Lexmark 6570 Wireless printing. Can't add printer

Hello,
I have set up a 6570 Wireless printer following Lexmark instructions and installing the soft on the Mac and doing the USB configuration. All good and the printer can connect to the AP and is pingable.
However, the printer is not defined in the Printers System Preferences. If I add it as a remote printer, using eithter lpd, ipp or hp direct, it says OK and defines the printer. However, it is not really defined, as when opening the printer settings and trying to print a test page, the name of the printer does not show up in the window header, it shows the printer icon in black, with a red cross on it and sending the test page results in nothing.
I am not sure how to proceed. I have rerun printer wireless setup, tried to see if it was blocked by the firewall, tried to use "Other printers" instead of the IP printing, but all to no avail.
Anyone knows how to do this ?

I returned my sparkling new Lexmark wireless printer to the store as I discovered that Leopard was not supported, even though Tiger was. I spent a number of frustrating evenings trying to get it working, only to find out from Lexmark Tech Support that I stood no chance. They suggested waiting for a few months for the driver - I didn't. As soon as I heard the news I replaced it with regular, wired printer. It was not a Lexmark one!

You would need to get the IP address of your printer then manually add a network print queue.
To get the IP address, on the control panel of your printer, press on Setup > Network Setup > TCP/IP > View/Set IP address.

  • Wireless MacBook Pro to wired C7280: Deleted offline printer queue, can't add printer again

I posted about a year and a half ago about connectivity problems with our C7280 all-in-one, and PrintDoc gave me some great suggestions to get me back on line again--thanks again!
I've had problems off-and-on again, but I've been able to get back again until now, and I can't get the usual tricks to work.
    Here's our set-up:
Printer:  Photosmart C7280 All-in-One, connected to network via Ethernet, static IP address 192.168.1.200 (confirmed via printer's display as well as the printer's web page)
Router:  Verizon/Actiontec MI424-WR (Verizon FiOS) with
    * Ethernet ports
    * 802.11b and 11g with WPA encryption
My Laptop:  MacBook Pro, Mac OS 10.6.8, wireless connection
Every now and then, the printer goes off-line.  (Our cordless phones and our WiFi occasionally hit the same channels, and our printer hiccups seem to happen after WiFi hiccups.  My theory is that a WiFi hiccup somehow screws up the print queues, possibly if it happens in the middle of a print job.  Haven't been able to prove it, though.)  I'm usually able to fix it by cycling power on the printer and/or resetting the print system (by right-clicking the list of printers in the Print & Fax window).
That's not working this time.  I reset the print system, but when I try to add a printer, I don't see my printer in the Add Printer dialog.
    I've tried various combinations of:
Cycling power on the printer (sometimes by cycling the power button off and on, sometimes by unplugging the power cord while powered on, and sometimes by unplugging the power cord while powered off)
Resetting the print system again (sometimes by itself, sometimes followed by log off/on, sometimes followed by reboot)
Powering down the Mac, then the printer, then the router, then powering them back up in reverse order.
But I still can't see my printer in the Add Printer dialog.
Somewhere along the way, I tried following the Mac OS 10.6-10.7 instructions from here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02205477&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3204785#N86...
...but Solution 1 assumes that the printer queue is still there; unfortunately, I'd already reset the print system by then.
Since I'm using OS 10.6 which already has the printer drivers built in, I'm assuming that I can't uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers as in older versions of Mac OS X.  (Er, right?)
The long-term solution (if my theory is right) is to get cordless phones that don't use the WiFi frequencies :-)  In the meantime, are there any tricks I'm missing?

Today I tried to "add printer" again...and lo and behold, there it was!
I wish I could tell you what fixed the problem, but I haven't got a clue.

  • Can't add printer: "request-value-too-long"

When I try to add a printer that appears in Print Browser (HP Laserjet 6MP) to the Printer List, I get the error message shown in subject line.
I've installed the most recent HP driver (before realizing it may not have been necessary since the driver's included in the Mac OS). Note: this printer DID work prior to a system reinstall, using earlier HP utility that worked in the Classic environment.
I deleted the earlier HP ppd's and driver, tho not the most current HP driver and ppds.
    I repaired permissions.
I also "Reset Printing System" in the Printer Setup Utility, to no avail. Still get error message.
Printer works (test page). Computer DOES communicate with printer when I try to add it (Apple Talk; LED's light up briefly). But then the infernal message appears.
I have spent hours trying to scope this out. Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    HI Bruce,
The Mac connects to the printer via the Ethernet bridge (Asante Talk). Weird thing is that is worked fine prior to updating the driver. I would like to restore this, but other comments are suggesting that it's going to remain problematic.
So another respondent has suggested going with the HP JetDirect, a print server. The virtue there (assuming I get it to work) is that I can get my PC laptop to feed the same printer, connected to the network via a wireless router.
This is new to me so I expect it may be tricky to make it all work.
Thanks for you help. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. Happy New Year.

  • Can't ADD printer

I believe that this started immediately after upgrading to 10.4.6, but I'm not absolutely sure of that:
Whenever I use Printer Setup Utility and reach the point of ADDing the driver for my printer (an Epson Stylus Color 777i), I always get the dreaded:
An error occurred while trying to add the selected printers.
    server-error-service-unavailable
Yes I've tried "Reset Printing System...", I've re-used the 10.4.6 Combo Updater, I've used Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions, and I followed the recommendations in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107054. I ran the Cron scripts using Cocktail (whick got hung doing that--I had to force quit the application.) Using Terminal, I followed a suggestion (which I can't now recover) to check that CUPS was running (it is, although it showed an earlier date, not today's.)
Epson has given up on me, after I followed suggestions like:
Try reconnecting the cable at both ends - ensure it is properly connected -
the printer should have a solid green light on with no red lights.
    Please go to :
    HD > Library > Printers > Epson >Inkjet Printers
There should be an icon for the 777 in there (SC777.plugin or Stylus Color
777.plugin or similar - it will mention the printer)
if the plugin isn't there please reinstall the downloaded driver.
If the plugin is there, proceed:
Double click on the Macintosh HD
in the white area on the top right, type in com.apple.print
the entries should now be found, if not please hit the RETURN key on the
    computer keyboard.
Trash all entries that come up (if any come up).
    Empty trash.
    Restart the Mac.

-Check "Epson" below the "Printer drivers" heading. (You do not need to
    install other manufacturer's packages.)
    4. Click "Install" and follow prompts to reinstall the resident Epson
printer driver package. Restart the computer after installation is
    complete.

I added a new admin account after hd crashed. i'm trying to print out a confirmation page, but i can't "add" to printer setup utility. it IS listed, through the USB, but the "location" is not under my new admin account name.

  • Admins can't add printer

I was messing around with the cups interface and all of a sudden no one can administer (add) printers. I did all the commands to add to the _lpadmin group. Doesn't matter. I even added a new administrator. Doesn't matter - the new account can't administer printers either. I keep getting asked for a login for a member of the lpadmin group. According to the CLI, I am a member of the _lpadmin group but doesn't matter.
I've tried all commands given in support forums. Everything shows right in the cli in terms of group membership but no one can administer printers.
I reset printers and also reset cups to the default configuration through the web interface localhost:631. I'm getting very frustrated. Can anyone help me?
    thanks in advance,

What printer, is it connected up USB or somewhere on your network...?

  • Can't add printer since 10.8.5 update

When I press 'add printer' in 'system preferences/print & scan' it goes straight to the 'add' window, bypassing the dropdown/popup menu. When it goes to the add screen it doesn't have any printer there, though my other macs, which haven't been updated, do have all the printers there.
    Any fixes please?

It sounds like this Mac has an issue with Bonjour, which is the protocol used to advertise a printer on a network. To check Bonjour on the 10.8.5 Mac, on one of the Mac's that has not been updated, if you share one of the printers and then go back to the 10.8.5 Mac, does this shared printer appear in the Add printer window?
Or you can enable Bonjour in Safari preferences on the 10.8.5 Mac. If you set Bojour to appear in the Bookmarks Bar, then when you select this Bookmark any device on the network that is advertising itself using Bonjour should be listed.
If the shared printer does not appear in the Add printer window, nor does the actual printer appear in the Safari Bonjour view, then the next action would be to check there is a working network path between the 10.8.5 Mac and the printer. The best way to check this is to use the Ping function in Network Utility (Applications > Utility). This will require you to know the IP address of the printer, which you can often obtain via the control panel of the printer. Once you have the IP address you can enter this in the Ping pane of Network Utility and then press the Ping button. Each packet sent should get a response. If it does, then it proves there is a functioning path between the two devices. If there is no response to the Pings, then you have a network issue with this updated Mac.

  • Adobe deletes all printers (every printer!!), then can't add printer

When trying to print one particular file (others are okay), the Adobe pdf printer will hang. When I then go to Devices and Printers, all printers are missing, included non-USB printers (fax, HP 1020, Epson 1280, MS XPS document writer, Quicken PDF Printer). When I try to add a printer, I get the message that Printer Spooler has stopped running and so I cannot add a printer. All attempts to restart the printer spooler fail (the usual stuff in tried per support forums). Naturally, I cannot print from any other application now since there are no longer any printers installed. Restoring to a previous restore point fixes everything until I try to use Adobe to print the particular file again.
Here's a link to the offending file:
    http://www.dutchessfair.com/downloads/2010-DCF-Program.pdf
Upon a restore, all my printers were back so I tried printing the pdf file above again and got the same result a second time. Since I got tired of doing restores, I didn't try a third time.
    My system:
Win 7 64 bit, updated to latest level
Adobe Reader updated to last week (minus the most recent update)
    Inter i7 920
    Mainboard MSI X58 Platinum
    BIOS American Megatrends V1.5 (4/20/2009)
    Memory 6144 Mb, triple channel
    Graphics: Radeon HD 4850
    Any idea what's going on???

    WHAT IS WITH THIS!
Couple times now this happenned on the bosses PC. He went to print a PDF file he received as a attachment and lost all printers. We could not restore the printers one time, had to get some expert PC help to get them back. Other time, deleted files stuck in printspooler, restarted and got printers back.
    Windows xp
Now, just happenned to me running windows 7. Adobe 9.3.4 running. Opened the .pdf file just fine, but when I go to print it all my printer devices are gone.
Rebooted, printer devices reloaded. Opened the .pdf again and bamm! All the printer devices are gone again.
I had been printing other .pdf documents with no issues. Why is it that certain .pdf files corrupt my system?
What is wrong with READER??  What/Where is the fix??
I need to print this document/
Looking at the prior respopnses, I am probably dreaming thinking I will see a fix here...

  • Can't print, can't find printer...suddenly

So everything was fine yesterday. Now today my Macbook Pro could no longer print. The printer cue showed the printer as busy. So I deleted the printer and tried to add it back in. Now it does not show up in the printer prefs at all. In the Add Printer window, no printers pop up and there is no "more printers" button at the bottom of the window like on my Mac Pro.  When I try to go the IP route, it accepts the IP address, but I still cannot print.
I can print fine from the Mac Pro and an older G4. I have rebuilt permissions and zapped the pram, and restarted. Nothing works.
    Mac Pro & Macbook Pro
    OS 10.6.7
    Airport Extreme
    HP Laserjet  P3015

Look at the network settings used in the Mac Pro and check that the same exists in the MBP, especially the Gateway address. If the settings are correct, then try deleting the Ethernet or Airport entry in Network Settings (which ever the MBP is using to connect to the network) and then adding that port and its settings again. Or, for whatever network port you are using, use the other as a test to connect to the Extreme and then try pinging the printer. Once you can get a response to the ping you will be able to add the printer again.

  • Printer Setup Utility - Add Printer not working

I am visiting my grandparents over the holidays and brought my computer along but no printers. G-pa tells me I can use his HP Photosmart 325 (which has never been used). However, I must download the driver/software online b/c he can't find the CD. So, I go to HP and download all the necessary files. Once all is installed, I connect the printer and go to the printer setup utility to add the printer, like I have done a million times before. There in the printer list I choose the ADD icon and it brings me to the printer browser menu. There it is listed, Photosmart 320 Series connection type USB, yeah I think.... BUT NO, I click on the printer and the ADD button is dimmed, and will not allow me to click it. Soooo I see on the bottom there is Name, Location, and Print Using section. I try Print Using, and select HP, but once selected there is NO HP model that remotely matches my printer!
What in the world is going on?

This is the exact same thing that is happening to me. I have an older Canon card printer (CP-200), and a recent Epson inkjet (Stylus Photo R280), both of which I cannot set up properly. In both cases, I get to the Add screen, and the default browser finds my printer, but I can only add after I choose a driver. Even after repeatedly installing/uninstalling the drivers from Canon and Epson, I cannot find my printer models in the drop down list of printer drivers. There are some Gimp-print drivers there, but not for my exact model, and since I have installed the vendor's own driver already, why can't I use it? This is so frustrating! Please help!

  • Wireless Mouse - Can I add a 'right-click' script of my own?

    Hi,
Couldn't see a forum for wireless hardware. On my mouse I would like the right-click' menu to have a 'mail-to' option as I use it a lot. How can I add this functionality?

I think V.K. was offering to show you how to write it when he asked how you wanted it to work.
For a file or folder, you open Automator and choose a Service.
Set it to receive files and folders in Finder.
Next, drag a New Mail message action from the Mail library to the right-hand pane of Automator.
Set any options on the new message that you want as a default, and save the workflow. The name you save it as will show up in the contextual menu under Services
If you want to be able to send selected text, change (or make another service) the receives text in Any Application.

  • Can't add printer driver for Deskjet 1010 on Mac OS 10.9.5

I have installed the printer driver on my Mac Mini running 10.7.5 with almost no issue (well, one of the first printouts actually crahsed Preview, but that was only once and might be another issue) and it print well and fast. But now I try to add this printer to my MB Pro running 10.9.5 and it always croaks that the software can't currently be loaded from the server (since 2 days now).
I guess it means my Mac Mini which likely only has drivers for the oder OS X. I also tried to install the drivers directly (downloaded from Apple's support pages) but still to no avail. I always get that ghastly message.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I said (or meant) that I plugged the printer in the USB port of my MacBook. This made OSX to install the appropriate drvers. I think I also used the supplied CD with HP drivers to complete the installation. I'm pretty sure you can find the driver itself somewhere on a HP site for download. Sorry, but I have no idea where. I just remember searchng for drivers in the past. And most times it was a PITA :-(
