Lack of power?

Hello everyone,
I've been reading this great forum to find some answers but I'm still confused (so forgive starting a new thread about this)
I have had random crashes mostly when browsing internet but sometimes also when doing something else. Everything works fine and then suddenly computer boots itself without bsod or anything. Usually when this happens internet connection stops working until shutting down computer and doing the powercord off -trick.
I've been thinking maybe this is psu related, but what really confuses me is that I NEVER have any problems playing hours games like Far Cry. Should't that be much more loading (not sure if thats the right word) for psu than for example browsing internet??
I've tested memory with Memtest, no errors.
I have also changed my keyboard from ps/2 to usb w an adapter.
I am not oc:ing.
Really would appreciate any advice before buying a new psu or something.

Thanks mate  , do you think it would be good to run Prime95 longer?

You didn't give the full system error log messages but if you google search and compare yours to others you should be able to find out more information about what's causing them.
I've been trying to and it looks like it could be a bad driver thing as you said. Maybe I should try reinstalling Windows and all drivers.

  • Why do my apps refuse to start when my iPod 4G turns off from lack of power?

When my iPod 4th Generation runs out of power and shuts off, giving me the signal to plug it in to charge, some apps refuse to work. For example, I open up an app, and it immediately closes. Is this because there are some apps from another account on the iDevice?

The account has nothing to do with it.
Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Could a lack of power be the reason that my HD is lagging, clicking, and freezing?

I replaced my HD with a Seagate 500 GB 7200 rpm hard drive. It turned out to perform worse than my previous hard drive. It lags, clicks, and has frozen twice in one day. I emailed Seagate, and they suggested that if the computer isn't getting enough power, then the HD could encounter these problems. I had not thought of this before, but could this be the case?

The other thing to do may be to add more RAM capacity, of reliable and reputable quality specific part number series and matching pairs to assure they are able to work correctly in support of the data paths in the iMac 27"
Depending on the options you chose or what was offered when you bought your iMac, the device can support a higher ceiling and this helps certain applications run better, and also the OS X system likes a lot of RAM.
According to what you say your iMac 27" model is (late 2013) the RAM amount & specs are as follows:
    Built-in Memory
    None
    Maximum Memory
    32 GB
    Memory Slots
    4 - 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
    {according to http://mactracker.ca for Late-2013 iMac 27" model}
•iMac: How to remove or install memory:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423
(see if mid-2013 item compares to your model)
If your unit shipped with more than 16GB it may not need more, at least for awhile. I see this Late-2013 model is not listed in the Support article on how to remove or install memory in iMacs, the model is like Mid-2013 and so it should be user-accessible. If you choose to upgrade the RAM ask Apple about it. A fair deal on upgrade could be found through online resellers with Apple knowledge such as OWC 'other world computing' http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/2012_27/DDR3L
    Hopefully this helps...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Sudden lack of power, So far no luck.

I did the restore, however the iPod just has the "very low battery" screen on, nothing's changed in almost an hour so far. The iPod doesn't seem to show on the iTunes either. However it did go through the restore routine though. Any ideas?
    meagain.

A combination of the two worked. Using the restore helped
to reset the power bar, however it still wasn't charging
for some reason. All I received was the too low message or
just the apple screen. When I read the site for the power
it corrected the charging issue, which was that I was using
the USB in stages, basically I had coming out of my laptop
one USB splitter, which fed the iPod. Aparantly that wasn't
doing it for the iPod, so I just went directly from the
laptop to the iPod and it's charging normally. Thanks for
    the help.
    methankful.

  • My iMac will not load since a power flux

Today there was a power flux as i was using my iMac. I did not try to turn it on for 2-3hrs after the iMac screen went black as it turned off due to lack of power. Later i did try to turn the computer on twice, after unplugging it in. Each time I did turn it on the screen lights up with a white background, grey Apple logo, grey pinwheel turning, then switches to a white screen with nothing and the only response to a left mouse click is the rainbow pinwheel for a time, then nothing but a mouse arrow with the whte screen. The only way I can turn it off is by unplugging it since the power button does not respond.
    Help, Please!

First work thru the steps at > Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
Then if you get no where with that, go to > OS X: About OS X Recovery

  • G5 won't power on but light is stuck on!

    Hi
Today the power in my flat was turned off at the mains after there was a flood in my buildinbg - this happened while my G5 was on. When the power came back on at the mains, I found that the G5 white power light was on at the front, but nothing else happens.
Holding the power button doesn't turn the G5 on or off. It is just stuck with the power light on.
What has happened? Did the mains tripping off blow a fuse or something inside the G5 or is there something I can do to get it to reset? Or is it something worse?
    Thanks for your help.

This is truly strange. I'm having the exact same problem. Last night we had a huge lightening storm here, and I powered down the computer, turned off the battery backup, and pulled the plug on the battery backup from the wall socket. After the storm, I reconnected and have exactly the same problem - power light constantly on, but the computer won't power up.
I was looking to start my own thread, but saw this and I guess it makes more sense to join in here. The only difference in artificedesign66's story and mine is that there was no sudden loss of power, everything was shutdown properly. It seemed to be running fine until that point, and did have an APC battery backup/surge protector in place for what that's worth.
I unplugged and replugged a few times last night. When that didn't work, I disconnected everything from the computer (monitor, all usb and firewire, power) and left it that way overnight. This morning I reconnected only the monitor, keyboard/mouse, and power, but still no go.
I do use a third party keyboard that lacks the power button - I use the one on the face of the cpu. Is there any value in digging the apple keyboard out of the basement to try that?
Thanks all for any help and to artificedesign66 for sharing the thread - hope you don't mind.

  • Bus power external drive for Intel IMac recommended?

Getting ready to replace external hard drive.I have a 2TB now that is formatted in to 2 drives, 1 for TM and 1 for clone. Told that TM needed it's own drive and should get a second for clones and other files. I can make a bootable drive out of the external but not TM drive.
I was looking at some bus-powered drives and not sure how IMac and TM on a bus powered drive would work. Am I able to consider these bus powered HD's - they have power supplies available? Can I depend on my Mac/TM to work well with a bus powered drive with an ac adaptor (because of there small size) or should I get a powered external hard drive for Time Machine and something smaller for my clone? Any ideas?
Looking at OWC Mercury Elite Pro mini, GDrive mini and the CalDigit AV drive. Open to any suggestions and using FW800.
    Thanks.

I have never trusted bus powered usb devices. I use a powered multi port hub. Not only does this supply bus power to an army of usb devices (printer, scanner, camera, hard drives, etc.), the hub can be placed close to me. No need to reach for hidden usb ports, no trying to figure out which way is up on the plug ....

p.s. there are many posts here about usb devices being arbitrarily disconnected from the computer for lack of power.

  • USB 2.0 power low?

I just upgraded from a powerbook G4 to a MacBook Pro. My blackberry would charge from empty to full in about an hour on the G4, and takes several hours on the MacBook Pro. Either port is the same long time.
Are the new machines providing less power to the USB port?

    Ricktoronto wrote:
SInce people complained constantly about the lack of power in the G4 Powerbook ( not enough to power most external USB drives was typical) it is not likely the MacBook Pro has less ( in part since it powers USB drives quite well).
I would say it depends on which port your using. I seem to have lots of power issues with the left USB (next to MagSafe port) and non with the right one. A Apple genus seem to think it's something about one being on the main logic board and other on a daughter card. However, you'd think Apple's engineer would of made them both the same? :s

  • Mega 651 power Supply

Hi ,,, was just wondering if its possible to fit a more pwerful power supply in the Mega PC 651 ...
I recently fitted a MSI GeForceFX 5900XT graphics card and as most of u will know this card requires a fair ammount of power and while benchmarking my PC using 3d mark 2003 i got a warning saying the cards performance has been restricted due to a lack of power, please check connection and that power supply is good enough etc...
well the mega PC 651 has only a 200 watt power supply so i assuming this is the problem... mind u the card has been ok since and i have done numerous benchmarks ... :D
i dont want to damage my hardware so is it possible to get a better PSU and where from ? or do i need not worry ?
    thnx

Good PSU include Antec and Enermax but I do not know if they will fit.
Try the card first, if it does not work or give u low performance then u may consider buying a new PSU, otherwise leave it.

can you operate the mac book pro 15 inch with out the battery?  I read somewhere in a post that it lowers the power to about 1 gig with out the battery.  I asked apple and they said it is not true because you can use the comp with the power adapter and battery together or either by itself and it will not effect the 2.16 gig.  Thank you.

If you remove the battery the CPU power will be cut by 50% (whatever they told you) so that there's no lack of power or overheating issues. It's best to always keep the battery in.

  • Lack of b

I bought a MuVo TX just after xmas and my only complaint is the utter . I have tried changing my eq settings from rock to normal and even done the custom eq and still am not getting the sound quality I expected. My volume is also a bit low... I have to turn it up to at least 20-25 to even hear anything, 40 (all the way up) is loud but not even uncomfortable. I use my player in the gym and I can hear background noise through the music (and I use ear buds).
Is there any way for me to reset the eq or do I possibly have a defected player. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I also use Sony EX7s and compared to my older CD players the bass does seem a bit weak on the Zen Touch. I can still hear deep bass but its just not very powerful. I think the problem with the zen touch is that it doesn't have a very powerful heaphone output. The advantage is that you get longer battery life, but the disadvantage is weak sound. You can use the EQ to a certain extent but it will easily distort if bass is enhanced too much, simply due to the lack of power. Personally I currently use the settings 6,-5,-4,-3 which effecti'vely increases the bass whilst keeping the sound as close as possible to the flat EQ. Obviously this is suited to my musical tastes, but it sounds good.
The only way to get better bass is to get a portable amp or for creative to implement a better EQ via a firmware update, i.e. more frequency bands, wider frequency range and better distortion handling. As you mentioned, the custom EQ seems to change the sound too much instead of enhancing it, for example the 2khz band sounds awful if put higher than 0 dB, this is not right! Also the presets arn't very good either, like the 'disco' preset which distorts like crazy.
Try using settings similiar to mine and see how it sounds, but I do hope creative fix the EQ because it really can do with alot of improvement.

  • Can i use the same power cord to charge my iPhone and my iPad.

I have an iPhone 5 and an iPad Air. The connection pins are the same, the ony difference is the size of the plug square.
    thanks,
    marcia

The Cables are identical no difference.
The Plugs are of different power outputs.
You can use the larger iPad charger to charge both the iPhone and the iPad.
And while you can use the smaller iPhone charger to charge the iPad it will take longer to charge due to the lack of power, and the iPad will need to be in sleep mode for it to actually charge.

  • [Poll] Power Management Solution?

    Hi
What Screensaver / Power Management applications do you use on your laptops?
I'm very curious because I'm not totally satisfied with my choices: XScreenSaver + Gnome Power Manager.
The big problem is that gpm doesn't blank screen when xscreensaver is started so I need to use xscreensaver power management too (but I can't use only xscreensaver because it lacks many power management features I need)...

    To automatically control CPU speed:
    cpufrequtils http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cpufrequtils
    To enable hibernate:
    pm-utils http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pm-utils
I use GNOME. I disabled the screensaver but have the screen turn off after 30 minutes of no use.
I had a lot of fun setting up cpufrequtils by following the wiki. I was disappointed when I went to set up hibernate via pm-utils, because after installing the package and testing it, it just worked. Where is the Linux I used to know??

  • Hiper power type r spu are they any good

    Dear list,
after previous posts and my psu, booting problems, am things etc. I was having a few shut down problems on my k7n board and though it could be down to lack of power. Mu current psu doesnt have dual rails the enermax
    http://www.enermax.com.tw/products_page.php?Tid=1&gon=249&Gid=18&Gid2=22 the 465w one.
so I was wondering is that the problem, sometimes it wont shut down and others it will, It will occaisionally grind to a half, for no reason, I think its down to the power. I then stumble on this
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/productinfo.asp?WebProductID=230383
now I know I could spend double the money and get and enermax or antec one but I cant seem to find a hiperpower website and I have seen a few posts that indicate the tyoe r's are pretty good and very underated.
anyone got a link to a review at all please or using one on a heavily laden computer.
    cheers

    Dear frederick,
hi there, my temps on idle are cpu about 40-45c and under load they have gone up to 55. The case temp stays around 30-35 in heat and 20-25 when a cooler day.
wonkanoby, hi I got the understanding the 24 pin is made up of the last 4 with are detatchable and you can connect them to the 4 pin connection or get rid so its a 20pin. I was only looking at the dual rail thing and more power without having to spend £120.
dave r and wonkanoby, then maybe if thats the case then its something else, I though on adding at all up with the psu adder up thing I was on the limits of my psu. As I do photoshopping, I can have th the os raid running, all ram the psu under load, the swap raid running and the mirror drive while I'm working as well as printing, so it could be I have a dip in power and dual rail is what I might need.
    what you peeps rekon.
    cheers
