Lcd tv as g5 monitor to edit final cut hd

Has anyone bought or used any of the 32"westinghouse lcd tvs with dvi input with the g5 to edit with? I am considering buying one to use as a computer monitor. I currently edit with final cut with 2 screens. The model is the 32 inch- available at bestbuy online to view specs.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated,
Candace

Hi Candace
You may want to check out this link http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/2/129823.html
People who have them seem to like them, the only thing I would hesitate on is the max resolution: 1366x766 - I use a the dell 2005fpw running at 1680x1050, and I think if my screen was as big as the Westinghouse, I would want to have a higher resolution to go with it. Remember the Apple Cinema Display 30" can manage 2560x1600, although admittedly it is a bit more expensive

  • Editing Final Cut Studio Projects on Final Cut X

Has anyone heard if you will ever be able to edit older Final Cut projects on the FC X?

    Either- http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/7toX/
or use 7. It can exist on the same Mac alongside FCP X - though you can't run them both at the same time.

  • Want my external monitor to view Final Cut Canvas

Just bought an external monitor specifically for clients to view Final Cut on a large screen.
Is there a way (button?) to use as opposed to dragging and enlarging my canvas over to the new monitor every time?
    thx.

There may be a way to set your second monitor (you've got it hooked up thru the back of the computer as a second monitor, not just a mirror, yes?
Go to VIEW - VIDEO PLAYBACK... see if there isn't an option for digital playback-MAIN and or another option. MAIN will just put it on your main screen. If there is another option... try that. Then, VIEW - EXTERNAL VIDEO -- ALL FRAMES.
    Short of that...
Hold down the OPTION button and click on WINDOW... then set user option 1. Resize your windows across so your canvas is now in the other monitor and make it full size. Resize the other windows as you feel necessary.
You can switch back and forth from those by hitting SHIFT-U and CONTROL-U.
    Coupla options anyway.
    Good luck,

  • Editing Final Cut Express HD

I want to edit video filmed in HD in Final Cut Express (FCE), which it is capable. I am looking at the Cannon HV20 video camera.
    1. Do I need a video capture card/board etc. or will the cable with the camera import the file directly to my MacPro.
    2. I have extensive analog video editing experience, is digital similar and......
    3. I realize that unless I have a HD DVD player, the picture won't be HD, BUT will the picture be better filmed in HD and FCE converting it to standard format, or should I just look for a good analog video camera.
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

You will need to buy a Firewire cable to capture from the HV20. Nothing too expensive, but you can't capture video with the USB cable that's in the package. I assume you already have a FW port on the MacPro.
I have an HV20 and the Mac gear listed in my profile. It works great and results look awesome! I have captured HDV to the internal drive on the iMac and generic Firewire drives on both the desktop and the G4 laptop. My test on the laptop was only a few minutes of HDV tape, but it worked. Canon has had glitches with daisy-chained FW drives in the past, but I've seen no such problems. Please search for "HV20" and you'll find a bunch of recent posts.
See also the HV20 forum at dvinfo.net and hv20.com.
On question #3: The HV20 has a ton of features and is at a reasonable price point. There are 'prosumer' features like shutter and aperture control, volume control, and 24p capture (w/some edit limitations for now). You didn't really mean "analog" in your question, but DV tape as the alternative. Hard-disk and DVD camcorders seem to have a bunch of limitations. The HV20 will let you record in HDV or DV now, or record in HDV and down-convert in-camera, in FCE, or in iDVD, so you're pretty future-proof -- for at least a month ot two. [grin]

  • Whilst editing, final cut pro 7 suddenly quits, can anybody help?

Hi, Whilst I am editing pro resNT footage on my copy of Final cut pro 7, the program suddenly quits, and i have to constantly re open and carry on!!! Can any one advise me as to how to cure this problem ?

Thanks for the advise Todd, my original footage was shot on AVCHD, which as you know is MTS codec, this was converted into MP4, and stored on a 1 TB hard drive, but it was connected to my Mac  with a USB connection. The MP4 footage  made FCP perform irratically, so I was advised to convert to Pro res NT, which i have done, FCP now runs perfectly, but now I don't use the hard drive. Could I use the hard drive, regardless of it not having a Firewire connection.

  • Can Final Cut Express edit Final Cut Pro files

I have some Final Cut Pro files that I created while working for someone else, if I buy Final Cut Express, will I be able to open and edit them?
There basic files, nothing real fancy if that matters...
    Thanks!
    R-

Officially no. It may work, but you're rolling the dice. The newer the version of FCP the less likely it is to work.

  • Sharing and EDITing Final Cut Pro Projects...

I'm trying to Share Final Cut Pro Projects between separate User Accounts. The originator of the Project saves to the Shared Folder, which should allow others to not only read, but Edit the files. Unfortunatley, the Scratch Files (video) within the Project always looses it's connection when the Second User connects and trys to edit the Project.
Is their an easy way to Share the Projects so that Others can both Read and Save Changes? Does the Second User always have to rename the file to get it to save back to the Shared Folder?
    Thanks for any Help! !

Hello and welcome to the forum.
It's always been my understanding that you could open a project created by FCE in FCP, but not the reverse. I fear you may be out of luck.

  • Video Editing (Final Cut Pro) and Processors

I am going to take the plunge and buy a new MacBook Pro. I want to load it up. But I have a question: Is the 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo THAT MUCH better than the 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo? It costs $300 more and I’m wondering if 0.27GHz makes such a significant ($300) difference — bearing in mind that I will be running Final Cut Pro, etc, and want the best I can get in strength and speed. But I don't want to blow $300 for window dressing that does not deliver. Bottom line: is an extra 0.27 GHz that significant or that much of a game changer?
    Thank you!!!
    Richard M.

You're better off getting the 2.66 and then loading it with 8GB RAM (if you can afford it)

  • Monitor To Support Final Cut Express

Colors on the computer screen are not the same as those that will appear on a TV screen after making a DVD (FCE and iDVD). I want, then, to add a monitor to help me make color, etc. corrections. What in particular should I consider when shopping for a name-brand LCD monitor? Aside from price, of course.
Assume: Size of 22 inches or so and HD videos in the future but not now. (1) Wouldn't 720, instead of 1080, be adequate?
    (2) Will I have to purchase color-correction software?
    (3) Is method of connection, computer to monitor, important?
    (4) What else is important?
    (5) As an aside, why ever buy other than a monitor? If one has a cable box, why pay for a tuner in a TV when a monitor can be plugged into the cable box?

    Hi Dave
    My thoughts - for what's it's worth.
I would (have) choosen to use a CTR-monitor. LCD varies to much.
I've connected Mac -> Camera (miniDV) -> TV-set. This worked for a long time.
Then I've now got a seconhanded 22" JVC referens monitor TM-2100E and
replaced the Camera with a CANOPUS ADVC-300 box.
This gives me a good view to judg outgoing quality.
For further development one might get some color-testing devices. But
this set-up is very up to my needs.

  • Useful for monitoring HDV in Final Cut Pro?

Here is a new blackmagic card for HD. Seems like this could be a cheaper way to monitor my FCP timeline. I normally edit HDV shows either natively of as AIC compressed. But I have to monitor it through the "desktop cinema preview" feature which doesn't show interlacing. So I don't really see the true picture I'm editing. This new card would seem to allow me to monitor on a modern consumer TV with HDMI input.
To good to be true?? Probably. What does anyone think?
    http://blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/
    Paul

It's made for capturing other than HDV directly from camera in a live situation... not tape. Once captured as something else, it can be used to send the HDMI to a consumer HD set. Once on tape though, it's HDV all the way. This thing is an odd duck piece of gear used for special setups.... it's not what you need.
What you need is a Matrox MXO, or capture card that will convert the HDV to uncompressed HD or SD for monitoring...

  • Editing Final Cut Pro X Metadata

I have tried to solve this problem for hours without success.
I have dozens of FCPX projects I have exported as .MOV files. I just realized that I have been failing to specify the Title, Author, Description, & Tag files when I export the files. (See picture of FCPX export window)
Unfortunately, I have too many videos to re-export all of them from FPCX. As a result, I need to figure out a way to edit the Title, Author, Description, & Tag fields embedded in the files.
At first, I thought the information was stored as ID3 Tag information. As a result, I imported the videos into iTunes and tried to edit the fields. Initially, it looked like it worked as the ID3tag information was updated within the file itself. (See picture of VLC Media Information window):
However, when I played the video in QuickTime, the old Title, Author, Description, & Tag were still being used. I highlighted the old tag information in the QuickTime image below.
This is particularly frustrating as the old Title information is displayed prominently on top of the QuickTime window. Moreover, when I went to Finder and used the "Get Info" command, the old tag data was still there as well. (See Finder window below)
I did some research and it looks like this information is NOT ID3 tags but rather is Spotlight metadata stored within the file itself (i.e. the Spotlight data is not in the hidden .DS_Store file). I ran a mdls command in terminal on the file and this is what it gives me (I've bolded the important information):
    mdls MFT0076-480p.mov

Does anyone have a clue how to edit the Title, Author, Description, & Tag fields after FCPX exports the movie? Any help would be very appricated.

You don't open it in the timeline. You edit it into the timeline. Just like FCP7.
I'm not at a machine now with FCP so I can't give you screenshots. Why don't you post screenshots of what you're seeing in the timeline?

  • Can i use windows laptop as a monitor with Final Cut Pro x

    Hi
I'm new to mac, and so far kicking myself for taking so long to come across.
As much as I hate my old dell xps 1647 laptop, it grates that this machine is just gathering dust.
Is there any way to utilise the monitor when using Final Cut Pro X

    you should ask Dell
can your laptop act as a monitor, does it come with any 'video-IN' option?
    I mostly doubt ...
Your Mac offers a standard DVI or VGA output, and allows Extended Desktop, to make use of added monitor space.
I like to put my Events in FCPX onto a 2nd display, connected to my old MacMini2.26 …

  • New imac with FInal cut studio?

    Hi everyone,
I am looking at getting one of the new imacs for video editing (Final cut studio 2). The specs for final cut are 4 gig of ram (for some applications in the bundle).
I wanted to know, do I have to buy my ram from apple when I buy my mac, or can i upgrade it myself? And if so, would the imac be upto the job? From what I can see there isn't much difference between the new imac and the macbook pro (which is what I was going to get).
Also, what if the difference in (laymans terms, please) in the intel duo and the intel duo extreme? Is it a big difference for editing, or not worth the extra money?
Also (apologies for all the questions, i have no where else to get the answers) - can you attatch another display - such as a monitor or laptop to the new macs for editing?
    Thanks.
    Lawrence

as with all iMac and Macbook computers, there is a complete lack of expansion capabilities beyond a single firewire bus.
most potential buyers rationlize their purchasing of a lessor machine based upon length of project, type of video, hoping to get by, pick your poison. this is short-sighted as it's irrelevant. video, no matter which flavor, is processor intensive.
what else will you do with your computer? will you hook up a printer, a scanner, external harddrives, a card reader, a tape machine, perhaps rs422 control? how will you monitor hdv properly? how will you monitor audio? will you wander into surround sound mixing?
the iMac is a great computer but beware, just because others have used it successfully doesn't mean it's the shoe that will fit your foot the best. as i said, the iMac is woefully inadequate for any sort of expansion beyond a single firewire bus.
    buyer beware.

  • Best way to show a "kiosk type" video done with final cut pro. Any ideas?

    Hi,
Was hoping to get some pro opinions (no pun intended) on the best way to send my edited final cut vid (png format for super clear text) to 32 inch monitors that will play them in the "store". We have 4 tvs, and they all need to show the video, and the sound (music) accompanying the video. The video is around 8 hours long (bunch of edited video clips to music) and will have to loop somehow. It's much too long for a dvd, as I want to keep the quality primo, so I was considering either a video ipod, or an actual computer. Just the ipod is so mall and frail (lol not really but around the people I work with it would be), and a computer might be overkill. Any ideas or opinions would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Benefit of of final cut pro X

It is the great future to see the mac to work while are you orking for another thing
    Background processing
As you edit, Final Cut Pro takes advantage of unused cycles in the background to execute a range of tasks, so you can be creative without interruption. Background processing includes rendering, transcoding, and moving media.
    Background process monitoring
Easily monitor the progress of background processes from the dashboard, so you always know what your multicore processors are doing. Or click to open the Background Tasks window and get a detailed display of active processes along with their progress. For complete control, you can manually pause or cancel any background process.
    Proxy creation
Create proxy media in the background, so you can work outside the edit studio without  copying large original files. Import once using high-quality master sources, then transfer lightweight proxies to your notebook for editing on the road. When you’re back in the office, just reconnect from proxy to original media and keep working at high resolution.
    Import layered Adobe Photoshop graphics
Import and keep all the object layers from a Photoshop file in a single Compound Clip so you can animate, colorize, and add effects to individual layers while editing in Final Cut
    Pro X.
    Content Auto-Analysis
Dramatically speed up your workflow by performing Content Auto-Analysis during import. Some options are designed to get processor-intensive analysis out of the way so you can work in real time during the edit. Because the analysis runs as a background process, you can keep editing to meet your deadline. Or analyze clips later to streamline specific tasks.

Funny thing ... I've been importing layered Photoshop files into FCP since version 2.  And yes, you could animate, colorize, and add effects to individual layers while editing.  So that's nothing new.
But you forgot the big benefit of FCP-X; it's cheap.  So now almost everyone can afford to buy it and output crap for youtube.
