/Library/StartupItems and Oracle
I have just installed Oracle on an XServe running Snow Leopard. The last job is the auto-start.
The script provided by Oracle runs okay for any user using the command
"sudo /Library/StartupItems/Oracle/Oracle"
But when it is run as part of the StartupItems at startup I get the following error message:
22/04/2010 15:48:32 com.apple.SystemStarter92 Starting Oracle Databases
22/04/2010 15:48:32 com.apple.SystemStarter92 bash: /Volumes/HD1/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/dbstart: No such file or directory
But the files and directory do exist, and the script runs okay from the command line. Any advice?
Here is the Oracle script and the StartupParametersplist file.

Atul,
I believe I have done everything according to the instructions you provided. I may be missing something. It doesn't seem to be executing the script since I don't get the t.log file in /Library/StartupItems/oracleServices folder.
I am guessing I don't have the StartupItems.plist file in the correct place. I put it into /Library/StartupItems/oracleService folder along with the oracleService file that has the shell script code.
Is this correct?
Thanks for your time.

Hello Mac users,
After recognizing slowness and heat in my machine, I find
posix_spawnp("/Library/StartupItems/ProTec6b/Nalpeirond6b", ...): No such file or directory
in my system.log, but, looking in the library, well, the file isn't there. I deleted the Nalpeirond6b.plist thinking that might stop it, which it did not. What else can I do?
I'm running Leopard still, 10.5.8, having been putting off upgrading and/or a new purchase.
Thank you for your time.

hi, please help.
Accidentally deleted startupitems from library/startupitems on macbook now the computer wont startup and i get the grey startup loading screen with the apple symbol and a loading bar but wont load then turns off.
i saved these files to a folder on the destop and then turned the computer off. oops!!! now computer wont start up
How do i put the startupitems back to this folder or beter yet get into the computer to fix this.
Please please help!!!Reinstall OS X, either from disc or a recovery partition. You don't mention which version of OS X you're running so I don't know which it will be.

I recently got a new Macbook Pro. I transferred my info from my old mac. Now when I startup my Macbook Pro, I get this error message "“/Library/StartupItems/IntegoCommon” has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings." I have run Disk Utility, but nothing has changed.
Thanks!Uninstall any Intego junk according to its instructions and ensure that all its components have been completely eradicated from your Mac. You may need to download Intego's installer so that you can run its uninstaller.
Intego will make your Mac run very poorly, unacceptably so. Never install such junk on a Mac. -
Library paths and environment variables
Hello,
I am using 10g AS 9.0.4 on a Unix system.
I am trying to convert an old JSP web application to work with 10g. It is not an EAR/WAR file so I am manually trying to set it up under the "default-web-app" folder. It uses a number of java class files which currently reside in $J2EE_HOME/default-web-app/WEB-INF/classes/mystuff.
These class files require access to a number of libraries. I foolishly believed that they would be accessible if I were to place them in the $J2EE_HOME/default-web-app/WEB-INF/lib folder, but that did not work.
I read that OC4J uses a "catch all" lib directory at $J2EE_HOME/applib. I copied the library files there and they still did not work.
Frustrated, I tried to print out the environment variables for the server - only to find that this function is not supported.
I managed to print out the library path by creating a Java class files which returns the following as a string:
System.getProperty("java.library.path");
This (when called from a JSP) prints a number of different library paths, none of which match those found listed in the $J2EE_HOME/config/application.xml file. I placed the library files in one of the paths listed by the "java.library.path" and it worked!
3 questions:
1. How do you print the server's environment variables using a JSP? This strikes me as a very useful function for sorting out library and path issues. Do a search on Google for "print environment variables OC4J" or something similar and there are no useful pages suggesting how this can be done.
2. Why are the default library paths different on the server than to those specified in application.xml?
3. How do I change the LD_LIBRARY_PATH (or any environment variable for that matter)? I have tried adding the following line to $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Jserv/etc/jserv.properties without success:
wrapper.env=LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/my/custom/library/path
Any help you can offer would be most appreciated.>
Thanks very much for a such a comprehensive response
- it has helped answer a lot of questions, especially
being able to print out the system properties. That
will be really useful!
No worries at all Rob.
The main hurdle is that the libraries are indeed
native (*.so) libraries. I hadn't considered that
until you pointed it out in your message. Can I
assume, then, that $J2EE_HOME/applib and
$J2EE_HOME/default-web-app/WEB-INF/lib are only
designed to handle Java's .JAR librares? That would
explain why placing the native libraries in there
didn't work, but is there a way of getting such
native libraries recognised and bundled up in a
WAR/EAR file?
Yep, that's it.
Our proprietary applib and the servlet specs web-inf/lib are only dealing with Java archives.
The J2EE specs don't cover how to deal with native libs like this.
Now I've NEVER EVER tried it, but it's worth a shot of at least trying -- for simplified packaging purposes, what you may be able to do is to distribute the .so's within the web-inf/lib -- and then just set that directory (where's its realized on the server after the app is deployed) to be referenced witihn the LD_LIBRARY_PATH. I'd expect our deployment manager will just ignore files it doesn't know about, so arguably you should be able to at least distribute them with the standard archive.
You'll need to specifically set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH as a separate task outside of the deployment operation though.
>
This is where things get a bit weird, and is partly
my fault during the installation of 10g AS.
We already had an existing installation of Oracle 10g
Database (10.1.0) at $ORACLE_HOME under the user
"oracle". I logged in as the user "oracle" to install
the Application Server into a different location (In
this case, "$ORACLE_HOME/../ias10g_9.0.4" - let's
call this $IAS_HOME). So there is no separate user
account for Oracle Database and Application Server
(and hence no separate $LD_LIBRARY_PATH).
If I log into UNIX as the user "oracle" and echo the
LD_LIBRARY_PATH, I get the following directories:
$ORACLE_HOME/lib
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin
/usr/dt/lib
/usr/lib
I use this user to do "opmnctl stopall" and "opmnctl
startall". If I then print out the library path from
a JSP using
"System.getProperty("java.library.path");", I get the
following paths:
$IAS_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/sparc/server
$IAS_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/sparc
$IAS_HOME/jdk/jre/../lib/sparc
$IAS_HOME/opmn/lib
$IAS_HOME/lib
$IAS_HOME/usr/lib
Which is totally different to those listed by
$LD_LIBRARY_PATH at the command line, which means
they must be coming from somewhere else.
It gets worse - my application is trying to call a
native library that is only present in the
$ORACLE_HOME/lib32 directory (libclntsh.so.10.1), so
unless I can include this path in the
"java.library.path" on the Applicaiton Server, then
my program will not work.
So, how do I change the "java.library.path" when the
values aren't coming from $LD_LIBRARY_PATH in the
first place?
The utility $IAS_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl is actually a shell script.
It has this section which sets the LD_LIBRARY_PATH:
if [ -z "$LD_LIBRARY_PATH" ]
then
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/lib:$ORACLE_HOME/lib ; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
else LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/lib:$ORACLE_HOME/lib:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH} ; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
fi
So if you have an existing LD_LIBRARY_PATH env var set, it should just be putting its paths onto the front of it.
What you could try as a quick test is to edit the opmnctl script (after taking a backup of course) and either appending the path you need to it, or just add some debug statements to output the LD_LIBRARY_PATH value it ends up setting so you can try and work out what's causing it.
I expect these other entries:
$IAS_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/sparc/server
$IAS_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/sparc
$IAS_HOME/jdk/jre/../lib/sparc
are coming from the JRE when it is launched, in probably a similar manner to our opmn entries.
I really appreciate your help, and I bet if anyone
can answer these questions, you can! ;-)
You're very welcome.
cheers

Hello,
I have oracle 8.1.6 64 bit and oracle 10.2.0.2.0 64 bit
running on the same hp UX 11i 64-bit machine
I have installed Tuxedo 8.0 32bit on the same machine.
I have a working tuxedo 8.0 environment running against the 8.1.6 oracle
database
in the Tuxedo .../udataobj/RM file I have for the 8.1.6 environment the string
Oracle_XA:xaosw:-L${ORACLE_HOME}/lib -lclntsh
In oracle 8.1.6 home there are directories lib and lib64
but in oracle 10.2.0.2.0 home there are directories
lib and lib32
what string should I use for the oracle 10.2.0.2.0?
Oracle_XA:xaosw:-L${ORACLE_HOME}/lib32 -lclntsh maybe???
Must the string in the RM file for oracle always begin with the string
Oracle_XA?
If so is, possible at all to run the the binaries of one Tuxedo installation
against two different databases versions because the RM strings are similar in
the beginning but in 8.1.6 refer to the lib directory and in 10.2.0.2.0 refer
to the lib32 directory ?
Or do I need to have two installations of tuxedo8.0 binaries on the machine?
I have tried to for 10.2.0.2.0 the line (the Ora10_XA is only a try...)
Ora10_XA:xaosw:-L${ORACLE_HOME}/lib32 -lclntsh
in the RM file but when starting tuxedo I get:
$ cat /mnt04/edu/ressu/bin/xa_NULL06092006.trc
ORACLE XA: Version 10.2.0.1.0. RM name = 'Oracle_XA'.
111035.16584.0:
xaogetmod: XAER_INVAL; Invalid xa_info string.
Any comments on the matter appreciated.
rgds,
JyriJyri,
The information before the first colon in the $TUXDIR/udataobj/RM file is
only used by the buildtms, buildserver, and buildclient programs to find the
line corresponding to the value of the -r option, so it should be OK to
specify different values for Oracle 8.1.6 and Oracle 10.2.0.2.0.
The information specfied in the OPENINFO string in the *GROUPS section of
the TUXCONFIG file must be of the form
OPENINFO="ORACLE_XA:Oracle_XA+...."
The strings ORACLE_XA and Oracle_XA cannot be changed, except for case. The
"...." can be replaced with parameters such as
SqlNet=NAMESesTm=100+LogDir=.+MaxCur=5 or whatever is used in your
applicatino. The "xaogetmod: XAER_INVAL: Invalid xa_info string" error you
are getting is due to an incorrect OPENINFO parameter.
If you are running a 32-bit version of Tuxedo you must link with the
${ORACLE_HOME}/lib32 library on 10gR2; if you are using a 64-bit version of
Tuxedo you must link with ${ORACLE_HOME}/lib library. The procedure is
similar for Oracle 8 except that it seems that the lib directory may be the
32-bit library in that version of Oracle.
32-bit and 64-bit binaries cannot be mixed under a single TUXDIR, but it is
possible to use multiple RMs or multiple versions of the same RM on the same
machine.
The syntax of the open string and the list of libraries to link with is
specified in the "Oracle Database Application Developer's Guide -
Fundamentals" in the "Developing Applications with Oracle XA" chapter.

Problem with Linus Ubuntu 7.04 and Oracle-Xe debian package
Hi all,
Installed Oracle 10g XE on my Ubuntu 7.04 using universal Debian Package : oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb. No problem during the installation . After finished the installation, I configured the database to use port 6000 and its password (Listener port set to default).
But when I tried to access the database home page using "http://127.0.0.1:6000/apex", it cannot be accessed. Then I tried to verify my database server using /etc/init.d/oracle-xe status and here's the output:(before it, I make user the database was realy online by typing /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start)

Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Install Guide
I've downloaded the latest "Oracle Database - Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Install Guide - 10g Release 2 (10.2) for HP-UX PA-RISC" (part no. B14202-01) dated August 2005 from OTN. I'm getting the following error when opening the pdf file in Adobe Reader:
"Cannot extract the embedded font 'PEPPLC+Palatino-Italic'. Some characters may not display or print properly."
When I print the manual, I get blank pages throughout the document which, in my opinion, should contain text and don't. Specifically pages 1-11, 2-5, 2-19, 2-24, 2-33, 3-5, 3-19 to name a few. When I go to those pages within the pdf file in Adobe Reader, I get the error: "There was a problem reading this document (114)."
Can you verify this problem on your end. Also, how do I get a good copy of this document?Hi!
Apologies for the delay in responding to you. Please try the documentation library, part B19306-01 at URL: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/database10gR2.html. Search for the part B14202-01 and click: pdf at top right. Part B14202-01 documentation pdf is currently displaying and printing on this end. The blank pages at the end of each main topic are inserted on purpose.
Another link to part B14202-01, on OTN is under the OEM, Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 2 (10.2): http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=21
Thank you for your comments and feedbacks. Its much appreciated.

OS=Windows Server 2008 R2(x64)= is working correctly
PHP ver=PHP 5.3.2= is working correctly
ORACLE = Oracle Database 11gR2= is working correctly
Since the PHP and Oracle on the same machine, I did not install install client(but even with instan client I could not connect to oracle).
phpinfo does not show oci section
in Environment section shows these values

extension dir is set ok, since other extensions are working properly
when i execute php.exe, in error_log file appears

Please help me.I'm guessing the cause is probably the same as that article: PHP is 32bit but your Oracle libraries are 64bit.
You will need to install 32bit instant client and make sure they are used for Apache. Does Windows 2008 have sym links? Perhaps the note mentioned at the end of OCI8 IN WINDOWS SERVER 2008 x64 will help. Otherwise try creating some batch scripts to set PATH appropriately before starting Apache. -
When I turn on my computer I get the following error messages:
Insecure Startup Item disabled. "Library/StartupItems/HP IO" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings.
Insecure Startup Item disabled. "Library/StartupItems/HP Trap Monitor" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings.
How do I fix these?Library/LaunchAgents: com.promethean.activmgr.plist
Library/LaunchDaemons: com.microsoft.office.licensing.helper.plist, com.promethean.activhardwareservice.plist
Library/StartupItems: HP IO folder - HP IO, Resources, StartupParameters.plist
HP Trap Monitor folder - HP Trap Monitor, Resources, StartupParameters.plist
These are the system extension errors
"/System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsControl.kext"
"/System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsControl.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleMux Control.kext"
"/System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsControl.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePoli cyControl.kext"
"/System/Library/Extensions/BJUSBLoad.kext"
"/System/Library/Extensions/EPSONUSBPrintClass.kext"
I do not know what any of these do or how to fix them. I have run multiple disk permission repairs & disk repairs. The startup & system extension errors continue to come up.
I even followed the directions to move HP IO & HP Trap Monitor to the trash, run disk permissions repair, put back in folder, then restart - and still am getting error message. -
Hi, I’m wondering if there are any differences between Golden Gate replication for Oracle 10g and Oracle 9i. The reason why I’m asking is that it doesn’t seem to be any release for oracle 9i for windows, so I was thinking of using the oracle10 GG release with Oracle10g to practice replication between Oracle9 and 11gR2.
/RegardsOnly corresponding databases having corresponding GoldenGate releases can be replicated.
Oracle GoldenGate version 10 for Oracle 9i database
Oracle GoldenGate version 10 for Oracle 10g database
You cannot use "Oracle GoldenGate version 10 for Oracle 10g database" for Oracle 9i database. By doing so, you will get a library error.
Thanks. -
Conflict between oracle 8 and oracle 11
Hi,
I'm having a problem installing oracle 8 and oracle 11 homes at the same time. It looks like the system can only recognize one of the homes. I have 2 different applications running in the same computer. One of them uses oracle 11 and the other oracle 8. The problem is, the one with the oracle 8 can't recognize it, and tries to use the 11, saying it doesn't support the connection. I've checked the registry info and it looks like there is only one Home specified. Should I create a new one? More over, when i use the home selector it says there's only one home available.872175 wrote:
Yea they are, I even tried to use a script similar with:
SET PATH=D:\ora11\product\11.2.0\client_1\BIN;%PATH%
D:
cd "app_folder"
app.exe
EXIT
to make sure the variable with be the correct when we tried to open the application. I can use the application linked to the oracle 11 but, when i try to get in the other it gives me the following error:
The procedure entry point orasql10.sqlxss could not be located in the dynamic link library orasql8.dll.When you change the environment variables in a command line window (run cmd.exe), the changed variable values only exist in that command line window, but those environment variables are inherited by other programs started from the command line window. If the Oracle 8i client is normally listed first in the PATH environment variable, and you want to execute another program that requires the 11g client, you will need to repeat the above steps for the second program.
You can use a program named Dependency Walker to see which DLL files will be accessed by a program (or even a DLL such as ORASQL10.DLL). In the case of a DLL, you would be able to determine if a specific function name sqlxss (ordinal 183 in this case) exists in that DLL. The Dependency Walker program typically ships with Microsoft's development environments. You can find out more about that program here:

Oracle 11.5.9 and Oracle 9i RAC fresh install
How is there an Oracle 11.5.9 and Oracle 9i RAC fresh install
No, except you upgrade your developer patchset which should not be an issue for the customized forms you have.
Can you please explain more in detail about this option and i will be thankful. Appreciate your help. Please see (Upgrading Developer 6i with Oracle Applications 11i [ID 125767.1]) for the steps you need to follow to upgrade your developer patchset.
Your custom reports should work find after this upgrade, and in case you have any issues you can try to compile those forms again -- How to Generate Form, Library and Menu for Oracle Applications (11i and R12) [ID 130686.1]

Hello:
I keep getting this message upon startup. Can't figure out how to address it. Here it is.
"/Library/Startupitems/Intego Backup Manager Pro" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings.
Any suggestions? There's an invisible one name "Icon" according to the error message.
Enable Finder to Show Invisible Files and Folders
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following command line then press RETURN.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder
To turn off the display of invisible files and folders enter or paste the following command line and press RETURN.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder
Alternatively you can use one of the numerous third-party utilities such as TinkerTool or ShowHideInvisibleFiles - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
First, make invisible files visible. Find the invisible file in that folder and remove it. Please be sure you are looking in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder. There is another one in the /Home/Library/ folder. Be sure you look in the right one. -
