LDAP (OID) search fails on binary data
Hi People,
I am trying to perform OID search with filter like this:
"(&(cn=test*)(usercertificate=*))" and getting error:
javax.naming.OperationNotSupportedException: [LDAP: error code 53 - Function Not Implemented]; remaining name ''
(if perform programmatically)
and
ldap_search: DSA is unwilling to perform
ldap_search: additional info: Function Not Implemented
(if use ldapsearch utility).
If I remove "(usercertificate=*)" part, everything works fine. I also works for any asterick combinations for text values.
Looks like it doesn't work only for underlying binary data.
Is it? Or I am wrong somewhere?
How to deal with it?
Did anybody else have this problem before?
Please help.
Thanks

I stumbled upon this one just recently...
(and it worked on e-Directory ldap ;))
It complains about this because attribute is not indexed. Look in the docs for Catalog Management tool (catalog.sh)

LDAP Contact searches failing via wireless
I am able to consistantly search our 10.5.7 Open Directory in Contacts via WiFi but rarely via AT&T Wireless, unless I enable our VPN. Same LDAP settings, different transport, different results.
I have confirmed remote LDAP access from another external host. I have verified our network firewall settings and the server firewall and emond/ipfw services. Using tcpdump on the network firewall and server confirms that my phone is not reaching the server.
Are there known issues with AT&T blocking or mishandling LDAP?LDAPeople also exhibited the same behavior. Since LDAPeople can be configured to use an alternate port, I configured LDAPeople to use port 3389 and our firewall to redirect port 3899 to 389 and observed the following.
LDAPeople was often able to initially connect on port 389 or 3899 on the server (let's just call it ldap.example.com), and continued to connect while the app was running, but quitting the app and restarting it intermittently resulted in a "Can't contact LDAP server" error. Using PortScan on the iPhone, I was unable to connect to either port 389 or 3899 on ldap.example.com.
I then used Safari on the iPhone to connect to the ldap.example.com:3899 and then was able to connect to ldap.example.com:3899 via LDAPeople and PortScan. This does not work with ldap.example.com:389 and Contacts, as Contacts is limited to port 389 and Safari uses WebKit which returns “Not allowed to use restricted network port” when accessing port 389; which is a programming decision, not an error.
During this time, I was monitoring the external interface of our firewall. I was able to observe connections from my iPhone (from nnn-nnn-nnn-nnn.mobile.mymmode.com) to ldap.example.com when LDAPeople and PortScan were able to connect, and observed no traffic when they could not.
It appears that AT&T is inspecting and blocking certain types of traffic dependent upon application but independent of port number. My iPhone is not on an Enterprise Data Plan, but I am unaware of LDAP being limited by this. -
"Failed to update binary data in the database".
Hi,
we will get this message ("Failed to update binary data in the database".) when one of our customers want to install our add-on in one specific server.
they got a copy of their database and put in another computer and could install add-on. but they can not install add-on on their main server.
please advice me.Hi Senthil,
Thanks for your consideration,
They checked and they dont have any record in SARI table related to R1. they have one record for XLR only.
This problem is only on one specific server.
Do you have any other idea? Please help us.

Hi,
I'm trying to develop a JSP that returns binary data in the form of a jpeg image.
I found this on google where one of the replies correctly states that to be compliant I need to use XML JSPs:
http://www.caucho.com/quercus/faq/question.xtp?question_id=1005
This is what I am now doing but I am getting exceptions about:
"java.lang.IllegalStateException: getOutputStream() has already been called for this response"
I have traced this to be on the very last line of the blah_jsp.java file created by tomcat:
"if (_jspxFactory != null) _jspxFactory.releasePageContext(pageContext);".
My code looks like this:
<jsp:root xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page" version="1.2">
<jsp:directive.page contentType="image/jpeg" />
<jsp:declaration><![CDATA[ .... ]]></jsp:declaration>
<jsp:scriptlet><![CDATA[
try {
updateImage();
response.getOutputStream().write( apodImageData );
} catch (Exception e) {
out.println( e.toString() );
StringWriter sr = new StringWriter();
e.printStackTrace( new PrintWriter( sr ) );
out.println( sr.toString() );
]]></jsp:scriptlet>
</jsp:root>
Any ideas? Is there a way to stop the container produced java file from tampering with out? Obviously my code is working but the final line of the container produced code is failing because I've manually been using result.getOutputStream().
Any ideas?Have just found this after many hours of searching:
http://www.mooreds.com/weblog/archives/000018.html
The upshot is that TC4 is non compliant in this area, TC5 is fixed.. -
Hello,
Search fails (returns no result).
The example file I was trying to search inside is
http://www.delphicyclometers.com/assets/pdfs/Blackburn_456_FR.pdf
If I copy some text from Acrobat and paste it in some text editor, I only get question marks.
Screen capture:
http://static.zooomr.com/images/6282650_5e514ff21a_o.png
I use Acrobat 9 Pro and Windows Vista.
There is probably something wrong in my configuration, but what?
Thanks for any help.
Regards,
GerardI suspect the problem comes from the same root, the fonts. The fonts are embedded and are used by Acrobat for viewing, but if you copy them the clipboard indicates that it is a binary stream. Thus, when you are searching for the data, the search and the font format do not line up. That is not a configuration issue, but a font issue used in the PDF. I don't thing there is anything you can do about it. Enjoy the manual, but you will have to probably read it as was original intended by those who wrote it, not search it with Acrobat. A pain, but that's life.

I am facing a strange SQL exception:-
The code flow is like this:
.Net 4.0 --> Entity Framework --> SQL 2008 ( StoredProc --> Function {Exception})
In the SQL Table-Valued Function, I am selecting a column (nvarchar(50)) from an existing table and (after some filtration using inner joins and where clauses) inserting the values in a Table Type Object having a column (nvarchar(50))
This flow was working fine in SQL 2008 but now all of sudden the Insert into @TableType is throwing "string or binary data would be truncated" exception.
Insert Into @ObjTableType
Select * From dbo.Table
The max length of data in the source column is 24 but even then the insert statement into nvarchar temp column is failing.
Moreover, the same issue started coming up few weeks back and I was unable to find the root cause, but back then it started working properly after few hours
(issue reported at 10 AM EST and was automatically resolved post 8 PM EST). No refresh activity was performed on the database.
This time however the issue is still coming up (even after 2 days) but is not coming up in every scenario. The data set, for which the error is thrown, is valid and every value in the function is fetched from existing tables.
Due to its sporadic nature, I am unable to recreate it now :( , but still unable to determine why it started coming up or how can i prevent such things to happen again.
It is difficult to even explain the weirdness of this bug but any help or guidance in finding the root cause will be very helpful.
I also Tried by using nvarchar(max) in the table type object but it didn't work.
Here is a code similar to the function which I am using:

I have tried by converting the columns and also validated the input data set for any white spaces or special characters.
For the same input data, it was working fine till yesterday but suddenly it started throwing the exception.Remember, the CTE isn't executing the SQL exactly in the order you read it as a human (don't get too picky about that statement, it's at least partly true enough to say it's partly true), nor are the line numbers or error messages easy to read: a mismatch
in any of the joins along the way leading up to your insert could be the cause too. I would suggest posting the table definition/DDL for:
- PSMetadata, in particular PSRowID, but just post it all
- tblProjectSur, in particularcolumns CSymbID and TblProjSurSurID
- cSymbLookup, in particular column CSymbID
- PSRow, in particular columns SampleRowID, PID,
- PSAuser and PSUserSur, in particualr all the USERID and RowID columns
- SurCSymbs, in particular colum SIDs
Also, a diagnostic query along these lines, repeat for each of your tables, each of the columns used in joins leading up to your insert:
Select count(asurv.sid) as count all
, count(case when asurv.sid between 0 and 9999999999 then 1 else null end) as ctIsaNumber
from SurvCsymb
The sporadic nature would imply that the optimizer usually chooses one path to the data, but sometimes others, and the fact that it occurs during the insert could be irrelevant, any of the preceding joins could be the cause, not the data targeted to be inserted. -
Hi all,
Has anyone come across SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU8/9 failing to install with a “Failed to retrieve data for this request.” error.
The error is too generic for a useful search on web, for me at least anyway.
Had no problems patching a whole bunch of other servers in the same environment.
I’m no good at reading these error logs. For some reason the primary replica is referenced in the detailed log???
The CU8/9 patch has been run by both Domain Admins and local Admin with no luck.
We are trying to patch a secondary failover replica. (SharePoint 2013 is installed on this server.)
This is from the summary log:

IMO I strongly feel it is issue with the account. Microsoft has also documented about this for SQL Server 2008 .Have a look at following links

Please also assign privilege mentioned in below link

Hope this helps

ENDYou can search the forums for that error message and find previous discussions - they all boil down to the same problem. Somewhere in your query that calls this function, the code invoked implicitly converts from string to date/datetime. In general,
this works in any version of sql server if the runtime settings are correct for the format of the string data. The fact that it works in one server and not in another server suggests that the query executes with different settings - and I'll assume for
the moment that the format of the data involved in this conversion is consistent within the database/resultset and consistent between the 2 servers.
I suggest you read Tibor's guide to the datetime datatype (via the link to his site below) first - then go find the actual code that performs this conversion. It may not be in the function you posted, since that function also executes other functions.
You also did not post the query that calls this function, so this function may not, in fact, be the source of the problem at all.

Oracle 9.2.0.8 Binary Data Problem
Hi Folks,
need some advice from the experts here about an error I got yesterday while installing a (Java-based) Software at a customer using Oracle 9.2.0.8.
While being able to work with the database most of the time, I get an error when trying to save binary data. Unfortunately I don't have access to the DB-logs, so I hope the log I have may raise a thought or two from anybody and that may help me bring some light into the darkness I'm poking in at the moment.

I searched around and got some results about
- codepage: The DBA told me that the DB is using "cp1252", so I tried to use both ISO-8859-1 and UTF-8 (both are supported by the application)
- Session Management: Tried to raise/decrease the limits for idle/maximum connections and the DBA told me to set the parameter "SESSION_CACHED_CURSORS=0", but unfortunately this is not possible when using a connection URL "jdbc:oracle:thin:@..."
So... if anybody has an idea what to check or ask the DBA to change or almost anything, I'd kindly welcome the feedback.
Thanks,
enniHi Sybrand,
thank you for your clarification for the codepage!
And no, I don't think that I found a new issue, just wasn't able to find a good answer on the net and after trying to get an evaluation copy (just for the install and first tests) of Oracle 9, the support told me "No way.".
And yes, you're definitely right, it should be buried.
But we all know that there are companies out there that allow new applications tests on thier "good'old" DB. Guess that is exactly what happens here.
Maybe somebody else reads this and had similiar problems in the past, so I keep this "open" for just some more time.
Thanks,
have a good time!

Hello,
I am trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. I get the error bellow (Database Services Engine Failed, SQL Server Replication Failed, Full Text Search Failed, Reporting Services Failed). I already have a copy of SQL Server 2008 R2 on the machine.
I want to create a new named instance of SQL Server for some software I'm installing.
The error is below.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

If you see error descriptioon it gives access denied so basically it is because of some access issue.I guess You must be using some domin account for installation make sure it is added as local administrator also instead of using NT Authority network
service as SQL server service account use local system account .
Below link would help
http://serverfault.com/questions/212135/access-is-denied-error-installing-sql-server-2008-on-windows-7
You can also browse to setup.exe file and RK on it and select run as administrator

Writing binary data to a file without carriage returns every 512 bytes
Is there a VI for writing binary data to a file without carriage returns being inserted every 512 bytes?
ThanksHi Momolxg,
I could be way off on this. I tried to simulate what you've done by
making a for loop that would run a set number of times. For my example I
used 1025. I wired the iteration terminal to a 'Write to SGL File.vi'
outside the loop with indexing enabled. It wrote the SGL data from 0 to
1024 to the file. I then read the file with a 'Read Characters from
File.vi' and searched the output for a carriage return (0D hex). It was
found five times. The reason why was the SGL number it was reading had a
13 (0D hex) in it. Perhaps you're running into a similar problem?
I tried it again, this time using the 'Write to I16 File.vi'. The
carriage return was found five times: the 28th character the first time
then on the 512th character four consecutive time
s after that. I suppose
that makes sense that you'd find a 0D in the numbers at equal spacings if
they're incrementing this way... In this case the carriage returns you're
seeing are actually numbers from your data.
One big difference is that I'm using a set pattern of numbers. This
doesn't appear to be your case. Is there a better way we can duplicate
your problem? It sounds interesting. Again my simulation could be way
off. (I'm also running this on LV60 for Linux so my results could be
different)

LDAP (OID) integration with java appilcation
OID issue Urgent
Currently we are using the OID-LDAP as the repository for storing username, passwds
and other attributes. All applications that need authentication will essentially
be using the OID.
In our effort to do the same we are encountering the following problems
- Creation of an identity corresponding the application
- Giving this identity certain LDAP authorizations (Which authorizations are these)
We have been successful creating LDAP entries for users and getting the initial
JNDI contexts to do the lookups.
When we are creating the user lookup from java code using oracle.ldap.util.User pakage ,
at the run time it's throwing error(no classfound oracle/net/config/ConfigException ).
why and where this is needed and how to resolve that. is that because we haven't added
the application in oid and configured authorizations for it.
Need an urgent answer to this since all applications will be using LDAP(OID).
here is code of java which tries to connect to OID.

Encoding problem while reading binary data from MQ-series
Dear all,
we are running on 7.0 and we have an encoding problem while reading binary data from MQ-series. Because we are getting flat strings from queue we use module "Plain2ML" (MessageTransformBean) for wrapping xml-elements around the incoming data.
The MQ-Series-Server is using CCSID 850, which we configured in connection parameters in communication channel (both parameters for Queuemanager CCSID and also CCSID of target).If there are special characters in the message (which HEX-values differ from codepage to codepage) we get errors in our adapter while executing, please see stack-trace for further analysis below.
It seems to us that
1. method ByteToCharUTF8.convert() expects UTF-8 in binary data
2. Both CCSID parameters are not used anyway in JMS-adapter
How can we solve this problem without changing anything on MQ-site?
Here is the stack-trace:

Kind regards, StefanHi Stefan,
for the first MTB now we are using only one parameter: Transform.ContentType = text/plain;charset="ISO-8859-1"
The second MTB, which does the XML-Wrapping, is configured like this:
Transform.Class = com.sap.aii.messaging.adapter.Conversion
Transform.ContentType = application/xml
xml.conversionType = SimplePlain2XML
xml.fieldNames = value
xml.fieldSeparator = §%zulu§%
xml.processFieldNames = fromConfiguration
xml.structureTitle = payload
Both CCSID configuration parameters from the "Source"-Tab we've set to 850.
Now, we don't get an error anymore - sun.io.malformedInputException - , but, unfortunately, now special character conversion succeeded (we need an "ß" and we get an ISO-HEX-E1 -> á). E1 is (different from ISO) an "ß" in 850.
Any ideas? -
Hi
I am getting some errors in the binary data I am reading over a serial link using the vi attached.
The vi removes the first seven characters (which are not part of the data string) then converts the binary data to an array of unsigned 16 bit integers.
There is a regular pattern to the error- every 10th number in the array has an error.
I am very confused and was wondering if anybody has experienced a similar problem.
Many thanks
Ash

Read binary data.vi 87 KBHi,
so are you saying that if you set the instrument you're talking to to return the hex data as ascii versions (i.e. the text "002D" = a 4 byte transmit, rather than 002D a 2byte transmit (or two characters) you get the correct expected data?
As we can see from the data you've included, the 00's are there in the actual original data set, which I'm guessing is why Altenbach was asking if that was the numbers you were expecting.
The start of your actual read string is (using the slash code view) \r\nbin,\00\00,v$v\16 so to get to the first element, you need to skip the first 8 characters to be left at the ,v as the first word you're dealing with. You're currently skipping to position 7 which is \00, or 44 in hex as a word.
Is the ,v definitely the first word, or is it the v$ or the \00v and if you say that the message is
bin,<first word msb><first word lsb>...<last word lsb><CR>
then you should probably do a search for "bin," and work from the offset instead. That means your first two data elements would be 00 (or 0 as a word) then the ,v
The alternative would be to assume the \r\n on the end, and stipr that off the message. Reverse the string, and then typecast. Swap the byte order in the array of U16's, and then reverse the array again. Sounds like you're not gaining anything, but if the instrument definitely transmist as you have put it, then you would be guaranteeing the integrity of the message in words (2 bytes). (When I did this on your message, I got the same as your strip method of pulling off the first 7 elements)
Would that make more sense? What is the source of the message?
Thanks
