Lagging while gaming

Not sure what forum for this spands a few. I play Everquest (online game) and have a 2 year old computer w/ Vistas. I slighlty upgraded the video card and added memory. I am running about 3-4 gig I think (I am at wotk). That was upgraded from a computer that was about 1/2 as good. Long story short..when I game, I lag badly (choppy movement) and loads kinda slow with sometimes have graphic issues (naked characters lol). I can still play but it is annoying. Especially because I have every graphic option in the game turned down or off (really sucks for my visual experience sucks now but do it so I can play). I really thought when I upgraded to this computer that I would be able to play a lot easier than other older computer but NO. It is not much better. I was wondering if the best buy thing where they "tune up" your computer would help? I just don't want to spend 100 bucks and nothing change! I have 100 mps internet soi don't think that is it, lots of memory is still available and actually a p[retty clean system. I doubt anybody can say yes or no but I'd rather have some idea if any type of tuning they do may help or would it just be for general computer maintenance. Heck I can even use virus protection when I play for it really slows the entire systaem down. It just doesn't seem right. ideas?

what graphic card did you upgrade to? did you accidentally upgrade to a lower end?
did you make sure your powersupply is compatible with ur graphics card? how do u have 100mbps internet? i think you're talking about ethernet connection. from router to network is 100mbps, but ur Internet service provider still limit you at around 10 mbps if u have comcast and 750kbps if u're using dsl. however this won't be an issue if you're problem is graphics issue. whats wrong with "slow mo" porn? (naked characters)

Buying new HDTV but don't want lag while gaming

Hi all.
So I'm getting a new HDTV soon, and I want to connect my ps3 and xbox 360 to it. I'm getting the LG 47LH90 (47" 1080p 240 Hz) and I'm getting the Monster Cable HDMI 114013-00
(THX 1000) for my ps3 to play movies and such. Thing is, I also want to try Halo 3 online on the TV (I've heard playing Halo on bigger TV's is bad for your aim but I at least want to try).
So my question is will this HDMI cable I'm getting give me any screen lag while trying to play Halo? (Yes, I have an elite so the 360 has an HDMI port) I've heard people say that VGA cables are also good but if this HDMI cable I have works I want to know if I'll be able to use that so I don't have to buy another cable for nothing. If you are gonna use an HDTV, you will have to accept lag. Your best bet is to go with a 60hz LCD or plasma, which you can easily still get. None of that 120hz nonsense. But, what you can do is get any ole HDTV and use the Microsoft VGA cable instead of the HDMI. That will do a lot to reduce your lag to the minimal amount because HDTVs don't use image processing on VGA signals and the newer TVs actually support full 1080p over VGA. Your milage will vary though and you should check the manual of any TV you are considering in order to see what resolutions it supports over VGA so you don't make a blind-buy of the wrong thing.

Experiencing lag while gaming online with WRT310N

I have recently setup my desktop computer wirelessly with the WUSB600N adapter and the WRT310N router. My signal is great and I'm connected at 270 Mbps most of the time. I run Windows XP and have the Windows firewall disabled. I tried to play Guild Wars online last night and ran into problems. Every 15-30 seconds, the game would lag very badly for about 2-3 seconds. On two different occasions, it disconnected from the game entirely. I'm hoping there are simply some settings I can change to fix this. Any ideas?

Problem solved. Thought I'd post my solution in case anyone else runs into the same problem. After extensive searching on this site and others, I developed a list of things to try. The first one I tried was port forwarding but that didn't help. The second thing I tried was to turn off the Windows WCZ wireless controller. I'm now using the Linksys software to connect and the lag issues have been eliminated. You might wonder why I wasn't using their software to begin with. I had lost wireless connection entirely a couple weeks ago and had to call support. They walked me through changing some settings on my router and setting up the WCZ to control my wireless to get me hooked back up. Apparently the fix was accomplished by changing the router settings alone and had nothing to do with switching to the WCZ. Hope this helps someone.

Lag while gaming

My laptop recently started lagging mid-game.
In order to help you understand my problem have attached a monitoring screenshot of MSI-AfterBurner
At the point where my GPU1 usage becomes 100% my games starts lagging terribly and system temperatures seems to drop back to normal at that point.
(The game is giving me a great 60+fps until that point) Please help me find the solution!!

Lag spikes while gaming, probably due to wireless network

While gaming online, I get lag spikes, or as I like to call them, due to the nature of what happens, warping, every so often. By warping I mean I do something, my screen shows it, but the action never got sent across the server. So if I were to move right during a warping event, it'd show me that I moved right but then in a second I'm back where I was. (I hope that makes sense)
As for what I've done to try to rectify this problem:
Reset the router
Open up all necessary ports (actually I just enabled DMZ, which would open all ports)
I would have updated the drivers for my wireless adapter, but this problem also occurs when I'm gaming online on a console connected to the wireless network so I highly doubt the drivers would be the problem.
As for my router's model number, it's WRT54G.
Now, for the question I have. Would switching to a WIRED network fix this problem? (despite that pinging from a wireless connection then pinging from a wired connection was consistent) If so, why? (the why would be to convince my dad, as he believes that due to the consistency in the pinging attempts (only 3-4 packets lost out of 100 when pinging to Google) the problem couldn't be due to the wireless network)

You should try to upgrade your router's firmware, reset and then re-configure your router...
Download the router's firmware from here
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful" After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Adjust the Wireless Settings after re-configuring the router -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab
-Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
- Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...See if you face the same problem...

Lag while playing online.

I just got the WRT54AG router. Now I get a lag while playing xbox live games (360), as well as a lag when playing WoW on my pc. I logged into the router and clicked on the app. and gaming tab, but I do not understand where to type what. Or how to set up adresses on the pc and 360, and whatever else. Can anyone bear with a dummy?

ensure that the router firmware is v1.79 .. if not go to www.linksys.com/download and download the firmware for the router ... upgrade the firmware through the router's web interface ..
change the MTU settings on the router to 1365 ..

I have same Problem. I tried all options - Reset All Settings, Erase Content & reset all settings, Upgrated to IOS8.1, Restore using iTune. But problem persists.
When I turn Cellular Data or Wifi ON, then there is a lag while opening the Apps. But If I turn Data/Wifi off, phone becomes super fast. I have checked with my friends. They are not facing this issue. Not sure if Apple know this.

How to adjust video while gaming

I have an MSI FX5900SP 256mb and I want to know if there is a utility that I can download that I can hit hot keys to adjust the gamma, contrast and brightness while gaming. My buddy has an ATI 5950 from Asus and asus has a utility to adjust while gaming and its awesome. I think like ctrl+G for gamma and it does it while playing. I have been looking and can't find any utilities that will allow me to to adjust the features while playing on this MSI card.

I do not know of an nVidia utiltity that would allow you to do that, but you can still adjust gama and resolution in game with the game's options.

well i'd seriosly say point a hot hair drier at the speakers as water has entered the phone most commonly via the home button but avoid getting it too hot let it cool every 3 minutes after constant drying. Don't worry I have honestly dont this with my iPhone 4 GSM 16GB. For future reference avoid letting it get wet.

Keyboard ghosting on my laptop while gaming.

So, I'm having a weird issue with my laptop. We all know that laptops have volume adjust buttons right? In my case, I have fn+F8 and fn+F9. Now here's the issue, whenever I adjust my volume while gaming by pressing those 2 keys, a third keypress is also registered, in my case it's "c" key. This is extremely annoying becuase in games, all keys have their own command and when that keypress is registered without me wanting it is really annoying. (effected games as far as I tested are, CS:GO and Left 4 Dead 2). This does not happen outside games as far as I tested, and it does not matter if I have HP hotkey support software installed or not. So, is anyone having a similar problem? Any solutions? (other than not asigning that key any commands in games)

Incredible lag while moving a group of layers

Since PS CS6 I've noticed this idiotic bug (which is also present in PS CC)... I have this incredible lag while I move a group of layers... the lag isn't present if I select and move all the layers in the group at once which should basically be the same thing.
I see that this happens if the group I want to move is located under another group with some layer styles applied like Drop Shadow.
Here's a link to a test file that I've made.
How to reproduce the lag:
- scale the canvas at 100%;
- try to move the Red layer group and you will see the lag I'm talking about;
- now select and move the layer inside the Red group... lag is gone!
- now move the Fixed Group under the Red Group;
- move again the Red group in the Layers Panel and you'll see that the lag is gone once again.
Please let me know if any of you can reproduce the experience I've described above using my test file.

Satellite X200-219 overheats while gaming and shuts down

Ok I originally lived in the UK, where I bought a Toshiba X200-219.
Since then I moved to the States, and have the laptop plugged into a surge protected extension cord, attached to plug converter.
Once the warranty expired on the laptop, I upgraded to 4GB of RAM, and switched out both hard disks to Seagate 320GB 7200rpm drives.
Now ever since I moved to the States, the laptop has been overheating, more and more frequently even *before* I upgraded the components; this has usually been happening whilst gaming. I have been regularly blowing out any dust that might have settled inside the vents with compressed air
But this time it's different. I was playing Red Alert 3, and it did it 3 times. When the laptop over heats, I have to remove the power cord and then reinsert it before switching it on. Except the final time I tried that, the laptop didn't start. There are absolutely no signs of life from the thing, even after cooling down for the past 2 hours. There aren't even any lights acknowledging that the power cord is plugged in. Oh and I've replaced the fuse so it can't be that (the battery is in the back in this instance)
In the UK the laptop ran at a normal temperature. Over here it was running hot to touch, and the fan was screaming but it was manageable.
It ran even hotter on the odd game I was playing but not whilst en/decoding movies.
Please don't let this become one of *those* threads where everything fizzles out and I don't get an answer. Any ideas please?

Overheating is a serious issue because a high temperature can damage the internal parts.
The internal temperature increases to a higher level because all devices like CPU and GPU are running with high performance while gaming.
In such case the cooling module fans should rotate faster to ensure that the warm air would be blow away
In many cases the cooling modules cannot work properly because the dust and debris clog up the cooling grilles or there is not enough thermal grease between the cooling module and CPU or GPU.
Furthermore its not recommended using NON-Toshiba graphic drivers because such non Toshiba graphic drivers are not designed for the notebook usage and can lead to such overheating issues.
You should also ensure that there is enough free space around the notebook. This is important for properly fresh air circulation.
But of course an faulty cooling module could be also responsible for such overheating issues and in such case ONLY the ASP would be able to help you.

Qosmio X870 overheats while gaming

Hello,
i have qosmio that is running about 95-100 celzius GPU and 85-90 CPU temperatures while gaming from day 1.
Then i got shut downs due to overheating about 9 months later.
I go to service, and they clean it and repaste it , it didnt shut down anymore but high temperatures stayed.
20 days later GPU died, they replaced it, then 10 months later GPU died again, i heard burning inside the laptop.
They put new one again, but after that when i game for 2 hours, screen shuts down at least once, somethimes twice in that time.
I took laptop to service for fourth time, few days later they are saying that they didn't still diagnosed the malfunction.
But my biggest concern is that temperatures are high all that time, i read on A.s.u.s forum that guy with that kind of temperatures got replace immediatly, and the new notebook got 20 degrees lower temp.
Laptop is about 20 months old, and my question is:
do i ever have right for replacement or they will just patch it up every few months until warranty expires :( because they are planing to repair it again.
I need it for video editing also, thats why i bought it, and now for the 4th time my bussines is on hold for a week or two.
Sorry for long post, im hoping for some answer or mail where i can request replacement, thank you.

As far as I know Toshiba authorized service partner can just repair the notebook and you should ensure that the notebook will be fixed to your fullest satisfaction.

From my experience if the notebook does not shut down automatically, the temperature level isnt too high. Usually in case of overheating, the notebook should power off automatically to protect the internal parts from damage.
