Learning to create UI

I've been doing programming in VB before, and I've been using Lua, and now I'm learning java for school. The tasks we have got at school so far have been really easy, just "show a message dialog with this and that text and two multiplied numbers", and I want to learn how to create real programs, with UI.
I'm using JBuilder now, because JBuilder was the only program I could get working, I couldn't get the Sun compiler to work properly.
Anyway, JBuilder REALLY sux at making UIs... Atleast compared to all other IDEs I've tried for any other programming language.
So, I need some help at how to create the UI manually with codes.
Does anyone know of some good website where this could be easy to learn? Since the school is not teaching us about UI, they dont have any useful files on the subject. I've been trying some by myself to find any useful websites, but I dont know exactly what to search for. "programming java" doesn't give me alot of useful hits:p

Also, Jbuilder isn't the best, your right there.
eclipse http://www.eclipse.org/ is nearly an industry standard (I know some people will disagree with that comment) so might be worth having a go playing around with that.
Also I used http://www.jcreator.com/ in college, nothing flash, but did the job and would run on a calculator it's so small.

Learning to create a cooking recipe App

I would like to learn how to create a Mac app for managing cooking recipes similar to MacGourmet. Over the years I have used many Windows and Mac cooking programs. Most are good but I would like to assemble features I prefer. I assume it must be database driven. I know how to write websites (but not javascript) using Dreamweaver and I took a few SQL classes years ago. I do enjoy working with computers. With Lion coming soon, I would like to learn using the latest OS. Eventually I would like to distribute and perhaps sell my program.
I must wait until the upcoming fall semester to enroll in any college courses. I thought about starting at lynda.com with Objective-C Essential Training or perhaps a few books.
Any help to get started would be appreciated. Thank you.

SAP Learning Solution - Creating Tests (Authoring Environment)

1. How can one change the background of a test to another colour to change the look and feel?
2. How does on create a test that is displayed, one question per screen and then a next/continue button to proceed to the next question.

Please let me know the tables where this Learning Nets will be stored.. and also how to get the learning nets from Master Repository to the relevant tables (Necessary Configurations)

We only installed LSO 200 and now we are upgrading to LSO 600. I am not sure if it is all the same. I do not know of tables that is updated with the learning net info; according to me it is only on the server and Content Manager.
When you release a learning net, it gives you an option to tick a box to publish it after the release; see below:

Learning to create ebooks/kindle

Hi, I am still using CS5 (master suite) and want to learn how to create ebooks -- particularly kindle, from start to finished product ready to upload. I don't really know where to start. Is there a book or course that can be recommended? Can I do it with the programs in CS5, or do I need a plug in or upgrade?
I am not ready to go to adobe cloud yet, as the cost far outweighs any need or desire I may have right now to access current features.

The Amazon.com negative mentions of InDesign are probably written by coders. They want to hand-code it all themselves. You'll see similar comments about Dreamweaver or any program that assists in creating code.
In fact, InDesign has continued to improve its EPUB export with every version since CS5, and will again in InDesign CC.
But if you get serious about it, you'll have to upgrade to a later version of InDesign than CS5, where many "hacks" and "workarounds" are necessary. And you'll have to learn a bit about editing CSS as well.

How to learn and create animation with CC

I need to learn 2D animation to tell stories and lessons on the web. Which apps doI need to learn in CC and where do I start?
I have to say that for a beginner, there is little information on which app does what in CC. I'm talking about without jargon a beginner wouldn't know. Lots of lovely videos praising CC etc. but nothing that says "If you want to create a basic animation use these and start with this one, then to add more setup to this because it adds this and that". At least as far as I can find. I know Creative Cloud is aimed at the professionals., but still, clearer explanations of which app does what would be very nice. Instead you have to click on each one and try to figure out if it does what you are looking for. It would be nice to have groupings, also, like for animations, use these and what each one does. I'll probably be told it doesn't work that way, but justI had to ask.

Here are also a couple of tutorials to get you started. You have to learn a few topics to create a web application.
Microsoft has recommended that beginners/non-professionals start using WebMatrix as a web editor. You could look at samples based on that with Razor or instead use Visual Studio as an editor. Here are some free training videos from PluralSight to get you

Adobe must learn to create free software!!!

I love and respect Adobe a lot, but what I don't understand is the fact that, Adobe want to charge for every single thing they do. Personally, I believe software like Muse should be open source and it'll proberbly get bigger than any other free web creation software. I believe they can still make money if they make it free and allow a community to grow it. A lot of companies do it and still make money.
I love Muse, but I'll never choose it over an open source software that has a CMS feature...

Moving products like MUSE into the open source community might be a good move for Adobe, but I wouldn't extend that out to their products like After Effects and Photoshop.
Professionally I'm a clinical systems integrator. The hospital I work for uses an open source Integration Engine known as Mirth. Its an excellent engine and I've only seen one commercial product that comes even remotely close to it (Iguana).
Here's the rub, Mirth Corp makes their money through selling support. We pay aprroximately $15,000 annually for support, and while the Mirth community at large is very helpful, its well worth the money when I need an answer to something quickly.
My point here is that open source as a business model requires people who are willing to either donate money, or pay for things like support and add ons.
The Subscription as a Service model with Creative Cloud is awesome. It allows hobbyists like myself to enter a whole new world of productivity.

Where to learn how to create a "virtual book"

i am very new in ABAP. I want to create a Transaction/view in SAP BW where i can put my favourite Abap reports and tables and execute These directly from the created view/Transaction without se16/se11 or se38 Access and dont know if this is possible and how to do it.

So you try to bypass security checks put in place by the Basis team
or could you explain your requirement ?
Remember (or learn) that creating such transaction, you are able to bypass following authorization checks using SU24 (Identity Management, User and Role Administration of Application Server ABAP, AS ABAP Authorization Concept, From the Programmed Authorization Check to a Role, Editing Authorization Default Data (Development System) / Editing Authorization Default Data (Customer System). )

Create DB Script error

Hello,
i am trying to perform my first manual creation of a database. Initially was always receiving error;
ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced
I think this was because the UNDO element in the init.ora file did not match UNDO element in the Create DB script. But now that i think i have them matching i continously receive the error;
'Invalid Create Command'
The UNDO element in the init.ora file is;

Thanks for everyone’s advice, but nothing so far seems to create the database. I could initially create a database with the Database Configuration Assistant no problem but have been asked to learn to create one manually as it supposedly gives better control of the parameters etc.
I am using Oracle 9i.
Next here is the undo elements in init file. (I don't think i can put whole init file up)

Also, now after all these attempts I tried making a new database again using DB Configuration Assistant and it now asks me to specify a template of type data_warehousing when I clicked on General_purpose. It states template file specified does not exist, supplying the following information;

Help Learning Flash

I have no experience in Flash nor anything that even closely
relates to or carries over in any way (Although I am not stupid...
:) ). I have learned how to do many things within Flash in the past
couple days, however I am having trouble learning to create buttons
to navigate around the flash document. Let me describe what I am
doing, then feel free to offer any feedback as I may be going about
the entire process wrong.
What I am doing is creating a tutorial for an encounter for a
game I play. This tutorial will contain about 5 different sections
each of which is a screens worth of data. I have created little
flash movies that run little animations (ok... yeah... like 1...
but like I said... I only started using Flash a few days ago...).
This method would work for this other project if I could create
buttons or links to different points on the time line. So currently
I have a flash document that starts as a Title Page with some
animated content then this basically morphs into an overview page
with more content and animation and this process continues to chain
from one section like this to another. What would be nice is to
have links on the overview page that allow the user to choose which
section to jump to if they want. Then to have control buttons to
advance to the next section, pause, and go back to the overview
page.
Now I also thought that maybe I could create different scenes
and just jump to these different scenes. I have been able to create
a series of scenes that would work for this purpose, however when
it comes to creating the buttons I am at ground zero...
Well... ok, not exactly ground Zero... I can make a button...
modify its different states... but I don't see how to tell it how
to do anything other than link to a web site... certainly no kind
of linking within the document. I have found tutorials on
controlling Video but those are off topic and useless to me...
The animated elements are some moving text, an animated Gif,
and things changing in size, color, alpha and so forth all done on
the time line with motion tweens, transformations and transitions.
I hope I have been descriptive enough and am not looking for
anyone to write me a walk through, a simple point in the right
direction to help I can find for myself would be excellent.

Alright... I am very proud of myself and have figured out how
to make these buttons and get them to work... now I just had to add
some complexity... let me just share how I am setting up my buttons
now and what added element I want and see what we can do...
First I place an image on the stage and convert it to a Movie
Clip then I create the following for Actionscript 3

This works fantastically... but I wanted to have a transition
from scene to scene that had some flow and was efficient... so I
added 10 frames to my starting point as a transition out of that to
a generic state that I can pickup and stage for whatever I want...
So what I am after now is the ability to play 10 frames in my
current scene then jump to and play the intended scene... here is
what I have tried...
