Launching applications with CF

Hello - My company is considering a Web page as an
application launcher. Essentially it would be a page that displays
images of the program icons, and when the user clicks an icon, the
executable runs (C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office10\WINWORD.EXE). Is there any ColdFusion code that
will run an executable from a user's hard drive or network
share?

Is there any ColdFusion code that will run an executable from
a user's
hard drive or network share?
<cfexecute...> will launch many applications, from the
point of view of
the the CF-Server and the user it runs under. I suspect what
you really
want is not going to work well. A ColdFusion server has
almost no
ability to interact with a client system. If it did it would
be a huge
security risk and people would be abusing it all over the
place.

    Hi all, hope someone can help
    I recently installed j2se 5.0 update 1 and uninstalled my earlier version of 1.4.2_06.

  • "Unspecified Error" or "Runtime Error" 7 when launching application with AcroPDF on Secured Vista PC.

    We have a client application written in Visual Basic 6 that uses the AcroPDF ActiveX DLL to view PDF files in our app.  The app works fine the clients secured Windows XP SP 3 PC, and on my Windows Vista Business 32 bit Virtual Machine.  However, the application will not launch on the client's highly secured Vista Enterprise 32 bit PC's.  The form with the Acrobat Browser control does not even initialize before a "Runtime Error 7: Out of Memory" message is presented.  I created a VB 6 test app that has just the form and the Acrobat Browser control on it, and this test application will not initialize either.  It gets an "System Error &H80004005 (-2147467259). Unspecified Error" message on attempting to launch.  I get the same error message if I attempt to add the Acrobat Browser control to a form in an MS Excel Macro in Excel 2003 on the same PC.  Test VB6 applications using the other controls and references in the application launch fine.
    The Acrobat installed on these PC's is Acrobat Professional 9.0.0 and/or 9.1.0.  In two cases, we have been able to have the application load after uninstalling /reinstalling Acrobat 9.x on the PC, but ONLY for the profile that did the installation.  And in one case, after removing that user profile and then logging back on, that user started getting the same errors above.
    What policy or registry setting is needed to get this control to initialize on a secured Vista PC for all users?

    I have done the following on my Vista Business VM and I still have not been able to duplicate the error that I see at the client site.
    1.  Enabled UAC.
    2.  Implemented Software Restriction Policies.
    3.  Set the Default Security Level to Basic User (except for Local Administrators).
    4.  Lowered the Integrity Level on my AcroTest1.EXE and on my actual executable to "Low".
    The sample application and the user application loaded the form and initialized the AcroPDF control when logged in as a normal user account (the account is only a member of the "Users" group on the local Vista PC).
    Since this application is an actual Windows application (not an Internet Browser plug in), the default integrity level should be "Medium".

    I'm behind a proxy. In my browser -Chrome, IE and FF- putted the info of the proxy and I can browse. Aldo tried to put the info in the Java "Network Settings". It did not work -the launching of the console-.
    I installed the last Java Web Start in Windows 7 -Java7 Update5-. I disabled my anti-virus and firewall. Always the same result.
    Could you help me please. I don't have idea of what is going on.

    Can anyone help me on this?

    You code is not dealing with the DACL access to Winsta0\Default.  Only the LocalSystem account will have full access and the interactively logged on user which is why regedit is not displaying properly.  You'll need to grant access to your user.
    You also need to deal with UAC since that code is going to give you a non-elevated token via LogonUser().  You need to get the full token via a call to GetTokenInformation() + TokenLinkedToken.
    thanks

  • Launch Application Issue - Somebody with Automator experience please

    I had created an Application in Automator that was working until recently. I am running Snow Leopard with all updates.
    The entire application works, except for the "Launch Application" macro. The last step in my Application is to Launch the Front Row app.
    Although my automated application works, every time I run this, I get the following message:
    The action "Launch Application" encountered an error.
    Check the action's properties and try running the workflow again.
    When I look at the log, I get the following:
    Launch Application failed - 1 error
    Front Row got an error: Application isn't running (-600)
    Like I said earlier, my automation works, I just get this error every time. I have even tried just creating a 1 step "Launch Application" workflow and get this same message. However, if I try to launch other programs, it works.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    ok i made such workflow. I do get an error although front row launches. I'm not sure what the deal here is. but you can always do it by simulatiung th keyboard shortcut to launch front row. the default one is command+escape. you can use the following "run applescript" action to produce it

  • Launching an application with a PS script

    Hi everybody,
              I'm an absolute beginner with PowerShell, so please be patient :-)
    I'm going to write my first script for PowerShell. The script core concerns an external software I need to launch. This is a typical code for a batch file:
    cd case_path
    echo "macro" | "app_path"app.exe case.ext 2>&1 >> log
    It results in:
    - go to the folder containing the 'case' to launch (just a file containing settings)
    - run the case with application.exe, execute the 'internal macro' and generate a log file
    I'm able to run the application with
    Invoke-Item app_path\app.exe
    but I can't run the specific case (and the internal macro too). Could you help me, the batch script as a starting point?

    OK, I'm here again, just for feedback and sharing (are there other newbies out there?)
    I made some tests with both methods (thanks Fred and jrv!).
    method cmd /c
    $FS_path = $env:fsinstall + '\bin\win32\'
    $case_path = '.\f1'
    $cmdString = 'cd ' + $case_path + ' && echo "res" | "' + $FS_path + '"xfsflow doubleSkegCase.fme 2>&1 >> log.txt'
    method Start-Process
    $FS_path = $env:fsinstall + '\bin\win32\xfsflow'
    $args = '-c "res" doubleSkegCase.fme'
    $FS_case = '.\f1'
    $sim=@{
    FilePath = $FS_path
    ArgumentList = $args
    WorkingDirectory = $FS_case
    RedirectStandardOutput = "$FS_case\log.txt"
    Start-Process @sim -noNewWindow -wait
    just two more questions:
    1. is it possible to get rid of the standard error output? I'd like to have no error messages in the terminal or as a file
    2. I'd like to make the macro "res" in the ArgumentList
    as a variable, but I'm not able to. I guess the problem concerns escape characters or similar, could you help me?

    Hi,
    If you are using a WTK2.0 version you can simulate this command.
    add below line to system.config file in wtk20/lib dir

    invoke the command by

                 <fx:deploy width="800" height="600" nativeBundles="all" outdir="${OutputPath}" outfile="${app.name}">
                          <fx:info title="${app.title}"/>
                          <fx:application name="${app.title}" mainClass="${main.class}"/>
                          <fx:resources>
                               <fx:fileset dir="${OutputPath}" includes="*.jar"/>
                         <fx:fileset dir="${WorkingFolder}/temp"/>
                   </fx:resources>
               </fx:deploy>
    </target>What more needed in build.xml so that application launch correctly with exe ?
    Thanks

    You code is not dealing with the DACL access to Winsta0\Default.  Only the LocalSystem account will have full access and the interactively logged on user which is why regedit is not displaying properly.  You'll need to grant access to your user.
    You also need to deal with UAC since that code is going to give you a non-elevated token via LogonUser().  You need to get the full token via a call to GetTokenInformation() + TokenLinkedToken.
    thanks

  • 'Unable to Launch Application Error' - Java Web Start Running Under MS IIS.

    I am attempting to render the following .jnlp in MS IE:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <!-- JNLP File for LottoMadness Application -->
    <jnlp
       codebase="http://localhost/LottoMadness/"
       href="LottoMadness.jnlp">

         <j2se version="1.5"/>
         <jar href="LottoMadness.jar"/>
       </resources>
       <application-desc main-class="LottoMadness"/>
    </jnlp>I've deployed the .jnlp, .gif, and .jar to MS IIS, running locally on my PC.
    When I attempt to render the .jnlp in IE I obtain an 'Application Error' window stating 'Unable to Launch Application'. Clicking details gives me:

    (The .jnlp is basically from 'Programming with Java in 24 Hours', as this is the book I am learning Java from.)

  • Java - Unable to launch application

    The problem: When I try to run ASDM on my Cisco 5550, I'm getting the dialog box "Unable to launch application". When I click on "Details", I see the error: "The application has requested a version of the JRE (1.5+) that is not installed".
    The system I'm running this on is a Mac Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.5, and the latest Java version 7u13.
    The initial lines of "show ver" on the firewall are:
    # show ver
    Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 8.2(2)
    Device Manager Version 6.3(3)
    This is a relatively new problem; as recently as two weeks ago I was able to run ASDM with no problem. I suspect that the latest security-related Java updates have caused something to break.
    Any ideas?

    Solved this one on my own: The solution was to install the latest ASDM, 7.1.1_52. (This had occurred to me, but I didn't know if was compatible with the older ASA 8.2(2). It looks like it is!)

  • Problems building a stand alone application with LV 8.6.1.

    I'm having problems building  a stand alone application with LV8.6.1. I'm using a USB- 6008 DAQ and USB-6501 Digital device in the application. I already have an simple executable on the machine so the Run time Engine is already installed.  For the USB DAQ device, I assume I need to include the DAQmx8.8 as one of the installers. When I attempt to build the application, I'm prompted for several disk, one being a distribuition disk 1. I have the installation disk for the developer package. I did not  see a distribuiton disk as one of the installation disks. When I insert disk 1 I get an error that another application is trying to run. Could someone tell me which installers I need to include and where do I find the "distributor" disk.
    Thank you,

    are you building installer for the first time on this PC?...It usually asks for the drivers CDs and some toolkits if required.
    you just need to use drivers CDs (comes with LabVIEW) from which you installed on this PC. If you have ever upgraded drivers, then you have to use the latest CDs only.......
    another issue may be ...when u insert the driver disk, it has autorun, it will launch drivers installation wizard....close that and then try to build distribution.........
