Legend customization howto....

hi everybody,
i have the need for a project i'm involved in, to customize the legend items of a plot with significative names retrived from a configuration file. I've thought to use property node but no method is defined to do that. Does anybody holds a solution or an alternate way to achive this goal?
Thanks a lot for your answer
Max (Rome/ITALY)

Max,
I think Mache's advice is still the correct advice. See attached image of block diagram demonstrating how to programmatically modify the plot name (the one in the legend) and the plot line style of two plots on a graph. The technique here relies on the fact that property nodes are executed top-to-bottom in LabVIEW, so first the properties of Plot 0 are set, then the properties of Plot 1.
If you feed "Relative Humidity" to one of those Plot.Name inputs on the property node, you'll see that the plot legend updates accordingly.
Take care,
John

  • Plot legend customization bug in 8.5?

    If someone can confirm this for me, I would appreciate it.
    I have 2 issues which I think may be based on the same problem:
    1.  Take the attached control and insert into a LV 7.1 - 8.2 VI.  The plot legend should have the system box instead of the 3D decoration.  Insert the same control into 8.5.  It changes back to the default 3D decoration.  This doesn't appear to happen all the time, as this control properly inserts itself into 8.5.
    2.  The customization of the plot legend is not working properly.  Take any of the attached controls, or use a standard Waveform Graph.  Customize it.  Go into customize mode.  8.5 has taken away the old method where you can simply right click on a decoration of a sub-control and replace it.  But, you can select the sub-control and go to Edit->Customize Control, then replace the decoration.  You can see this works with the Cursor list and axes list.  However, when you select the plot legend, and go to Edit->Customize, LV doesn't do anything.  No error beep, no nothing.  So the plot legend cannot be customized.  I see this behavior for charts, grpahs, and XY plots.

    OK, I will post more pictures.
    So, I try to customize the standard waveform graph in LV, but right-clicking on the plot and select Advanced-> Customize or Edit->Customize Control form the menu.  Go into Customize mode.
    In 8.2 and before, you used to be able to just right-click on the decoration for the plot legend and replace it with something from the clipboard, etc.
    In 8.5, this functionality has been removed.
    However, you can select the item and go to Edit->Customize Control (I show it here for the cursor legend, as it works).  You get a new control window.

  • Graph Legend Customization

    I have a line graph showing 3 lines with different values on each line. My legend shows all 3 lines. Now one of the lines is null throughout the graph, but the legend still shows all 3 lines.
    Any way to have the legend not show a value when it's null and doesn't even appear on the graph?
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • How to suppress bars on chart and customize legend text

    I am new to Crystal Reports and have a couple of questions about bar charts.  I am using Crystal Reports XI Release 2 with Developer Studio 2005 (C# .NET) and SQL Server.
    I have a very simple report that sums up the values of 14 different database columns.  There is a also a bar chart to display the summed values.
    My questions are:
    1.  Based on some user preferences, I may not want to display all 14 values.  I found how to Suppress fields on the report, but cannot figure out how to prevent them from appearing in the bar chart as well.
    2.  Can I customize the names of the bars in the legend?
    Any help will be great appreciated!

    Please re-post if this is still an issue to the .NET Development - Crystal Reports Forum or purchase a case and have a dedicated support engineer work with you directly

  • Customize Legend in Crystal report 2008

    How do I customize the Legend in crystal report 2008. I want to change the legend text in print preview mode but I am not able to open the chart in preview mode as it is asking for a XML path but I am not using any XML file . Is there any other way to change the legend text ?

    Not clear what you are doing? Is this an application you wrote?
    Legend text is what you defined in the Group.
    Change the Group header then you have your change.

  • Customize plot legend

    Hello all, I am trying to customize a plot legend. Changing the color to transparent gets me only to the point where the pseudo-3d effect of the surrounding box is gone. How do I get rid of the hole around the plot sample in the legend? I want it to look like a simple plot with, at most, a box around the entire legend. Thank you very much.

    Hello asche,
    I justed tested it:
    I can make everything transparent, so that you only see the text and the line of the legend...
    I only used the color tool to do so.
    Oh wait: to remove the box around the line style of the legend you have to make the border of the
    graph display transparent. It seems to use the same setting: graph fore- and background is the same
    like legend plot style... I made a picture to show this behaviour.
    So it seems that NI has to change a setting in LabView for the next version...

  • Customize columns in performance view legends

    When we create performance view, it has two panes. Top pane contains the chart or graph and bottom pane contains the legends. The legends have column like show, color, Path, Target, Rule etc. I have couple of questions regarding legends pane:
    1. Can we customize the legends columns name. For example can we hide or rename the column?
    2. Can we change the position of columns?

  • OSB HowTo: Adding an endpoint using the customization file.

    Hi Guys,
    I want to add a new endpoint URL using the OSB customization file. My use case is, that we have single endpoints in the test environment but multiple (cluster) endpoints in the integration environment. So I though i can use the following Snippet to do so:
    <cus:envValueAssignments>
         <xt:envValueType>Service URI</xt:envValueType>
         <xt:location>1</xt:location>
         <xt:owner>
              <xt:type>BusinessService</xt:type>
              <xt:path>service/BusinesService</xt:path>
         </xt:owner>
         <xt:value xsi:type="xs:string" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">http://myAdditionalClusterURL</xt:value>
    </cus:envValueAssignments>
    But I get the Error: "URI index 1 is not valid" which makes perfect sense. It is invalid, because I want to ADD and not EDIT it.
    So my question is, what is the right approach to achieve this.
    Kind Regards

    Hi,
    You have to add the new endpoint in "SERVICES URI TABLE":
    <cus:envValueAssignments>
    <xt:envValueType>Service URI Table</xt:envValueType>
    <xt:location xsi:nil="true"/>
    <xt:owner>
    <xt:type>BusinessService</xt:type>
    <xt:path>YOUR_BUSINESS_PATH</xt:path>
    </xt:owner>
    <xt:value xmlns:tran="http://www.bea.com/wli/sb/transports">
    <tran:tableElement>
    <tran:URI>endpoint_0</tran:URI>
    <tran:weight>1</tran:weight>
    </tran:tableElement>
    <tran:tableElement>
    <tran:URI>http://myAdditionalClusterURL</tran:URI>
    <tran:weight>0</tran:weight>
    </tran:tableElement>
    </xt:value>
    </cus:envValueAssignments>
    The configuration plan must contain all endpoints, new and previously endpoint added.
    Regards.

    Hi Mark,
    You can change the plot line type, color and other properties using Property Nodes. To use Property Nodes, you first create a reference to the Front Panel object by right clicking the plot then selecting Create -> Reference. You can then wire a Property Node to the Plot Reference on the Block Diagram and modify the selected properties. Please see the below links for more information on Properties Nodes.

  • Custom Formatting Of Chart Legends

    I've been playing with Flex Charting, and I have lots of nice
    looking graphs that I've created from database feeds. However, what
    I really want to know how to do is format the chart legend better.
    For example I have a pie chart that has about 50 different data
    items/series and the legend is huge in either horizontal or
    vertical mode it prints all the way down the page. How can I make
    it two, three or more columns?

    Hi Justin,
    I think, there is no way to do such a customization with the standard Javadoc (i.e. powered by the Standard Doclet).
    After all, the job of the standard Javadoc is doing standard (general) things and I just cannot imagine any general rule (setting or option) that would embrace all kinds of possible customizations about displaying of annotations.
    So, the only way in your situation would be to modify the doclet itself. You can try tweaking the standard doclet: overload some its classes or change sources (according to the license they provide). However, I just can say, that way proved to have lots of limitations.
    Fortunately, I could suggest you a different rote that would allow you solving your problem in a few minutes. We have a product called "DocFlex/Javadoc":
    http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_javadoc/
    This is a highly customizable Javadoc doclet. More exactly, this is a system for rapid development of professional quality doclets (with the support of both framed/single-file HTML and RTF output).
    With that tool, the generation of every sort of Javadoc output is programmed in special templates (using graphic Template Designer). The product is provided with the "standard template set" that generates the HTML Java API documentation very similar to the standard Javadoc.
    In fact, to solve you task, you will need to modify a subtemplate called "annotations.tpl". See on this page: http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_javadoc/templates.php
    If you are interested about all this, we could help you to modify the necessary template absolutely free. Then, you will need only to buy a full product license to have everything work without limitations and that will be all!
    So, if you are interested, please let us know by sending a e-mail to the address found on this page:

  • [SOLVED] XFCE customize menu help: applications and directory menu

    I've been trying to make some progress with customizing XFCE menus. There are two menus I'm trying to create, listed below.
    Yes, i have read http://wiki.xfce.org/howto/customize-menu
    No, I'm not saying I understood all of it.
    1. I want to have a custom Applications menu that lists all installed applications, without categorization. Preferably alphabetical. I'm guessing it has a lot to do with adding a lot of <include> directives.

    2. I want to make a different Directory menu, possibly by implicating a custom Applications menu. If I could locate the .menu file for the Directory menu panel item, I would like to make minor adjustments to the menu, and invoke it through the Applications menu panel item.
    I should state that what I'm trying to accomplish is
    a) to remove the submenu-like options with the Directory menu (open Folder, open in Terminal) to have one-click to open the folder directory
    b) to add a label next to the panel icon (aesthetics), which would be accomplished through using the Applications menu panel item.
    Edit: clarity
    Last edited by heyitstallchris (2014-07-31 02:02:36)

    Firstly, I'll tackle menu 1.
    No need to create an include line for every .desktop file. Do the following:
    $ mkdir ~/.config/menus
    $ cd ~/.config/menus
    $ touch custom-apps.menu
    Edit the file we have just created and populate it with the following:
    <!DOCTYPE Menu PUBLIC "-//freedesktop//DTD Menu 1.0//EN"
    "http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/menu-spec/1.0/menu.dtd">
    <Menu>
    <Name>Applications</Name>
    <DefaultAppDirs/>
    <DefaultDirectoryDirs/>
    <DefaultMergeDirs/>
    <Include>
    <Category>X-Xfce-Toplevel</Category>
    <Category>Settings</Category>
    <Category>Accessibility</Category>
    <Category>Core</Category>
    <Category>Legacy</Category>
    <Category>Utility</Category>
    <Category>Development</Category>
    <Category>Education</Category>
    <Category>Game</Category>
    <Category>Graphics</Category>
    <Category>Audio</Category>
    <Category>Video</Category>
    <Category>AudioVideo</Category>
    <Category>Network</Category>
    <Category>Office</Category>
    <Category>System</Category>
    </Include>
    <Layout>
    <Merge type="all"/>
    </Layout>
    </Menu>
    Now just create an application menu panel item and point it to the custom menu file we just created.
    This will display every application installed on your system, and any custom .desktop entries you may create (as long as they are set in one of the categories in the menu file). Add or remove categories as you need.
    If you want to have the "Run Program" and other "Action" items that are in the default Xfce menu, add a category line for "X-Xfce-Toplevel"
    Alternatively, you can forego all the <Category></Category> lines and simply use <All/>
    [EDIT] and since this is using garcon (Xfce's menu library), the apps will be in alphabetical order [/EDIT]
    Cheers.

    Windows 8/8.1 Metro mode doesn't have a "minimize switch" as Desktop mode, but we have alternative settings
    when you want to minimize your metro app, just click the left-bottom corner
