Labview visa couldn't read and write in wireless port

Hi I have a problem using wireless serial port in Labview. I couldn't read the data from the serial port.  the Max could find the port com10 and com 11 and also find the software NI-visa 5.2 has been successfully installed.
Could anyone helps me with that? thanks!
my computer is win7 64 bits and my labview is 2012 32bits and visa is visa 5.2. Therefore is it have some problem with operating system with labivew?
and here is my program:

Hi
there is no error occur when i use visa function. I plan to use two wireless serial port to commuicate. One is on microcontroller one is on laptop. For the testing whether they could work. I use two wireless ports to plug into USB on the laptop.  One port is to write the string another is to read the string. The instrument is called "Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge" in the hardware manager.
This is my program running like this:
also I try the basic VISA read/write examples to test. But it is still not work and report error. This is example runing basic visa read/write:
By the way.Could you tell me what do you mean the " send similar commands via a VISA test panel (MAX)"?
thanks

  • Rs232 read and write from pressure transducer with command.

    New to LabVIEW and have my first task. I have connected to a Setra pressure transducer via rs232 in Com port 4. I'm trying to track and log pressure over a given period of time. A command of "P" must be sent to the transducer for it to return a pressure reading. By searching, so far I have VISA open, close, read and write on my block diagram. I tried to create a constant from the VISA read resource name and connect it to COM4, but that did not work. Not sure how to accomplish my goal or how to wire everything up correctly. Any help for a beginner is appreciated.

    That error is due to some process already having exclusive rights to the port.  Do you have Hyperterminal or something else the could be using the COM port open?  Did you not close out the VISA reference during previous runs?

    1. Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, go to Step 2.
    If there's no change after taking this step, continue.
    2. Back up all data before proceeding.

  • What is the difference between wiring a datasocket reference or a datasocket URL into Datasocket Read and Write VIs?

    Which is better? To wire a URL or a reference into Datasocket read/write?
    Does wiring in the reference save processor effort/time? Do I have to close the DS reference before I can do other things to either the same DS connection or other connections? The examples I have looked at tend to use URL's, why is this?
    (I am running Labview 7.0 on Windows 2000)

    I'd like to bring this thread back up because I'm having the same issue as Michael here.....
    I'm stumped on a the functionality of the Read/Write mode for the Datasockets Open VI.
    I've attached a picture below showing the 2 different methods of
    opening Datasocket references....In one case, I use the Read/Write mode
    for DS open, in the other case, I use 2 DS opens: One for READ and
    another for WRITE. For some reason, only the latter program works
    properly (when I open READ and WRITE separately). Why is this?
    I
    thought that if the READ/WRITE MODE was used, the output reference can
    be used with the Datasocket READ and Datasocket WRITE Vi's as shown in
    Top Vi of picture. Instead, It seems I'm unable to "change" the state
    of the Datasocket tag using the the Top Vi.
    FYI: I'm using
    DS server manager to create the item. I've also gave proper privileges
    to each computer so that they can communicate with the DS server. It
    obviously works since using the bottom VI, I get the desired results.
    What am i doing wrong?  Are my expectations for the Rea/dWrite functionality correct?

  • Why are my Datasocket OPC reads and writes so slow?

    I am creating an application (in LabView 6.1) that has to interface with 15-30 OPC tags (about half and half read and write) on a KepWare OPC server. It seems like the DSC Module would be overkill, but the datasocket write VIs seem to slow the system to a halt at about 6 tags. I saw something about using the legacy datasocket connect VIs, but would I really see a large performance boost from switching?
    In the existing code we have, I have seen that even the legacy VIs (our old code uses the older VIs) sometimes grind the system to a halt or lock it up completely if it loses sight of the OPC server. Has anyone else had problems with this?

    Hi IYUS,
    What OPC Server are you using?  What methods are you using to communicate?  If you are using IAOPC, have you installed the latest patch?
    Also, this post is nearly 2 years old.  You will probably get more visibility (and more help) if you post your questions in a new thread.

  • How do I read and write at the same time using the NI-CAN channel API?

    Here's the situation.  I have one CAN bus, and I need to read and write channel data (using the channel API) at the same time both at an interval of 20 ms.  It's easy to do one or the other using the channel API, but you can't setup a channel task to do both.  It's either input or output, not both.  Is this even possible?

    Hi,
    yes , this is possible. But you have to create two tasks, one for input and one for output. see the attached example for LabVIEW.
    If you download and install NI-CAN 2.4 you will get this example and one for C and VB as well.

  • How do I read and write to text files on a remote computer's hard drive

    I would like to read and write data to a text file on a remote computer. This is easily accomplished using one of the file functions such as "write characters to file.vi". If I am already connected to the remote computer, all I need to do is specify the path to the particular file and it will work fine.
    My problem is that I want to connect to the remote computer programatically within LabVIEW (I do not want to have to use the computer's OS to establish the connection. Is there a function that I can use to do this?

    Yariv,
    You should really start a new thread with a new question like this, so that more people see it. Some people look primarily at threads that have no responses yet. Also, don't post the exact same question in multiple places. Or, if you must cross-post to some other forum, make sure to mention it in your question text.
    I'm happy to be a brick in your Western Wall, but I'm not sure what the main objective is here. Is the main problem really getting access to the "X bytes received in Y seconds at Z bytes/sec" string? Or is it accomplishing the file transfer? And what OS and LabVIEW version are you running?
    I think your problem is that you the LabVIEW System Exec command does not allow for the degree of interactivity that you need if you want to issue a sequence of commands to a command-line executable. However, under Windows XP (and, presumably, other Windows versions, though I can't check), you can tell the FTP executable to use commands from a textfile script by using the -s switch, and you can override the prompts during multiple file transfers with the -i switch:
    ftp -i -s:FILEPATH SERVERNAME
    If you issue a command in this format to System Exec, and make sure to create a file at FILEPATH with your command sequence (one per line), then you should at least accomplish the FTP actions. This won't give you the transfer details in the standard output, unfortunately. However, if you just want a general sense of how much was transferred and how quickly it happened, you can code that in LabVIEW by getting the resulting file sizes and using Tick Count before and after the System Exec call to see how long the transfer took.
    Hope that helps,
    John

  • Modbus Ethernet read and write to a Eurotherm 6180XIO Modbus server using LV8.2 shared variables

    I am having EXTREME difficulty trying to establish communications with a Modbus device using LV8.2 shared variables.  The device is a Eurotherm 6180XIO Datalogger configured as a Modbus master.  The PC and a cFP-1804 are slaves.  All IP addresses are set correctly.  This approach using shared variables would seem simple, but I can't find any examples or proper guidance on how to get it working.  I am trying to avoid having to mess around with TCP/IP, OPC, or any other old-fashioned method.
    I have read many threads on related topics but none directly apply to this situation.  I have created a library containing a Modbus I/O server and shared variables bound to read and write holding registers.  I have followed all recommended tips for creating such variables but I can neither read or write data.  All data types are U16 due to Modbus protocol limitations.  I have also applied the LV x10 factor in the most significant digit in the register offset (6 digits instead of 5).
    I have a cFP-1804 on the same network which reads into the datalogger OK.  The registers I use are 31000 (for CH0 on module 0, 31002 for CH1, etc) and the data can be read as FLOAT32.  I have updated the firmwate on the 1804 to the latest level.  I cannot even get shared variables to read SGL values.  Using registers 301001 for CH0 and 301002 for CH1 I can only read U16 values, and not a 2-word SGL.
    Third party Modbus simulation software is able to write to and read from registers very easily, but not LabVIEW.
    Some questions are:
    - do I use a Modbus master or slave as an I/O server in the library as a target for binding the shared variables?
    - is there some other wierd translation in register offsets between LabVIEW and traditional Modbus?
    - is this actually possible using shared variables or am I wasting my time?

    Sending the whole 60-character string using a string or array would be the most efficient.  I have tried both methods, and these only cause the datalogger to flag a message log but no text is displayed.
    For a string variable, I have used the following binding "My Computer\Modbus Test.lvlib\ModbusServer6180\442305", where ModbusServer6180 is a Modbus I/O server configured with the logger IP address, and 42304 is the register offset at the start of the text block in the logger.  I need to write to 30 consecutive registers starting with this one.  I am not using buffering and have not enabled single writer.
    Can anyone confirm whether this method should work in 8.2?
    Does the string need a special termination character?

  • How to burn read and write files on DVD

    I would like to know how to burn DVDs (image files) with the Read and Write setting. I have changed the settings in Get Info for the image files to Read and Write for Owner, Group and Others and yet when I burn the DVD and try and copy the files back onto the hard drive (to test if it works or not) it won't allow me. When I check the Get Info it says Read and Write for owner (greyed out) and Read Only for Group and Others (greyed out too).
    I have also tried to change the status of the blank DVD before adding files and after adding the files (but b4 the burn) to Read and Write, this works but then during the burn process the DVD or burner changes my settings to Read Only.
    I am burning with Finder and have tried with Toast 10 Titanium. What am I doing wrong, or not doing at all?! I'm going loopy with frustration!

    Kiraly, I agree that the actual problem here might be something else, but as a side issue there seems to be a difference in the way permissions are handled when a file copy is made using Finder compared to when the copy is made using the cp copy in Terminal. At least in my Tiger system, Finder preserved the permission structure, though not the ownership, when it copied a file, whereas cp used the OS defaults.
    I tried the following experiment:
    From my test user account "t", I created a textfile named ReadWrite.txt, and gave it Read+Write permissions for Owner, Group, and Others. I then burned it using Finder to a DVD which I named PermissionTest, and then unchecked the "Ignore Ownership" box on PermissionTest.
    The original ownership and permissions were preserved on the DVD, though of course you couldn't actually write to anything there:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t$ ls -l /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 t t 15 Sep 13 18:25 /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt
    I then copied the file from the DVD to the Desktop using Finder, and the permissions were preserved!
    Finder copy:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t$ ls -l /Users/t/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 t t 15 Sep 13 18:25 /Users/t/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    I then trashed the Finder copy of ReadWrite,txt on the desktop, and made a second copy from the DVD, but this time I used the cp command from Terminal instead of using Finder. This time the permissions were not preserved, but reverted to the OS default:
    cp copy:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t$ cp /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt Desktop
    xxG5-Computer:~ t$ ls -l /Users/t/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-r--r-- 1 t t 15 Sep 13 19:43 /Users/t/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    I then switched to a different user account "t1", and repeated the above with the same DVD, first copying the ReadWrite.txt file to the desktop using Finder, and then using cp. The ownership of the copied file changed from t to t1 in both cases, but the permission structure again was preserved in the Finder copy but not in the cp copy:
    DVD file:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t1$ ls -l /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 t t 15 Sep 13 18:25 /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt
    Finder copy:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t1$ ls -l /Users/t1/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 t1 t1 15 Sep 13 18:25 /Users/t1/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    cp copy:
    xxG5-Computer:~ t1$ cp /Volumes/PermissionTest/ReadWrite.txt Desktop
    xxG5-Computer:~ t1$ ls -l /Users/t1/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    -rw-r--r-- 1 t1 t1 15 Sep 13 19:51 /Users/t1/Desktop/ReadWrite.txt
    I got similar results when I tried copying a file with Read+Write permissions for all from a USB flash drive to the Desktop, again with the "Ignore Ownership" box unchecked.

  • Instrument i/o assistant always generates async methods for read and write!

    I am trying to generate VI by instrument i/o assistant, but it generated 'Visa write' and 'Visa read' always in asynchronous mode. Even if I unchecked asynch boxes in MAX->Visa Test Panel.
    I need only synchronous mode! And it is very uncovenient after open front panel change  Synchronous I/O Mode from Asynchronous to Synchronous!

    postoroniy_v wrote:
    Asynchronous mode does not work for my hardware.
    and before Instrument i/o assistant  generate diagram I have possibility to check requests and responses to/from my hardware. in this case everything is fine.
    after generate  does not work.
    Is it possible you don't have a sufficient amount of wait time between a VISA Write and VISA read to give the instrument time to receive the communication and turn around a response?  Take a look at Basic Serial Read and Write example VI.  If you are using the I/O assistant and checking things manually, it will work because there is no way you can generate a Read too fast.  It still would take a fraction of second to generate the write and do whatever clicking to generate the read.

    Anyone has an idea to solve it for me ? please , thanks you !
    sorry about my english !

    Hi,
    It is not recommended to update a file withing the project, so you need to store it in the IsolatedStorage.
    Here is a sample to read and write file in IsolatedStorage,
    XDocument xDoc;
    var file = Util.ReadFile("XMLFile.xml");
    if (file != null)
    xDoc = XDocument.Parse(file);
    var bestScore = xDoc.Element("best_score").Value;
    //do calculation
    xDoc.Element("best_score").Value = "200";
    Util.SaveFile("XMLFile.xml", xDoc.ToString());
    For the above code to work, you need to have a file named "XMLFile.xml" in your IsolatedStorage, with data as  "<best_scrore>200</best_scrore>"
    To read and write file:
    public static class Util
    public static void SaveFile(string filename, string data)
    try
    using (var store = System.IO.IsolatedStorage.IsolatedStorageFile.GetUserStoreForApplication())
    using (var stream = new IsolatedStorageFileStream(filename, FileMode.Create, FileAccess.ReadWrite, store))
    StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(stream);
    writer.Write(data);
    writer.Close();
    catch (Exception)
    Debug.WriteLine("Couldn't save the file.");
    public static string ReadFile(string filename)
    try
    String data;
    if (!IsolatedStorageFile.GetUserStoreForApplication().FileExists(filename)) return null;
    using (var store = System.IO.IsolatedStorage.IsolatedStorageFile.GetUserStoreForApplication())
    using (var stream = new IsolatedStorageFileStream(filename, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.ReadWrite, store))
    StreamReader stmReader = new StreamReader(stream);
    data = stmReader.ReadToEnd();
    stmReader.Close();
    return data;
    catch (Exception)
    return null;

  • Fast, small-byte reads and writes.

    I am trying to communicate with a third-party counter using a 1 byte "start" command followed by reading a 4 byte number.  I would like to perform this read/write pair as fast as possible as I will be using count-times on the order of microseconds repeated millions of times.  Our first attempt used USB but the latency in the bus was way too slow at 1ms.  We spent more time waiting than counting. We are currently considering GPIB since the latency should be only 30 microseconds but we're concerned that the overhead from labview will prevent us from reading and writing that fast.  Another idea we had was to use digital I/O channels to create our own parallel port to by-pass the USB bus.  Can anyone comment on a good solution for low-latency small-byte reads and writes from labview? What type of hardware is recommended and can labview support programmatic reads-writes on the order of microseconds? Thanks!

    Theoretically GPIB is capable of very good latencies, as you say on the order of usec.  But in the real world using real PCs running real operating systems and connected to real instruments, the latencies seem to cluster around 2-5msec, in my experience.  The issue isn't LabVIEW so much as all the stuff through which instrumentation interactions must filter, including background processes, screen updates and all the rest of the activities which consume the processor's bandwidth.  Some instruments allow you to buffer and interpret the next command while the current one is underway, then trigger it, which saves latency.  Also keep in mind that your GPIB network will only be as responsive as the least-well-behaved instrument on the bus.

  • Pbs to read and write messages on the same port

    Hello,
    I am novice so I do some tests to send messages with the example : CAN trasmit periodic, and to receive messages with the Channel Monitor, so I want to use this two VIs in my program but there is an error because I can't use the two examples at the same time...
    How can I proceed to use this two example in my program? There is an other solution to read and write in the same time (I use a database .dbc)?

    I'm sorry for my mistake but CAN transmit periodic exist in two version, one for FPGA and other for PC card. I didn't see the second one.

    any example or material.
    i shall be very grateful to u

    Hi,
    It depends on what type of driver you are using, and how that driver communicates with you printer.
    There are lost of different ways LabVIEW can interface with external hardware, either using all libary function node, ActiveX, .NET, etc.  It all depends on what type of driver you are using.
