Leopard / Snow Leopard on Intel MBP 1?

Just checking
Can I run these on this machine?
Thanks
Tom

I would also advise those on Mactopia that the only time you need more memory is more higher memory intensive applications. If they have issue with not having enough memory for the operating system, have them post here. If they have issues with applications specific to Microsoft, than by all means they need to find out why you would need 2 GB for a word processor, spreadsheet, e-mail program, or presentation program. You might want to advise them that http://www.neooffice.org/ is a good alternative for all except e-mail and works fine on 2 GB of RAM on a Core2Duo 2.17 Ghz. Not sure about less.

  • I running snow leopard on my MBP- where can I find the drivers for windows XP if I install them via bootcamp? Thanks!

I running snow leopard on my MBP- where can I find the drivers for windows XP if I install them via bootcamp? Thanks!

You won't find them until you are in Windows.
Helps to read even print the guide.
If you have auto run enabled, which is a security risk, the Apple setup.exe will run.
    Otherwise, just run that.
Either use your OS X DVD, or use the drivers downloaded by Boot Camp Assistant.
Two different ways to get them.

  • Does Photoshop Elements 4 function in Leopard on Intel Mac?

I am aware that it is not at all supported by Adobe, but has anyone been successfully using Photoshop Elements 4 on Leopard and Intel macs of any sort?
    thank you

I had PE4 installed and it was painfully slow and laggy that's why I tried pixelmator and I was so surprised at how wonderful it was.
    mcgrover wrote:
I'm repeating a little from above, but at the Apple store they told me PE4 was the latest and most compatible, but when I called Adobe support, the Adobe guy told me there were compatibility issues with PE4 and Leopard, though note that some posters here seem OK with 4 and Leopard. I suggest talking to Adobe support, but they may tell you PE6 is the fix for Leopard, in which case why does 4 work with Leopard? When I told the Apple store that Adobe said that 4 had problems with Leopard, Apple said that Adobe never communicated that to them. I have no more to offer as I don't have 4 to try it. I can say that 2 is dead in the water. Still looking at Pixelator.

  • Starting over on a corrupt 1TB TC being used on a PPC Mac + Intel MBP

Please Help. What is the best way to "start over" on a 1 TB Time Capsule that I am using for both a PPC (Connected via Ethernet) and an Intel MBP (Talks to TC over Wireless network)?
Please do a numbered step by step if possible. The PPC is running 10.5.8 and the MBP is running Snow Leopard 10.6.7.

    Great!
now what are my next steps to do the initial population of the TC for each of the Macs I referenced?
    Do I have to partition
No, you can't partition a TC's internal HD, but you don't need to.
or just Do the PPC (my main) with and ethernet connection and then disconnect and reconnect the MBP by Ethernet and do the same thing?
Yes. See #Q1 in [Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule|http://web.me.com/pondini/TimeMachine/TimeCapsule.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
In the past I had 2 sparsebundles and 1 "mainfile" I forget its name, but it is gone now. Please advise....
There should be 1 sparse bundle for each Mac, inside a Data folder. That will all be done by Time Machine.

  • Slow 2007 Intel MBP on Yosemite

    Dear Forum,
i have a 2007 intel MBP pro and i upgraded to Yosemite and initially it worked perfectly. Now i find its exceptionally slow. Anyone else finding this? or have any tips on what to look at?
doesn't look like its stretching the memory or the CPU in Activity Monitor...
    Its not doing anything strenuous...

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Download and install the 10.10.1 update.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • "GUID partition table scheme"  Can't install snow leopard on my mbp.

I have a mbp that is partitioned as half mac, half XP.  I put in the snow leopard CD and came up with an error that said I could not istall snow leopard because my partition did not fit the "GUID partition table scheme".  I followed the menues to the partition section of the disk utility.  From there, I don't know what to do.  I can't click on the "options" button to change to the GUILD thing.  Do I need to repartition my entire mbp?  Will this erase my other partition?  And will it delete all my data?  Any suggestions on what to do???

GUID partition table (GPT) or map is a set of instructions at the very begining of a storage drive to tell the hardware what partitions and formats are where on the drive.
A Intel Mac now requires a GPT to boot OS X as it uses EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) which is a software firmware in a hidden EFI partition on the boot drive designed originally for copy protection by Intel. EFI loads into memory before OS X  does, which can be seen if you have verbose mode activated upon boot time.
Setting up the boot drive with a GUID Partiton table WILL require backing up of all data off the machine and a complete erasure of ALL partitions on the drive, which includes ALL data, programs, operating systems and files not backed up off the machine previously.
Since a partition map is basically road directions, when it's destroyed so does go the partitions.
Also since you will be fresh installing 10.6, your free iLife won't tag along,, however you can erase/install 10.5 first then upgrade to 10.6 (no BootCamp) and that shoudl work.
Unfortunatly Mac's only now support Windows 7 in Bootcamp, however Windows 7 Pro (and above) will run XP programs natively or via free virtual machine XP downloaded from Microsoft, however since it's really not native, 3D games etc likely won't run very well.
If your not familiar or willing to take a chance, then I suggest you have someone else upgrade that machine.

  • Can`t install snow leopard on my MBP 6.1

    Hi all,
I am on vacantion at on of my cousins and I realy need to reinstall all on my mbp, but i can`t do it because my osx install dvd is home.
My cousin has a imac and i`ve tried to install from his dvd but my mbp doesn`t wanna bot from his dvd, the installer doesn`t open. .. weird?
    I have tried everything:
I`ve tried: in the instaler, click Utilities and then click restart -
Restart my com while holding down the C
I don`t want to remote install OSX, it should work with DVD, is there a problem with my mbp?
    What can i do?
    my config:
    MacBookPro6,1
    CPU 2.8 i7
    ram 8 gb
    Thanks a lot.

You cannot use an iMac original installer disc on a MBP. You either need your installer discs or you need to purchase a new copy of Snow Leopard locally provided it installs a version later than the one that was originally installed on your computer when it was received.

  • Trouble installing 10.6 (Snow Leopard) on a MBP 1,1

I'm having some dificulties installing Mac OS X Snow Leopard on my old MacBook Pro 1,1 (Core Duo CPU) (from June 2007). I've just formatted the harddrive and reinstalled Leopard (10.5) from retail dvd and installed all updates through "Software update". When I put my Snow Leopard dvd and starte the installation I get a message saying: Mac Os X Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer
This happens within 5 seconds or so, before I do anything.
Any ideas what might be wrong? I get the same message when booting from the DVD.
I thought 10.6 Snow Leopard could be installed on all Macs with an Intel CPU.

Needs to be a retail version of Snow Leopard, not one that shipped with another computer.

  • Can you install snow leopard on Intel based mac with less than one GB of ra

As the subject relay I have an Intel mac mini with 750GB of ram? will th einstaller let me install Snow Leopard?

No, the installer will not let you install Snow Leopard on an Intel Mac with less than 1 GB of RAM. Even if it did, performance would be unacceptable & the OS would probably be unstable.
If you want to run Snow Leopard you will need to upgrade to at least 1 GB of installed RAM. If you want it to run efficiently, you should install more. Typically, 2 GB will get you most of the benefits of a larger memory space but if your Mac supports more & you want the best possible performance, install the maximum the Mac can handle.

  • Upgrade snow leopard on intel imac?

i have not updgraded my late-2010 imac (intel) from snow leopard.  i'm having constant beach balls and slowing to the point i have to reboot.  this happens when safari is open.  i often have to force quit safari.
it has occured to me that i may be having trouble because i haven't upgraded my os x.
is it possible that my problems are caused by my failure to upgrade?
if so, what should i upgrade to?  what will apple allow me to upgrade to?

  • Can't load snow leopard to my mbp it is runing leopard it is saying can't load on this unit?

Can't load snow leopard to mbp. It stops after language selection.

Does you machine meet the system requirements?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4949
Is this a retail Snow Leopard disc from Apple, (the one with the white cat on it, not a grey one from someone else, if it is a grey one it will not work as most of those were designed to be machine specific.
This what the retail disk looks like and you can get it here: http://store.apple.com/us/search/snow-leopard-10.6.8#!!
If it does take your original install disc 1 power up the mac and push in the disc holding the OPTION key. This will bring up the start up manager and allow you which disc to start from, select the install disc. After if finishes booting, select your language, click continue. On the next page in the menu bar select utilities/disk utility. select)highlight) your volume (default name Macintosh HD, unless you named it something else) from the left column, under the First Aid tab click verify disk, if it comes back with errors (they will be in red font) then run Repair Disk, you may have to do this more than once (untill it comes up with this disk seems ok in green font)
Quit out and eject the disc.
Then power off and power back on holding the C key, select your language and follow the prompts

  • Installation Snow Leopard on Intel machine

I want use Snow Leopard in a partition of a disk of a notebook Asus W7J Intel Mobile Dual Core 2 T7200 2000Mhz Chipset Intel i945PM,
video Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 audio Realtek ALC660 INTEL 82801 and disk SATA 160GB
but at the booting I have KERNEL PANIC ERROR and the OXS doesn't work.
    What can I do?
I have tried the -v -x -f commands but nothing works.

You get a kernel panic because Mac OS X supports only the specific hardware architecture of Apple-branded computers. This differs substantially from what PC makers use in their products.
For instance, there is no BIOS chip in any Mac. Plus, Apple makes extensive use of parts custom-built to its specifications for audio, I/O control, graphics, & other functions. While the specs for many of these parts are very similar to the off-the-shelf ones used in PC's, they are not identical. Even the CPU's Apple uses are slightly different, leveraging both Intel's expertise in CPU design & Apple's historic expertise in hardware-software integration.
IOW, Apple does not provide in Mac OS X a kernel or hardware drivers fully compatible with any computer it does not build. So, not only does trying to run OS X on non-Apple hardware violate the licensing terms for the OS, it is technically impossible to do without hacks & tweaks & carefully selected generic hardware, & even then the results are iffy at best, unlikely to approach the stability & "it just works" experience real Macs deliver.

  • Snow Leopard and Intel 3.06gz processor

I wanted to know why the Macbook Pro models with the upgraded processor to 3.06ghz are not considered for the Snow Leopard upgrade $9.95 discount?

What makes you think it's not covered? Yes, I know the 3.06 GHz processor is not listed in the Description column. That's because that model is simply a CTO upgrade option to the 2.8 GHz base model. If you go into the online store and add a 17" MBP with the 3.06 GHz CPU to your cart, you'll see it listed as "Part number: Z0GW" - you'll see that listed as one of the qualifying Apple Store Family Part Numbers in the table.
Essentially, any new Mac bought after June 8th that does not come with Snow Leopard is eligible. Just place the order online using the appropriate link from the up-to-date program page, or fill out the pdf form and snail mail it in.

  • Can load Snow Leopard on newest MBP?

If I buy the current model 17" MacBookPro (called early 2011), can I do a clean install of Snow Leopard instead of using Lion?
I have a Family Pack of Leopard, and the upgrade disks to Snow Leopard; would that work?
When this model came out earlier this year,(before Lion), did the install disks that came with it work that way, or was there a DIRECT install of Snow Leopard available?
