li   styles and JSF

Hello all,
I'm trying to give a tab like appearence to the <a4j:commandLink>. For this i'm using
,
and
. I need to assign a different style class for the
where the link is clicked. The commandLink is displaying a page onclick. So i need to assign a style to the div after the ajax request or at the time of rendering the page.
How i can do it in JSF?
i thought of using a variable in backing bean and access it in JSTL to give dynamic styleClass.
eg:
<li <c:if test=${facesBean.property eq "something"}> class="classSomething" </c:if>
i used the
Object v = fc.getApplication().getVariableResolver().resolveVariable(fc, "facesBean"); to call the manageged bean.
How i can achieve this in JSF?

Create a backing bean whose job is to output the correct style depending on the circumstances.

• Facelets and jsf-extensions problem.

I'm fairly certain I've run into a problem between facelets and jsf-extensions. I'm working with JSF 1.2 RI, Woodstock, Facelets 1.1.13, on Tomcat 6.
When trying to get Woodstock autoValidation to work I get a javascript error the "I has no properties". The error occurs in the com_sun_faces_ajax.js file in the jsf-extensions-dynamic-faces-0.1.jar (I've used both the RC4 and a build today ,10/18/07 from source with the same results). Here is the code snippet where it happens (with my comment).
var I = G.getElementsByTagName("components")[0];
var C = I.getElementsByTagName("render");
for(var F = 0; F < C.length; F++) {
In the second line there it looks like the variable I is null, but based on the post response below I don't know why.
The response from the post looks like this:
<partial-response><components><render id="PayableForm:vendorGci"><markup>{"valid":true,"id":"PayableForm:vendorGci"}</markup></render></components>
However the server side code (validation method) never gets executed. I'm willing to do some digging and debug work, but I'd need to be pointed in the right direction.
The following is more potentially useful code snippets.
Here is the textField code:
<w:form id="PayableForm">
<w:textField style="display:none;" />
<w:message for="vendorGci" />
<w:label id="vendorGciLabel" for="vendorGci" text="Vendor: " />
<w:textField id="vendorGci" autoValidate="true"
text="${vendorBean.searchGci}" maxlength="8" required="true"
validatorExpression="#{ vendorBean.validateVendor}" />
Here is the javascript in the page (the init function is called from the body: onLoad="setTimeout('init();', 0);" , this does happen):
<w:script type="text/javascript">
function VendorListener(){
function VendorNotify(props){
alert("VendorNotify called!"); <--------------- I never see this alert message
if ( props.id != "PayableForm:vendorGci") { return; }
var field = document.getElementById("PayableForm:vendorGciLabel");
field.setProps({
valid: props.valid
VendorListener.prototype.notify = VendorNotify;
function initAccountRows(){
var table = document.getElementById("PayableForm:vendorAccountTable");
table.initAllRows();
function init(){
initAccountRows();
var listener = new VendorListener();
dojo.subscribe(
webui.suntheme.widget.textField.event.validation.endTopic ,
listener, listener.notify);
Here is the validator method. It currently doesn't do anything, just trying to get something to work. I never see the output, and I never hit the breakpoint in the method.
public void validateVendor(FacesContext context, UIComponent comp, Object value){
System.out.println("**********************************");
System.out.println("validateVendor called");
System.out.println(value);
System.out.println("**********************************");
}

Actually I don't need a global variable. I need to refer in my included template the actual backing bean used in the current page. As all my backing bean extends a abstract class I could bind my component to a property of the current backing bean, no matters which one. Just like a polymorphic call but without the parameter. Let's imagine I could get this object of the facesContext object I would be able to do:
<rich:datascroller renderIfSinglePage="false" align="right" for="listagem" maxPages="12" fastStep="10"
pageIndexVar="pageIndex" pagesVar="pages" stepControls="show" fastControls="hide" boundaryControls="show"
inactiveStyleClass="paginacaoInativa" selectedStyleClass="paginacaoSelecionada"
styleClass="paginacao" tableStyleClass="paginacaoTabela"
binding="#{facesContext.currentBackingbean.formDataScroller}" id="paginacao">
Instead of pass the backing bean to the ui:param of this template... Dou you get the point?

• BlazeDS and JSF

I have an existing JSF (really Oracle ADF) application that I'd like to connect to a Flex front-end rather than rewrite totally in Flex + JSPs for the back-end. BlazeDS will properly instantiate the managed beans through remote object requests, but the FacesContext references in my managed beans are null, as BlazeDS seems to have nothing to do with this context. Does anyone have experience connecting a Flex application to a JSF application properly, maybe through creating his/her own FacesContext factory?

• How to integrate Single Sign-On and JSF?

Hi all,
We are going to develop a web application using Oracle technologies, including ADF and JSF.
But we´ll need to secure our website using Oracle Identity Manager (Single Sign-On). I am having difficulties to find any resource explaining how to do that.
Also, the IM (SSO) will run on a Oracle AS instance and our web app (ADF+JSF) will run on a separete OC4J instance, due to ADF version. Is this a problem?
Thanks

We too are in the process of implementing iStore with SSO features.
And if you believe me it seems to me as nightmare.
In our scenerio we are intgrating this SSO with Third party access control too (AD and Siteminder). I would request you to please respond me on the following mail id , so we can share our experince which will help us in our implementation

• How to create a report in Form line Style and can display Image field?

Hi,
In Report builder 10g, I would like to create a Report with Form Line Style and this report included a Image field.
I can choose this Style only when Select Report type is Paper Layout. Because, If I choose Create both Web & Paper Layout or Create Web Layout only then in the next Style tab 03 option Form, Form letter and Mailing Label be Disabled.
But in Paper Layout, my report can not display Image field.
I tried with Web layout and all the other Styles (Except 03 mentioned be Disabled) then all Styles are displayed Imager field OK.
How to create a report in Form line Style and can display Image field?
I was change File Format property of my Image field from text to Image already in Property Inspector. But report only showed MM for my Image field.
Thanks & regards,

Here you go..Just follow these steps blindly and you are done.
1) Create a year prompt with presentation variable as pv_year
2) Create a report say Mid report with year column selected 3 times
- Put a filter of pv_year presentation variable on first year column with a default value say @{pv_year}{2008}
- Rename the second time column say YEAR+1 and change the fx to CAST(TIME_DIM."YEAR" AS INT)+1
- Rename the second time column say YEAR-1 and change the fx to CAST(TIME_DIM."YEAR" AS INT)-1
Now when you will run Mid Report, this will give you a records with value as 2008 2009 2007
3) Create your main report with criteria as Year and Measure col
- Change the fx for year column as CAST(TIME_DIM."YEAR" AS INT)
- Now put a filter on year column with Filter based on results of another request and select these:
Relationship = greater than or equal to any
Saved Request = Browse Mid Report
Use values in Column = YEAR-1
- Again,put a filter on year column with Filter based on results of another request and select these:
Relationship = less than or equal to any
Saved Request = Browse Mid Report (incase it doesn't allow you to select then select any other request first and then select Mid Report)
Use values in Column = YEAR+1
This will select Year > = 2007 AND Year < = 2009. Hence the results will be for year 2007,2008,2009
This will 100% work...

• OBIEE 11g : Unable to see any images while customizing styles and skins

Hi,
I am trying to customize OBIEE 11g style and skin. I followed the steps mentioned at http://www.rittmanmead.com/2010/12/oracle-bi-ee-11g-styles-skins-custom-xml-messages/ and also in oracle white paper http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi/customizing-oracle-biee-11g-176387.pdf.
I am not able to see any images on any OBIEE screens. After login, I can see the name of skin which i have created as the default skin but login page images, header images (after login) are not coming up. Can you please provide solution?
P.S. I have not changed any images or any css files in the custom skin and style directory. I just wanted to know first whether the new skin/style works for me. If it works, then i will apply some sort of customization.

That is correct. Also remember to delete browser cache. Here you have the folders: Re: how to insert the picture in the dashboard of BIEE
Let me know.

• How do you have the bottom stroke of a table show up using Table Styles and Cell Styles only?

I am using InDesign CS6, and I want to create a Table Style that has the bottom stroke show up, but does not have a table border, such as:
However, whenever I try to change the Table or Cell strokes so that the last stroke shows up, I get the entire table border, or some strange combination of borders:
Does anyone have any insight on how I can get the bottom stroke to show up while preserving my other stroke properties? Since I work with long documents, it's necessary to be able to control all of my tables through Table Styles and Cell Styles, and not by manually changing each and every table with the Stroke palette.
For reference, here are the my current Table Style properties and the resulting table:

Michael Murphy is the InDesign style-meister. He wrote "Adobe InDesign Styles" for Adobe Press, and did a great Lynda.com title on InDesign styling. Here's what he says in the book:
"As mentioned at the beginning of this chapter, with all the power of table and cell styles, it is important to understand not only how they work and what they can do for you, but also to understand their limitations.
"Two formatting features missing in table and cell styles have already been discussed: You will always have to set the column width and row height of cells when applying a table style for the first time, and you will always have to convert body rows to header and/or footer rows every time you apply a table style for first time or update the table's data....
"But there's another kind of limitation that's important to keep in mind as you are designing tables: It is very easy to design a table that cannot be completely defined by a table style. In many cases, you'll need to define an extra cell style or two that lets you complete for formatting. [my emphasis]."
So I think that's what you have to do: Apply another cell style on top of the cells at the bottom of the table after applying the table style.

• In What Package Are the style and diction Programs? [SOLVED]

I know this is an incredibly stupid question, but I cannot find what package I need for the style and diction programs... thank you for any information!

Looks like you need the AUR package diction.
Usually most applications are already available in the main repositories or in the AUR, so when you're looking for a specific application, you should always check these two places first. There's also a command-line tool called `pkgfile' (from the pkgtools package) for searching for specific files, but it only works with the main (i.e.: binary) repositories.
Oops, I suppose I didn't check the AUR carefully enough. That pkgtools package sounds interesting so I'll give it whirl. Thanks for the help.

• Can I use photoshop text styles and photoshop actions with creative cloud photography?

I'm really confused by this subscription pricing. If I purchase the $9.99/month, do I get the full desktop app of Photoshop and Lightroom? But I see on this page Products they list something called Photoshop CC that costs twice as much. How is that different from the Creative Cloud Photography?
My main question is whether I can use photoshop text styles and photoshop actions with Creative Cloud Photography, since I just purchased a bundle that includes these and I want to be able to use them. But I'd also like to understand what comes with all of the various products and how they are different.
My other question is how is Lightroom different from Photoshop? I have a sense of what you can do in Photoshop but I don't know much about Lightroom at all.
One more question: the free trial -- is it limited in any way besides the time length? If I do that, will I get a clear idea of all that I will be able to do once I subscribe, or are the functions limited in the trial?
I tried to just send an email to Adobe to ask these questions but apparently they are not interested in responding to emails from people who are not yet paying customers, so I was directed here. Thanks very much for your help!

I always like to trot this bit about Bridge once in a while or in the voice of the "Two Bobs" from Office Space,
"Can you tell us exactly what it is you do around here?"
What Adobe Bridge does:
Bridge is the coordinating hub of the Creative Suite. Synchronizing color management settings for all suite programs is done from Bridge, and can only be done from Bridge, to take one important use.
Bridge displays actual thumbnails of many more file types than Finder or Explorer. It also allows instant play of sound or video files more readily than the native OS file managers.
Bridge allows direct access to file metadata, to embed copyright information and keywords where appropriate (e.g., for corporate logo vector and raster files). It also displays the fonts used in an InDesign file, the swatches in an INDD or AI and the output plates (including spot color plates) they use.
When managing the assets for a design project, Bridge allows quick and simple sorting, rating and custom labeling (with color flash indications) of assets. I can rate images according to whether they are rejects, possibles, for review by client, or approved. The filters built into Bridge allow instant isolation of only the approved images or designs in a folder, only the rejects (for deletion) or only files with certain ratings, no matter how many files it contains. It recognizes aspect ratios, so if I only need a landscape or a 16:9 image in a folder of hundreds of images, I turn off the aspect ratios I don't need.
Once filtered, the remaining visible files can be selected and copied, moved, or deleted without affecting the rest of the contents of a folder.
Collections are a massively useful feature. One of my clients is a performing arts center, and in a season we turn out dozens of ads, flyers, brochures, web banners, playbills, billboards and other collateral using the same assets over and over. These assets are organized by artist and/or show on disk, but I set up each season's repeating assets as a Collection in Bridge, so that I just have to open the collection and drag and drop these assets into new INDD, AI, PSD, HTML (in Dreamweaver), FLA or AE projects without having to navigate from folder to folder picking up individual files.
Bridge's Favorites is another place I stack frequently-accessed folders, such as stock photography, backgrounds, and top-level folders for active projects.
Assets can be divided into subfolders, but a quick toggle of "Show items from subfolders" exposes all of the assets in a single view while maintaining their organization. I will typically keep AIs, PSDs, EPSs, stock photography and client images in separate subfolders within a project. When I'm ready to start pulling assets into an InDesign layout, I toggle this on and simply drag what I need into the layout.
Bridge comes with Adobe Camera Raw built in, which is many times faster than using Photoshop to adjust jpegs or tiffs for things like tonal range, white balance, cropping, spotting and sharpening, and is non-destructive.
One tremendously useful Bridge function for InDesign CS5+ users is the "Show linked files" feature, which opens all the linked files in a layout into a single view, regardless of where they are physically located. I often use this when doing alternative layouts from a client-approved mockup for a campaign, to be certain the same assets are used in each piece, or when creating a motion graphic or interactive piece for the campaign in After Effects or Flash.
The batch and image processing scripts built into Bridge automate things like creating web-ready small jpegs from multiple images, renaming large numbers of files in place or by copying to an alternative location, creating sets of PSD, png, jpeg or other file types from an assortment of image files, and so on.
Bridge is so much a part of my daily workflow that on my main workstation I have one monitor dedicated to it almost 100%. Bridge just sits open 24/7, ready for use. I would run at half speed without it, no question.

• Java style and coding conventions

Hello All,
Most of my programming experience is in Java, and as such, I try to conform to the style and coding conventions that are used in all of the Sun tutorials, and to my understanding, the specification. I'm enrolled in my final semester of a bachelor's of computer science and engineering, and one of my courses is "Software Engineering". Our course assignment is to make a website, written in PHP. I don't really care for PHP, so I volunteered for the Code Quality Assurance team, thinking, I'm fairly consistent when it comes to adhering to the Java conventions, it should be reasonable to determine similar conventions for this project, and give my classmates pointers on how to improve the readability and layout of their source listings.
The problem is, my professor, absolutely, whole-heartedly hates Java. He despises everything about it. For example, I sent him a source listing that I felt was well written, readable, and adequately documented. Some of the things that I was "doing wrong" were:
1. Naming Conventions
All of the Classes were first-letter capitalized, subsequent first-letter of each word capitalized. FormLayoutManager was one particular example. All instance or primitive identifiers were first-letter lowercase, subsequent first-letter capitalized, so an instance of FormLayoutManager could be formLayoutManager, or menuLayoutManager, etc. All constants were all capitals, with underscores separating each word. MAXIMUM_POWER. All methods were first-letter lowercase, subsequent first-letter capitalized, showLoginComponents().
My Professor insists that the convention I (and most of the Java community as far as I can see) is terribly unreadable, and that all instances variables and method names be first-letter capitalized. I tried explaining that this sacrifices the ability to easily distinguish between a class type or interface, and an instance, and was ignored.
2. Declaration and Initialization
Also, supposedly declaring a local identifier and initializing it in the same line is some sort of abomination of everything sacred in programming. So I found myself constantly doing things like
public String info() {
StringBuilder info;
info = new StringBuilder(512);
// append a bunch of information to info
return info.toString();
}3. 80 Character line widths
He wants me to break any statement that is over 80 characters in width into multiple lines. I know a long statement wrapping around in your editor is a irritating, but 80 characters, seriously, who doesn't have an editor that can't handle more than 80 characters on a line?
4. this and argument names
In most of my constructors that accept arguments, I would usually do something like
public Student(String name, int age) {
this.name = name;
this.age = age;
}Which he thinks is horribly confusing, and should be
public Student(String n, int a) {
name = n;
age = a;
}5. singular collections / arrays identifiers
I had something like:
String[] keywords= new String[] { "new", "delete", "save", "quit" };
for (int i = 0; i < keywords.length; i++) {
System.out.println(keywords);
And he insisted that "keywords" be renamed "keyword", as in, the i-th keyword, which I think is kind of stupid because the array is an array of keywords, and having a singular identifier makes that less obvious.
It's driving me crazy. It's driving everyone else in the class crazy because they're all mostly used to Java style conventions as well. I've tried pleading my case and I can't even get him to acknowledge the benefits of the "alternative" styles that I've used in my programs up to this point.
Have any of you had to deal with either professors or bosses who have this type of attitude, whether it be towards Java or any other language? This guy has been involved with computer science for a while. I think he's used to Pascal (which I know nearly nothing about). You will find people who will disagree about this stuff all the time. I had a similar course and we read "Code Complete" which offers some style suggestions. Fortunately, my professor was intelligent enough to allow a discussion of these styles and I had a chance to argue against the "bracket every if statement" idea and other little things I didn't agree with. It was insightful conversation, rather than a "I'm the professor, you're a student, so listen to me".
Here's the important part: It doesn't matter what the standard is, only that there is one.
Unless I misunderstand, he allowed you to take on the responsibility of QA, so it is ultimately your decision. If the project suffers because of poor quality of code, it will be on your head. If, on the other hand, you give in to him and use a style that makes no sense and the project suffers because of poor code, it will still be on your head.
So he really has no position in this because he is not a stakeholder in this decision. Tell him that this is your responsibility and you need to make the choices that are right for your group, not right for him. If he's teaching you anything that can reasonably be called software engineering, he should understand that. Otherwise he's just teaching out of a book called "Software Engineering" and doesn't know anything (or so it seems from this small window you've given us).
caveat: If he's reviewing the code and he's particularly snarky about his "styles", you might want to consider giving in to his demands for the sake of your grade. Sad reality.

• What's the difference between jsp and jsf?

who can tell me what's the difference between jsp and jsf?
I'm puzzled when I found some of the technology in jsp is so similar to the ones in jsp( javaserver page)

Hi,
Find the difference between JSP and JSF
1. A developer has more control with JSP, but (should) get easier development with JSF
2. Event handling is done differently in JSP (HTTP) and JSF (Java)
3. The UI is designed differently (or should be at least) with JSP (markup) and JSF (components).
4. The end product should also be defined differently - JSP page versus a JSF application.
Is this the only thing that is need to make a decision for either or? Probably not. There are other pieces that need to be taken in account when deciding which technology to use - tools support, enough components, type of application etc.... At this point there are not enough JSF components (although there are some interesting projects underway - Ajaxfaces, Myfaces, ADF Faces, and WebChart 3d) and enterprise tools support is still limited to a few tools vendor. Looking at our ADF Faces components they are currently available as early access (not production) and demands for these components are stacking up, literally, outside my office doorstep. Although I would love to make them production - now! - it is not a viable solution since we are still checking features and fixing critical bugs.
All this combined - not enough enterprise level components in production, lacking tools support etc... - leave customers in a vacuum where the decision is either to continue with JSP, since it is mature and has a wide developer base, or move forward with JSF not sure if the support, or the developers will be there. This is particularly sensitive to customers that need to get started now and be production by summer.
If you are in this vacuum here are some key points promoting JSF:
1. Fundamental unit is the Component
2. Built in event and state management
3. Component sets can be provided by any vendor
4. Closer to ASP.Net or Swing development
5. Choice of UI technology
6. Scale up (rich clients)
7. Scale down (mobile devices)
8. Built into J2EE containers in J2EE 5.0 (tentative)

• ASDocs - Preventing style and tags removing from HTML

Hi,
I am using Flex 4 ASDoc
When I write in my comments:
whatever
entire tag including text is removed (myClass is present in style.css)
When I write:
whatever
style attribute is removed.
I have a feeling this has something to do with xslts and other setting. Can someone point me to the files where changes can be made so that custom styles and classes are not processed/removed?
Thank you.

bump it up.
