Layer Name Max Length

Just tried out the Photoshop CC Image Asset Generation and it rocks. However, I can only add up to so many characters for names of the layers. Is there a way that the limit can be lifted. I think this would be beneficial especially for all the different densities for creating android assets. Other than making the layer names super short, does anyone have any input on how this could be solved.
Thanks

I just posted a Feddback thread as the idea makes sense: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/with_generator_photoshop_layers_need _to_allow_more_than_64_characters

  • Customize user logon name max length

    Hi all,
    We are changing our user name policy from testingadmin (12 char) to testingadministrator (20). The new user name don't fit in the bname field when try to login. Anybody know if is possible to expand it or change this size or to customize the max length of userid?
    Best regards and thanks in advanced.

    Do you have the SAP note indicate that it is not advisable to customize the user logon name max length or it cannot be customize?

  • Oracle 9ir2 Max length of element/field name?

    Does anyone know what the max length of a element/field name can be in Oracle 9ir2?
    thanks,
    -mcd

    Thanks.. So, the max length is still 30.. what about this:
    Is this also true for the length of element names defined in an XML schema for use by Oracle XML DB?
    There are two ways in which XDB can absorb a schema -- one that causes the XMLTYPE to be stored in a CLOB, the other causes the XMLTYPE to be broken down into relational tables behind the scenes. The latter uses the element names for the table names, so I'm assuming it would be restricted by the 30-character column name limit (unless XDB has some way of truncating the column names but preserving the element names). But what about the case where the XMLTYPE is stored in a CLOB? In theory, there's nothing limiting the length of the element name.

  • I want to find the image tag name from Image layer name InDesign JavaScript?

    I want to find the image tag name from Image layer name InDesign JavaScript?

    Hi,
    You can use following script to fetch image tag name and the layer name on which it lie:
    var imgBox = app.activeDocument.rectangles // fetch all rectangular frames from the active document
    for(var i = 0; i< imgBox.length; i++)
      if(null != imgBox[i].associatedXMLElement )
                var b = imgBox[i]
               alert("Image tag name "+imgBox[i].associatedXMLElement.markupTag.name + "\n exist on layer " + imgBox[i].itemLayer.name)
    Hope this would help you to resolve your problem.

  • A Script to Find and Replace Layer Names

    Are there any scripts to find and replace layer names?
    There is an excellent script available for Photoshop which allows you to not only replace words in layer names, but also insert words as Prefixes, Suffixes and Sequential Numbers.
    The illustrator version of this script only allows sequential numbering: It doesn't offer find and replacing of words.
    Ideally, it would be great if there was something that could do multiple find and replaces in one go:
    (e.g.
    You have layers like this Car, Dog, Bat
    You enter: car(Option1), dog(Option2), Bat(Option3)
    Your layers then become: Option1, Option2, Option3).

    big_smile, that's a very good start! Step 1 of Learning How To Script is indeed, adjusting an existing simple script to make it do more complicated things. (And usually then "break something", which is also a required part of the process.)
    You are correct in your observation this is repetitive stuff. For one or two different items that wouldn't be a problem, but in longer lists you soon get lost.
    The usual way of working with find-change lists is to build an array:
    var layernames = [
    [ 'FHairBowlBoy *Hair', 'Hairboy1' ],
    [ 'FHairCurlyafroBoy *Hair', 'Hairboy2' ],
    [ 'FHairSpikyBoy *Hair', 'Hairboy3' ],
    The general idea is to loop over all names, check if the current layer name is "layernames[i][0]" (the left column) and if so, rename it to "layernames[i][1]" (the right column). If you know how to write a loop in Javascript, then you can implement this right away.
    However ..
    A more advanced way to do this doesn't even need loop to over all layernames -- instead you can immediately "get" the correct name per layer! It's magic! Almost!
    The trick is to use a Javascript object instead of an array. Javascript objects are nothing special; Illustrator's 'layers' is an array of objects, and each object "layer" has a property "name", whose value you can read and set. What I do here is create a new object, where the "name" part is the original layer name and its value is the new layer name. All you need to check for per each layer is if there is a property 'object.originalLayerName', and if so, assign its value to that layer name.
    This looks a bit like the array above, except that (1) you use {..} instead of [..] to create an object, and (2) you add "name:value" pairs instead of "value" only (actually, the 'name' of a value in an array is simply its number).
    So this is what it looks like:
    // JavaScript Document
    var doc = app.activeDocument;
    // name indexed object
    var layernames = {
    'FHairBowlBoy *Hair':'Hairboy1',
    'FHairCurlyafroBoy *Hair':'Hairboy2',
    'FHairSpikyBoy *Hair':'Hairboy3'
    // loop through all layers
    for (var i = 0; i < doc.layers.length; i++)
    //Set up Variable to access layer name
    var currentLayer = app.activeDocument.layers[i];
    if (layernames[currentLayer.name])
      currentLayer.name = layernames[currentLayer.name];
    Enjoy!

  • Setting max length of the field when using Context Model Node

    I have created a model using Import Adaptive Web Service model option (a web service was a wrapper around SAP BAPI function module).
    There were no dictionary types created in the Local dictionary as a result of import.
    I have mapped the context of the controller to the model node.
    One of the fields in the model is name     CUSTOMER_NUMBER type string;
    Corresponding element in the wsdl of the web service is
    <xsd:element name="CUSTOMER_NUMBER" type="tns:char10" />
    I have created a view with the input filed mapped to the CUSTOMER_NUMBER field of the model node.
    When I type more than 10 chars into the field and hit the search button, I get a com.sap.dictionary.runtime.Ddcheck exception that the length of the field should be less than 10 chars.
    How can I set the max length of the field in design time to prevent runtime exception?
    Thanks,
    Julia

    Thank you for your reply.
    Java trim function will trim the white spaces only, not the characters.
    I can code check length functionality before calling execute function (the function that call the web service).
    I can also create a dictionary structure based on the model structure; create a context value node based on the dictionary structure and use WDCopyService API to move the data between value node and model node.
    I was looking for the best practice...
    When importing model based on Adaptive RFC, the dictionary structures are imported together with the model. This does not happen for Adaptive web service - hence there is a need to add coding for simple checks.

  • Max length of G_F array

    I have a html table on a APEX page. User can add/delete rows from the table at run time. I use attribute name="Fxx" to name input fileds. For example, name="F05" for the text_area inputs in column 5. When the page is submitted, I capture the values by loop through array apex_application.g_f05.
    Everything works fine until I have more than 475 rows in the table. IE gives me a "Page can't be displayed" error when submit.
    My question is: Is there a max length of apex_application.g_fxx type array? Have I reached the plsql limitation or apex_application.g_fxx limitation? How can resolve this?
    Thanks.

    I need to allow submit upto 700 rows from a html table on a APEX page. But what I have encountered is that if I have less that 478 rows in the table, there is no problem to submit the page and save all data to database. But as soon as I have more than 478 rows on the table, the submission will fail and the browser simply display a 'Page cannot find " error.
    Has anybody experieneced this before? Is there a way to resovle this? Thank you.

  • Oracle Portal, OWA_UTIL.redirect_url and Max Length URL

    I have a question relating to the max length of a URL that can be used within Internet Explorer 5.5 and Oracle Portal (3.0.9.8.5) On IAS 9i version 1.0.2.2.2
    My portal page submits to a procedure that carries out some basic DML and then uses the OWA_UTIL.redirect_url api to go to a different page.
    When I am in the DML procedure, I build up several string "name/pair" values that concatenate onto my redirect url.
    i.e.
    str1 := 'p_test=1&p_test=2&p_test=3&p_test=4';
    str2 := '&p_loc=USA&p_loc=GB&p_loc=NZ';
    url := 'http://my_procedure?' || str1 || str2;
    OWA_UTIL.redirect_url (url);
    The problem I am having is that in some cases the length of the URL that i produce exceeds the max length permitted by Microsoft I.E 5.5 (2048 characters) and hence my redirect fails.
    I understand that if i were to submit the name/pair values through the header then I could have as many as necessary and have read somewhere that it is possible while using the OWA_UTIL.redirect_url api to write values into the header and then close it.
    If this is possible could someone please explain how giving an example. If not is there a workaround to this problem?
    Regards
    Duncan

    I believe that this API actually writes a redirect request into
    the header of the HTTP request. For this redirect to work, the
    body of the HTTP request needs to be empty (i.e. you can't have
    any HTML being sent in the request).
    The OWA_UTIL packages actually provide some leeway here because
    it usually reorganizes requests. That gives you some
    flexibility with what you can include, but I believe that you're
    running into a limitation imposed by the HTTP specifications.

  • Getting the max length

    i am using pl/sql and i need to do some validation regarding the max length of the string. but the problem is that i have to refer back to the database for the length so that if the database change, my code don't change.
    is there any way to get the max length in the field of the table?
    eg:
    lets say i got a table call Person with column Name(varchar2(66)) and Sex(char(1))
    so how i retrieve the max length of the field Name?

    It's quite simple. We can use the PL/SQL %TYPE in our declarations. Check it out...

    SQL>

  • Script to search layer names

    Hi -
    Does anyone know if there is a script that can search through layer names within a file for a specific text string and then select it as the active layer?
    For instance, if a file has 4 layers, named My LayerX, LayerY, LayerZ, LayerA, I want to automatically search for a layer that has the text "rA" and make it the active layer.
    Thanks.

    This requires CS4 or better. It searchs using a RegExp and Action Manager so it should be very fast. It is set up now to deal with more than one matching layer.

  • Why do my layer names disappear on save......

    Hi All
    I am saving an ai file in illustrator 8 format from CS4, I change a layer name and save then close. When I open the file again, the layer name is not preserved. I have looked through the forums and docs but there is nothing about this , is there a little known setting. I know about the 'remember layer names on paste' and I have it enabled but still no good.
    Also the shortcuts for the layer panel do not work (default keys), for example the alt+eyeIcon should hide all but the layer clicked on as the alt+lock should lock all but the layer clicked on, but it is not happening ?
    Any help appreciated. Thanks.

    How do you name them? What is your system? AI 88 files use the old ASCII/ DOS charset, which limits the selection of characters, as well as was the length of the layer names limited back then. Also, if your system is set to a language dependent on specific Unicode features, the names may not be typed in with the correct characters in the first place due to Unicode vs. ASCII...

  • Script for using layer name in Save for Web command

    I am using the Save for Web  command (Illustrator CS2) to export layers to CSS so that each layer is  saved as a different jpg.  The only issue I have is that I want the  layer name to be part of the file name, but layer name is not an option  when I look at the "Edit Output settings" dialog for saving files.  Is  there anyway I can do this? I do not have experience writing or working with scripts.
    For example. My fiel name is flower.ai.  I will have 20  different layers (each containing a different color of the same image)  and want the exported file to be flower-scarlet.jpg,  flower-cranberry,jpg, etc. Right now I am looking at renaming all the  files manually, but as I am creating 40 images per product on my website, this will be very time consuming.
    Thanks in advance
    Christine

    Btw.. to make it work for JPGs, change the PNG options to the following:
    var options = new ExportOptionsJPEG();
            options.antiAliasing = false;
            options.optimization = false;
            options.artBoardClipping = true;
            options.qualitySetting = 100; // value of 0 to 100, 60 is medium, 100 is perfect
            options.blurAmount = 0;
            options.verticalScale = 100;
            options.horizontalScale = 100;

  • Is it possible to print the layer name on file/copy when print or export file?

    Hi,
    I produce a large number of pages in InDesign.
    In each document there are 5 layers. 1 layer with images and 4 layers with language-editions.
    For safety and quality control I would like to print out the layer name together with the crop-marks.
    Like... Documentname / page number/ layerImages - layer language
    Is that even possible? That is...without me having to write it myserlf in the bleed. :-)

    InDesign's pasteboard, bleed, and slug areas are independent for each document page. Running header text variables in these areas can capture sources on document pages. If you place a text frame with a character style for the layer name, and a character style for the language name, on a layer, and capture them in a character-style-based running header in the slug, for example, the source from whichever layer is visible will appear in the running header in the slug area. Similarly, you can capture other text variables for page number, filename, date/time, etc.
    It may take a little fussing to set it up the first time, but thereafter when you change layer visibility, the visible layer name changes automatically.
    NOTE: Text frames on master page pasteboards, bleed, or slug areas do not appear on document pages unless they also touch the document page border.

  • How do I copy parts of layers from one AI doc into a new AI doc and keep/create same layer names?

    How do I copy PARTS of layers containing many objects from one CS5 AI (v.15.0.2) doc into a new CS5 AI doc and keep/create the same layer names?
    To start with, I have one fairly complex AI document with 100 layers,  with several hundred items in each layer. For example, one layer named "Stars" contains  400 separate stars (not grouped), another layer named "Crosses" contains 300 separate crosses, and a 3rd layer named "Text" contains 200 separate words (not outlined).
    If I select, by marqueeing a section of the image/artboard, some (but not all) of the individual items contained in the several layers, then  paste that selection into a new CS5 AI doc, I cannot get them to  create new layers of the same name. Instead they go into one general layer (e.g. "Layer 101") as a jumble of discrete, but unorganized objects (no layers or sublayers). In other words, I have lost the 3 main layers from which I selected a bunch of objects.
    Checking "Paste Remembers Layers" has no effect on this result. In fact "Paste Remembers Layers" does not remember layers at all. Only if I select ALL the items in the several layers will it paste those layers by those names into the new doc (or create new layers of the same names).
    Of course it is a COLOSSAL waste of time copying the ENTIRE document, then pasting the WHOLE thing into the new doc (with layers retained), then deleting the parts I DON'T need, so please don't suggest that as the solution.

    No Monica, nothing in Plug-ins other than the standard installed items (extensions, filters, formats, etc.). No 3rd-part clipboard extension on my computer that I'm aware of, either. All frustratingly basic. And my other CS5 Adobe programs appear to work well, at least to the extent that I am familiar with them.
    So, from what I can tell of the various comments (thanks to all of you), am I correct in thinking that it seems I can't, in fact, do what all of you can do (that is, copy some objects from some layers in one doc and paste into another doc preserving those same layers by name and organization, and each containing the correct objects from each original layer)?
    If so, that solves half my issue - "is it supposed to be possible to do it"; leaving just the other half - "why can't I do it too".
    I'll get those screenshots made and posted later just in case I haven't adequately described the issue, or y'all haven't understood it.

  • Load files to stack with out file extention as part of layer name

    Ok so as the title says i'm trying to figure out how to modify the "Load Files to Stack..." script so that it doesn't put the file extention as part of the layer name. it makes it a pain to have to go through and remove it when dealing with a lot of layers. I'm using photoshop CS5 on Win 7.
    Also if possible a script that would make Comp Layers for each layer created when loading files to stack it's a bit much to ask but worth a shot

    If anyone is just looking to import files into stack without extension names here's what I did:
    1- Go to your adobe scripts folder:
    64 bit - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Presets\Scripts\
    32 bit - C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Presets\Scripts\
    2 - Copy and paste these 2 files somewhere other than in the adobe folder like the desktop (I had to due to permission restrictions when saving):
    Load Files into Stack.jsx
    Stack Scripts Only\CreateImageStack.jsx
    3 - Rename these files to
    Load Files into Stack - no ext.jsx
    CreateImageStack_noext.jsx
    4 - edit Load Files into Stack - no ext.jsx (I use notepad++) and save
    Line 16 - <name> Load Files into Stack (no extension) </name>
    Line 43 - $.evalFile(g_StackScriptFolderPath + "CreateImageStack_noext.jsx");
    5 - edit CreateImageStack_noext.jsx, insert this line into "line 411" (just above "app.activeDocument.activeLayer.name = this.fName;") and save
    Line 411 - this.fName = this.fName.replace(/(?:\.[^.]*$|$)/, '');
    6 - copy and paste these edited files back into your adobe ...\Presets\Scripts\ folder (overwrite folder), reload photoshop and you should now see in File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack (no extension) available!
    And for the lazy, here are the two files
    load_files_into_stack_no_ext.zip
    drop these in your photoshop scripts folder:
    64 bit - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Presets\Scripts\
    32 bit - C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Presets\Scripts\
    Hopefully this helps someone! Why adobe just doesn't have this as the default is beyond me.
