using: MATLAB, explorer, firefox, etc.  Grabbing focus, I cannot figure out.  The dialog window pops up, but I don't see it unless LabView is the application with focus.  It comes up behind Explorer, or MATLAB, etc.
Any advice?

Does the Beep.vi under the Graphics and Sound palette use the motherboard speaker? I'm not sure if it does. I have a laptop, and I know it uses the PC Speaker, but I don't know if this is true for desktops. That might be an option.
Instead of using the built in popup function make your own. Make a SubVI that uses a while loop and simply states something like, "Restart Test" and then a boolean to stop that while loop. For this new VI, go to VI Properties -> Windows Appearance. In the bottom left of this menu there is a radio button with 4 items. Select the last one, which is Custom, and then click the customize button. Under window Behavior Select "Floating" and under that deselct "Allow user to minimize window". In the bottom left select "Show front panel when called" and "Close afterwards if originally closed". This will give you the behavior in a popup you are looking for.

  • Dynamic Action on "Get Focus" After Closing a Popup Window

    Hi,
    From one of APEX Application Pages I am calling a Popup Window where users can create a new record. In the Popup Window once the record is created and window is closed, I want to refresh the region on the main page to show the record created in the popup window.
    How do I create a dynamic action which will fire when the main APEX window gets the focus (after the popup window is closed). ?
    Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ashish Agarwal
    http://www.asagarwal.com

    Assuming that you have a dynamic action in the parent page which refreshes the region
    <li> Make a note of the event which triggers your dynamic action, lets call this event A.
    <li> Create a JS function in parent page which triggers event A when called.
    For example if your Dynamic Action trigger is a button(id ="P100_REFRESH") press event
    Your JS function could be
    function Trigger_refreshRegion()
      $('#P100_REFRESH').click();
    The way in which you simulate the Dynamic action deoends on the firing event that you have used, so modify it appropriately.
    <li>Now in the pop up page, if you are closing the page in JS using smthing like window.close() or so,
    just call the parent page's refresh JS function there using the
      opener.Trigger_refreshRegion(); //whatever was the name of the function that you created.

  • Migration from 1.6 to Apex 3.1 - Popup windows no longer working

    We just moved our application to Apex 3.1 from HTMLDB 1.6. The only thing that is not working since we migrated is the popup window that used to work. Now a window still pops up, but it is the login screen, not the expected window, and even if one logs in at that point, it just takes them back to the main screen, not to the expected popup window. Is there some setting I have to change to make it work as it did before, or does the code go somewhere else now? This is the code:
    The URL redirect of a button on the calling page: javascript:callMyPopup('P4_PRI_CONTACT_ID');
    The javascript on that same page: <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    function callMyPopup (formItem1) {
    var formVal1 = document.getElementById(formItem1).value;
    var url;
    url = 'f?p=&APP_ID.:10:::::P10_CONTACT_ID:' + formVal1 ;
    w = open(url,"winLov","Scrollbars=1,resizable=1,width=800,height=600");
    if (w.opener == null)

  • Deadlock between "Save as" dialog box and another popup window in Firefox

    I have only seen this problem with recent versions of Firefox on Mac OS X, and I have run into it several times in the last few months (I am using Firefox 9), where Firefox seems to get into a dead-lock, and I can't find anyway round this except killing and restarting Firefox.
    The dead-lock happens when I am in the "Save as" dialog box -- i.e. the popup when I try to save something. If I get a pop-up window warning me that the script on some webpage is unresponsive, this leads to a dead-lock. The reason is this popup expects a response from me -- to stop or let the script continue, but it is unable to accept my response, I assume because the "Save As" dialog box has the focus, but I am unable to continue with the "Save As" dialog (I simply get a beep if I press the save or cancel buttons), presumably because of the "unresponsive" popup is expecting my response.
    I don't know if the "unresponsive script" popup happens because I am taking too long with the "Save As" dialog, or if it is prompted by the script from another page (I have many tabs opened)
    Is there anyway to get around this without killing the Firefox process? Also, can this problem be fixed so that the dead-lock does not occur?

    As I said, the problem is not because Firefox is hanging, or because I cannot save my files. It is happening because the "unrespnsive script" popup is allowed to occur while I am in the "Save As" dialog -- i.e. I have chosen to save something, e.g. a web page, and this prompt the "Save As" dialog, i.e. where I specify the file name and where to save to -- this is working fine.
    However, when you are in the "Save As" dialog, the "Save As" window is the only window of Firefox that you can interact with. However, if the "unresponsive script" popup window happens to pop-up when you are inside the "Save As" dialog (which does not occur very often, and I have not encounter it except on recent versions of Firefox o the Mac; I have used Firefox on Windows and Linux for many years), then you get into this dead-lock, because you cannot answer the "unresponsive script" pop-up (i.e to continue or terminate the script), as you cannot interact with the new pop-up window, but at the same time, you cannot continue with the "Save As" dialog -- you can interact with the "Save As" window (i.e. press buttons etc.), but the actions are ignored.
    To be clear, what I suspect I am seeing is a bug in the User interface code for the Mac version of Firefox.
    I have noticed yesterday that I got an "unresponsive script" pop-up on the Windows version of Firefox immediately after I have finished my "Save As" dialog. I have no way of being certain (unless I look at the code), but my guess is that the "unresponsive script" pop-up was delayed until after I finished the "Save As" dialog on the Windows version, i.e. option 3 in my previous post, but this does not seem to happen on the Mac version.

  • TIP: Building Modal Popup Windows

    Build Modal Popup Pages
    Introduction
    The following is based on the 'How To Document' - 'Build Custom Popup Pages'.
    This How To will show the developer how to create Modal Popup windows with the ability to pass information back to the parent window.
    Example Scenario
    The example described in this how to adds a custom modal popup LOV to a form on the SCOTT.EMP table. Clicking the popup LOV link on the form page will popup a Modal LOV page that allows users to search by ENAME, JOB, and SAL. Selecting a value from this LOV page will close that popup LOV page and populate the ENAME, JOB, and SAL fields on the form page with the selected values. Additionally, had the user entered some data into the ENAME, JOB, and/or SAL fields on the form page, that data would be used in the initial search when the popup LOV page is first shown.
    Step 1 - Create a simple form page on SCOTT.EMP
    To create the form page, simply step through the HTML DB "Form on a Table or View" wizard against the EMP table accepting the defaults. For this example, create the form with a page number of one, and make sure to allow the ename, job, and sal fields to be editable. When the wizard completes, page 1 of the application should have the items P1_ENAME, P1_JOB, and P1_SAL on it as text fields.
    Step 2 - Create a popup page with search fields
    Next, create a page that's to be used as the popup window: Page 2. Ultimately, this page will have javascript, a report region, and some buttons. For now, though, just create a page 2 with the items P2_ENAME, P2_JOB, and P2_SAL on it as text fields.
    Step 3 - Set Modal popup page header requirements
    A) Modal windows by default cache the information they display. When creating a popup window which displays different information each time it is called or to allow searching the caching default must be switched off.
    Add the following meta-tag to the "HTML Header" field of the page-level attributes screen for page 2 to accomplish this:
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache">
    B) Modal windows by default open a new window when running any redirect calls. When creating a modal popup which passes back parameters to the parent window. The modal window has to be forced to fire redirect calls within its own window rather than open a new window for the redirect.
    Add the following tag to the "HTML Header" field of the page-level attributes screen for page 2 to accomplish this:
    <base target="_self">
    Step 4 - Add Javascript call to the popup page
    Because the popup page should filter its result set based on any values that the user might have entered onto the form page, you need to add a javascript function that would pass those values off. Add the following function to the "HTML Header" field of the page-level attributes screen for page 1 to accomplish this:
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
      function callMyPopup (formItem1,formItem2,formItem3) {
        var formVal1 = document.getElementById(formItem1).value;
        var formVal2 = document.getElementById(formItem2).value;
        var formVal3 = document.getElementById(formItem3).value;
        var url;
      url = 'f?p=&APP_ID.:2:&APP_SESSION.::::P2_ENAME,P2_JOB,P2_SAL:' + formVal1 + ',' + formVal2 + ',' + formVal3 ;
      // IE Browsers modal popup window
      if (window.showModalDialog) {
        w = showModalDialog(url, window.self,"status:0; scroll:1; resizable:1; dialogWidth:25; dialogHeight:43");
        // w is an array returned from the modal popup containing the passback values
        if (w) {
          document.getElementById("P1_ENAME").value = w[0];
          document.getElementById("P1_JOB").value = w[1];
          document.getElementById("P1_SAL").value = w[2];
          document.getElementById("P1_SAL").focus();
      else {
      // mozilla based browsers modal popup window
      w = open(url,"winLov","Scrollbars=1,resizable=1,width=800,height=600", modal="yes");
      if (w.opener == null)
        w.opener = self;
      w.focus();
    </script>Though you don't need to know how to read javascript for this example, it helps to understand that this function only does one important thing: it opens a modal popup window of page two in our application while passing values to P2_ENAME, P2_JOB, and P2_SAL. It gathers those values to pass from the names of the HTML DB items provided to it. The call to this function will be added in the next step below.
    Step 5 - Add a popup link next to the P1_SAL field on the form page
    Add a link to the form page that will call the callMyPopup function above and pass it the values it needs. To do so, place the following HTML in the "Post Element Text" field attribute of the P1_SAL item:
    <~a href="javascript:callMyPopup('P1_ENAME','P1_JOB','P1_SAL');">Click for LOV<~/a>NB. remove ~ from above when deploying
    Step 6 - Add the LOV report to the popup page
    The next step is to create a report on the popup page based on the values passed from the form on page one. The tricky part of this report is providing a means for the selected values to be passed back to the form page. This can be achieved by having a column of the report render as a javascript link that would close the popup window and pass the ename, job and sal values for that row back. Start by adding a simple report region to our Modal popup page that uses a query such as:
          select ename, job, sal , 'placeholder' the_link
            from emp
           where ename like '%'||:P2_ENAME||'%'
             and (job = :P2_JOB or :P2_JOB is null)
             and (sal = :P2_SAL or :P2_SAL is null)Note that the last column in this query is just a placeholder. once the region is created, turn that placeholder into a link by doing the following:
    Navigate to the Page Definition for page 2
    Next to the name of the report region created in step 6, Click Q
    Next to the column THE_LINK, click the edit icon
    In the "Link Text" field enter the string "select"
    In the URL field enter: javascript:passBack('#ENAME#','#JOB#','#SAL#'); Click the "Apply Changes" button
    Step 7 - Add the javascript function to the Modal popup page to pass selected values to the (parent) form page.
    In the previous step you added a call to a javascript function, passBack. Now add that function to the top of Modal popup page 2. In the same manner as step 4 above, add that passBack function to the page 2 by putting it in the "HTML Header" field of the page-level attributes screen. The function should look similar to the following:
    <script language="JavaScript">
       function passBack(passVal1, passVal2, passVal3)
         // IE Browser return the passback values in an array
         if (window.showModalDialog) {
           var retVal = new Array(passVal1, passVal2, passVal3);
           window.returnValue = retVal;
           window.close();
         // Mozilla based browsers right the passback values directly into the parent window
         else {
           opener.document.getElementById("P1_ENAME").value = passVal1;
           opener.document.getElementById("P1_JOB").value = passVal2;
           opener.document.getElementById("P1_SAL").value = passVal3;
           opener.document.getElementById("P1_SAL").focus();
           close();
    </script>This function simply sets the values of P1_ENAME, P1_JOB, and P1_SAL with the values of the whatever's stored to the three HTML DB item names passed to it. It also closes the current window and puts the cursor back into the P1_SAL field.
    Step 8 - Polishing
    The basic functionality of this custom modal popup window has been created in steps 1 though 7. To make its usage a little more friendly, it's advisable to add Cancel and Search buttons to the popup window page. The Search button should just be added as a regular button that branches back to the page 2. Adding this button allows users to re-query for LOV options without having to return to our form page. The Cancel button should be created with an "Action" of "Redirect to URL". The "URL Target" of the button should be javascript:window.close(). As the code suggests, the Cancel button would just close the popup window (with no values returned).
    Hope this is of use....

    Everything said above is working fine but in Mozilla small popup is coming in top left corner of browser..
    so please help me so that it is opened in proper width and height in mozilla.

  • How to set the width and heigh in the popup window

    Hi All,
    I tried to show a report in a popup window style.
    In the column link section, I defined the URL like the following:
    javascript:popupURL('f?p=&APP_ID.:128:&SESSION.::&DEBUG.::P128_PAY_RATE,P128_PAY_TERMS:#PAY_RATE#,#PAY_TERMS#'). how and where to set the height and width for page 128?
    Thank you,
    spark

    Here is a sample of the JavaScript function I re-use that opens a popup window. You'll notice that it includes the width and height of the popup window:
      function callTCPopup (formItem1) {
        var formVal1 = formItem1;
         var url;
      url = 'f?p=&APP_ID.:1111:&APP_SESSION.::::P1111_TC_ID:' + formVal1;
      w = open(url,"winLov","Scrollbars=1,resizable=1,width=800,height=600");
      if (w.opener == null)
      w.opener = self;
      w.focus();
      }You could also look at using a Modal Page (Skillbuilders' plugin - watch the video for use).

  • Problem with onBlur="window.focus()"

    Hi,
    inside the body tag of a popup widow i have used onBlur="window.focus()" and it is working fine i.e. when i tried to click on parent window the focus transfers back to popup window but i tried this by clicking like hundred times it fails i.e. the focus transfers to parent window.
    Does this function depends on number of click.
    manish

    Hi,
    No the problem is still there and it is not related to no of clicks because today for the just first time it failed.
    U have written
    "except maybe you can use onBlur and onFocus to set a variable to indicate the state and use setInterval to constantly check that every couple seconds as a backup to push it forward."
    i have not used this setInterval. ok let me tell u how i have used.
    In the parent page when it popups a window i have set a flag(global var.) to true and in the body tag (of parent itself) i used "onFocus="javascript:chkChildWin()""
    <script language="Javascript" >
    function chkChildWin()
    if(childFlag)
              cal_setFocus()// method to set the focus to popupwindow
    </script>and inside the popup window body tag i used
    onBlur="window.focus()"
    when user selects some thing from popup window or it closes the popup window then variable is reset to false. and as it is clear from the above mentioned code that parent window checks this flag on its focus method.
    sometimes it work fine and sometimes it does not.
    I don't know how to solve a problem which is not consistent, i mean this occurs randomly.
    plz help me out

  • Blocking popup windows even when disabling the popup blocker

    For quite some time now, Firefox has been blocking essential popup windows on my computer. It's not just those annoying ones, even those when I am trying to write an email and similar things. I have disabled the popup blocker and it does not change anything at all. It does not alert me that it has blocked anything either, it is simply as if I never clicked anything in the first place. I have tried adding exceptions to my popup blocker, and this does not work either. This is really frustrating and is interfering with my daily use of firefox, and forces me to use crappy explorer which does not block things. What can I do?

    Hi Sachin
    Thank you so much for the reply.
    About your request, the codes that I used are:
    HTML for the PopUp:
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    function popUp(URL) {
    var iMyWidth;
    var iMyHeight;
    //half the screen width minus half the new window width (plus 5 pixel borders).
    iMyWidth = (window.screen.width/2) - (250 + 10);
    //half the screen height minus half the new window height (plus title and status bars).
    iMyHeight = (window.screen.height/2) - (225 + 50);
    //Open the window.
    var win2 = window.open("http://xarao.businesscatalyst.com/caipiroska.html","Window2","status=no,height=450,width=500,resizable=yes,left=" + iMyWidth + ",top=" + iMyHeight + ",screenX=" + iMyWidth + ",screenY=" + iMyHeight + ",toolbar=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,location=no,directories=no");
    win2.focus();
    </SCRIPT>
    For the Link:
    javascript:popUp('http://xarao.businesscatalyst.com/caipiroska.html')
    Of course for all the different links in the page I've changed the http of each image in both codes.

    Thank you once more.

  • Popup Window- Button Actionscript

    Does anyone have the code that combines actionscript w/ java
    in order to create a popup window from a flash button? I couldn't

  • Popup window

    Why is it that  I can't reuse a popup window whenever I open a portal window from javascript as follows?
    < script >
    var popWin = window.open("http://copdev01.lds.com:50000/irj", "PopupWindow");
    popWin.focus();
    < / script>
    If I include the "irj" in the path, it opens up a new popup window everytime I invoke this code. If I exclude the "irj", a new instance of the window is opened everytime.
    Vijay

    Hi,
    I'm assuming your button Edit Entry is part of Grid (within ItemTemplate).
    So write method, where for each row you write javascript onclick event on button.
    foreach (GridViewRow row in grid.Rows)
    btnAdd.Attributes.Add("onClick","return eventName();)");
    That's it, write eventName() function which will open window.
     function eventName() {
            var link = <urltowindow>;
            var options = {
                title: 'Title',
                url: link,
                allowMaximize: false,
                width: 600
            SP.UI.ModalDialog.showModalDialog(options);
            return false;

  • Session lost (IE5 & IE6) when opening popup window.

    Ok, I've been struggling with this problems for days and spent countless hours with google without finding any decent solutions.
    I'm building a ecommerce site and if the user want to see additional information + pictures from a product, he/she can open a popup window that also has "add to cart"-submit field.
    UserID and some other necessary data is kept in sessions but IE5 / IE6 seems to loose these in this new window when opening it via javascript (popup).
    If I have understood right, the session is lost because IE considers the new window as a new task and therefore it is out of the "session scope".
    Ok, one might say that using encodeUrl()-method should fix this problem, but no it doesn't. encodeURL()-method writes the session to URL only when user has disabled the cookies and in my situation it's not the case.
    Has anyone here been struggling with the problem above ? I've been considering if I encode the UserID and other information manually to the URL and decode it back in the popup, but that brings n+1 security issues to my mind and doesn't really sound like a decent solution.
    Thanks in advance,
    - Roni
    p.s: Sorry about my crappy english.

    Hmm,
    I did a small test and managed to get the sessions to work with IE.
    the main page:
    <%@ page language="java" %>
    <%
    session.setAttribute("foo", "bar");
    %>
    <html><head><title>sessiontest</title>
    <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    function popUp(URL) {
    options="toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,status=no," + "menubar=no,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=416,height=465, left = 362,top = 184";
    var Infowindow=window.open(URL, "Infowindow" ,options);
    Infowindow.focus();
    -->
    </script>
    </head>
    <body>
    sessionattribute <b>foo</b> has value <b>bar</b><p>
    <a href="javascript:popUp('<%= response.encodeURL("sessiondebugpopup.jsp") %>')">link to popup</a>
    </body>
    </html>popup:
    <%@ page language="java" %>
    <html><head><title>sessiontestpopup</title>
    </script>
    </head>
    <body>
    attribute value is:<p>
    <b><%= (String)session.getAttribute("foo") %>
    </body>
    </html>This works just fine, but the code in the actual application does not differ from this.
    Only difference I can figure out if that the .js popup() function is located in header.jsp and the call to the popup is in other .jsp that includes the header.
    Here's the call to the popup in the application:
    <a href="javascript:popUp('<%= response.encodeURL("pop.jsp?prod="+ rs2.getString("tuo_tuonro") +"&img="+ cnt.getPictureURL(rs2.getString("tuo_tuonro"), cnt.getUserId(user)))%>')">link</a>And the above code works just fine with firefox/opera/etc, but not with IE5/IE6 (haven't tried other IE versions though).
    This is really getting annoying.

  • How do I hide the address bar when fullscreening "popup" windows?

    Sky TV's video player has a bad fullscreen implementation - you can make the player go true fullscreen but it reverts when it loses focus, so I can't multitask on my two monitors.
    The best workaround I've found is to use their "pop-out" player, which opens a new "popup"-style window (locked address bar, no search bar etc.) and I can then fullscreen the window itself (rather than the player). This allows me to hide
    - the window outline
    - the window title bar
    - the Windows start menu
    and it stays fullscreened when it loses focus.
    However, this does not hide the window address bar. On a normal Firefox fullscreened window this slides out of view after a short time; on the locked "popup" style window it does not.
    On the offchance that treating "popup" windows differently is a deliberate Firefox security policy... can I disable it?

    You only need to select the pop-up window after having opened the Browser Console or open the console before opening the pop-up to make that window the MostRecentWindow.

  • Trying to get a popup window to work via report

    I have a need to offer a link in reporting on the Opportunity Description field where the description would be displayed in a popup window (I do not wish to launch another child OOD window via prompt report). The fact that these description field can be quite long and make reports difficult to read drives this request. I am currently looking at overriding the data statement on the column in question. For example, I can easily do the following:
    @[html]"<a href=""http://www.cnn.com"">"@"</a>" -which simply proves that I can embed html code with the column value
    I have tried the following with no success:
    @[html"<a href=""javascript:mywindow=window.open('','','width=200,height=100');
    mywindow.document.write('"@"');mywindow.focus();"">"@"</a>"
    I have a feeling that the problem lies in the escaping of the quotes but hoping that someone else may have the answer.  Also, if there is a better way to accomplish what I'm trying to do, please chime in.

    Hi Glfnute,
    When writing the HTML code in column formula, ensure you start it with a single quote and also end the expression with it. So your code will look something like this:
    '{<}a href = "http://.... com" target="_blank" {>}' || column name here || '{<}/a{>}'
    Using target = blank will open your link in new window.
    Curly brackets are used above to prevent the text from getting rendered as an html over here. Remove them and use the remaining string in your report.
    I hope this helps.

  • Popup window size problem

    Hi,
    For some reason, the popup window link in my Flash website
    opens up a popup which doesn't behave to the window size rules I
    set.
    The website is www.caveataudiens.net , click on the 'music'
    button, and then on the Jukebox button to see as example.
    The Jukebox button has the following actionscript:
    on (release) {
    //customize the window that gets opened
    // 0 equals NO.
    // 1 equals YES.
    address = "
    http://www.caveataudiens.net/music/mp3player.html";
    target_winName = "kirupa";
    width = 400;
    height = 300;
    toolbar = 0;
    location = 0;
    directories = 0;
    status = 0;
    menubar = 0;
    scrollbars = 1;
    resizable = 0;
    //sends data back to the function
    openWinCentre(address, target_winName, width, height,
    toolbar, location, directories, status, menubar, scrollbars,
    resizable);
    and in my main actionscript layer I have:
    stopAllSounds();
    forum_btn.onRelease = function() {
    getURL("
    http://www.flaccidsacks.co.uk/phpBB2/",
    "_blank");
    music_btn.onRelease = function() {
    gotoAndStop("music");
    links_btn.onRelease = function() {
    gotoAndStop("links");
    about_btn.onRelease = function() {
    gotoAndStop("about");
    news_btn.onRelease = function() {
    gotoAndStop("news");
    Movieclip.prototype.openWinCentre = function (url, winName,
    w, h, toolbar, location, directories, status, menubar, scrollbars,
    resizable) {
    getURL ("javascript:var myWin; if(!myWin ||
    myWin.closed){myWin = window.open('" + url + "','" + winName +
    "','" + "width=" + w + ",height=" + h + ",toolbar=" + toolbar +
    ",location=" + location + ",directories=" + directories +
    ",status=" + status + ",menubar=" + menubar + ",scrollbars=" +
    scrollbars + ",resizable=" + resizable +
    ",top='+((screen.height/2)-(" + h/2 +
    "))+',left='+((screen.width/2)-(" + w/2 + "))+'" +
    "')}else{myWin.focus();};void(0);");
    Can some kind soul help me figure out how to adjust the
    window size?
    Many thanks
    lyle

    Any ideas?
    When I change the settings for toolbar, status, etc, then the
    changes take effect, it seems though only the width and height
    don't work for some reason.
    I would be very grateful for any suggestions
    Thanks
    Lyle
