Layout of "memo" field on a page

Hi!
I'm trying to output from a database entry that has line
breaks in the field, but when the data is outputted on the page the
text doesn't add the line breaks.
Example:
In the database:
Mr Smith,
23A Somewhere Lane,
Nowhereland,
NE1 2KG
On the page:
Mr Smith, 23A Somewhere Lane, Nowhereland, NE1 2KG
Is there any way that I can tell the page to display the text
exactly as it appears in the database field?

As jdeline indicated, HTML normally ignores ASCII carriage
returns
and|or line feed characters as well as tabs, multiple spaces
and other
"white space" characters.
You can replace the ASCII line breaks with proper HTML line
break tags
as demonstrated by jdeline or you can place your output
inside of
<pre></pre> OR <code></code> blocks
that tell HTML browsers to honor
ASCII line breaks.

SharePoint Bug? Conflict Error when saving a Page with a "Required" DateTime field in the page layout

Hello,
I've just recently encountered a weird error / bug in SharePoint. Here is the scenario:
- I have a custom column "Test Date" that is of DateTime field type. The field is configured as REQUIRED.
- It is added to a custom Content Type "Test CT" that is based on a "Publishing Page" content type
- I have created a Page Layout "Test PL" which is based on that particular content type.
Now here is what happens:
1. I try to create a page based on both that Content Type and Page Layout in the Pages Library. I manage to create it successfully.
2. However, when I go to try and edit the page, fill-in the required values and try to save it using the PAGE TAB -> SAVE BUTTON, I get the below error/s. Note that this happens no matter what I choose in the drop-down menu for Save Button.
"The file XXX has been modified by USER on DATE"
But I know I am the ONLY user modifying the page.
If I try to save again it gives me options to whether Discard my Changes, Keep Editing, Overwrite Changes, or Merge.
3. HOWEVER, if I use the Save button on the UPPER RIGHT corner of the screen (the shortcut). I am able to save successfully without any errors!
The only thing I've tried that made it work was if I made the DateTime OPTIONAL. But I need it to be REQUIRED.
Is there any workaround to this error / bug?

I have some additional info but nothing really good.
If you click the Save in the left side of the Ribbon then it looks like that is when you get the message. If you click the Save in the top right corner you won't get the message. They must be calling different saving functions.
There really is no way around it other than making the field optional which probably removes some server side validation checks causing that message.
We've chosen to remove that field from the page as I needed it required, then they can't publish the page until they go to the properties and set the article date. By removing the field from the page layout the message goes away.
I hope MS will fix this at some point.

Checking header on each page for memo field

Hi,
I have a report which has several details sections (4). In each detail section I have a title field and a content field. The content field is a memo fields and my problem is when the memo field goes on to another page it does not show the header.
I read somewhere about having the memo fields in sub reports and then in the subreport put a group in and the header in the group header and set repeat at top of every page to true. I tried this but my table is always empty because in vb code I create a memory recordset and set that as the recordsource. When I try to preview the report I get and error:-
This group section cannot be printed because its condition field is nonexistent or invalid.
I am getting I get this error because I have changed the datasource of my main report.
Is there another way to solve my issue?

I have made some progress. I now get the report showing the subreport but because the detail section does not fix on page it is starting it on a new page. I want it to fill the rest of the page and then continue on to the next.
Any ideas please,

The memo field in forms won't display text?

I am using Firefox 33.1.1 on a WindowsXP Pro system and have been using FireFox for quite some time . . .
Recently, I must have done something, I just don't know, but I can't seem to remedy the problem.
I create and use a lot of forms. Standard <form></form> HTML forms.
Whenever I pull up a form, I can no longer see any text as I type into the MEMO field. I also don't see any contents of the MEMO field when I recall a record fromn the database within the form.
This is happening ONLY with the MEMO field.
This very message I had to type in notepad and copy and paste it into this bug report form.( OMG - when I pasted this text into this form, I can see the text!! But still not in other forms)
YET, the text is indeed in the form. This text will display when recalling a record to the webpage and displaying the memo field contents on the page.(Not in form)
I have done all I can according to FireFox problem resolution suggestions including uninstalling and reinstalling a fresh pristeen copy of Firefox to a diff location on HD.
I do NOT have this problem when I go into Windows IE. I know there is no problem with the form itself or database contents. This happens on ANY memo field at ANY website, not just mine.
I cannot say if this began after an FF update or not. I feel it may be a simple fix. I may have hit a key or combination of keys that changed a setting causing this, but I dont know where.
Any clues would be helpful.

Try to disable OMTC and leave hardware acceleration in Firefox enabled.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

This can be a problem with the font that is used to display the text.
You can do a font test to see if you can identify corrupted font(s).

You can try different default fonts and temporarily disable website fonts to test the selected default font.

Using javascript in PDF how to identify insatnces of field on all pages

Hi,
I am creating a PDF document with report kind strcuture,so that if i have a field in 1 Page (Header section ) then the field will also be there on Page 2 (Header section ) and so on for all pages.
I am basically creating from a tool.So if i have text field on Page 1 with name 'text1' then on Page 2 it has a name say 'text1_osi21' kind.
What i need is how to identify or get all the occurences of my desired field on all pages.
I also tried with getField('text1.0') kind but it wont work since for the second,thrid ... instances of the field its appending a value 'osi#'.
Also tried using 'rect' properties but we cant gurantee about the position of the desired field to remain same on all pages.
Please help with any clue

SQL conversion of MEMO field

I have a web site that builds pages based on content in an
Access DB. One of the fields is MEMO and contains body copy for the
page (usually 300-400 words per record). This bodyCopy field is
HTML tagged IN the record (in case that matters). So I import the
whole database into SQL. Fine. The pages display ok - All the data
in the bodyCopy field is STILL in there, I can see it on the
webpages. BUT, I cannot see, or edit the cells in SQL Enterprise
manager. If I add a new record similar bodyCopy pastes are
truncated. SQL converted the MEMO field to ntext(16). I have tried
text(16) and nvarchar(8000) with the same results. I need to be
able to edit the existing cells, and input similarly sized data
chunks in with new records...
Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

SQL is a bit different in managing the data directly than
Access was.
ntext should be fine for any previous memo fields.
If it tells you that you cannot edit the cells, it is usually
because the Key has not been defined. Importing from Access will
bring in all your data, but it won't necessarilly apply the Key
identifier. Without a key it won't let the data be edited, at least
not directly.
If it is showing up in the web page OK then the data would
not appear to be truncated, just not all viewable in the SQl
listing. If you try to enter too much data into a field in SQL it
usually will simply refuse to do it.
Have ou tried connecting to the SQL server via Access (ADP)?
If you have been used to Access all this time, it can be a really
nice way of working between the two and gives you a familiar way of
doing things.

Memo fields in SBO 2004

I need to add a memo field to my custom form and I am not sure the best way to do it. I can't seem to see a memo field in screen painter.
Can anyone give me any help pls ?

Can't you expand the height of a regular edit box?
Maybe you can set the type of the object to it_EXTEDIT, I don't see an extedit item in the menu, but you can change the type afterwards using the item properties.
I have not tried this myself.
In the docs, I found this:
"[ScrollBars Property] Returns or sets a value specifying whether or not the text box (multi-line text box only) has a scroll bar."
But I found no info on multi-line text boxes, only this clue at the bottom of the page:
"Remarks
To apply a scroll bar, the EditText object must be defined as it_EXEDIT in Item.Type."

Help needed very BAD, how to manage layout which is going to 2 pages

Hi all,
Need your help very bad. I am very new to reports.
I have a layout which goes to the second page. First page is a form layout (One record). I drew the form layout and placed all the fields in the form and works fine. But my problem is when I have 3 fields which are on the second page, because it doesnot fit in the first page. When I run it, the form (first page) get printed for all the records and the second page get printed only in the last at the end after printing all the records. How do I ask it to print it simultaneously. First page then the second page and so on. I set the PAGE BREAK AFTER to YES and still does not work.
Please guys need your help.

Adding new field to the page when the field source not available

Hi,
I have a requirement to add vendor_serial_number (manufacturer's serial number) to the page /oracle/apps/csi/instance/general/webui/InstanceDetailsPG. This column is available in mtl_serial_numbers_all_v table. I don't see any VO in that page has access to this. What is the best approach to add this field in the page.
Create a new VO with the query to get the vendor_serail_number based on the item_number, serial_number.
Attach the VO to the AM InstanceDetailsAM or create a new custom AM as we can't attach the new VO to the seeded AM.
Add a item to the page that gets the column value from this new VO.
Please suggest.

Duplicate a Text Field on Every Page of a Document?

Today I wrote my first vb.net/adobe app. I managed to open the pdf doc in adobe and create a named text field. I managed to insert a java script that gets the current date when the document is open and updates the text field. I would like to duplicate the text field on all pages of the document. Manually, I can right click on a text field and select duplicate. I don't see a property or method that allows me to program this. The field property "page" appears to be read only. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I also tried the brute force method of moving from page to page and creating a text field on each page. I used pageNum to changes the page, but, adobe didn't seem to recognize that. I saw the page change on the screen, but, all of the textfields were created on the first page!

Changing font/-size of a text field on master-pages not possible? (field prop)

I would like to change the font and font-size of a textfield on a master page.
I wonder if I do anything wrong, because the font-options (size, font etc.) are simple greyed out / not avaliable, when I click on my text field.
It seems, there is any way to customize the font-properties of a textfield (only) on master-page.
Well I guess it would work with java script in init-event ... but really, why the hell it should not be possible simply to use the properties/text properties?!
Please correct me if I am wrong. Do I do anything wrong or is it really not possible to customize font of a text field on master pages?

I was just about to post, that I figured it out.
Actually, I use Livecycle Designer in SAP (transaction SFP). There seems to be a bug (one of hundrets by the way).
If I click on a field, that does not have text-property e.g. subform, text-option menu greys out.
Afterwards it stay this way until I click/doubleclick into a simple text (not text field). From that moment on, text/font-option menu is available again, until I click on something without text. => So pay attention and click wisely

by the way: SAP does not sopport interactive forms higher than Reader 8.1. Its statement "8.1 is fine enough for everything you need in a SAP/Adobe Interactive Form". So beware of using XFA higher than in 8.1. sad, but true ...

Is it possible to disable the 'edit layout' link on the record detail page

Is it possible to disable the 'edit layout' link on the record detail page? Not the homepages, I know there is a switch for that, but I thought there was one for the detail pages?
I want to disable this as I dont want users saving their own layouts, they must stick to the related sections defined in the default layout. The problem is that if they are to have access to certain related lists when an opportunity is of a certain type but NOT other types. If they have saved the layout (using the 'Edit Layout' link), and change the record type, they will see related sections that have been set to 'Not available' in the default layout (ie step 4) for that 'type'.

Robbo, at this time it not possible to disable the Edit Layout on the record detail page.

Step 1 - Create a new Field of type MessageStyledText using Personalization Link.
Step 2 - Set the corresponding VO Attribute, which will fetch Hire Date.
Step 3 - Extend the CO and calculate the Served Year, using Java Code.
Step 4- Set the same value over the bean manually.

DTS Import of MDB in SQL Server 2000 Drops Memo Field Data

I have used DTS in SQL Server 2000 to import an MDB filed (MS ACCESS) of a table. When the table is imported the primary key is lost and the memo field data is completely gone.
I use the tranformation option in the DTS wizard to add the primary key and make sure the data type for the memo field is varchar and has a size of 8000. I need that large size since I am storing lots of html code.
When I preview the data I see the html code that is supposed to get imported. However, when I return all rows from the table in Enterprise Manager the field is empty.
So I tried to manually copy the data from the MS Access Database into SQL Server. Could not figure out if SQL Server has an interface like MS Access to simply copy data into a table. So I linked to the tables from MS Access to the SQL Server table.
When I opened the linked table I see the data in the description field. However, if I return the rows from within SQL Server no data is present.
I have some ASP code trying to read the data in the SQL Server table. However, nothing is returned and when I run the SQL Statement, nothing gets returned. The SQL statement returns all rows. All the other data is present but nothing in the description field.
What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions anyone, please!

It is important to know the version of MS Access. I will recomend you to use nvarchar datatype instead of varchar. May be the description field contain unicode characters.
