Large OST files on Outlook 2010

Hi All,
We seem to have an issue were user's .ost files keep growing into GB in size however the mailboxes are all restricted to a 200mb limit can you please advise thanks

Hii,
MS Outlook File grows as you create
and receive items. Sometimes user of MS outlook encounter an error that OST file exceeded its default maximum file size while sending and receiving emails. Deleting some data item from OST file might not decrease the file size in proportion to the data that
you deleted.
To reduce the size of ost file you can either
use Synchronization Filter method or you can compact the
size of ost file on advanced tab settings of exchange account. Synchronization filter Method restricts particular data items to be synchronized from exchange mailbox to ost thereby reducing the size of ost file at some extent.
Steps to be followed for Synchronization filter
method,
Right click on folder and click properties
Click synchronization tab
and then click Filter
Now provide the appropriate criteria for filtering
that you want according to what data items should arrive in folder.
Click Ok and open outlook now

  • 3138 SQL error opening sqlite db file from Outlook 2010 as attachment

Has anyone of you tried sending the sqlite db file thru e-mail and then open the file from Outlook 2010?
I have an air app that can be opened by doubleclicking the sqlite database file (invoke event). The file is sent via e-mail from the app itself, so another user can run the app directly from their e-mail client once he receives the db. Now everything works fine unless you use Outlook 2010 - when I open it I get an sql error 3138 - do you know what can be the problem? Everything is fine when I'm using different e-mail client (the same e-mail account, just other client) like Outlook 2003 or Thunderbird or Opera. I'm guessing Outlook 2010 is using some kind of protection to attachments that is making the file not understandable by the app, but Microsoft seems to ignore my e-mails sent to them with the same question. The db file is not encrypted if that changes anything and saving the file from outlook to desktop and then running does not help. When I do the same using Outlook 2003 everything works as it should, but unfortunatelly my customer upgraded to 2010 :/ Any ideas would be much appreciated.

This looks like a new behavior of Outlook 2010 and isn't specific to PDFs. You will need to "save as" the document. There is a thread at Microsoft forums about this with some possible workarounds:

  • I cannot open archieved pst file in outlook 2010, can someone help me

Сan some one help me to open my pst file which I had cut copied while moving on to new Laptop, now I cannot open this file in outlook 2010. I tried repairing the file using scanpst and other demo version from kernel and other software... most of them say
"not a valid pst file" Please help me as the date in this pst is important.

Your PST file might have got corrupt or damaged with 'Cut Copied' , that's why you are not able to access it on your new Laptop. Could you let me know how did you export your PST file from your old laptop/system?
A valid way to Export PST file is by using Import & Export option in Outlook (Open Outlook -> File Tab -> Click Options -> Click Advanced -> Import & Export) . Once you export the PST file on your old computer, copy that PST file into
any external storage drive(or by any other medium) and transfer it to your new laptop. Now open Outlook and Create a new profile ( Click the Show Profiles button -> Click
Add to create a new profile -> Enter a name for your profile -> Enter Name, Email id & Password -> Click  'Manually configure server settings' box to get into More Settings and
customize the Outgoing server settings.) Once you are done with this, Import that PST into Outlook using Import & Export wizard.

    Hello ,
    The default maximum file size for SharePoint Lib is 50 MB. You can change the maximum file upload size in SharePoint 2010 .However;
a large volume of very large files can affect farm performance.
Ref to change maximum file upload size
    http://aryannava.com/2011/05/30/how-to-change-the-maximum-file-upload-size-in-sharepoint-2010/
I would suggest you that instead of uploading large files to SharePoint, you can Upload those files to File server or
media steaming server and Share those links to SharePoint server.
You can embed those links to SharePoint Silver Media player in .mp4 or .wmv formats.

  • How do you preview .dxf files in Outlook 2010?

Is there something I can install that will allow me to preview .dxf files in my preview plane for Outlook 2010?

    Hi,
Attachment previewers that come with the Microsoft Office system only allow you to preview the following files in Outlook:
Outlook/Word/PowerPoint/Excel/Visio documations, Images and text files
Third-party software vendors may provide their own previewers that support additional attachment file types.
So for your case (to preview .dxf file in Outlook), please try to check with the vendor of the product that your using and see if they have an existing previewer for their product.

  • How can I import only the Sent Items file from Outlook 2010 into TB?

I have saved Sent Items as a distinct .pst file. Is there a method for importing it into TB? The Sent Items in Outlook were not included when I imported mail from the original Outlook.pst file.

well I have read the question and the answer and the response and seriously I have no idea what your talking about TwoLeftFeet.
    these instructions are fairly clear
    3. Copy the outlook.pst file to that PC and configure Outlook to use it. (may need to be in the default location)
    4. Compact the .pst file using Outlooks File -> Data File Management commands to permanently get rid of any deleted messages. Don't confuse this with compressing or zipping a file.
    5. Import the messages using Tools -> Import -> Mail. You can use Tools -> Import to also import the settings and address books.
Repeat steps 3-5 as necessary for any other .pst files.
You obviously do not need steps 1 and 2... as you say your files are on the same computer.
And you files are on the same computer so steps 6 - 9 would not apply.

  • Cannot open .wav files from Outlook 2010 (beta)

This file cannot be previewed because of an error with the following previewer:
windows media player rich preview handler.....

    Hi,
First, try to start Outlook in safe mode to see if it works fine.
If it works fine in safe mode, disable the add-ins you have in  File > Options > Add-ins.
Second, try to clear out the Outlook Temporary items.
    1. Locate the Outlook Temporary Items folder by opening the Registry and
    locating
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security\OutlookSecureTempFolder
    2. Navigate to the value of this Key. It should be something like:
    %USERPROFILE%\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\
    3. Quit Outlook
    4. Delete the contents of the folder
    5. Launch Outlook
    Hope it helps.

  • Cannot Add PST File to Outlook 2010. An Unknown error occurred, error code 0x80070002

Computer is running Windows 7 64 Enterprise with Office 2010.
There was a PST file that was connected to the computer until we had a network outage yesterday. I deleted the entry for the PST file and went to add the PST file back and received the following message when I clicked the "add file" button.
An Unknown error occurred, error code 0x80070002
I have ran the Office repair, and recreated the users profile on the computer.
The users PST file connects to other computers without an issue. I would like to have to avoid having the wipe the computer and do a clean install.
Please let me know if you need more details.

The users PST file connects to other computers without an issue.
Are you saying the same PST can be used on other computers without an issue? At what exact point do you get this error? In which dialog and which exact button click?
Please try to create a new profile and let it build a new pst file. Later, you can redirect it to your existing PST file and see if it works.

and hence in every user's application data / microsoft / outlook folder one file was created with profile name of outlook account extension of file is .nk2. This is of offline address book.
Now we have migrated few users to online hybrid exchange. Accounts have been migrated to Exchange from pop3.
Now when we are typing new mail and typing someone's email ID it is not appearing. we have to type first time. previously it was happening. so please guide how can we make this nk2 file with exchange in individually.

  • Outlook OST file become large

    Hi,
My mailbox about 3GB, but the OST file size seems 38GB.
After recreate new OST, it grow very fast back to very huge file size.
    Any idea of this?

    Hii,
MS Outlook File grows as you create and receive items. Sometimes user of MS outlook encounter an error that OST file exceeded its default maximum file size while sending
and receiving emails. Deleting some data item from OST file might not decrease the file size in proportion to the data that you deleted.
To reduce the size of ost file you can either use Synchronization Filter method or you can
compact the size of ost file on advanced tab settings of exchange account. Synchronization filter Method restricts particular data items to be synchronized from exchange mailbox to ost thereby reducing the size of ost file at some extent.
Steps to be followed for Synchronization filter method,
Right click on folder and click
    properties
Click synchronization tab and then click
    Filter
Now provide the appropriate criteria for filtering that you want according to what data items should arrive in folder.
Click Ok and open outlook now
