Lenovo Y50-70: safe to update?

I have the Y50-70 with Win 8.1. Is it safe for me to update to Windows 10 with the free update icon on my taskbar? And is it then safe for me to do a clean install of Windows 10? Do I have to do anything beforehand to make sure everything goes okay? I have never done an OS upgrade like this so I just want to make sure nothing will break my laptop. I will of course back up any important files before trying anything.

I have just updated to this BIOS, still on Win 8.1 but preparing for move to Win 10. Following update to 9ECN40WW, mostly working OK, except the browser. I use 64 bit browser Cyberfox, and I am now missing the browser box, I do have the search box, and on the download arrow, it does not show coloured (green) as files are downloaded. Also, when I look at customising the toolbar, (additional tools and features), that screen now is completely blank. I have cleared cache, and reinstalled browser, but this has not corrected the problem. Is there a bug in BIOS 9ECN40WW? How do II find and load a previous BIOS, as a search seems to display only the currently available BIOS? Also how do I communicate this to Lenovo, as they seem not to answer their support phone linein the UK?

  • Lenovo Y50-70 screen problem

Hello. Recently, i have bought the Lenovo Y50-70 laptop and it seems that there is some screen problem. I have a feeling that it does flicker sometimes (1-2 per hour, sometimes more). Firstly, I thought that the backlight changes for a second, but then, after more observation, it might be it turning off and on immediately, or the colours fade and return to normal. I can't say for sure, what it is, because it happens very quickly, but the eye catches it anyway and it is kind of annyoing. Moreover, once the screen went completely crazy, it started to turn off and on every 2-3 seconds, big portions of view weren't even displayed, and what wasn't displayed changed every time it turned off and on. There were also green and red dots moving all over, mouse was moving in slowmotion (like I were playing a game in 15 fps). Only the restart helped and it stopped. So the question is, what is wrong and what am I supposed to do? Sorry, if the english is bad, but it isn't my native language.

I live in South Africa. Bought the notebook on 14 July 2015, within 2 weeks I started experiencing the screen flickering and grey lines. I was told by Lenovo to roll back drivers, then update drivers etc. - nothing worked. I returned the laptop to the supplier who in turn sent it to Lenovo. Lenovo has offered to replace the unit. I am hesitant to accept another unit and am thinking of rather getting a refund so that I can buy an Acer Aspire V Nitro (same specs). My previous laptop was an Acer and did not give me a day's trouble. Don't bother trying to update drivers or open the screen to plug it into the motherboard etc. I think the issue is a power supply one and that Lenovo should do a recall of this product. I am just thankful that South Africa has consumer law which forces a supplier to replace, repair or refund a defective product within 6 months from purchase if the consumer wants - so they can't simply repair, if I want a refund, they must give me one. Good luck! PS: This was my first and last Lenovo product!

If Lenovo or MIcrosoft can provide an update to the driver it may work. This might be ongoing with Microsoft or Lenovo. Why not install the optional windows update KB3035583 so that you will see if your unit will qualify later if the taskbar icon will show up (if you hover over it, it will show "Get Windows 10").

  • Lenovo Y50 WiGig

I have a stock Lenovo Y50 touch, 1080p screen, GTX 860m, 8gb RAMI have the stock WiFi card in it now but have been doing some research on intel's new WiGig and wireless docking. These Dell DW1601 WiGig cards are pretty cheap and easy to come by so my question is this:1) Can I switch out the cards and will they fit? They both look like half mini PCI-e2) Are there any WiGig Lenovo drivers yet?3) If not, will it work with the Dell drivers? Thanks for your time

Does this issue persist only in battery mode or both in adapter and battery mode? Also update the graphic driver and check for the issue.

  • Lenovo Y50 Microphone Issue

I started using my Lenovo Y50 about a month ago and have been having an ongoing problem with external microphones/headsets.The issue is that when I plug in a headset, the sound defaults to the headset's speakers, but the default microphone remains the one in my laptop. I have not been using a USB or the S/PDIF plug; just the normal audio jack. So far I have tried three pairs of headphones: A TekNmotion Yapster Blaster headset, a pair of apple earbuds with the mic attached, and finally a Razer Kraken Pro headset. Based on that, I don't think it is the fault of the headsets.Additionally, my brother got the same exact laptop at the same time, and he is experiencing this issue as well.We figured out a temporary fix:Open the sound menu, go to the "Recording" tab. For us, there are three items present: "Line In" for the Razer pro headset, "Microphone," which I assume refers to the laptop's mic, and "Stereo Mix." By setting the default device to "Microphone," then unplugging and plugging the headset back in. It will now work, but only when the "Sound" window is open. As soon as the window closes it stops working. I have tried splitting the speakers and mic, plugging in just the mic by itself, but it will only work with a combined jack. I have limited knowledge of the S/PDIF input, but from my troubleshooting experience I found that it does not work with the split mic or speakers, or combined audio jack.

Was tun? Naja,... was tun?

    Hi GaBI13,
You can switch on - off the wireless by pressing (airplane mode) F7 or Fn-F7. If this doesn't help you check that wireless device is present in Device Manager, is enabled and working properly (no arrows or yellow triangle present on device). If everything OK go to Control Panel-Network and Internet-Network Connections, identify the Wireless Network Connection. If this is Disabled, double click to enable it, right click and choose Connect. The driver for WiFi you can find here in case that you need.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Is it safe to update to iOS 5.1.1?

    Hi,
I have an iPad 2 (64GB WiFi) running 4.3.3 and an iPhone 4 (16GB) running 4.3.5 and would like to know if it is safe to update to iOS 5.1.1?
I've been doing some "Googling" and reading through this forum and what I found is not filling me with confidence... I know the much used "this is like a hospital and only sick people come here" answer, but boy there are lots of "sick people" around with iOS5 problems....
From my research I have found the following major problems:
Battery drain (will this ever go away???)
Problematic WiFi connections after update (worked fine before)
Safari crashes on sites with lots of pictures and video
Apps crashing more than they are actually working (all worked fine before update)
Unresponsiveness of device (as if it is not quite capable of running iOS5)
    SIM card read errors (iPhone)
Bluetooth no longer connecting to factory fitted bluetooth car systems (iPhone)
My only previous update is experience is with a 3rd generation iPod Touch which after the update to iOS4 (which broke the video app) and then iOS5 (which at least fixed the video app) is only good for playing music. It so laggy that doing anything else with it is basically impossible.
The iPad 2 & iPhone 4 were designed for iOS4 and not iOS5. Are the iPad 2 & iPhone 4 processors up to the task of fully running iOS5 and specifically 5.1.1 without any glitches and lagging? I'd rather stay on the current version than having my user experience tanked by devices that it not quite capable of running the new version of iOS problem free. I am not one of those people that MUST have the latest version of iOS not matter what. My devices working reliably is much more imporatant that a flashy new iOS. I know Apple says that they are compatible, but they also said that iOS4 & iOS5 will run on a 3rd generation iPod Touch and it just does not....
Any comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Jamie

    Jun 11, 2012 11:08 PM (in response to jamieryan157)
Talking about iOS 4 to iOS 5 in general, I don't see why not to update. iMessage, iCloud and all the new features. There is nothing wrong with 5.1.1 and no serious bugs. Most people's issues here are not related to the OS they are running. Then there are the habitual whiners who create accounts just to tell us that battery life is awful, but they do that after every update. After a week, they all disappear. So update. I can almost guarantee you won't have any issues, and you get all iOS 5 features. You won't regret it. <<=== Base on this justification, let me tell you what i have encountered with you guarantee.
After 2 week of upgrade from iOS 5.1.1, this is what I have encountered.
    1) Replace my old SIM Card, as it was totally corrupted by iOS 5.1.1
    2) 2 weeks after new SIM Card replacement, [No SIM Card Installed] error emerged. Eventually, you are required to reboot your devices everytime just to ensure your iPhone is back to normal.
If the above, is not an issue; please proceed with his guarantee and upgrade.
If one person complaint No SIM Card Installed issue, you can Blame on bad LUCK. Yet there are alot of people started to post about it; tell me it is their BAD LUCK as well?? There is some definate condition where cause this error.
GOOD LUCK on upgrading to iOS 5.1.1, You NEED it.
As of now, i am just praying when iOS 6 came out; i have not choice to consider upgrade.

  • Help Lenovo Y50-70 Win 8.1 clean install

I'm new to Lenovo, Win 8 and to this forum. I'm considering buying Lenovo Y50-70 Notebook model 59441814 - Intel Core i7 4270HQ, 8GB DDR3L, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GTX 860M 4GB, 15.6" Touchscreen, 4K UHD, USB 3.0, no DVD drive and Win 8.1 pre-installed. I also have retail MS Win 8.1 Pro "Full Version" 64 bit DVD and key. Would like to upon receipt of latptop to: (1) replace 256GB SSD with a Crucial MX200 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" SSD, and (2) do a complete clean install using my retail 8.1. Reasons are: increased capacity and get rid of all the unnecessary stuff that Lenovo pre-installs. Since I don't have a DVD drive and I have read there are some issues with boot secure, can someone provide recommendation on sequence of steps to follow. and /or how to.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hi Forest1,
    Welcome to the Forums.
When you receive the Y50-70, can you try these steps:
    1. Follow this video disassembly guide on how to replace the HDD with an SSD. Alternatively, you can also watch this youtube video on how to replace the drive.
    2. If you're planning to install Windows 8.1 Pro in UEFI mode, follow this guide on how to convert the DVD installer into a USB installer. When finished, boot into the BIOS and set the following settings then hit F10 to save and exit.
        - Link to picture
    Secure Boot = Disabled
    USB Boot = Enabled
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS
When finished, boot from the USB flashdrive that you created (by tapping F12 and selecting the flashdrive on the boot manager) and you should be able to install Windows 8.1 Pro on the SSD.

  • Is it safe to update my iPhone to IOS 5? I have backed it up, synced it, and transferred my purchases but I still get the error message...

So, yes. Backed up, synced, and I have all my purchases transferred... The thing is, I just got a MacBook Pro for my birthday, and I get the error message saying "Updating to iOS 5.1.1 will delete all of the apps and media, including iTunes Store purchases, on your iPhone. To preserve your content, apply this update on the computer where you sync apps, music, videos, and photos.. "
The computer I had been previously using simply would not recognise that iOS5 was available (it was a Windows PC; this is my first apple computer.)
So... Is it safe to update it?
What would I have to do to qualify this laptop as the "computer where I normally sync"?

If everything is on your computer, as it should be, then you are safe.
    Not sure what you want.
Your iphone simply mirros the selected content of your computer.  If all of your content is on your computer, then it will be on your iphone.

  • ANOTHER Lenovo Y50 case defect issue and terrible customer service

I don't normally do forums but have been so infuriated by Lenovo customer service I felt obliged to sign up and share my experience.
I bought a Lenovo Y50-70 in November 2014. Within one month I noticed a small plastic part near the hinge was missing (i.e. I noticed the other side was intact and how it should look). I sent this to Lenovo for repair and received a call 5 mins ago to say this won't be repaired under warranty and that I will have to pay for it. This is absolutely outrageous and from the number of posts on this very forum it appears this is a common defect with this particular case. I asked the customer service rep if there was anything he could do and all i received was a very short blunt manuscript response, exhibiting no intention to help. I am not prepared to pay for shoddy design/workmanship and so my only option offered was to receive the laptop back unrepaired.
This is absolutely incredible that a company as big as Lenovo can treat their customers in such a fashion. Unless an administrator on this forum wishes to investigate this matter (as it's currently still with Lenovo repair centre) I certainly won't make the mistake of buying or recommending a Lenovo again.

So Lenovo/Medio have had my laptop for 20 days now. 2 weeks ago I was told they wouldn't repair it under warranty and would return it unrepaired. Still nothing. I called customer service yday who promised to investigate and get in touch. Nothing. I called again today, same response i.e. would investigate. It seems there is a huge communication problem between Lenovo and their Medion repair centre.
I am now looking into a legal resolution as surely under the sale of goods act it is illegal to retain an item for so long despite no repair actually taking place. You would also think Lenovo would have the decency to offer to repair the small damage (which I was quoted £80 for) as compensation for delay. But alas no, what Lenovo know about customer service is less than 0.
The fact a representative hasn't even bothered to respond on here is testimony to their lack of care and respect for customers.
    Yours truly

  • When is it safe to update a task sequence?

We have a fairly busy environment, with OSD happening all the time. We have been updating our major task sequences off hours, but I wonder if that is even necessary. After testing in QA, is it safe to update the task sequence at any time without bothering
or confusing workstations that are in the middle of an OSD operation?
I think I understand that the task sequence is pulled down to the local hard drive very early in OSD, and it doesn't return to re-read the task sequence after that. Is that correct? If that's true then we don't need to worry about workstations losing their
place in the task sequence if we update it while they are executing the task sequence.
Thank you for any light others can shed on this.
    Gary
Gary Knigge, Senior Systems Analyst Division of Technology Services University of Wisconsin-River Falls Wisconsin, USA

Correct, the machine downloads the task sequence at the beginning of the process and uses that cached copy throughout, so modifying the task sequence will not affect any deployments already executing.
That said, the biggest risk you face in modifying production task sequences is content. If you add a task referencing content that is not yet fully deployed and available, you will cause any subsequent executions to fail.  This is especially true of
adding new Driver Packages as there is a known issue with the content not being recognized as valid until Rev2 (you not only have to distribute it to your DPs but also subsequently update the DPs to rev the content).

  • Safe to update using different computer?

I'm currently on vacation and the place I'm staying at uses Windows computers, no macs. My phone is usually updated on my MBP. Is it safe to update the OS using a windows computer that is not mine?
I've already made sure that my phone will not sync and no information will be transferred to the computer itself.

It's okay to do the update that way, although it is usually recommended that you backup your iPhone prior to the update in case there are any problems.
