Launching a VI Dynamically
I'm attempting to launch a VI dynamically using VI server. The VI works fine when used within the LabVIEW developement environment (LV2010sp1) but throws an error 7 when built as an executable.
I've included the VI to be launched within the "Always Include" section of the build spec and believe I've adjusted my paths correctly to account for the differences between a VI and an EXE. What am I don't wrong here?

Hi,
I think you haven't added the looper vi into the support directory. Check the image below.
I think this must solve your problem.

Getting a server error when launching VI's dynamically from a llb
I have made a simple VI launcher which opens a reference to a VI and opens the Front Panel through a property node and run the VI by using a invoke node in order to be able to distribute the launcher without having any sub VI's included. When running the Launcher as a VI calling a subVI in a LLB file there are no problems. But when compiling the launcher to an executable file and then call the same VI in the LLB I get an error 1003 "error at invoke node in VI" The VI is not executable. The VI is missing a lot of standard sub VI's which is located under the \Vi.lib\Utility\.
However I can save the LLB with options and include the missing VI's and make it executable but the LLB becomes huge. Somehow the reference to the standard library is missing when using the executable launcher. I have also tried to set windows path to the standard library but without success.
Is there any workaround for this problem?
Thanks in advance
Regards
PeterA VI maintains a list of the subVIs it uses in relation to where it's located. If it doesn't find a VI where it's supposed to be, it starts looking elsewhere. This can be set in the EXE's INI file. Find the appropiate line in the LabVIEW.INI file (should be something like "viSearchPath=":\*;:\;:\*;:\*;:\*;") and copy it into the EXE's INI. If you don't have it, add another path in the options menu and it should appear.
I still don't understand something - if A VI was compiled, it remembers its subVIs locations - if you don't move it, it should work fine. Are you including the dynamically called VI in the build? If you are, it will be moved into the EXE (which is built like an LLB) and if it's calling additional VIs dynamically, will lose their place. If you're using it on the same computer, you can avoid including it, but to get its relative path correctly, you will have to do an additional strip path if you are using the calling VIs path as the source. You can do this by placing a property node and selecting the Application>>Kind property, which will tell if you're in the development system or the RTE.
If this didn't help, can you post a small example of this?

Exe launcher, classpath and dynamic jar loading
hi,
i made an exe launcher for my java app which works fine. but i need i way to specify the classpath for the application and i don't know how to do it in this case.
it would, actually, be enough to make the app load the libraries it needs dynamically - i can make a properties file with paths to required libraries and load them upon startup. however, i don't know how do the dynamic library loading.
anny help on specifying the classpath through an exe launcher and/or on dynamic jar library loading?
thanxI'm gonna try something I've never tried before... include a link when I say search the forums/net

SpeedGrade crashes on launch, standalone and dynamic link, any ideas?
I've tried reinstalling and using the cleaner app. I've deleted preferences. I don't know what else to try. I used to work fine.

Are bundles that are set to dynamic admins dangerous?
Good day everyone.
Question.
Is launching executables as dynamic admins a risk? Does this open the workstation to external threats by the user or other applications?
ThanksNo, This only impacts the executable itself.
The user is not granted any other rights out side of that app, even
while it is running.

Xcontrol does not work in built application
I can't seem to get my custom xcontrol to work in the final built application. It works perfectly fine when the top-level .vi is started from the development environment. But all I get is the broken control image when I run the built application. Is there something I'm missing in the build definition?
I tried puting the thermometer xcontrol example into a built application and everything works fine. The build definition only included the top-level file, so I don't think it's a problem with support/dynamic files...
By the way, is there some trick to maintaining these xcontrols? I love the concept, but man they are a pain in the butt to work with. One wrong move in the project manager and they're messed up for life. I finally learned to back everything up on a regular basis so I wouldn't lose everything if it one decided to go psycho on me.
TIA,
GregI've got it working now, but I'm going about it in a round-about way. My application has (had) a splash-screen/launcher vi that dynamically loads and launches the actual top-level user-interface vi. The top-level vi was included in the build definition as a dynamic file. This is the ONLY dynamic call in the entire application. All other vi are called the normal way on the wiring diagram. I could never get the xcontrol to work this way. I even tried including ALL of the relevant files as dynamic/support file and could never get it to work. In one experiment, I placed an xcontrol on the top-level vi (the top-level vi doesn't have any of the xcontrols, only a couple dialog-box sub-vis that it calls). Again, everything worked fine from the development environment. But, when compiled, the top-level vi would fail to start completely. I never bothered to check what the execution state of the top-level vi was before I called it, but I assume it was "bad" so the dynamic call would fail.
I got it working by eliminating the dynamic call and calling the top-level vi as a normal sub-vi from the wiring diagram. BUT, it still had problems and would always ask me to find a couple files from the 'XControlSupport.lvlib', specifically 'Action.ctl' and 'Container State.ctl'. The xcontrol also uses the standard 'eventkey.ctl' from the 'event_ctls.llb' and it would ask me to find this file every time as well. I tried including the libraries in the project and including these libraries in the build as dynamic/support files, but still no good. To fix the problem, I copied these files into my project folder, specifically included them in my project, and then replaced all of the controls wherever they appeared with the corresponding controls included within the project.

Any Easy Way to pass initial parameters to a VI created with New VI?
In LabVIEW 2010 I can use OpenG's New VI function to create and launch a VI that is built from a template.
Is there any easy way to pass initial parameters from the VI that creates the New VI to the New VI that will be available as soon as the New VI starts?Check out the Control Value Set invoke node. I personally don't like this node, and tst has got a great suggestion to promote cleaner, less fragile syntax for launching VI's dynamically that require input parameters.

is this like a dual boot... and you boot the intel mac as a"rosetta volume" ? or is it software you apply to each app individually? so some could run in rosetta mode and some not. i don't undertand.
thx.Rosetta runs as a part of the OS. If you try and launch an app the OS detects that applications type, if Native Intel is just runs it, if its PPC, or relies on PPC components then the OS launches rosetta to dynamically translate the App on the fly in the background.
As I understand it-
Rosetta runs with the application in the same memory space, when the app issues an instruction (which will be Power PC code) Rosetta translates it into Intel code and caches it incase its needed again, thus building up pre-Translated code so that it speeds things up a bit the next time the same PPC command is issued.
All this happens transparently in the back ground with the OS taking care of it for you so that you just launch PPC apps and the OS takes care of the details of running them for you.
They will run a bit slower because the system has to translate (or find already run and translated instructions in the cache) Also Rosetta run apps need more memory to run as it needs to cache instructions in RAM.
Also some programs will not run in Rosetta.

Pop-up in event structure halts execution
If I place a pop-up subVI in an event case of an event structure and this pop-up subVI contains a while loop and a stop button that would stop this while loop (thereby closing the subVI), will other events declared in the event structure be handled only after the user clicked the stop button of the subVI? If yes, is there a way for other events to be handled while the pop-up subVI is still running?
Solved!
Go to Solution.Yes, it will stop everything in you rmain VI until the popup VI returns. The events will still be buffered, but they won't be handled by the event structure, until your pop up is closed (assuming your pop up is non-modal). If it's modal, the user won't be able to click anything at all, except controls on the pop up itself.
If you still want the user to be able to interact with your front panel while the pop up is showing, and have the FP respond, you will want to launch the popup dynamically in its own parallel process. If you are using LV 2012 you can use the start asynchronous call node. If you are using an earlier version of LabVIEW, you will have to use the "Run" method with an invoke node.

How to start more than one program automatically? [RT]
Normally you can build an application and let it start automatically on the PXI system. You have to put the file into c:\ni-rt\startup\
But how to start more than one application in a pre-defined sequence? Depending on the situation there are several programs to be started that run simultaneously.
I searched for help in the Development Library and the Forums but I didn't find an answer.
Thank you very much for your helpin advance! Have a nice day!
ChristophHi Christoph,
You can use VI Server on the real-time target to launch other VIs dynamically. Your startup executable could be a simple application that uses VI Server to start other VIs that run in parallel in a pre-defined sequence.
Here's an example that does something similiar.
Note that when you build the VI into an application, you must include all the VIs that are called by VI Server as dynamic VIs in the application builder.

Multiservers - multiclients - multidatabases
I am using rmi presently with one server, multiple clients and one database. I would like to use multiple servers each one pointing to different databases and multiple clients associated with each server. Can I do this by using a dynamic naming convention that the server and client have access to and only one rmiregistry? I am thinking of some how dynamically giving the ability to send a user defined server name to bind to the rmiregistry at the time the server is being launched. This dynamic name would be made available to clients. I so far have had problems after I get three servers up and running. The third server is not recognised and all clients appear to default the the second server not even the first. Unfortunatly I am not afforded the time to rewrite this code to do some sort of pooling. Any suggestions, code examples or directions??? Thank you in advance for any help in this matter.
Well let me explain this differently to see if I do have a bug. Presently this is a working system. We are just trying to expand the system. I have a class representing the view that flows through an interface to another class that we call a client. This client has a stub associated with the class. We also have an interface on the server side that flows through to the server class. This server class has a stub associated with the class. We use callbacks. Interfaces extend remote. We allow the user to send in the port and ip if values are not found we default to 1099 and localhost.
****client class NtrkConfigClient
****interface ConfigBusRules
public class NtrkConfigClient
extends UnicastRemoteObject
implements ConfigBusRules
/** Server for remote connection. */
NtrkConfigServer mServer = null;
// name of remote server object bound to rmi registry
String configServerObjectName = "//" + ip + ":" + port + "/configServer";
// lookup NtrkConfigServerImpl remote object
// in rmiregistry (mytemp)
mServer = (NtrkConfigServer)Naming.lookup( configServerObjectName );
****server class NtrkConfigServerImpl
****interface NtrkConfigServer
public class NtrkConfigServerImpl
extends UnicastRemoteObject
implements NtrkConfigServer
NtrkConfigServerImpl configServer =
new NtrkConfigServerImpl( user, password, dbServer, dbName, dbDriver );
// String to bind NtrkConfigServerImpl object to the
// rmiregistry
String configServerObjectName = "//" + ntrkServer + ":" + ntrkPort + "/configServer";
Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
// Try to start server assuming the rmiregistry is
//running.
try
// bind NtrkConfigServerImpl object to the
//rmiregistry
Naming.rebind( configServerObjectName, configServer );
System.out.println( "The Config server is " +
"up and running." );
catch( ConnectException ce )
This works fine for one server class, one database, multiple clients and one rmiregistry. We still want to only use one rmiregistry. We have a requirement for one server class per database. So we want to run multiple client classes against multiple server classes. What we presume we have to do is dynamically change the configServerObjectName before we bind to the registry and somehow have the client aware of what nammings are bound to the registry. If I have given enough explanation, do you see an error here or do you have other suggestions? Again thank you for your help. -
How to kill TCP-IP Listen or Open Connection while they are waiting to connect?
We have an application that acts as a control panel for a customer's device.
It connects to the device using TCP-IP.
It can be configured to connect as a server (listener) or as a client.
The user of this applicaiton must have the ability to disconnect from the device and point and connect to a different device at a different IP and port.
When the user tries to connect to a device but can not (the device is not ready or the IP address is wrong) he wants to abort the connection, change the settings then restart the attempt to connect.
How do I stop the TCP-IP Listen or TCP-IP Open Connection VIs? We typically use a timeout of a couple seconds and this is a long delay for a respond to the operator when he wants to abort the connection attempt.Thanks for the quick response.
I was hoping there was a more elegant Labview solution that may work for both the wait on listen and the connect VI.
I tried to close the wait on listener by closing the ref from the create listener.
That works. See attached picture. I use a queue to send the abort message. The wait on listen state will be blocked until either a connection is made or an abort message is sent via the queue. If a message is sent, the dequeue vi unblocks and causes the listener reference to close which will kill the wait on listen VI. If a TCP-IP connection is made it will close the queue reference which will kill the dequeue vi.
I guess for the TCP-IP connect VI I can:
A. Use a couple second time out that is tolerable to the operator if then abort the connection attempt. (like you suggested)
or
B. Create a VI with the TCP-IP Open Connection VI in it. I can launch that VI dynamically and wait until done (invoke node Run VI with Wait Until Done set to true). If a connection is made it will finish and I will read the outputs using an invoke node (Ctrl Val.Get). If it needs to be aborted, I will abort the VI using an invoke node (VI Abort).

How to configure Collaboration (demo) role.
Hello,
I want to remove "Room Quick Launch" iView that is diplayed under Detail navigation iView in Collaboration(demo) role, but I don't know how to do this? Could you please help me and tell where and how can I configure this?
Regards,
Michal MaciejewskiHi Michal,
You can go to the PCD and open the Collaboration Demo Role.
It should be in "content provided by SAP" folder. There you can open the
required page and remove the quick launch from the dynamic navigation.
But it is always advisable not to change SAP provided content.
Instead try to copy the role to your own namespace and try to modify it.
Pls reward points if useful

Deploying with UAC enabled on Win7 client
Hi,
We want to enable the UAC on Windows 7 client. But I have problem deploying applications. We are in a AD domain.
How can I deploy applications in "Administrator UAC disabled mode" to not have problems ?
Thank you for your helpcarrela,
Yep, I copy all of my source files first.
We've tried most every option we can think of, and it's the most reliable and the simplest (as far as being able to apply the same deployment methodology across the board).
Unfortunately, not every installer is a straight-up MSI. Also, you don't always want to re-package every application, because then it's your responsibility to support it, not the vendor's.
We have 600+ bundles and have made multiple passes through them all as we have changed methodologies several times.
You do have the option of uploading your large bundles to the repository, and then letting ZENworks handle deploying the files to your users in the background, but I prefer not to throw such huge items into the repository as it can take a very long time for it to compress and encrypt the files, plus, once you throw an item into the black box, the only way to modify it is to hang on to the source files and re-upload the entire thing if you want to make any changes.
You are correct about dynamic administrator working only if you copy the files locally, and I can tell you that we are an Active Directory environment and have had no problems with dynamic administrator accounts. All they are is a local account on the box that gets created/deleted on the fly by the ZENworks service (incidentally, this is why you see the "Interactive Services Detection" dialog when any installer with a UI is launched in the dynamic administrator space, because the ZENworks service is running as the SYSTEM account (session 0)).

How to install Office 2010 in ZCM11
Hello NG
I would like to know how i can install Office 2010 with ZCM11. In Office2010
no MSI files are available for the installation. The procedure must be
running with exe and xml config files.
Does somebody give me a tip?
thanks in advance for your help
RamonRamon,
I can't answer for ZCM11, but I can only assume that the process has not changed significantly from ZCM 10.3.x.
You've got several options at your disposal.
The way we do things in our environment is to use a copy files action (or a file copy utility that shows a progress bar, since a copy files action has no progress indicator) to copy the files locally to the workstation to a staging area, where they are then launched as a dynamic administrator/system account.
I'd say use an install files or install directory action, but my experience in the past has been that install directory ends up losing track of the directory structure, so it only works well for a single directory with no subdirectories.
Plus, every time you throw a new update MSP file into the "updates" folder within the network deployment folder for Office 2010, you'd need to re-upload to the repository whereas when you copy from a network share you can simply throw a new update into the folder and be done with it.
