Layer Style Menu help?

Hi,
What i'm creating is a visual for a building plan.
The basic core of it is 30 stages of the build in the form of
30 images on 30 different frame, which are linked to 30 months
(buttons across the top) I also have a left and right arrow
function to cycle through the frames.
What i need now is the ability to show certain items like
cranes etc on the build (toggle on or off)
So i have 30 new frames which have the building + the cranes
on them.
Now i need a way to switch from the 30 standard frames, the
the 30 crane frames at any given point eg. if im on frame 10 (month
10) and turn on cranes, i'll see frame 10 (month 10) with cranes
included. I then carry on cycling through the crane frames, until i
decide to turn off the cranes and switch back to normal mode, again
from the current frame.
Thanks for any help :)

Alright.
You can use the same type of logic for this that I put in my
response to your other thread.
I would create 2 Movie Clips on the stage, one with the 30
standard frames. The other with the 30 crane frames, both with a
stop() in the first frame.
Then, give each of them instance names (say "normFrames" and
"craneFrames").
Now, you need 3 total buttons. "forwardBtn" "backBtn" and
"toggleBtn". The first to move you forward, the second to move
back, and the third to toggle the crane frames on and off.
In the first frame of your root timeline place the following
code:
craneFrames._visible = false;
forwardBtn.onRelease = function(){
craneFrames.gotoAndStop(craneFrames._currentframe + 1);
normFrames.gotoAndStop(normFrames._currentframe + 1);
backBtn.onRelease = function(){
craneFrames.gotoAndStop(craneFrames._currentframe - 1);
normFrames.gotoAndStop(normFrames._currentframe - 1);
toggleBtn.onRelease = function(){
craneFrames._visible = !craneFrames._visible;
}

  • Cannot choose layers w/o going to layer style menu

    I'm on CS3, on a network. Over the weekend the network admin put through updates to several programs, none of those were Adobe. However, in photoshop, now I can't select a layer by clicking on it. I have to double-click, which opens the layer styles menu, click OK or cancel to close the menu, then the layer will be selected. This isn't happening anywhere else. Illustrator gives me error messages when trying to apply a layer effect, but I don't know when that started, it may not have anything to do with the current network updates. Any ideas, especially for the PS problem? That's quite annoying to deal with.
    Thanks!!!

    Hi
    thanks for the response. I've always done that, that's what was so puzzling.
    We finally figured it out - what happened was the couple of files that were
    open when IT started the update were the only ones with the problem. They
    were corrupted when a force quit was initiated ... or at least that's what
    we think.

  • Layer Styles Not Saving for Use on Other Computers

    I've been trying over and over for the last 6 hours to get the layer styles I save in my custom pallet to work on other computers. I mean, I have a bunch of pallets from other sources and somehow they achieved a way of being able to save theirs, now why can't I do it on mine?
    So, here's the story of what I've done. I have a Text layer, I've added a list of FX to it via the Layer Styles menu. Now I save the document. I open up a new document and copy/paste the FX onto a new Text layer in another document window. It works great.
    Then, I save the layer styles for use later, but no. When I do everything exactly the same way, my Layer Style that I saved has lost all it coordinates of shadows and stroke widths, bevels, you name it, it's screwed up. Now I've tried this so far on CS4 and CS5, 3 different computers. All 3 computers have different settings for how Photoshop is set up, so I know it's NOT my settings alone. Though, it keeps the colors and custom gradients how they are, everything is bonkers.
    I'm ready to stop trusting in Photoshop to be there for me when I need it...or punch a hole in the wall. Whichever comes first.
    I need help for this as soon as possible, for I have an assignment I need this for.

    Seems to me you left out the most critical piece of information, that is, HOW did you save the layer style for later use ?
    You might read this tutorial to see if you did it correctly.

  • Downloaded Layer Styles

    Hey, so I just installed PSE 8 and I have downloaded some fantastic layer styles. Well, I made metadata files for them and tried to put 4 of them into the correct folder and everything. I deleted the thumbnail and everything, but after all that, only one of the four layer styles show up on the layer styles MENU. All of them show up in the show all file, but only the one on the menu. Normally that would be fine, but I have more I want to add and I'd really REALLY like them to be organized so I don't have to look through a million different layer styles every time. Plus, I'd like to learn how to make my own....
    Anybody know how to help?

    You might also reset the photoshop cs6 preferences and see if that clears things up.
    (preferences are not reset when reinstalling the software)
      Restore all preferences to default settings
         Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings.
    New Preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop.

  • Need help saving layer styles Photoshop CS6 Extended for Mac (Mountain Lion)

    I have been trying to learn Photoshop. I am using Photoshop CS6 Extended on a Macbook Pro (Mountain Lion). My Adobe software has been updated. I have been doing tutorials using a lot of layer styles. In one of these tutorials, it was suggested that if I would possibly want to use the style again that I should save it. At this point I had entered all my layer styles info and was still in the window with the list of layer styles on the left (bevel and emboss, drop shadow, etc., and the "New Style" button on the right. I clicked on the "New Style" button and when another window popped up asking me to name the style, I named it. When I looked at my styles in the styles panel, I saw the little button for the new style. I saved my graphic and closed it. Later I wanted to apply this style to text in another graphic. The style was used on text originally. When I clicked on it though the style didn't look the same. Upon investigation, a couple of setting under Bevel and Emboss had reverted to defaults. They were different numbers when I saved the style. I could go back in and change these two numbers and get the same results, but I don't understand why these numbers changed on their own -- why the style didn't completely "save." Is there something I have done wrong, or is this some kind of bug? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

    Thank you very much for your reply! Yes, both documents were at 72 resolution. This morning I tried to save yet another style (same resolution document). It worked when I used it the first time. Then I switched to the other style I had saved. That one took some of the bevel and emboss settings from this morning's style. The numbers which will not save are the angle and altitude under the shading section. Just now I made another document (text at 72 resolution) and both styles had changed these numbers to 120 and 30. Is this something I am doing wrong? I am trying to use text of a similar font and size. I updated my software last night in the hopes that that would help. This morning I reset preferences. Don't know what to do! Thanks for helping me!

  • Photoshop Layer Styles and Encore Help

    I've made a background in PS CS3 with buttons, the buttons have an outer glow layer style applied to them, when I import the (background & buttons) as a menu into Encore CS3 the buttons show up with a stoke effect and not the glow effect that was applied in PS CS3.
    This is my first Encore project so is there something I'm doing wrong!!
    Thanks
    Scott

    My guess is that you have applied the "glow" to the highlight (subpicture) layer of the button. A subpicture can consist of max 3 pure colors which isn't nearly enough to render a glow effect in.
    The only way to simulate the glow effect as button highlight is by using this workaround technique:
    How do I create a Button Rollover effect?
    (This is not a recommendation. I would rather suggest to rework your menu design so that it doesn't need workarounds.)

  • HELP I accidentally deleted a layer style

    I know it was a dumb error, but I deleted the high drop shadow layer style. How do I get this back?! Any help would be much appreciated o.O
    Thanks!

    If you're lucky, all you need to do is to delete mediaDatabase.db3. On a Mac, it’s in <your hard drive>Library>Application Support>Adobe >Photoshop Elements>9.0>Locale>en_US (or your location).
    In Windows 7 or Vista, it’s in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Locale\en_us (or your location). For XP, it’s C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Locale\en_US (or your location).
    The next time you start PSE, don't do anything till the thumbnails reappear in the panels.

  • Need help with my layer styles pop up!!!

    Hello,
    Hopefully someone can help me out here. I am currently running the new creative suite 6. Everything works perfectly fine but when I am in photoshop trying to open my layer styles it will not pop up...but I know it's there because the hand shows up and I can't click anything else until I click enter which would mean im done in the layer styles. I restarted my computer/re-installed photshop/downloaded the update...still doesn't work but it once did. Does anyone have any clue why this would happen.
    Thank you,
    Kevin

  • Online Help opens when I open layer styles and won't stop!

    Help! Sometimes when I open a layer style dialogue box, suddenly my browser takes over and opens one or two or even three windows/tabs with Photoshop.com. If I try to go back to Photoshop, or right click and minimize it, three more tabs open with Photoshop.com. Why is this happening???!?!
    (Last night after a long time trying to resolve it, even by going to task manager and minimizing, I found that by holding in ALT and clicking on Photoshop, I was able to go back into it without launching a barrage of internet tabs, as ALT seemed to change the layer style dialoge options some. However, now that I know how to resolve it temporarily, I still don't know WHY this is happening. Any clues?)

    It may be corrupt preferences.
    Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1
    You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
    This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
    A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

  • Can anyone help me find my lost layer styles and photo effects in the Effects Panel?

    I am using the trial version of Photoshop Elements 9. I downloaded and tried to install a glitter style. When I went back to my workspace I had no layer styles or photo effects in the Effects panel....not one. The filters are the only ones there now. What have I done?

    Quit the editor, then go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Locale\en_US (or your location) and delete mediaDatabase.db3. When you restart the editor, give it time to rebuild the panel contents before you try to use PSE.

  • Where is layer style in Photoshop Elements 6?

    In a photoshop tutorial there is instructions to open circle shape layer and add layer style Inner Shadow, Outer Glow, and Bevel and Emboss from the layers panel.  After searching through the layers menu and layer's panel I can not find these options.  Does anyone know where they are located.

    Layer Styles are located in the effects palette.

  • Layer Styles and using Delete Key PSE4

    Hello,
    Slowly getting getting to know PSE4, will take more time. Finding lots of tips here in this forum and other similiar forums and sites.
    Have two quick Questions:
    1. It was mentioned "Jodi's Spedia Layer Styles". Is this a tutorial or actual styles? More info on this would be appreciated.
    2. When doing the last stage of a vignette, I had to use the backspace or delete key. I found this out by reading in this forum. Where is that documented in the Help? Is the backspace/delete key the only way, or is there a menu/mouse click also?

    TonyC

    Hi and thanks everyone for the replies. I will have to take another look in the Help Section, I looked everywhere and could not find that shortcut listed. Maybe I was looking for Backspace, and should be looking for Delete.
    I will be contacting Jodi shortly via email.
    Am confused about the "Adobe Photoshop Elements One-Click Wow by Jack Davis, ISBN 0-321-30468-3." Is this a book? Doing a web search all I can find is a book. Can someone send me a good link for more info on this. If actual styles and layers, will it work in PSE4?
    Something else: Please don't take this the wrong way, but I like to know is the subscription worth getting? I'm 50/50 on getting it or not.
    Thanks again!

  • LAYER STYLES NOT RENDERING

    hi! :) i'm using after effects cs3 on a quadecore pc, 2gb RAM. my output is in quicktime .mov. layer styles that i've added doesn't come out in my rendered project like drop shadow or stroke. none of my layers are in 3D so i don't know what i may or may not be doing right in my render settings or project switches. help?

    Well, depending on your output module templates and render settings, OpenGL may be enabled by default for some of them. You can easily change that by going in the menu and choosing Edit --> Templates --> Render Settings (the setting is a checkbox called "Render using OpenGL").

  • Layer Styles Grayed Out (PSE6 Mac)

    I want to add a glow effect to some text, i have it in a seperate layer to the background, but when i try and clik on layers -> layer style -> style settings it is grayed out and unclickable!!!!!!
    HELP ME

    That's not how you do it. Go to the Styles and Effects palette (It should be in the bin, but if not, you can make it visible from the Window menu), click the layer styles section (hover your mouse over the icons on the palette and the popup text will tell you), and then choose the glows from the pulldown menu. Pick the one that's closest and double click to add it to your layer.
    After you've done that, the layer will show a little script fx in the layers palette. Double click that for the styles editor and you can change away.
    The Style Settings menu command is grayed out because you have no style to see the settings of, not yet.

  • Photoshop CS3 Layer Style Issue

    I have Photoshop CS3. Ever since I installed it I have had an issue with Layer Styles, one that I have not had before with other versions of Photoshop. Whenever I apply a Layer Style to a layer the Effects menu automatically drops down in the layers palette. I have to go and manually close the menus each time for every layer that I apply the style to. I have never had this problem before with any other versions of Photoshop.
    If you have any ideas or advice on how to fix this problem it would be of a great help.

    Go to the layers palette options and uncheck Expand New Effects.
