Labview Synthesiser: Problem outputting sound via MacBook soundcard

Hi all!
First time posting here, hopefully i'm in the right section of the forum. Anyway, i'm a part time student and currently studying a module on Labview in university. As a mini project i decided to build a synth using Labview. I've it mostly built but i'm having a bit of trouble outputting sound to the soundcard. I'm also having a bit of trouble getting the waveforms to play for a longer time period.
I was sort of copying the setup of one of the example VIs (generating sound vi i think) and another vi i found online but i can't seem to get mine to work using my synth design. I've two problems, one is that the waveform only plays for a very short time but the main problem is that i'm getting an error (error 4803) saying the soundcard cannot accomodate the specified configuration but as far as i can see my setup is more or less the same as the generating sound vi (which works on my fine macbook). Obviously i'm missing something so i decided to come on here and ask for help.
I'm guessing the datatype connected to my sound output configure vi could be causing a problem since it has a red dot on the input terminal. Any suggestions on how i should fix this?
I've my vi attached. Any help would be appreciated!
Cheers!
Edit: I've already fixed the error 4803 problem. Had to change the input to the sound output configure sub vi. Now i just have to figure out how to get the sound to play for longer. Any ideas anyone?

OK. You have several problems.
The cluster order in your Format cluster is Rate, Bits, Channels while the order in the "sound format" cluster on Sound Output Configure.vi is sample rate (S/s), number of channels, bits per sample. LabVIEW connects clusters according to the cluster order. How to avoid this: Pop up on the sound format conpane terminal on the Sound Output Configure.vi icon on the block diagram and choose Create Control. That will put a control with the same names and cluster order on the front panel. You can edit the names if you wish as long as you do not change the cluster order. The alternate is to Unbundle the data from your cluster control and then bundle it to the input cluster. I show this in the modification of your VI attached.
The VI does not respond to the Stop button until the event structure executes, which only happens when a key is pressed. Fix: Add an event case for the Stop Value Changed event. I show this in the modification of your VI attached.
The VI does not recognize changes in Octave, Amplitude, Osc Select, or Filter Frequency until the second keypress after changing any of these controls. Why? Dataflow. Those controls are probably read within microseconds after an iteration of the for loop starts. They are not read again until the next iteration regardless of when or how many times they are changed. The loop will not iterate until the Event structure completes, which only happens when a key is pressed. The Fix: Event cases for Value Changes on those controls. Note that this does not work because now there is no defined frequency. So, you also need some shift registers. Because of the problems mentioned, I did not put this into the modified VI.
Next, the event structure freezes the front panel until the code inside has completed. This becomes quite apparent when you set the duration to 2 seconds and press several keys quickly. The fix to this and the problem in the paragraph above is a parallel loop archtitecture, such as the Producer/Consumer Design Pattern.
Not a problem but a different way of doing something: Use Scale by Power of 2 from the Numeric palette in place of the case structure connected to Octave.  I show this in the modification of your VI attached.
Now to your question about tone duration: The duration of a signal generated by the Sine Waveform.vi and the others is determined by the sampling frequency and the number of samples. You are a student so you can do the math. You need to adjust the number of samples because the sampling frequency is fixed.
The modified VI works fine on my iMac.

Can anyone help me please? I have read that i should install the mac x os and after that with the bootcamp install the windows xp or windows 7, but i don't have the mac x os and i'm a neewbie in mac stuff. Thanks for all the help that someone could give me.

    Try it like this:

Just because the class exists, it doesn't mean that it is loaded. First
    instantiate
a 'Test' object, then try your code.

  • Input/output sound for MacBook Pro 10.6.8

The sound is not working properly for my narrated powerpoint presentation. I have recorded it on my MacBook Pro 10.6.8 and I get some sound but it sounds like feedback or something (like a scary phantom voice). I am using the internal microphone and internal speakers. I have checked the sound volume and speech recognition and have calibrated this. I am using powerpoint for Mac 2011 v. 14.4.1. What's happening?
Hoping someone can help, I desperately need it to work!
    Thanks in advance.

If your computer shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, it'll have come with a DVD. If needed, phone Apple and order a replacement.
Unless you got Mac OS X Server with it, which is highly unlikely for a portable computer, that DVD will contain iLife.

  • Problems connecting sound from macbook - LCD TV

    Hi all,
Im having issues connecting my macbook pro to my LG LCD telly. I have an HDMI connection working fine so the picture is sorted but I cant get the sound to work. I have tried a jack-jack cable and also a jack to red and white cable too, but neither work.
Any ideas? Im thinking maybe is it because the audio input on the TV does not link with the hdmi input?- I have tried all the different holes at the back of the telly so i'm running out of ideas. Any help much appreciated

If your TV has digital input try a Toslink cable ?
The stereo jack to red/white phono should work perfectly well though (I use the same thing alongside HDMI) sure it's in the right sockets ? (had to ask)
This device/cable combo will give you an audio signal to your HDMI cable:

  • How to output sound from MacBook Pro to stereo receiver/amplifier?

Does anyone here know what I would need to buy to send audio from my MacBook Pro to an external integrated stereo amplifier? I'm sure there's something. I'd like best quality so if you know of a USB solution please let me know.

Typo above, 'headphone port' not 'headphone post.'
Glad to help, and thanks for the !
FYI, the mic port is the same, so if you have a need to get digital audio into your MBP, the mic port will do that as well as analog.
The headphone port actually does triple-duty, in that it's both analog and digital out, and with the longer plug found on the iPhone headset, the headphone port can also function as an analog input.

  • Output sound distortion when USB Mic Connected

    Hi everyone,
Really appreciate anyone’s help on this sound distortion problem.
I have been using the new 2014 iMac 27' for last 8 Months, bought Brand New, and recently updated to Yosemite. Everything worked fine including recording, until this update.
I'm using Blue Yeti USB Mic for recording, and few days after the update I was trying to record in GarageBand and the output sound (via headphone connected to USB MIc) started to distort and then suddenly dropped the bitrate/ sound and I could only hear some clicks. I reinstalled the GargeBand, still its the same distortion happens. The sound gets back to normal, only for few seconds, after I unplug the USB cable from the Mic device. And I tried changing the bit rate and again sounds starts to drop after few sec. This happens only when I connect the Blue Yeti USB Mic and sound output from the Mic itself. Same thing happens with iTunes as well. Output sound from Internal mic and speakers are working fine as normal.
I tried connecting the USB Mic to my Windows laptop and its working fine with the Cubase 5 without any problem. So the problem is with the output sound, when external Mic connected.
I don’t know the solution for this. Have checked on every single blog/ thread, sill couldn’t find the answer I’m looking for, to fix this.
It would be great if you have any kind of a solution for the same.

Nope. The larger buffer didn't work. What did work was running a cord out of the 1/4-inch jack from the direct box to a 1/4-to-1/8-inch adapter and then into the mic/line-in jack on my computer. I set GarageBand to use the built-in line-in and had no static problems. It's a stopgap until this gets fixed.

  • Output Sound Problem

Has anyone noticed that output sound on the itunes is distorted and after opening and playing the same file in QuickTime that the problem is gone?
I am using iTunes to open and play a sound file, say an imported CD song, and the sound is distorted.
Checking the preferences option to perform a Sound Check helps but does not completely solve the problem. After opening Quicktime and opening the same file, the output sound is fine, in both applications?
It seems that all was well before my update of the applications and the Firmware. Should I be suspicious of that as the culprit or is this some other symtom of impending doom?
The sound problem is on internal speakers, earbuds, or a set of sennheiser headphones.

I might have the same problem. Playing audio occasionally becomes very scratchy, to the point that I have to stop listening. It usually lasts a few minutes. It's maddening.
It happens via the internal speakers or through headphones.
Occurrence isn't very consistent. I notice it most in iTunes (v7), but that's probably only because I play most audio in iTunes. I've had it happen now when playing video in VLC, too. It seems to only happen after playing audio continuously for at least 10 minutes. I haven't been able to reproduce it at will, so I haven't bothered taking it to my local Genius bar yet (at least not for this problem).

  • My phone no longer outputs any sound via it's speakers

    iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.3
My phone no longer outputs any sound via it's speakers. I can hear sound with headphones and also if it is connected by the dock connector it will output sound to whatever it is connected to.
I have tried plugging and unplugging headphones several times thinking that it is stuck in headphone mode but that did not resolve the problem. I tried a factory reset in case it was software related but that didn't fix it either. The phone is  out of warranty.
    Thanks.

Bring your phone to Apple for out of warranty replacement.  In the US this will cost $199.

    Hello gail from Ajijic,
If you'd like to change the audio output of your Mac, you can do so by accessing the Sound preferences in your System Preferences.
Before you start, open the Output pane of Sound preferences (choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Sound, then click Output).
    Choose a sound output device
From the list of sound output devices, select the one you want to use. All sound output devices available to your Mac are listed, including the computer’s internal speakers, devices plugged into your computer’s sound port (), USB speakers, and AirPlay devices.
For any device plugged into the computer’s sound port, choose Headphones.
OS X Yosemite: Adjust your computer’s sound output settings
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

Some progess I see. To be honest, i would not waste your time with trying to connect using wireless.
You are likely to get poor connections and dropping out.
If its working using a cable, then there is no need to bother with giving me the network settings, bu see how it goes, because sometimes giving the TV a static IP address can give better results.
There is an example of a couple of powerline adapters on the diagram below. Just ignore the network switch unless you want to connect other devices which are near to the TV.

Please help

This morning i was not able to hear sound on my recently purchased  macbookpro retina 15 inch model. My attempts to resolve this issue by going to system preferences and removing the mute box that was ticked as active. i had downloaded much earlier a mac version of logmein app and noticed that in the sound  box noted above that there was a bar indicating that the default was now to logmein. i had never used this app. Why it started today, i have no idea. I moved the logmein application to trash and deleted the app , however it did not remove the default option which still blocked the sound.
Going to a macforum gave the tha anser that to remove the logmein app, it first had to be reinstalled a nd them use the uninstaller option ftrom the dropdown menu. for now that has resolved the failure to allow sound oputput.

  • No sound via digital output after reinstallation of snow leopard

    Hi,
I use my mac mini as Media Center using the XBMC.org for the last year.
yesterday, I decided to reinstall the Mac Mini, and to organize everything I have there. I erase the HDD and install the 10.6.2 retail DVD and upgrade to 10.6.4
After everything done successfully, I realize that there is no sound via the Digital I/O which works great before that process. I tried this issue with several software and even in the prefs, the only audio device is the 'Internal Speakers'
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Tomer

For DVD Output you need to set DVD Player to stream to digital audio, look here:
DVD Player -> Preferences -> Disk Setup | Audio - Audio Output
I assume you have selected "Digital Out" in:
System Preferences -> Sound - Output
    for system sounds ?
